Most everyone I know that dyed their armor was pretty certain that EA would ruin a good thing and try to revert this, based soley on their inability to accept Neon. Look man, just because you didnt put it in the game and you don't like to look at it doesnt mean that alot of people DO like it, and even knowing that they were going to lose a valuable charge of Dyes, they did it anyway, because it was worth it to them.

Why can't the Devs call this a happy accident and walk away?!?!?! The player base obviously likes it or you wouldnt see the deeds selling for 3m on a vendor! Please rethink this, it would cost less to leave it be than to Dev, QA, Test Center and then Pulish a fix. PLEASE RECONSIDER

I don't think this is a fix that requires a lot of testing, and it's an eyesore.

    Revert.

Sorry, but I have to ask. Are you one of those people who payed a huge amount of money for a dyed swamp dragon?

Sorry, but I'm all for the revert. I know that there are sure to be people who like it, but if it wasn't intended in the first place, it shouldn't be allowed to stay. Not to mention that constantly seeing people running around in full neon gives me a massive headache if I hang around too long...

Nope, I had plenty of dye left over, but I just don't understand why everyone must ask others to change their behavior for the sake of their eyes, change the contrast on your screen and let other people be. I know they wont leave it in game, but they will spend a ton of time creating some completely useless consumable system and not fix bugs that have been here for years.

Virtues? 11 Anny Gifts?? OSI owned Houses?

They can't finish the virtues because they have no ideas on how to implement them.

    Dunno about 11th Anniversary Items...

They don't know where all the OSI owned houses are, that's why they asked players to send in coordinates so they can remove them as time permits.

There were already ideas on Stratics (at least a while back) for Spirituality and Humility. The Humility idea would be a little tough though, since it involved young players I believe, and how often do you see those now?

I understand where you are coming from, but if they allowed the colors to stay, then people will want all their animals to be colored.
The Devs are not listening to players who don't want this the hued swampys. If they wanted them to stay the way it is, they wouldn't be reverting it back. One of the devs commented on this not too long after the event went live confirming that this was not intended.

Well in reality it's not the animal thats being colored just the temporaly armor on a swamp dragon. Main reason to use a swampy is to fight with not just ride.Ofcourse bank sitters will keep on them but thats no big. SO the armor will be destroyed eventually anyway when in use.

I am pretty easy going, so the colored Swampies didn't bother me. I like checking out everyone's outfits and unique style, of all colors. I like variety, and it was nice to see players proud of their newly-barded Swampies. :)

Since this little glitch, we've discovered that many players would like more color options for Swamp Dragon Barding. I think letting the Barding Deeds still able to be dyed with the Slimes would be nice, as well as something new for the craftable Deeds. How about allowing BOD cloth be combined with the other ingredients required for Barding Deeds with the result being trim/highlights of the BOD cloth color on the finished Barding? It wouldn't require much, just some changes to existing art.

TheGrimmOmen...Swampies need some love from the artists!

Not every shard is selling them for that much, and frankly if they spent that much money on something that will break eventually, well, they're richer than I am. I don't mind color and am open to new things, but tbh those are just to big, imo, to dye some of those colors. And I think we've seen from other posts at least the Stratics majority say they go. The rest should send in their requests to keep it in the proper channels. *points to sig*

Swampies are huge and ugly , being bright colors just makes it worse. but i wouldnt mind seeing them in the darker shades bc they are less offensive to the eye.

Attention cravers is exactly what I get out of people that did it, as well, 4th man. I completely agree.

And one more thing, if people KNEW it was going to get wiped, and STILL spent their money on it, then that's what they get. Sorry, feel no pity for them.

Personally, I can't stand neon colors on anything, and seeing those big swampies running around bright red is just really annoying.

All this arguing over techno-colored swamp pickles......

It was mentioned shortly after the publish they were not intended, everyone had fair warning. Some people can't seem to remember the past like the multi-colored neon hued Hooded Shrouds becoming Monks robes.

Other than that if you dont like the metal hues of swampies there are 2 more colours to chose from...

Really only useful for banksitting tho.

They are disgusting imo, it wasnt a players that forced the change, it was the same thing as players being able to place houses in towns...

Therefore, it HAS to be fixed!

If you want a neon pet, make a tamer or sammy and get a coloured cu or hiryu.

Next time, don't waste charges on silly dying experiments before finding out if the devs consider it legal.

Now, take a screenshot of your "happy accident" swampie and pin a printout of it next to your screen. Problem solved.

I'm waiting for "virtual colouring crayons" to come in the next expansion. Let players wreck their own screens but allow others to have a toggle for ugly vision on/off. Then we can turn it on to laugh at the latest neon blob and then turn it off when we want to play without blasting our retinas. Maybe then we can get some peace and quiet from the crayola crowd...

To the players who say the neon swampies give them headaches, MOVE your face away from the screen! If you stick your tongue out and can touch the screen your way too close, If that dosent work try turning the contrast down a little.

I like my Dryad green Swampie. I spent 2mil on 43 shots of Dryad green, sold 10 barding deeds for 200k each so it cost me nothing and i still have about 30 shots left. I like it but i wont cry if it reverts. I like to stand out and be a bit of a Eyesore... but thats just me.

Either way players didnt cause this revert...it wasnt intended therefore will be fixed! simple...if you want to be an eyesore just dye everything neon and there you go...sorted!

Make it as obnoxious as you like...go wild...but this was an unintended bug and will be fixed...end of!

You run the pointy finger of the floating guantlet over your pets lifebar and it lights up. I want my pet not to run through a rat maze when agroed on and then just press its face against a wall when called back. I want my pets ghost to stand over its corpse and not take off. Running any direction till it hits a shorline and then wont return becuase it is behind a bush it ran around going out.
Let the armor barding be. It breaks and be one less charge in the world for those other items plp hate to see dyed.

To the players who can't get enough neon, move you face so close to the screen that your nose leaves smear marks or ramp the contrast up.

Aboo, I think it's a new fad called "extreme dying". You don't know if the dye will stick, but you're gonna dye it anyway, because it's hardcore risk duuuuuuuude. Like ironing your socks on the top of Everest.

I'd suggest the risk takers try extreme insurance next week. You know the one where you run out of Yew gate yelling "I'm cancelling my auto renew now!"

That's the core of the issue right there. There are people playing this game that don't read stratics every day. Some don't read it at all. So, when this change came in, they thought it was intentional and some went out and spent a lot of money buying either the dyes or the dyed deeds for their swamps. Those people are the ones that suffer because of this current dev team's inability to either code, test or communicate in a way that ensures that things like this don't happen.

Yes, those that KNEW it was a bug and still did it should definitely lose out. But many many of those that have these deeds got them without knowing that it was going to be changed. It was no where on the official UO game site that this wasn't an intended change for many days while it was going on. That's the issue.

No one really expects them to code everything 100% correctly. Heck, considering the quality of this dev team most of us don't expect them to code even 50% of things correctly. Because of that, because they KNOW that they aren't very good at coding and testing, they should step up their communication in regards to changes like this BEFORE they go live. A note on the herald site or on the patch screen stating what SHOULD be able to be dyed using the dyes or the slimes BEFORE putting it out live would ensure that it really is only those mean old nasty 'exploiters' that are doing it instead of exploiters AND those that just didn't know that it wasn't intended.

  43. D'Amavir

    D'Amavir Guest

First, I don't believe that is true. I have spoken to a lot of people in the game on several shards that honestly thought that dyed deeds (both barding and house add-ons) were an intended change. Now, the dev team has come out and said that it wasn't intended. But, in the beginning, there was no such communication.

Secondly, another major issue is the inconsistency of EA's policy on things like this. Consider this,

    1. Its ok to use dyes and slimes to dye add on deeds even though slimes weren't initially intended to allow that. At least according to the official notice about the slimes.
    2. Its illegal to use dyes or slimes to dye barding deeds. Even though EA did not inform anyone on their official site that it was not intended.
    3. It is legal to exploit game coding to break apart arcane circles, pents and abs to create custom 'floor tiles' even though this was not initially intended.
    4. It is illegal to exploit game coding to acquire items or skills.

How is someone that doesn't read an unofficial game forum every day supposed to know what they can do and can't do in the game?

Sure, there are people that did assume that this change wasn't intended and still used the dyes and slimes to dye the barding deeds when it shouldn't have been able to happen. And there are people that then sold these deeds to players that didn't know that it wasn't supposed to happen.

I don't care what happens to those that KNEW this was a bug and exploited it anyway. But the ones that suffer, as always, are those that weren't aware. Those that relied on the actual game designers to inform them what could and couldn't be done. Those that don't read unofficial forums everyday.

Personally, I HATE all things neon in this game. It takes away from my ability to immerse myself in a medieval rp setting when I see it. I would be ok with all of the neon in the game to be phased out. And no, I wasn't one that either used the dyes or slimes on barding deeds, nor bought already dyed barding deeds. However, I think that the common player is once again getting you-know-what on just because the dev team isn't very good.

Of course, people on this unofficial forum will always jump up in cases like this and shout 'all exploiters should suffer and die!!!111oneoneone' and just totally ignore the fact that there are people in this game that just don't know every single line of code in the game, including those just released within new patches. I get that. I get that some people have that mentality. But, I think that in a game that struggles daily with a dwindling playerbase should do more to improve the experience of the common player instead of each and every patch (and the fixes those flawed patches invariably lead to) doing more and more to drive those players off.

I think this entire discussion is ********.

    Yea, I said ********.

"HEY MR DEVS I DON'T LIKE THE COLORS THEY WEAR OMG CHANGE THEM"

I'm so glad everyone here is all for people being able to decide what they wear themselves and that everyone is so caught up in looking down their nose at people who just want a little more damned variety.

If these people WANT to ride bright neon colors let them. Personally I like Evil Mage cloth (no, it's not nightmare cloth, or shadow dancer black, its ****ing evil mage cloth because you got it from evil mages end of discussion), but if some guy wants to ride a neon green dragon, wearing a blaze vet robe and a neon white helm and weapon let him. It makes him a target in fel. And if they want to sit in tram and bank sit, let em, leave the bank so you don't have to stare at them and PLAY THE GAME. This game has taken so much away from us players as far as character looks go that it's disgusting. When you see a dexer what are they wearing? Either glasses, a bear mask or a deer mask. Howabout a mage? Glasses, Wizard's hat or a Kasa.

I WANT MY HAT OF THE MAGI TO BE A TALL STRAW FRIGGIN HAT IS THAT SO BAD?

*Gives a thumbs down to the anti-customizable character stratics all neutrals crowd*

I don't know if people who did it knew beforehand or not that it wasn't intended for that use. And I personally don't like neon but that's a personal preference. I am just confused by someone saying that the people he knew that did it, did so knowing full well that EA would probably delete them and they did it anyway.

I think this is a sticky situation where there was nothing posted prior to it being done that they didn't intend for it to be used that way. Unlike when houses were placed in previous guard zones and people should have known then not to do it. I'm glad I'm not one that dyed my armor!

Then most everyone you knew was willing to flagrantly break the rules, knowing full well what the reaction would be.

For those who question why we can address this so quickly, and decry the supposed lack of attention to other areas of cheating: we can't talk about the people we action for cheating. It's not that things aren't happening; we just don't discuss it.

Keep reporting. If you honestly feel you're having a communication problem with the normal reporting system, send feedback directly to Joann.

You do realise that the players didnt contribute to this change right???

You do realise that it was just a patch bug similar to the housing in towns???

You do realise that like then the first opportunity they noticed they have implemented a change (remeber its been x-mas and new year hence the 2week delay).

  49. D'Amavir

    D'Amavir Guest

Flagrantly breaking rules that didn't exist? Or did I miss something on the official forum when this patch first came out saying that using slimes to dye barding deeds was illegal? I must have. Just like I missed the one saying that using slimes to dye house add on deeds was ok because its 'hidden at home and not out in the public eye'. Which is good to know since that opens up the legality of duping home deco rares as long as they are kept 'hidden at home'. Brilliant.

If I remember correctly, and I do because I just went and read it again, the initial notification about the slimes said "Researchers have discovered that these specially hued slimes can dye artifacts and magically enhanced items!". Hmmm, since it didn't say that 'colored barding deeds COULD be dyed' I guess you can use that as your justification for saying it was 'flagrantly breaking rules'. However, it also didn't say that 'colored wood add on deeds COULD be dyed' I would imagine that that would also mean those that did are 'flagrantly breaking rules'. But, it doesn't of course, does it?

Inconsistent +1, the EA Dev Team is now Legendary Inconsistent! Yay!

  50. D'Amavir

    D'Amavir Guest

To me, its not an issue of them implementing a change to make the dyes not work on barding deeds. (even though they are being inconsistent by not doing the same for other deeds) Its the fact that truly innocent players that spent gold buying these deeds are the one getting the fat you-know-what in the you-know-where from the dev team, as usual. The people that knew this wasn't supposed to happen and went ahead and made and sold deeds to those that didn't know (and since there wasn't any official word that is even WAS illegal that would mean that most didn't KNOW) are not losing out at all. They get to keep the gold from their sales while the buyers lose the gold AND the barding.

And, again, I didn't make any barding deeds for this, I didn't use any barding deeds for this and I didn't buy any barding deeds for this. I don't even own a swampie and never will. However, poor communication, poor coding and poor testing from this dev team once again damages the innocent player while once again allowing exploiters to prosper.
