T Hunters, clean up your mess

I set off to complete a level 6, I get close to the spot I need to be, and run into not one, but TWO AW's. After dispatching those two, I find a chest that had been dug and emptied but not removed. The next person can not dig the chest if the last t Hunter doesn't remove it.
Not quite right in my thinking, to dig a level 6 and leave two AW's wandering around. Clean up the spawn, and remove the chest.

    Just a thought,

The reason that the ancient wyrms are left around is because they have been boosted too much where they are simply not worth the insurance money to kill. I had posted earlier about toning the ancient wyrms down a little bit to keep them interesting but not impossible. At least lower their fire breath damage a little bit. They boosted the HP but didn't pay attention to the boost to the firebreath.

I've left 7 ancient wyrms on one of the islands from one chest before but I did clean out the chest and removed it...

Ah ok, its not me then. I took a battle to a AW the other day and it kicked my arse, badly. I have been away for awhile though.

I've felt since the change that the AW in the level 6 tmap should be replaced by a superdragon. It seems like what belongs there in the new lineup of the dragons.

how about suggesting a change ??

all spawn must be killed prior to being able to loot the chest.

Wow it is just plain rude to leave your problem(s) for the next Thunter or someone else to deal with. If you cant finish off the spawn properly may be you shouldnt be digging up the chest in the first place. If there isnt a rule against this there should be! Tsk tsk!

  8. Your assuming that the prior party "succesfully" got away ... evidence could also be used that they got the loot and boggled the retreat, and used "stuck option" to send their ghosts home >defeated< (thilly quitters)

Anyways, "the problem" is mainly the chest, yes? pretty sure theres a method Known to "remove" those left over discarded empties ...
something about ... hmmm ... ask around ...

I have come across those ancient wyrms many times unexpectedly but i know how difficult they can be and personally, i don't blame people for leaving them behind.

How many times have you seen a Treasure hunter clean up after their selves? I doubt real seriously you clean up after yourself. That is all part of this game so deal with it. :sword:

  11. Finch

    Finch Guest

Not only do I clean up after myself, but I ALWAYS remove or destroy the chest. Each and every time. They took the time to put all loot in a bag on the ground, yet couldn't take the time to remove the chest??
I have just recently gotten my t hunter out to do level 6 maps because frankly the loot just stinks, but I want to get the arti for the spring clean up. This is the first time I have run into spawn just being left for someone else to clean up. I did, it wasn't hard, a little time consuming, but certainly not hard.

What happens if they aren't empty? Can you still get rid of them? Or do you have to wait for the timer?

My guess is that there are many treasure hunters on all shards. The ideal place to post is the Treasure Hunter forum, oh but wait, there isn't one. It would be REALLY nice to get the old boards back, at least the profession forums again.

They are not that hard with the right template.
I can't imagine leaving 7 AW to the next unsuspecting T hunter that recalls in for a dig. That really is just not right.

I understand what you are saying but in this game now noone cleans up any more. I also am PO'D by this but these younger players don't care about being courteous any more.

Well I usually don't leave 7 wyrms, just however many that spawns... Before the boost, I'd kill them all. I have a legendary provoker but it now takes forever to provoke two wyrms as the barding difficulty went up as well with the hp boost. Before, a balron and wyrm are fairly evenly matched but now the wyrm just eats the balron easily.

I even tried to create a gimp pally archer to try to clean up the mess afterwards but it still nails me. It takes quite a while to kill a wyrm with a legendary mage with 185 mana so just isn't worth the time.

These days, when I recall from the rune library, I always wonder if I'm going to land in the middle of a leftover spawn. I don't know how the people that live on lev 6 chest location islands do it. guess they're lucky that wyrms can't breath/cast through walls anymore.

Ugh I will try in English this time. I would bet money that I am not the only one that has run into this problem, it is not shard specific. I also am 100% certain as of 5 minutes ago, there was not a forum for T hunters, which would be the IDEAL place to post this. More people read Uhall, than any other board, why not remind everyone that has dusted off their T hunter of the decent thing to do.

Just a suggestion, but, why not dig up level 6 tmaps with a group of people?

And, out of curiosity, did EA bother to up the reward for the upped risk, or did they just change half of the equation?

Nothing should be able to be removed from a chest while spawn created by the chest (either initial dig or later when moving items) is still alive. They also need to have the "snapback" code applied to them so people can't simply "drag and dump" the spawn.

  22. Been times I have had three AWs when the chest popped, did I leave them for another to clean up? Nope, I lure one off at a time and sic my greater on it and vetting like crazy till I killed that one, then back to get the 2nd, then the 3rd.

What I do is park my greater just a few paces off from the chest, order it to stay, then walk off about two screens, mark a rune, putting that rune in a fully charged rune book, return to the dig site and dig up the chest. When the guardians pop I wait till they are all targeting the Greater, then hit the charge for my location off screen from the chest. What happens after that is it a meery race for all of them to chase my pet.

By then he is fully vetted and waiting for the first one to run up to us, normally those titans get there first, follow by slayers and others. The AWs are slow and are always late for the party, but we eat then up one at a time.

As for small islands like Dot, I leave those maps alone for the days when I got LOTS of help.

Of course they didn't. The loot still stinks as before. By loot I mean both the chest and the wyrm.

  25. Ya it sucks when you go thru all that to get a wooded steed as your arty. Used to toss them and the mace on the ground and drop the chest as I was so mad for all that work to get something like this. Others I can sell, and till spring clean up toss the junkee ones away.

Maybe they lost connection. Sounds like it.

Myself, I'm a 4x120 Bard with GM Carto/Lockpick and 105 Magery. I've no room for mana regen but I'm gradually building a suit to handle that (I wear a costume that I refuse to trash for better mods).

Thus far I haven't had much luck in killing AW's unless I get a pair spawn. I always lure off a solo AW, finish/destroy the chest, and hope to spawn an second AW while looting. Otherwise, it's a good 15-20 minutes killing a lone AW with Discord and summons.

Prior to the AW change I had no problems, but I'm not about to twink my character into a tamer or other template; from the character's standpoint it makes no sense to join the profession-of-the-month club. IRL it would be like a top bill musician deciding one day that he's going to be a lion tamer.

How a wooden horse fits in a green backpack inside a chest, I have no idea ;)

Yes, you can remove the chest even if there is still stuff in it. When you go to remove, it will warn you that there is still things in the chest and ask if you are sure you wish to remove the chest.

I did this on a chest I just unlocked and only was able to remove 2 items. That's about the time a few "unsocial" types came by.

PS. You can also remove a chest you dug up even when your a ghost. :gee:

Hahahha funny I used to do t-maps but always brought help for the higher lvls 5 or more but back then UO was a MMO.

I should have been clearer in my question, can you remove the chest if someone else dug it and there is still stuff in the chest? I was able to remove the chest someone else had dug, but am thinking I only could because it was empty. What a way to grief someone if a person can remove a full chest without being the one that dug it up.

QFT. My T-hunter never leaves a chest, spawn, or items. It's too easy to simply open up the first corpse created. Start dumping your items you don't want inside the corpse. It will decay before you're even finished with the chest. It's not hard to clean up after ones self, the ones that leave they're junk lying around are just asses....

I agree about leaving the chest since that simply messes with the people who come later, but sometimes the spawn is problematic. The new Ancient Wyrms are a lot harder. A group of friends helped me do a map the other day, and it had a few deaths for very little actual loot. They should have better loot on them for the difficulty.

People leaving the spawn is a problem. However, unless something has been changed recently, you can remove someone else's empty chest by double clicking your shovel, target the empty chest. If the chest still has items in it, and you are absolutely determined to dig that spot before the timer decays the chest, page a GM. They will removed abandoned chests (but not the spawn). I usually just go dig another map or 2, and when I come back the chest will have decayed.

And, for the first time in almost 8 years of t-hunting, I recently left an Ancient Wyrm. I am used to soloing level 6's, and got a bit of a surprise when an AW handed me my head 5 times. I got the chest emptied, and all the other spawn handled, but simply ran out of play time, and left the AW.

Just a reminder to members of THB (which is a cross-shard guild).

Leaving behind spawn is NOT an option, by the rules of the THB charter. You get caught leaving behind spawn, you will be kicked from THB by your shard's guildmaster.

and for those not in THB, come on - how hard is it for you to switch characters after you get what you want from the chest, and have the other character kill off the spawn? Or call in friends to help???

I am sure it is a pain to recall into previous T-hunter "Stuff."

Umm... Get over it. Just kill those mobs and go on about digging your chest. You are Adventurers, Treasure Hunters on top of that! You should be ready for danger!

Go in with the expectation that something will be there and you are good to go.

    You're Welcome...

  38. Ahhhh, "a solution" for left behinds, was hoping one existed still (data I found was rather dated, and memory just wouldn't do ... in this instance)
Whack an empty with the shovel, wait for the timer, page a GM on partials (might be faster to JUST move on ... unless partials are Known to be "permanent")

    *dusts hands*

    *goes sideways*
Oy! Sara ? any update on your Guild Alliance problem ? ... Please to share any positive outcome since your email on the 18th (no need for the negitive ... just means not yet, pending, continue to await ... already "there" eh?)

Basara! just won a recruit (if I ever make another Thunter)

I always clean all my spawn and drop my chest when done. I do agree with others in you should not be able to loot the chest if the spwan is alive. If you cannot handle the spawn mabey you do not need to be digging a L6 map. I haven 't run into any leftovers in a long time but it is anoying to recall in and be suprised by an AW or two.

How recently has it been since the AWs were beefed up? I haven't done a t chest in a few months and was wondering if my cu could still take one. BTW I used to kill all the spawn and remove the chest. It takes a few extra minutes, no big deal to do it imo.

  42. At the birth of the Supers was when the AW got back in the Gym. We waited a week to bond our supers before doing the chests after getting our butts handed to us using 2 WW and 2 mares combo on one AW.

The problem with not allowing anything to be looted if there is a single spawn from the chest still out is that many bards actually loot until they get two monsters to prov on each other. This would cut out a viable and valid form of T-maping.

Actually, you can dig the chest even with one there. It comes up underneat the other one, so looting it can be a pain, but using object handles will help with this. I can't really blame anyone for not cleaing up their mess given the stupidity of adding uber ancient wyrms to chests. Most templates can't actually handle the ancient wyrms which leaves tamer t-hunters as the only real template that has a chance against them.

Not really like society at all. Its more like the sensationalized news broadcast of society. Once in a while, they run the true stories. Community service and volunteer work has actually excelled over the last decade. Many younger people desire to give back to the community they grew up in. MMORPGs are just an outlet where people normally act which ever way they chose without repricusion. In UO, that seems to be to act like a jerk because everyone knows that they will most likely get away with it.

They always only change half of the equation. Lich lords are now 2x as hard to kill as blood elementals. Blood elementals give better loot (junk but better), more fame, more gold, and a level 5 map as compared to a level 4 map. Thats EA for you.

Lure methods with a greater work very well. If your greater has decent resists and is fully trained they normally eat ancient wyrms without even neeing that much vet.

For being the "profession of the month" tamers certainly have a long history. I mean, hell, they have only been the "profession of the month" for 10 years. Bards are the true "profession of the month", and that took a long time to happen.
