Anyone heard anything about whats going on with my.uo?

It has been "temporarily offline" for several months. closing in on half a year.

    What's going on?

I've been following the other BioWare Mythic games because BioWare Mythic only has one or two people doing all three of the websites for UO, Warhammer, and Camelot. According to what Kai Schober said earlier this year, Camelot has priority, Warhammer is second. He's never said anything about UO which is frustrating as hell.

UO lost MyUO/Guilds, Camelot lost Housing search and some realm stats stuff, Warhammer lost RealmWar and Warhammer was promised new forums over a year ago, but I'm pretty sure they'll just leave the official forums on BioWare.com.

A week or two ago when asked about Camelot getting some of their functionality back on their website such as housing search, Kai said this:

VN Boards - So how many months does the game not even have a functioning Website?

As somebody further down the page states, that's a lame answer because the stats and search had been working for nearly a decade before they remove the functionality:
When asked last month about Warhammer, Kai said this:

    new WAR website looks great!

Later in the thread, Kai posted this which makes me wonder:

People were not happy, because just like with MyUO, RealmWar was a major reason to use the WAR website. Then Kai said, in regards to Camelot:
    Then
Now in his defense, Kai did post a mockup of the new WAR site, so he's working on a website:

    new WAR website looks great!

Of course, Ultima Online Japan still has MyUO, but then again, they have a team separate from BioWare Mythic that does their website and they aren't sharing one person with who knows how many games. I'd still like to know how they warrant an entire team for their website and the rest of UO doesn't. Last I heard, Japanese players make up 50% of UO, but their website is about 500% better than ours.

So when will UO get MyUO? After Kai Schober gets done with Camelot, Warhammer, and then gets around to UO. But there is no guarantee for MyUO, not if he can't add RealmWar status back to Warhammer or housing status back to Camelot. If he can't get those to work, I doubt he can get MyUO working.

The fact that Kai talks about the Camelot and Warhammer websites but has never talked about UO makes me think UO will never get MyUO back or a new website.

Very detailed response, i thank thee!

But srsly, why disable it then, when no resplacement coming, or at least not write its "tempoarily disabled" when not going to come a replacement. should have just let us have it untill its decided its taken off permenently, if that's the case. Instead of insinuating that we get an upgrade/replacement when it appears that is not the case.

    :(

I've had those threads bookmarked since they were posted and check them every so often. I've been tempted to register for an account on one or the other just to ask Kai about UO's website.

As for why disable it then with no replacement or messages about it, the conspiracy theorists among the Warhammer and Camelot posters claim that people were able to glean population numbers from the Realm stats and RealmWar stuff. There was another thread where the Warhammer producer said there was a security issue and the website/services needed to be rebuilt from the ground up before they could add the functionality back.

While the games seemed to have lost their web functionality at different times, I think the Mythic -> Origin account migration was being worked on during that time. If that broke something on the actual websites as each game was being worked on, it would come down to Kai having to go in to the three websites and update whatever scripts were pulling from the game servers. The functionality wasn't removed though - the UO Japan web team kept MyUO up and running, and some Camelot players are claiming that unofficial websites are pulling either housing search or realm data. It's nothing against Kai, but if he had problems upgrading from Drupal 6 to Drupal 7, having to work with the scripts that pull the data from the game servers and display it on a website is probably beyond his ability.

I think that shows a great deal about what Kai and Mythic think about UO personally. Hell they got rid of Chrissay who would keep us all informed and generally interact with us all for some guy who lets face cant even be bothered to give UO a mention.

It dosn't take long to build a website, especially if they have had it working in the past. Its a fob off like what we always get. Not than I'm surprised though its something that always happens...

But hey Mythic, how about this.. if YOU cant do how about contacting one of those many freesharder programmers who can get it sorted out within a day or two (As ya'know, they have it working on thier websites).

While your about it, how about a customer relations guy that actually knows that UO stands for Ultima Online. A game that kicks the hell out of DaoC and War any day (Considering we PAY to play while War is F2P and DaoC has less support than UO).

In short dont give us c**p, the Asian websites have MyUO working so get ours working. Give the developers from Japan a call and ASK for thier help if you guys cant do it!

Oh yeah Mythic has 3 MMO's... UO, DaoC and War... so why is DaoC and War getting 95% of the communication compared to UO's minisicule 5%. Sort it out.

Err....the MyUO section of the UO Japan website is also lacking in functionality. The only thing that currently works there is character search. And even when you do find a character to display, the displayed skills information is not entirely accurate. (For example, if I look up a character whose top skills are 120 smithing, 120 tailoring, and 120 imbuing, the 120 imbuing NEVER shows up as one of her top three skills. My guess is that the same may be true for the other skills that were added with SA and High Seas.)

If you click on the guild link for a displayed character on the UO Japan site, you end up at Kai's notice on the UOHerald site that tells you MyUO is down. If you click on the faction info for a displayed character, you end up in the faction section of the UOHerald site. Once in the faction section of the UOHerald, you end up at Kai's notice if you click on guild or character links.

The ability to log in to the MyUO section of the UO Japan website was disabled on September 9, 2011 apparently because of problems that occurred with the migration of the Account Management system and it was never restored. Notice is here in Japanese: ƒjƒ…[ƒXÚ×. (I think the UO store that was connected to the Japanese site was also shut down at the same time but I believe it is available again.) If you try the links on the UO Japan site that used to lead to MyUO log-in screens, you simply go to the character search page that never required a log-in.

It doesn't matter what you tell him, he's still under the delusion that some Chinese company is developing a 3D UO that will save the MMO industry and bring a new age of peace to the world.

It doesn't help us much, but Kai felt the need to make a comment about the Warhammer website.

Topic new WAR website looks great!
    Kai responded :gee::
I just need to get an account there and PM Kai about UO.

The UO website has been going downhill steadily since we've lacked REAL community rep. Sorry Kai, we had high hopes for you, but they've been long since dashed.

Community relations requires interaction, something we haven't gotten since James (such as his tenure was...), not just posting news on a barely functional website. Fobbing off the BNN Archives as "too difficult/time consuming to convert" showed us Mythic's nonexistant commitment to community. Why keep your own website up to date when the fans do it all for you anyway, right? Why make a playguide when Stratics and UOGuide do it for free? Why host official forums when Stratics and UO Forums do it for free?

I guess its too bad that anyone new to UO (I know, I know, a silly idea) wouldn't know to look for things on these sites to begin with - or might get turned off UO since the publisher doesn't visibly care. (By visibly, I mean on the Herald. Dev posts here don't count as "public" for those who don't use Stratics.)

The Herald is important. Its just too bad that only the Japanese web team are the only ones who get that.

Actually, it's been offline since 30 SEP 2010.... I just posted a request for an update in the 'Ask the Devs' section. Hopefully it will get approved and we can have an answer..... It's pretty distressing.

Below is the time stamp from the Online Game Guide and MyUO:

Looks like the other sites have been down longer as well. I'm definitely going to get an account on the BioWare.com forums and ask Kai myself. The fact that Kai said that Realmwars wasn't coming back for Warhammer makes me wonder if the conspiracy fans were right and somebody was figuring out player numbers.

Our best community rep was by far Jeremy. We had so much communication from her, plus the five on friday. Couldn't have accused anyone of a lack of communication with her around. It's all been downhill since - or maybe we now have higher expectations because of her.

Now it looks like the best Community Rep is one of the art guys. Grimm Omen! Weird! I wonder if he has identified the hole and is feeling a bit like he or someone else should try to plug it.

I liked Jeremy a lot, but I think Chrissay was better. Chrissay was able to help coordinate many HOC player chats and other ways to enhance communication. She was also the last one that really made any progress at getting uo.com updated.

I can't say I remember Chrissay but I do know Jeremy started the process of updating uo.com so I would guess that Chrissay just took to continuing that. However any community rep that even attempted what Jeremy and Chrissay did can be called great.

A million times better than what we have now

i know about 10 accounts that are willing to pay and play but can't over this issue.

Over the years the designers have made some bad mistakes but this one takes the cake

The only person working on the websites still appears to be Kai Schober. He just finished updating the style of DarkAgeofCamelot.com again (twice in the past several months).

They aren't bringing RealmWar back to Warhammer's website, and so far it sounds like stats are not being brought back for the new and improved Camelot website, so I doubt we'll ever see MyUO again. It'd be nice if they talked to the Japanese UO website team and asked them to work on it, but UO Japan is treated a lot different than UO everywhere else.

Lets face it, if Kai is doing the updates then we'll never get anything done to our website. He dosnt give a monkeys about UO, never has and never will.

IMO he's completely useless at his job as he dosnt do anything with the community of UO. And to think they sacked our own UO Community Rep for this? Might as well just have closed the department down. Camelot and Warhammer are both pants compared to UO its just Kai dosnt care for anything other than his 'Mythic' stuff.

I dont think I'll ever fully forgive Mythic for the mass sackings that took place when they brought SA out. I dont normally talk bad about Mythic but thier actions damned Cal when he was producer and signed the documents and they are still damning themselves.

What a complete joke! I just hope Jeff can get this sorted out and hire a Community Rep that actually does his job!

I doubt Kai is a web developer and also a web/graphic designer. But it is a good excuse to blame inaction on Kai having to do everything for 3 games. Mission Accomplished.

  28. Woodsman

    Woodsman Guest

I don't think he is any of those three, to be honest with you. I think they were tacked on to his responsibilities. He implied that just upgrading the Camelot website between different versions of Drupal was tough/complex.

But I also think websites are way down his list of priorities. He promised the Warhammer website update months ago, and last month he flashed a very tiny screenshot of the proposed Warhammer update, but then went silent about it. Since then, the Camelot website was updated again.

Don't forget that the front page of WarhammerOnline.com has "lead" stories that are over a year old, and that there are still no easy to find tutorials about the new account system for any of the games, unless you look at the Camelot Wikia page.
Kai is doing community relations for 4 games actually, when you count Wrath of Heroes. I'm still not sure what Rowland Cox does other than post an occasional update on one of the Heralds. Kai is the one who talks on the official BioWare Mythic Warhammer forums, and he occasionally sticks his head in on the IGN boards and he is the only person talking about website updates to any of the Bioware Mythic games.

I don't think they care too much about the BioWare Mythic websites, to be honest. EA has dozens, maybe 100+ people who do nothing but develop and keep EA websites running, BioWare appears to have their own web team and BioWare websites such as SWTOR.com are running Drupal, the same software that powers Camelot, Warhammer, and UO's websites, and neither group can be bothered to update those websites or add functionality back to Camelot or UO's websites that was around for over 10 years.

When the Ultima producer says "If I get my way yes. ;) It’s time to go back to our roots and bring back UO.com" in response to somebody asking about fixing up the UO website, that implies that he has no control over UO's website.

I'm being cynical as hell, but EA and BioWare have the ability to knock out the website updates quickly. They choose not to. The fact that UO's website appears to not even be under control of the Ultima producer seals it.

How sad is it that UltimaForever.com, a website generated to create attention and provide a free download for Ultima IV, is a much better looking website than UO's website, which is for a game bringing in millions every year.

Some of those threads about the other Mythic websites are still active, even as of the past week, although Kai is no longer posting in them.

Camelot: So how many months does the game not even have a functioning Website?

Warhammer: new WAR website looks great!

Kai's last post about any of the websites for Mythic was last month about Warhammer:

I've been wondering if perhaps WHO, DAoC, and UO will see something new for browsing character, guild, and faction information once SW:TOR is up and running and that whatever it is will be a clone of what SW:TOR uses. And/or perhaps this information will eventually be accessible to us through the Origin.com website.

  31. Woodsman

SWTOR is going to have a lot of web-enabled stuff going on. Actually it already does - they are building up guilds before the game even launches.

I don't think it would trickle down though. They seem reluctant to allocate resources to updating the three websites now.

As for Origin.com, God I hope not, because they want to tie everything into Facebook/social networking.

He may have "project managed" the upgrade of Dark Age of Camelot but I doubt he did the development and graphics. It is more likely that the DAoC producer PMed the upgrade including getting budget approval and the resources for it.

  33. Woodsman

    Woodsman Guest

There doesn't seem to have been any resources put into any of the website upgrades. If he had went outside of Kai or BioWare Mythic, it would have already been finished and the other websites would have been finished as well. A version upgrade for Drupal should not take a month or more. That's why I think Kai is doing the website stuff in addition to his other duties.

I still have never heard why UO Japan has a team supporting its website while UO everywhere else is sharing Kai with three other games.

^^ So in his part-time, artwise Kai on the DAoC site has designed graphics several orders of magnitude better in quality than any art we have seen UO in the last 5 years. LMAO.
