I just discovered this little beauty last night.

Previously, when a stone wall was casted and a player was standing on that tile, the stone wall would not go up, but the surrounding tiles would have a stone wall.

I think it should be reverted back to the old way, and heres why.

There are alot of people that purely play stealth archers and all they ever do is res kill. I get it - I've done it and its fun to do sometimes. Not saying its an invalid play style.

But one of the only ways to prevent res kills is to res, surround in stone walls, and then take the res.

But now, when you cast stone walls to surround yourself, there could be a stealther sitting on the corner and the wall gets cast on top of them. They can still see the inside tile and get a res kill.

    Please change it back.

agreed, and fix fielding with houses again. The current system is garbage. You can't cast fields on someones house.

I would suggest that the next time around people are asking for changes you do not like, you offer counter point as to why things are a bad idea. I catch a lot of slack for posting my opinion here, but I would rather post it and defend my stance than cry after the fact when stuff gets nerfed.

so you think that the stone wall should give away the stealthers position by having a blank tile?

Exactly like it did for years..?

    Yes..

  8. No one asked for it, it was just noticed in game recently.

You do not catch slack, you catch flack or flak.

Without posting on any random topic that "popps" into someone's head, it would be fairly time consuming to defend their stance before knowing it's even a topic.

I completely agree it needs changing back, this makes it far too easy to keep people down, even if they hit an area spell to reveal the corner you can just duck behind the other part of the wall then step back again.

actually i agree with the changes...

-stealthers shouldnt be revealed by a stone wall.
-fields shouldnt be castable on houses..
-now stonewall can be used for escape, which seems to me to be its originally intended purpose..

edit: oh wait, cant really use it for escape as it always appears in the same direction... devs can we make it perpendicular to the direction your facing on a self-macro?thx..

If you're blue, could gain up compassion virtue. If you're red, I guess stone was best. If you're at Yew Gate, well, you're sorta asking for rez kills. I'm surprised it took so long for someone to talk about the change though. Heh, since almost no one takes the time to invest tracking on a PvP character, or detect hidden, I guess there should be a revert. Or you could tell the guy to wait on the rez, EQ the area before the guy rezzes, then pre-cast gheal as he rezzes. I mean, Yew Gate problem? Or real problem?

Either way, might as well have it like it was forever.

I believe if you're running full tilt on a mount and someone places a fast stone wall in front of you, you should slam into the wall either being dismounted or stunned. You ever ran into a brick wall while riding at top speed on the back of a horse? Hell look at crash test dummy videos.

Its a problem everywhere, not just yew gate. Most shard specific ****ty zergs roll so deep with numbers that they can afford to have a few stealthers in addition to the normal roster.

If you res, 3 stone walls, EQ, you MIGHT get a heal up in time before the walls drop, but definitely not an invis. Secondly, the EQ might not even reveal.

Yeah it is one of the unique techniques that helps make UO enjoyable and different from other games. And prevents griefing in a skillful way. It should be fixed to not cover players.

Well, actually people did ask for it when they made their complaints about fields being disruptive on houses. Coding can have an adverse affect on areas other than intended. When people complain about this or that and a change is made...they have time to check out test center to see if any adverse undersirable changes occur.

In this instance, test center was open for weeks with the new potential coding. However, people didn't complain about the potential *upgrades* until they hit production shards...as a result...even after one change to make *corrections* fields are still worse than they were when we started.

Now...what can be done to kept this type of thing from happening? Biggest thing I can think that will help would be to move the testing off of origin and over to a more populous server. (there simply isn't enough players there to adequately test and discuss all aspects of coding changes made.) Second, the players need to take responsibility to make sure changes made are the type needed in the game and in addition what they asked for.

Until that occurs, players will have to take it upon themselves to take responsibility for what they wish for...regardless of the actual end result. We cannot get upset for things that we as the base do not look over ourselves and thoroughly test.

I think it was accidental, basically, it looked like one of the devs who played got pwned by fields and decided to take it upon himself to change the fields without asking anyone, then when they went to fix it after the mass complaints, it was another poor programming job.

I dont feel like wasting time building a suit to test my characters on test center.

By default, I should be able to log on test center with the same equipment/gear that I have on production shards.

Do that, and I'll probably log on test when a new pub hits, just as I'm sure many others would.

So lazy, what is more of effort though is that you have to do the spellweaving quests on test.

Then you shouldn't complain when issues arise as a result of your inaction. We as players are responsible to give feedback and do testing...that is the nature of the beast.

How hard is it to say *give arties* on test? You have the AoF, Orny, pendant to start...more than enough to test things as mundane as this.

    This.

We waste enough of our time farming ingredients/making suits and weapons/stocking pots/waiting for stat loss to have to sit on some server that nothing will be saved on and have to do everything all over again. Just to test everything they're changing and on top of it look for small flaws that were unintended.

As mentioned, how tough is it to say *give arties*? Unless you are pvping, there is no reason why any average joe cannot test this stuff out with the most basic and free equipment readily available to everyone. Since a person can cut and paste macros from other chars once the char has been created on test, this is even less of a chore than people let on to.

  21. No, we aren't.

UO has (believe it or not) a QA department that is *supposed* to test the changes they're adding before they make it into the game.

Sadly the QA department usually fails even the most cursory look at whats implemented, to see if it's even doing what it's supposed to. Players don't have access to the design documents so are unable to know if something is working as intended or not.

In addition to that, apart from a few really big problems there have been over the years, the majority of feedback given about things on TC is ignored and the publish pretty much always goes live.

As usual RC is wrong, too bad even though he's on my ignore list he still shows up when other people quote him.

People get paid to do QA - I pay to play. It is not my responsibility to test anything. It's like you're a computer program designed to constantly post incorrect information and skewed point of view.

When I only have time to play maybe 2 or 3 hours per day, 3 nights a week, I don't want to spend 1/2 of that time building a suit. I'm sure its fine for the unemployed people out there.

If this were a large production game I would agree with your thoughts. This however is not currently one of them. As a result of cutbacks, downsizing, smaller playerbase...UO expends less resources to different areas...including QA. We as players are left holding the torch, it is up to us to help this smaller team make up the difference.

As far as your second comment goes...it isn't that they are getting ignored...the problem is our own stupid responses and lack of people debating them.

Personally I thought walls were fine the way they were before all the ridiculous field changes. If people didn't initially like the aspects of fields, they should have just stayed out of fel.

If it is not your responsibility to test the changes players ask for, then what right do you have complaining about the results?

If I was a computer program, I would at least be familiar with the terms alpha or beta testing and their use. You know, that external testing often done by none company sources.

Incorrect information/skewed view? only if the green in your world.
