With the new t maps and the changes to all over the world I'd love to see a few tweeks to the system.
First is the locations. Some of us are still having trouble locating the spots, would it really be that hard to get cords on them?
Second is again on the location but in the aspect of travel. Malas is fine but the Ilsh maps you cant recall in once a spot is found or open gates to it. Yes the new bracelet will come in super handy for this but I think Ilsh is long over due to allow marking runes to that area.
Third is the resetting of maps once read but not dug up. While I liked the idea it didnt go as far as I had hoped. Perhaps making them also change facit might be a nice addition for those who wont do places like Ilsh. or any of the other facits for that matter.

With time and oblagations outside uo limiting time for friends and family to play a few small changes might bring back a serge to the t map hunting that has died off. The cordinates will help those of us with bad eye sight find the sopt with out the fustration which is killing off a once loved hobby.

I think the new t spots are all completely random now. I started marking books of new sites right after the changes and after at least 100 new marks i never dug up the same spot twice. This includes the full library of tmap sites that were marked before the changes.

thats over 300 marked runes with zero spots dug 2x

It is random. And I doubt they will change it back to specific locations any time soon.

Random is good, the old system was crazy: what kind of treasure chest is the one everyone knows where it is.

I think they could make cartography a bit more useful than just required to decode the map.

For example they could make it so that when you use it on a decoded t-map it will produce an indication of the distance and direction you have to travel to reach the hot spot. Or something like that.

  5. I regularly treasurehunt... in fact, it's my main source of income in the game. I DO wish they'd stop that silly business of rotating the map 45 degrees for a Treasure Map and make it the same orientation as your regular map, but oh well. Gotta have some challenge, I suppose.

    Here's my tips.

1 - Remember that you need to find the point where the PIN penetrates the map, NOT the red pin head. Always look to the lower left of the pin head.

2 - Letting the hellcat out of the bag, my secret to prosperity is just this: I farm the Dark Guardians room regularly, because they drop Expert and Adeptly Maps, ALWAYS in Malas. I have a system of 30 recall spots marked in Malas, and I simply teleport to the location closest, and find the treasure.

3 - If the map is in the Umbra Swamp or the Crystal Fens, I throw it away. The spawn there makes it a headache.

4 - Put everything in perspective. Yes, my Thunter could take down up to a Deviously chest, after a lot of fighting and possibly some deaths. But in that time, I could do 3 or 4 Expertly with absolutely no risk and make double the money and comparable items.

5 - Expertly Drawn are awesome. Because their guardians are weak enough to be taken out by one EV while you invis, and they have a chance for a Scroll of Alacrity. Those SoA's are the major secret to my prosperity.... the gold is nice but finding a SoA I can sell for hundreds of K is worth much more. Imbuing ingredients are also lucrative.

6 - Adeptly and Cleverly are hard on Malas simply because of Ogre Lords. The other monsters are pushovers but even with an imbued Ogre Slayer, those lummoxes hit HARD. Double up EVs and be patient.

7 - Again, the map is not the same orientation. Locate three points on the map (clumps of trees and mountain jags are great) and triangulate the point.

8 - Have 100 Mining!!! That extra space or two makes ALL the difference.

9 - My loot list is as follows: 1.) SoA (if there is one) 2.) Gold 3.) Imbuing ingredients. 4.) Gems 5.) Reagents 6.) Gems. 7.) 100% magic weapons. Even with the latest upgrade, almost always the magic items are garbage at all levels, so don't spend too much time looking them over.

10 - If the battle is over your treasurehunter's head, recall home and get your PvM Main. The monsters will stay there for a while. But don't leave them wandering the land, it's not cool for someone to run into a Wyrm when hes out lumberjacking.

The system is fine as it is. Its good that a system makes you work a little bit.

And I've never had a problem finding the spot. Even in CC its straightforward and in the EC (with Pinco's UI) its even easier.

Sure I have mining, but I don't mind that. I use mining on the side anyway!

I like the fact that you can't recall into Ilshenar.

The one thing I would change in regards to that sort of thing, would be the ability to recall out of The Lost Lands in Felucca. Not in. Out.

T-map system is fine as is.

Maybe add some of the new loot to the chests.

Re: T map change is it possible?

MY suggestions would be the following:

    1. GET RID OF THE MINING REQUIREMENT. Replace it with a Cartography based system, where the distance you can dig from is 10-(map level) steps. To me, the randomization combined with the mining was a 1-2 "Go **** yourself" sucker punch from the devs, to those of us who were refusing to use soulstones to swap out skills. Hell, when I mentioned that back on 8/28/10 at the Fairfax HS announcement, it appeared the devs and programmers I talked to DID NOT KNOW that people were using the swap method at all (much like how Cal didn't know what a "Sampire" was, and how so many of the changes being made to combat to try to improve PvP were marginalizing non-sampire PvM templates, especially human ones)

    2. Make finding the general location easier. Reverse engineer the turkey map code, and apply it to T-maps, especially lower level ones. Even with 100 mining, it often takes me 10 minutes, or more, to find a place to dig, and the spots on MY CC map don't look anywhere near the pin (either end, or the center), often as much as a screen width off in one of the cardinal directions (and never the same direction 2 maps in a row, when I do 2 level 6s in a row).

    3. Get rid of the Soulstone method (but only if you get rid of the mining crap first). For the first 8 years or so of UO, it was in the bylaws of the Treasure Hunters of Britannia that you HAD to have Cart & LP on the same character to be a member of the guild. Soulstones and template-gimping made it to where anyone with room for 100 free points could be a fake T-hunter, but it wasn't really practical until the 24-hour cooldown was removed off the stone.
The addition of Mining was done with the MISTAKEN IMPRESSION that people were still running around with both Cart & LP, and that the Risk vs. Reward needed upped on both sides, with skill investment being part of the "Risk" side (As it was intended to lower the combat strength of the T-Hunter).
In reality, it had NO EFFECT on the soulstoners - who now had to swap between 3 skills, leaving the other 620+equipment bonuses skill points UNCHANGED. All it did was further cripple those who didn't use the stones, forcing them out, or making the soulstone gimp method Mandatory if you're going to do more than the lowest maps, and be the one actually fighting the spawn (which SUCKS the life out of the RP aspect, not to mention the social aspects).
The net effect is that if someone asks you to decode some maps for them, you have to GO GET YOUR SOULSTONES to do it
    A. Take LP off, get Cart back on (HOPING you don't hit the wrong button and WIPE or overwrite a skill),
    B. Decode,
    C. Put one of the other skills back on for the dig - by which time most people will say - "forget it, this is taking too long"
    D. Depending on whether you keep 2 skills or just one on your character (the changes forced me to swap Cart & LP, keeping mining on full time, so this step doesn't apply to me), there might be ANOTHER break between the guardians and the chest opening so that the poser-TH (that only invests 100 points at a time) can stone off mining, and put on LP - repeated EVERY new dig! (even more opportunity for game-session-ending soulstone mishaps)
    E. THEN, if you get more maps in the course of the dig (almost certain at level 5-6), you no longer can decode them in the field, because your Cart is sitting at home or in your bank soulstoned. This causes even MORE disruption of the social and RP aspects. Before, when most T-hunters had both Cart & LP on full time, we could decode on the fly, and just head off to the newly acquired map(s) location(s) to dig - now that's almost impossible with the templates forced by the mining addition.

Note that the addition of mining screwed over SP/Mugen T-hunters several magnitudes more severely than those on other shards, because of the templates there being unable to use Telekinesis, and many of them up to that point still ran DH/Remove Trap based templates as a result. Now, the result is either just be an enabler for others, just trigger the trap and hope you don't die (not as easy a proposition where there's no insurance, and therefore likelihood that a suit will be deficient for surviving the explosion - let alone having an opportunist dropping you while you're at a tiny fraction of your HP), or be like a guy trying to date two girls in different parts of the same restaurant at the same time, switching clothes between tables (what was that show I saw that in?). You know it will end poorly (and skills will be lost) eventually.

That Tilt-map thing is the only thing I don't like about the new system.

And I don't use soulstones.. Fact is I bought one cause one of my sons was like "Dad you have to have one and this one is really cheap" .

    I've never used it.

I dont think anyone understood what am requesting......

I use to love Thunting, the chinkle of the lock to the poping of the chest.... that was till the new change..
While I like much of it I have a small problem that makes my once loved hobby a pain in the head. I use to solo lvl 6's.
I'm 14 year Thunter/LP/Miner all been gm for 13 1/2years on all facits of Thunting and fishing.

My big problem is not the facing of the map, I can fix that on my own... my big trouble is now that I have had a stroke my EYES are bad at seeing the small pixels up close. I have had to use a 35x magnifiyer to see the maps pinpoint. And I still hunt around like a mad hen pecking at the ground. Its so fustrating!!! I find I am not alone in this problem. If they made the maps enlarging a bit bigger then 1 inch on screen this might help an add in a magnifyer this too might not be too big a deal for many.
If this is not possible perhaps.... put the x/ys on the map.
    Like the sos....
I dont want them to set the spots but to give a x/y cord set ON the map to help guide me to it.

As for the fixing of recalling into Ish...... Look guys many dont have the time as I to go fish around for the spot then walk Greater Dragons who get side tracked over every tom, **** or harry monster they see and wrangle them in to get to the location. In the time limit their significant other has alloewed them to play. Or work for that matter, lunch is for some only 30 min long. (yes some friends do play at work and I do admonish them for it but its their job at stake and I am not their mother...or boss)

To recall in areas allotted would be fine... I know there are champs areas but as I said select areas can be made recallable. We are talking a Trammel rule set people not Felluccian so recalling in should be a moot point. Outside Atlantic there are few shards who have so active a population that warrents total isolation of ish. And quite frankly outside a few players at the swoops its long hours till I see any other player in 90 % of ish to begin with. The opening up of recalling in might utilize the place more.

I am not sure if any of you remember when the Ants opened up, well on Oceania we could recall in and out, players used the place regularly. When the Dev put in the no recall in bit the place went dead. Outside needing a bug/sending bag/ball once in a while not many go in there. I'd like to see both open to recalls. heck save some $$ in development time and use a resource that already exsists.

I'm about 99% sure that pet summoning balls and the currently available bracelets of binding don't work in areas where you can't mark runes. Therefore, I doubt that the new bracelets that let you link up to 10 people will work for bringing multiple characters to those areas either.

For me, part of the charm of Ilshenar is that you have to walk in (and on Siege, walk out as well). To me, the fact that you can't just easily recall in and quickly grab whatever it was you came there to find just reinforces that it's a different place with its own history and that maybe, just maybe, we shouldn't treat it as casually as we treat the facets where we place our homes. Who knows when the true inhabitants of Ilshenar might return? I shudder to think how they would react if they returned and stumbled at every turn over "recall miners" and "recall lumberjacks," running on scripts and daily stripping their lands bare of resources.

Every time I see this thread I except it to be about Mao Zedong if he was born today, went to America, and began voice modulation in the studio ala T-Pain.

Anyway, like Basara said, Turkey-code. It would be a nice change for this Thanksgiving.

Changes to T-maps, I would like to see. Coords, might not be possible as these locations are completely random SoS' and the way Old maps worked were not random at all, a "Zoom-in/out" feature could be useful, or maybe a way to mark the "map marker" on your in-game radar-map.

lvl 1-4 should have a list of their own minor artifacts, like mana phasing
    orbs and such

lvl 5-6 should have an upgraded version of the lower level minor artifacts.

lvl 7 maps should have the new loot items/properties as the shame revamp.
add in slayer properties Able to spawn on mana phasing orbs, and
maybe some other specific artifacts/items that can Only be obtained
    from lvl 7 maps.

The only reason i would oppose the new loot be added to ALL maps, is the
fact it might draw people away from the newly revamped dungeons. atleast
    those with a T-hunter anyway.
level 7 maps, only spawn on Bosses and lvl 6 T-chests , they
    are not too common.

Mining is Not required for T-hunting, it only allows you dig up a chest up to 5 tiles further than if you didn't have Mining skill.

Mining IS required if you don't want to spend a hour digging around barely missing the spot, without you need to dig on the exact tile which from how the pin is set is extremely hard to tell (generally need to screenshot the map, blow it up, and open UOAM to find the exact location, and my eyes are fine!) Part of the issue is the newly randomized maps half the time end up in huge open green fields of grass with absolutely no landmarks on the map to help judge the spot, if the pin were replaced with a little "x" on the spot it was actually in that would make it a lot better. (and part of me though still misses the old maps, i liked their style...the new ones just looks like screenshots of the minimap)

There is no reason they could not do these like SoSs where they show you the Cords. SoSs have always been this way from day one. Also SoSs have always been random locations from day one. Make it when you decode a map it checks your Cart and if your skill is high enough, above what is required to decode, it will also show you the Cords. Make Cart worth taking to the MAX and stop requiring people to use Soulstones for thier T-Hunters.

No, they understand. Many just don't agree.

This game is not just about you.

Personally, I like the extra challenge t map hunting holds regarding the changes from a year and a half ago or whenever it was. Many do not want their hand to be held as the play the game.

As far as convenience and having the time to do them, you personally play fifty-some accounts. I have no doubt you are able to find a few scant minutes in your life to treasure hunt. It's treasure hunting, not treasure hand holding.

Thinking of that... when you dig 'in the area' around SoSs, you can get stuff. Why not spawn something (item, mob, etc) when doing the same with a map?

I would like to see rune libraries come back into play from a designers perspective that is implemented into the game, which includes a map that can be put on the wall and runes. It doesn't have to be to the exact spot. The map could be broken up and you could specialize or collect all the different maps.

So, once you've broken down the areas you could get closer to the areas. The map that hangs on the wall should be identical to the map you can find. So, if the smaller maps are broken off of a larger map, then this would be an exact piece of that map.

So, now you have a way to visually see where that map is, even if the map was considered to be a carteography only, meaning the map would be distorted at low levels and at higher levels, exact.

Then, there's the issue of once you're near the area, not being able to pin point it. So, some type of indicator should appear when one walks onto the exact spot. The map could glow, there could be a sound when you try to dig within a certain amount of tiles. There could be a spawn depending on the level.

Different levels could be set using the carteography skill, where you could click, if you wanted to view the maps as Expert Level or Squire, so that these indicators could be turned off. You could even remove the pin and show a larger region for those who feel a challenge is necessary.

Recalling is a different issue. There should be a cool down on spells and spells should be controlled and use energy as long as you're using something. You should not be able to recall 100 times within 10 minutes. There should be a recall, 1 an hour, 1 there and 1 back and there should be a way to concentrate to bring that recall back sooner.

And Soul Stones and Skills should not affect your character on a daily basis. They should be for testing and changing characters. It shows that skills themselves have never been designed properly to create the templates that are necessary.

If the Mining Skill did more or if you were able to build skills over the cap of 720, we would not have these problems. For example: A set of skills that would be considered basic skills, where you could choose mining, cooking, camping, so we'll say 3 survival skills, 1 gather and then the 720 cap for fighting skills or learned skills, like, taming, swords, anatomy, tactics.

I think this is why you constantly see these things come up because you have all these different problems that are connected to each other. It doesn't make sense to do a T-Map and be just about standing on it and not be able to find it. It seems to overlap that small area of having fun doing something and realizing there are other things you could be doing. So, I would suggest making the search more fun or making it easier.

So, of course, it's going to take more work if you want a better quality game.

There is another thing I can quite comprehend... WHY is that in Ter Mur you don't get Ter Mur based mini arti's from the level 6 maps????? This makes ZERO sense to me.....

In Malas perhaps I can get some ML based Mini Arties.... from lvl 6 maps....

In Tokuno don't you think I should be getting the Tokuno mini arties?????

Just makes more sense to me. Maybe it's just me.

But that's kinda how I feel.

This would be nice. If your T-hunter is Human, the 20 mining from the
JoaT - racial will allow you to dig 2 tiles from the Exact location, i've never had a problem with the new way T-maps are. and never had any "Real" Mining kill used with it...

The EC made treasure hunting easier.. being able to zoom in and out on the maps is great..

And I love the "X"'s instead of that silly pin.
