Good to see that Stratics Forums are back online. Now even with decent performance. Welcome back!
Let's hope it stays back, it's been a bumpy ride since the management change!
Understatement of the year...la
Its working the same as ever, though the warnings are still there.
The two are not related, just coincidence they happened at the same time. The problems we've been having that started yesterday (the weird code and virus warnings) were a hack attempt. It was stopped and the site cleaned up.
Now that the site is clean google has to re-scan it and clear the warnings. From what I understand this may take a few hours to a few days. They're annoying, but hopefully should be going away soon.
Correction. It was not a hack ATTEMPT, the site WAS hacked.
6 of one, half dozen of the other. Point is that it wasn't messed up because someone pushed the wrong button while working on something behind the scenes. The new guys have had enough bad press, they don't need to be unfairly blamed for this too.
pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, he's just washing dishes for the chef
hacked is the wrong term to use. there was no altering done to the website nor any control given. the server was simply infected by a trojan or some form of malware... totally different from hacking.
With the new page setup, my acct was logged out. In order to post I had to log in, because of the "current' warning message still, I had to disable the message just to log in Stratics. Every time I hit my password the stupid warning message would pop up, I would ignore it, and it would return me to the log in screen....ridiculous and inconvenient.
Technically that isn't true, There was a database file altered and injected with code.
It cleaned up ... it was still warning on FF about 430 PM EDT but I just logged in at 515 EDT and no warnings at all.
Google has most likely done their part of it.
Was there any risk to our computers and phones that we came to the site on?
Google was giving me warnings on both my home and work computers yesterday. I scanned both and came back clean each time. I'd do a scan just to be safe, but I'd be surprised if you found anything.
Got 2 trojans from Stratics yesterday.
Scan my computer every day at the same time in the morning.
By three o'clock after being on the stratics forums I had the trojan horses. Never downloaded anything. Running firefox.
Seems fine now, but yes there was risk, and yes everyone who was on Stratics yesterday should do a virus scan.
I did as well.
Exactly two. Never downloaded anything, running Chrome.
So I second that, do a virus scan (which you should be doing anyway folks!)
my program is not finding any trojans. a few adware cookies that are normal. what scan programs did u guys use.
also is my phone at risk. i was reading the hack post yesterday on my phone but i do not think i was logged in on my comp
The pages seem to be loading a lot faster for me.
I didn't get any trojans from stratics, so I bought some at krogers.
i stand corrected.
but stratics wasn't 'hacked' was it ? injecting code via a trojan etc does not require being hacked.
I use Micro Trend Security Pro. As best I can tell nothing other than some cookies got through.
well, a big thanks to the ones who put in all the hours to get it straightened out, seems to be working better than ever.
I would definitely call acquiring the admin password and using it to modify webpages "being hacked". This is what George reported yesterday.
I shouldn't count chicken before they hatch. Now Stratics is as slow as before.
