    Hi all,

I've always wanted to play on siege, but I got all the tales of the second you start, you'll get killed and you'll have nothing ever etc etc. But from what I've read, while yes there are killings it's not exactly you die after every res.

So, do I join New, get a feel and after my month get mercilessly slaugtered? Or is there further help after that month if I want to stay on?

    Thanks,

    Geth

There is the sense of danger on siege but that adds to the thrill. Our community is ever growing and there are plenty of helpfull people on siege. All you gotta do is ask in general chat!

Yes your best bet would be to join NEW as they are our shards version of the young title. In the old days there was a standing agreement that nobody could PK a NEW member and if you did you were blacklisted by the entire shard. That rule still semi applies. Kill a NEW member and you basicaly are nothing to anyone on siege. NEW is made to help train new comers to siege so therfore killing a NEW member would mean your killing someone way under par from you so therefore you the PK would be a horrible pvpr.

We welcome you to siege with open arms! Siege has alot to offer and is truly fun.

Dying in a game is not like dying RL.

Dying is a part of the game so try to get the best out of it. Maybe you will end up with a new friend, you never know.

If you see a red and you don't know for sure, that you can run fast enough to tit town, don't start run at all. It may work better to face him, say hi or ask him for something, maybe a vendor selling something or something else.
It may stop him from attacking or at least go easier on you. Also try to fight back if you can instead of running.

When you die, show your ghost, step away from your body.
Don't start OooOOo'ing, most killers do not understand OooOOo'ing.
Wait to see how your killer act. He may tjeck your loot, maybe loot something and then tell you to rez or maybe even rez you if he do have the skills.
When you are back to life, be nice, ask if you can loot what is left on your body.
Most will let you loot and not rez kill you but yes Siege do have a few kids who may rez kill you.
If that happen, don't show your ghost next time, don't rez before he is gone.

I have been on Siege sinse the day the shard was born. I find players much more rude on normal shards even when they can't kill you in Trammel.

One thing to remember, never carry anything you can't affort to lose, not even in town. If you know the risk and always remember dying and losing stuff is a part of Siege, then it won't hurt so much.

Also, be sure always to have a backup suit, weapon and other stuff in your bank you will need if you die. The time from you get looted to you are suited up again is not fun, special not if you have to do shopping and maybe begging before you are back on your feets.

Also remember, even when vendors won't buy your anything, players will, crafters need resources and have very little time to get needed resources and can't buy them from npc vendors.

    Welcome to Siege

    Hi.

First of all, there are hardly any PKs on Siege at the moment; most of the PvPers left to play on Atlantic a while back. So your chances of being "mercilessly slaughtered" are next to none at present. Furthermore, the idea that you get cut down the minute you step out the guardzone has been one of those Siege myths for quite some time. In recent years, provided you stayed out of the hotspots, the chances of being PKd were always pretty low. I just can't remember the last time I was in a spawn that was raided.

And as far as losing everything, the golden rule on Siege has always been that you don't go out in what you can't afford to lose. So don't wear all your best items, just use some of them so that you if you were PKd and looted (or lose your stuff to monsters) you have at least one other set of equipment available.

When you leave NEW, and I would certainly encourage you to join them, they will be keen that you join in a regular guild afterwards and will help you to find one if you have not made up your own mind. Siege is a lonely place if you are not part of a guild, and this guild/alliance will then be your primary source of help. But just because you are not in NEW, most people will not treat you all that differently. The vast majority of the Siege community is very helpful to anyone provided they do nothing to rouse their ire.

HA! Dying all the time? You'll die a lot more from monsters than you will from players. Welcome to Siege.

I'm glad to see that mostly everything I've heard are just tales. So I'll be joining you all on Siege.

Most of the tales are made up of players who never had been on Siege or even tryed playing in Felucca.
Then there is a few, who started playing UO back in 1997, when PvP was on all shards. They loved UO but could not handle the risk of dying to players. They never got rid of the hate to PK's, even when the PK's now are limit to Felucca and a small part of Abyss on to Siege. This hardcore PK haters will keep telling tales and lies about Felucca and Siege.

I too started playing in 1997, but even when I'm female and now 56 years, do I have my best memories from early UO when Britannia was wild and dangerous and I was on dial up with a ping 300+ and alot of packed loss and died alot to PK's. I learned to fight, the PK's learned me all the tricks and I got alot of friends, most red but also alot blue.

But Siege is not for all, there are some that just can't handle dying and first time it happen, they will logout, cry RL and first login again days later and cry about their lost stuff.

If they was stayed ingame and showed their ghost, the PK maybe would had left their newbie stuff. Maybe the PK did leave most on body, maybe it did decay because the player just logged out.

Even when Siege have very few PK's now, the hardcore PK haters will go on telling about dying, rezkilling and drylooting on Siege. Their goal is to see UO without any place for PK's, just because they was to scared to leave town 13-14 years ago and did quit until Trammel was born.

Well I've rolled, template is a work in progress trying to crunch the numbers. I was picking up regs off the ground around brit and killing whatever animal/monster I could. Someone was nice enough to dump a bag of fencing weapons on the ground @ WBB.

Is it best to check for any GM's of NEW under help or General?

Fantastic. Thanks for the words of wisdom everyone, I've registered on the NEW forums, ingame name is Kur, and my second account will have a mule to make me some money and help with economy. Hope to see you all in game, (hopefully not at the end of your swords or used as a target for archers too often)

    Thanks

To make money here, collect hide/leather, wool and make it to bolt of clothes, gems and any other stuff crafters can use as the npc vendors won't sell most resources.
    Players will buy.

Kur, you'll also want to speak up in General chat so Shalimar or a NEW emissary can show you the NEW rulebook, invite you to join the NEW guild and give you some starter goodies.

Gethin, sorry your guilding process was so quick. Tried to catch you again about a half hour later but you'd already logged off. Give a shout in guild chat if you need anything. Also, if you are looking for template advice, you'll usually get some good advice in General Chat.

Scopulus, have you heard from Night Stalker? Kind of concerned that he is okay.

That's fine. You gave me more then I needed. Honestly, I was after getting into the guild and trying to forge ahead from there. I've been trying to sort out how I am going to fund my adventuring without having to check every house to see if they are going IDOC. So Im using my second account to help bring in some income (hopefully).
