I'm always paranoid I'm going to unravel or recycle one of my precious items. It would be nice if, for insured items you could activate a "protected" mode. When you activate this option if you ever try to drop, trade, unravel or recycle an insured item you will get a captcha popup, ie:

    Here's an idea: Personal Responsibility.

I hear it works out great when applied.

Ah, I wasn't aware of that. If that's the case, great.

Here's an idea, how about you keep your politics off of these forums?

I'm quite sure you are perfect, you never make mistakes, and when you do make them, in spite of the fact that you are perfect, you always own up to them immediately, and take full responsibility, and you are never sick, and anyone that is sick or poor, it's their own damned fault, in game or out of it, etc.

Like I said, keep your politics off these forums, or take it to the OT forum. I'm sure you'll find lots of angry young sympathizers there. ;)

Actually, you can unravel insured items. I did it. Quite frankly, I agree with Aran on this one. There is already a warning when unravelling artifacts and player crafted items. The way I avoid unravelling "insured" items, is that I place the items I do want to unravel into specific bags/chests. Those items I do not desire to unravel are placed elsewhere.

Personal responsibility isn't a matter of politics, it's a matter of fact. In the military we use a term called "Operational Risk Management" or "ORM". It's a 5 step process:
    Identify the hazzards
Assess the risks (severity and probability of occurance)
Make risk decisions (does benefit outweigh risk?)
    Implement risk mitigations
    Supervise

Apply that to unravelling, and you should have no problems.

When he used the phrase "Personal Responsibility" in just that way, it's was a political statement that had very little to do with "fact", and everything to do with his world view.

I don't mind you disagreeing with me, or making the statement, as you have that you think we should pay the price for our own mistakes when it comes to things like that, just don't use it as an excuse to peddle your politics.

For me, I use the enhanced client. You can set up macros to dress, undress, and switch equipment and weapons around, but you can't undress or unequip items into a specific container with the enhanced client. You can right click to loot with the enhanced client, but you can't loot into a specific container.

This means that all the items I loot will tend to be mixed up in my pack with any optional or supplemental equipment or items that I carry. I generally only loot items to unravel them, so while I can be careful, I would rather have a "stupid light" to prevent me from being, well stupid, because I know no matter how careful I am I am perfectly capable of making mistakes.

My other option is to not use macros to dress, undress, or switch equipment, but to always click and drag, and to not use right click to loot, but to always click and drag, which would mean I no longer have access to some of the best functionality the enhanced client has to offer, it would also make me less effective in both pvp and pvm.

So as I hope you can see, my suggestion had nothing to do with my political views, and I don't think much to do with laziness either, or anything other than a recognition of my own fallibility... ;)

wouldn't it just be easier if they just plain didn't let you unravel insured or blessed items period

nah ... that would make too much sense - hehe

(or add them to bods you're filling ...)

That would be a simpler, more effective solution.

First, I'm not getting how dress/undress and auto loot functions of the EC apply to being sure of what you place into your unravelling container. Also, placing moving items from your pack to the unravelling container (I must have erroneously assumed you would do this at your house or bank following PvP or PvM, and that you would unravel from a container vice from your pack) should have no impact on PvP or PvM. Either way, I don't disagree with your idea in total. I merely pointed out that as it is now, it is incumbent upon the player to be certain of what they are unravelling lest said player be at risk of unintentionally unravelling something of value to him/her. As I doubt this idea will be implemented soon, my recommendation still stands as a solid mitigation against that risk.

It has everything to do with it. One of the ways I can think of to prevent yourself from accidentally moving items to be unravelled from your pack to a container they might be unravelled in is to keep all the items you wish to keep in a separate container. Even better if you could loot into a container so you wouldn't need to move anything and you would just unravel everything in that container.

The EC doesn't allow you to do this, it is one of the few things you can do with UOA that you can't do in the EC (that is undressing or unequipping into a specific bag). In the EC if you are actively pvm'ing and using the right click to loot, everything ends up jumbled together in your root pack. I would think it would be pretty easy to see how in that situation you could end up moving something you wanted to keep into a container to be unravelled.

I asked for this when it first come in and we used unraveling bags, pretty much got the same responses. Which are don't be dumb or some other stupid comment.

Interesting points. As I said, I'm not against adding that capability. So, until this feature is adopted, my previous post still stands as a mitigation to the risk you face.

Well one thing that I do that mitigates the risk is I dye all my items, including jewelry. It means that I am less likely to confuse them with loot items. So far it has worked...

Whatever Aran. I could explain it to you, but it really isn't worth the effort, and I'm not interested in getting into that kind of a discussion with you.

UOAssist had the undress bag and the hotsell bag. I thought those 2 of the greatest features on UOA. I wish we had something like that in the new client.

But they should make a pop-up warning you if you are about to sell/unravel/whatever an insured or blessed item.
