Why is there not a standardised rate for monthly subscriptions? 9.99 in each currency might seem standard to a 5 year old but in reality it's ridiculous that some people should be paying more than others for the same product based on their physical location. Is the extra revenue from European subscribers all thats keeping UO afloat?

That has nothing to do with UO that is tax rates fees etc added by governments

So you have never paid extra for anything else or been affected by taxes or exchange rates before?

Just get someone in a different country to activate your account for you or use a proxy. Then you pay in dollars or whatever currency you want.

It's not just the tax, which is calculated seperately, it's also the exchange rate that is non-existent (1EUR = 1$ = 1GBP or sometimes even worse!)

When your neighbours steal from the shop, does that make it OK for you to steal from the shop too?

It's really not out of their hands, even if I deduct the tax it still works out to about $3 more than US subscribers pay. This is an issue divorced from taxes or exchange rates, EA is charging everyone 9.99 whether its $, £ or Euros which is by no means a fair system.

The point should be obvious, just because someone else does morally deplorable things, it doesn't make it right for EA in this case, to do the same thing, and consumers have EVERY right to complain that they feel they're being ripped off. And in in my opinion - they should, until companies stop doing this kind of thing. Just like DRM on software, just because one company does it, it still isn't a good practise. And people should discourage it by simply not buying the products that are subject to those limitations.

Did you bother to add this in, %15 vat ( EU tax law ) may explaine why you are paying so much.

EA is not ripping anybody off, EU has a VAT of %15, EU added the cost not EA.

I'm pretty sure its $9.99 (per month) IF you buy 6 months at a time.

... plus tax which applies in some federal states of the USA.
I find it crazy, that credit card payment for 6 month via subscription now is more expensive than buying a GTC in Origin store here.

Which is added ON TOP of the 9.99 or 12.99 Euros as seperate charge in the checkout! Why can't you read?

EA is still ripping people off, as 12.99 Dollar is not 12.99 Euros.

If paying per month, with taxes, EU people should pay 9.91 Euros for the base subscription fee and 15% tax which is 11.39 euros.

In reality, we're paying 12.99 + ~3 euros tax fee (don't remember the exact amount, but it was way more than 15%) upon checkout, so we pay almost 16 euros per month. That's 21 dollars!

OK here comes Mom to clear this up kiddies

    UO cost:
    $12.99 for a standard month
    $ 9.99 for 6 month paid up front subscription (thats 9.99 x 6 = 59.94)
    * there is a rate between the two but its quibbling over pennys in my book.
Most of us pay a flat rate here in the USA, but there are some states if you look at your billing that make EA collect taxes at the state you live in's rate. California had them collecting for a time as was ordered by our govenor to help them with the budget...... (voters got mad... )
This also goes for Foriegn countrys..
England is prime example.. but most of the other countrys do the same...

We cant blame EA for this one kiddos
This is the place you live in taking a bite out of your gaming money.

Or you can work around it.

Use proxies/friends to find the country that is cheapest, and use the system against itself. Was fun to pay WoW's fees in Yuan while Chinese accounts could still play at EU servers :)

This eventually will lead straight to credit card payment rejection due to the credit card used from a different region than registered.

Only had that problem (With EA funny enough) while I lived in a different country for work, while my bank account and creditcard was still in the country where I have citizenship. No matter what I tried, EA would refuse payment. Eventually got it to work by using proxy to different continent LOL!

If they start blocking creditcard transactions because card is registered in a different country, then all the expats are screwed.

ahh... there are a lot of weird things besides the cost difference, think EU has it bad?..

If I remember correctly, AOS was Launched in the US before it was available in Canada... a day or two, just long enough to ensure people in the US got all the housing.

That wasn't the firs, or last thing to make me go hmmm... with respect to Canada.

I'm in CA, I buy EA game cards [[email protected] apiece]....there is no tax on this purchase. I scratch 'n sniff the cards, enter the code at the online origin store like it tells me to do. This gives me a balance of $60 American currency with origin store. I then purchase a 6 month UO game code for $ 59.99 which gets deducted from my store balance. Thus, $60 cash gets transformed into 6 months of UO game time. Again, no taxes or tariffs or godonly knows whatever else it is they are hitting you with. For the record I buy the EA game cards at Toys 'R Us:]

So has this entire thread boiled down to someone complaining(and being backed up)because they dont know about or take advantage of gametime codes?

    Lol at that.

Will those ignorant about EU or Uk tax please stop the flippant comments saying that this accounts for the difference. Storm ... you started that.

    I pay £9.99 GBP
    That equates to $15.33

UK VAT (value added tax) equates to 20%, not the 50%+ extra that EA are charging me.

    Get your facts right.

It is a fact that there are gametime codes available at very low rates.

I am not in the UK but cannot these be purchased at an equal value?

This applies to me as well... here I pay a little extra because Colorado adds some kind of small tax on online purchases. The extra goes to my state not EA.
