Subduing question

I've begun a new template I've not tried before and am wondering what subdues a creature for while attempting to tame a giant beetle I am informed the creature must be subdued first.

Since my tamer doesn't have eval I usually cast blade spirits, it can take a couple. Be prepared to use dispel on their lifebar (drag it off) so when you get the subdued message you won't accidentally kill them. I've also ridden in on a nightmare and attacked the beetles that way, but you risk poisoning the beetle and killing it off. If you cast directly on it it will superspeed to you and chomp on you for a bit, so I'd really not recommend going that route unless your character is a melee type fighter/tamer with good armor.

To subdue a blue beetle (or fire beetle) al you have to do is damage it until it is almost dead. It will give you a message saying it has "been beaten to submission" or something like that. Then you can tame it. You can use any damage method you want to do this. They can still attack you, so take care.

Earth Elementals are a good way to beat down a blue beetle. Though you need more magery to cast them than blade spirits, you can command them like any other pet. This means you can call them off when you need to and release them without using more mana. If you cannot cast them naturally, get a few scrolls. Casting from the scroll counts as two circles lower.

If you are using a mount to do the damage, then you can just hop on the pet when the beetle gives you the message. I usually go through four beetles with my mare before it accidentally does not kill one.

Make sure to have 3 follower slots open before you attempt to tame one. It may sound silly, but it happens to me all the time when I tame one for someone at the bank. It just slips my mind.

Yeah Earth Elemental's is how I do it.

When the Blue or Fire Beetle's HP's are close to the min I call it off and release it.

I use an EV and when I get the submission message I pop the mass dispell spell I have pre-cast.

To subdue a blue beetle I first stable the mare, because it almost always either poisons it or explodes it. Nothing more frustrating than 'you start to... ' 'bang'.
I find my frenzied is ideal for this, the lower damage it does makes for better control, no unfortunate 'late arriving' damage and just hop on it when the message appears.

  8. I use summoned Earth eles. They're slow on the swingspeed and light on the damage, so once i get the target to 1/4 health i release one, and once i get the animal subdued, i release the other.

With my peace tamer, I usually subdue fire beetles and giant beetles the same way: Direct peace them and hit them with 3-4 Mind Blast spells and maybe an E-bolt or Fireball spell. (With no Evaluate Intelligence skill, her E-bolt spells don't do a wole lot of damage.)
