Hey guys ... got another question. (So what else is new :mf_prop: )

I've been doing some more reading ... this time about building a Sampire. It sounded like a nice compliment to my ABC Archer. I have lots of Soul Stones. One of them has 100 Necromancy. I also have a 100 Parry, and 100 Swords. It looks like with a little work I will be able to "stone" Antony between ABC Archer and Sampire with a few thrown in Jewelry/Armor/Weapon substitutions.

Can some of you give me an overview of your skills .... what ones do you maybe stone in and out? Any + skills on anything?

Connor_Graham, I saw mention of you in the Sampire Sticky and using Soulstones ... I have a bunch of them myself .... I like to scroll up my key characters whith as many 120's as I can get and then I can swap skills in and out to come up with a bunch of different types to play .... what skills do you keep on your stones that you would use for your ABC Archer / Sampire? Do you have to use any + skill adders on your Jewels/Armor/Weapon? (I know that you avoid that whenever possible)

Thanks for any help ..... :thumbup1:

  2. For my Sampire, I have GM Resist & SS, along with all of the weapon skills available to swap out depending on what I plan on fighting. Anatomy would be the skill that would be swapped out for one of these.

As far as swapping between an ABC archer and a Sampire, you'd need the wep skill obviously, Tactics at 115 and GM, Healing for Necro, drop Resist entirely off the archer, Chiv at 60 & 75, and Parry would drop off the Sampire.

The only +skill item I have is +10 Chiv on my Sampire's ring to boost the natural 60 skill he already has, just to cut down on casting failures. The armor and jewels themselves I think would have to be completely swapped out for each setup, as each has stress on different things. Archers don't need DCI for example, and high mana regen and MI aren't necessary for a Sampire.

I want to make sure that I have this right ...

    ABC Archer
    Archery 120
    Bushido 120
    Tactics 115
    Healing 100
    Anatomy 100
    Resist Magic 90
    Chivalry 75
    Total = 720

    Sampire
    In my case Swordsmanship 120
    Bushido 120
    Parry 120
    Tactics 100
    Necromancy 100
    Spirit Speak 100
    Chivalry 60 ... with a +10 on your Ring
    Total = 720

And also as a sanity check ......

With 100 Spirit Speak you would use Wraith Form?

And if you were to use Vamp Form instead would you swap out 100 Spirit Speak and swap in 100 Anatomy?

  4. Swap Anatomy for the SS for a standard sampire template. SS is normally for using wraith form, which is the way you have to take Travesty on now.

    Antony,

I think you'll kick yourself in the end of you try to make one guy both an ABC Archer and a Sampire using soulstones. You'll have to make serious trade-offs for some of the common skills like tactics and chivalry. As Connor stated, the suits for both characters is different. I think you're better off making two separate characters and outfitting them both.

Is there a reason why you want to keep all of the skills on one character?

    Hi Obsidian,

Only reason that I would have them all on one characters is the number of 120 Scrolls that I would need.

I play two accounts ... I was actually looking at putting the Sampire on my other account .... but it's still up in the air.

When you say "make compromises" does that mean that the two templates that Connor suggested (actually three) would be different then they are if you did them AND if I wasn't intending to use a single character and Soulstones? From what I see here I would need two different values for Tactics (115 and 100) and two different values for Chivalry (75 and 60) other than that they would work .... OR do you feel that there are other compromises being made for the sake of Stoning a Single Character?

Hey I'm ALWAYS open to suggestions .... that's why I post ... you guys are the experienced ones ..... and I appreciate the fact that you are willing to share ..... I listen to all of you BUT in the end I make my own decisions about what to do.

Tell me what you would do ..... right now I have like 12 Soulstones on one account and around 27 on the other .... so I have lots of options .... and I have a decent supply of Gold to help me along the way.

So ... go for it :thumbup1: and as always THANKS

  7. The biggest issue you'll run into is the fact that you'd need 2 completely different sets of armor and jewels for each template. If your concern about PS's is strictly gold, you do realize that the only 120 scroll that would duplicate between the 2 is Bushido right? You'd still have to buy 1 of each of the other scrolls for every one of the other skills.

    Connor,

I don't have a problem with the two different sets of armor and jewels .... I would need that anyway even if I had them on different characters, or even on different accounts.

As far as what is needed scrolls wise and whatever else ... I've done a character to character, account to account analysis ... I have a clear understanding of what I need there .... not only what skills I will have to develop, and what scrolls I need, but also approx of what each option will cost ...

One nice thing about having two separate characters is not having to "change things over" anytime I want to switch ....

As they say "The Jury is still out" ... the BIGGEST question I would have is am I compromising any of my characters by using the stoning method ... I have no problem spending more or working harder if the end result is to have "deadlier" characters ....

while i dont have a sampire i only have 1 warrior that i do switch out with soulstones.

    my keeper skills are
    anatomy, tactics,bushido,chiv and healing
    my switching skills are
    swords, parry, archery and resist

with some planning you can add necro in there.. just gotta make 2 sets of some skills.

    skills on stones would be
    120 weapon
    120 tactics
    100 tactics
    120 busido
    120 parry
    100 anat
    100 healing
    90 resist
    120 resist
    60 or 70 chiv

switch anat healing for necro and add 120 resist for a sampire

    Antony,

Ok, you have more soulstones than the average player. When I said you'd be making compromises I didn't think you'd have both 60 Chiv and 75 Chiv on stones and 115 Tactics and 95 Tactics on stones. So I supposed you can do it, but you're going to spend a fair bit of time re-setting each time you want to switch templates. The macros I use are slightly different for the sampire and the ABC Archer.

If the only scrolls you'd save by putting everything on one character are a stat scroll and a 120 bushido scroll, I personally would make two characters.

Well I decided to go with two separate Characters .... ON SEPARATE Accounts. I got a real good deal on a 120 Bushido Scoll ... and that's the only one that I needed for that character.

    Here's what I have to do ....

Get 120 Bushido ... already up to 103.5
Get another 20 points Parry .... already have 100
    Get 100 Necromancy .... and 100 Spirit Speak ...
    Get 60 Chivalry

Everything else I already have (100 tactics, 100 Anatomy, 120 Swordsmanship

I think the biggest pain will be the 20 points for Parry ... the others are pretty easy .... will take awhile but not too bad

Oh yeah ... will have to make armor, jewels, weaps ....

  14. Use the sheep method for Parry. Should take about an hour or 2.

Thanks Connor ... that's what I was gonna try ...

I tried it a little the other day but it seemed way slow ... I know I must have been doing something wrong ... wrong skills? wrong equipment? Can you give me some advice on what to do ... I already have a rune marked for a good sheep spot in Trammel.

    Connor,

I found this from one of your previous posts ....

"If your Bushido is still low, then yes, stone it off. If it's near GM or above simply equip a shield and a wep you don't have skill in. Best bet is to head to the nearest sheep pen and get them all attacking you, tab out so you don't attack back, then sit back and heal when needed. Gains will fly at that point."

I think what did wrong was not equiping a shield .... I thought that the bushido would "auto parry" without one .... probably read something like that someplace else.

Soooo ..... my Bushido will be 120, I'll equip a Shield (probably doesn't matter what type) and since this guy is a Swordsman I'll give a Kyrss a try.

I'm assuming that there's no "in a guild" "not in a guild" trick here ... and I I'm also assuming trammel .... but all that is easy enough to fiddle with.

    :danceb:

I'll let you know .... Thanks

Parry gains always seem to take a while to start when using sheep. I'm not certain but I believe it's because they start with low wrestling skill and they need to gain some additional skill before they can reliably hit you (even when you're using a weapon you have no proficiency with). Stick with it for 30 minutes or so and you should begin to gain.

Good piece of info there Thobius .... probably a "lack of patience" on my part played into my perception of slow gains. :wall:

Well all I can say is thanks ...... 100 to 120 Parry in 1 hour 50 minutes .... some advice though .... don't wear any decent armor, those sheep eat that stuff up ... good thing it was only an imbued training suit.

So here's what I have so far ....

    120 Swordsmanship
    120 Bushido
    120 Parry
    100 Tactics
    100 Anatomy
    30.8 Necromancy ...... 69.2 to go
    26.1 Spirit Speak ...... 73.9 to go

I didn't start Chivalry yet .... and I think I'm gonna throw in getting an 86 Resist to 100 ... just to have that option also.

I'm also starting to try and map out my armor .... it's sounding like Fey Leggings should be part of it ... at least it sounds that way from what I'm reading ... are there any other pieces (non-crafted that is) that I should be looking for?

And what's this that I am reading about a Trained Swamp Dragon? Don't tell me my Tamer needs to get out into the Swamp and train one of those things too .... all I can say is I'm glad that I like this tedious crap.

Again ... Thanks to everyone ... Time for a Cold One :pint: or two or three

  20. You don't need your swampy to be trained. You just need to have one that's wearing exceptional barding. The others will have to help you with the armor. I use the Assassin armor set and don't remember what my first suit even was at this point.

Whelp I got the 60 Chivalry this morning before heading to work ....

Gonna work on Necromancy next so I can get started playing with this guy. I'm gonna train on another character and then "stone it over" so I don't blast the karma of my Sampire

Once he's done I'm gonna kick back and "play" with my ABC Archer and Sampire .... both of these characters are "allot" more complex to play than anything I've played in the past .... hopefully I'm gonna get decent enough to head into lots of new places.

I'll work on my 100 Spirit Speak and 100 Resist as time permits.

I start vacation today .... I'm off until January 4th ... I'm SURE there will be a decent amount of UO times thrown in over vacation

BTW .... I did some early Christmas shopping "FOR MYSELF" this morning too ...

    I picked up

    - Mace and Shield Glasses
    - Crimson Cincture
    - Stormgrips
    - Rune Beetle Carapace
    - Primer on Arms Damage Removal
    - Fey Leggings

Later today I'm going to go over everything to see what I mods I have and what I need .... guess I have Jewelry, neck, and arms to work on yet

Oh yeah ... got to tame a Swamp Dragon too .... hoping not to sound "TOO IGNORANT" ... what do you mean "Exceptional Barding Armor" .... do I find one that has that or do I get Armor for them?

    :danceb:

Smiths make armor for swamp dragons (item is called a barding).

  23. You'll also want a Conjurer's Trinket to use against anything that isn't Repond. It's got 10 HCI on it, so it's a nice bonus item to have.

Smith's make the dragon barding deeds. The ones you want will say "Exceptional" in the name, and are the only ones you want to use. Metal type doesn't matter other than just to look good.
