Now I have been doing Cartography and Tmaps from practcaly day one on UO. Got gm locks in 97 first on my shard back then it was a big deal. I worked my fingers off to get it.
Now as a seasoned gm i fail like kindergardner! Dont like it at all.... % is bad on fails

But that is not my main complaint .... I am having trouble finding the bloody map locations..
Now your talking of a t hunter with over 14 years exp in t maps and how far to be away form chest...... the map has a pin but the chest is nto under pin its somewhere to the right (or is it left) who cares ! I was all for randomization of locations even though you ruined my map libary to do it. But now it takes my old eyes longer to get the bloody place! 1 hour serching for a handfull of maps spots is a joke!

Would it hurt to put cord's on them?? I'd still have to find it ...

I hear ya. That and/or orient the maps the same direction as the compass in the 2d client. One is N up and the other is N at 45 degrees. Whomever thunk that one up was drunk!

  3. This has been discussed many times already on the thunter subforum.

Dev don't read much except this forum, or so I heard. Complaints go Here.

I experienced the same as the OP, but frustrated to the point where I completely flushed that skill, plus a couple others - never to go back, now that toon is just a fancy Soulstone, how thrilling.

And since 120 is the new GM, and there's not a 120 lockpick scroll, oh well...

I recently made a thunter for the first time and have been playing off and on for about 10 years. I enjoy playing my thunter but I'd definitely be all for putting coordinates on the map. It can be pretty irritating at times when you just can not seem to find the right spot to dig and I have gm mining on my thunter.

I was gonna say that GM mining and the UOCartographer program helps a whole lot.

Sis just zooms UOCarto in and then works out from the spot where its supposted to be.

If you have GM Mining on your t-hunter it looks in a five tile radius in all direction from spot where you dig.

However after watching my sister run her T-hunter; I'm inclined to agree that they 'd been doing tequila shots when they decided to do the treasure location radomization. :shots:

Sis also made another discovery that the tram locations seem to correspond to the old locations in UOAM.

Oh Petra, I have tried many ways to get it and sugar I get so fustrated it makes my head hurt and thats not good for me, Dr said no stress that makes me have pain in the head!

I dont feel like dying cause of a silly t map. UO is my stress releif not the cause!

I have on my t hunter gm mining so I get the max steps away, I use not only uocart but uoam, and son got me this magnifyer thingy and still I am hunting an pecking the ground like a fool....
Just the cords is all I ask ....... the randomization is fine.

I use UOCart, a magnifier, and about 50 mining. Sometimes I can find them quick if the landmarks are good. Other times I never find them.

And although hunting around a bit is fun in the beginning, on your fiftieth map, not so much.

I'd favor coords on the map, it they were not exact. Close enough that a GM miner can hit it every time, but others with lesser skill may have to dig around a bit. This gives everyone a choice on their template; fast and sure with few fighting skills, or slower with better skills for the chest.

A lot of the treasure hunters that I met, before the randomization of treasure chests' locations, just had a library of all possible spawns and recalled to those spots depending on what Treasure Map they had decoded. They recalled right on the chest spawning point. No mining necessary.

Personally, I much prefer it now, with the randomized locations. At least, the "hunting" part is back now.......

What magnifier are you talking about ?

Is it an Enhanced Client or Classic Client tool ?

    Hmmm.....

How about, introduce Powerscrolls for Carrtography, of course as rare drops in level 7 Treasure Chests, and only a Legendary Cartographer, given the exceptional skill, can read also the coordinates on a Map ?

    Use item
    Target
    Target Relative

Move according to you mining skill, repeat macro

Doesnt take me more than 30 seconds to find a chest. Reset your target to the next map and move on...

I love this kind of statement. Well, if you don't have a problem, then clearly it's fine for everyone right?

Clearly, if I can do it without pitching a fit while minding a precocious 3yr old - assisting the wife with the newborn and keeping the house in order , I don't see why others with less distractions cannot.

People just want to keep their precious templates, recall to X every time and dig.

My only complaint about tmaps is the line of sight issues while emptying.

I tend to spend alot of time searching, also. The last time we went, everyone started getting upset, asking what are we doing? what's taking so long.

At 2 of the maps, my son came down and he asked if he could see and we were looking at the map and he was like, it's over here. So, I went over and we found it after about 20 tries. So, it was probably a total of 300 tries.

So, I look at the map and I look at different structures, lines in the map, water points and i'm able to put my dot exactly where it is on the treasure map but when you dig, there's no treasure.

It would be neat if you could give everyone a copy of the map. For example: Say you're in the party, you could have the map open on each screen, just something to get everyone involved.

Also, a map that you could drop other maps on and then the locations would be saved and then this larger map would have alot of pins and then you could compare your treasure map to that map and then choose a rune that would mark that pin location. So, you could at least recall in close and have some type of rune library and a map as tools to help you find your treasure map.

I just went through all this myself and Petra's method does help me a lot but having to use a method that takes you outside of the game can be problematic in some situations. I do not have a problem with the locations being random and I am willing to do some work to find the location or even to figure out the coordinates but PLEASE give us something to work with IN the game.

I also have an issue with needing mining to dig a hole..my treasure hunting is not mining. She is using a map to find a location (well in theory at least *grins*) and digging a hole. I know that mining has always been a part of treasure hunting but it just doesn't make sense to me!

Another complaint other than the 2 hour hunts to find the exact spot.. with gm mining nad gm cart... is it seems more often than not now.. THEY ARE UNDER HOUSES. I have sitting in my bag right now 4 tmaps where the treasure is under someones house and cant dig it up.

I am finding that too t maps when you do get there to the spot its under a home.

Popps gotta love ya or id kill you.... Hun I had a stroke and eye sight is not great even with my glasses and a magnifyer you simply cant find some of the maps period.
magnifyer i have 2.. they from my stamp collecting days. but to use my nose is on the screen most times....
You need to use external programs to do a t hunt then you are doing too much to play a game. When it takes you 2 hours to find the damn treasure, your friends are long gone....
time IS a factor here. not everyone lives with in same time zone. 2hrs for a map run is out of the question for many.
As I stated I am a t hunter from 97, we did all the hunting an pecking or should I say I did all the hunting an pecking...i was loaned to every guild to do maps!!! no rune libary just a rune to general area but my map gave me all the info I needed. I now need that info back is all I want. Or put in place a hot / cold system hehe mine here - your getting warm mine here - much cooler.......

BTW got a bunch of mib's that are for under new fire island land now.... thought dev was to fix that?

Fish the mibs in Fel. They can be fished in either facet and there's no volcano in Fel.

You mean like the maps for the turkey nest? You'd get messages saying that you are close to the location, and that was very helpful. I heard that that system code is lost to UO, but it would be nice if someone could re-create it. It would still allow for the hunt part to be in, but eliminate a lot of the frustration.

On another note, I am doing great finding maps w/o minining on the first try most times. However, this should not mean that anyone can do the same. I can see some things better than others, and I am blind as a bat when it comes to other things. :)

me too, I spent many WEEKS putting together my library, all turned into trash, so trashing it came next, then skill deletion. That was the first time a little bit of UO died for me, Things/items don't have the same meaning for me any more - why bother investing time and energy into something if a Dev may just come along and kill it? I took it personally, and I won't forgive the someone for doing that who doesn't even play, or plays little.

I'd been treasure hunting since 2003, and even with GM mining and UOCart, trying to use every suggested method, about every 3rd map takes a half-hour to find these days. And, that's with my backup; my primary - the GUILDMASTER of the shard's THB - is completely incapable of finding maps, as he has no room for mining, and my characters follow the old THB rule that the character MUST have both Carto and LP to be a member, even if everyone else is soulstoning.

The change to Maps' location was just poorly conceived nostalgia for the old days, before Goodman and the Stratics staff located all 200 locations. The primary motive for the move was stated to make mining play a part again - when no one wanted it except for the devs, by their own admission. All the change did was add one more skill to soulstone back and forth, further diluting the profession, NOT strengthening as was the intent.

What would have worked better would have used Cartography as a modifier for purposes of finding the location, then had the mining bonus actually apply to the dig - or to have the Turkey map location system apply to map locate, then let the mining modifier just be a bonus. In both cases, the requirement of the Cartography skill being present at the time of the hunt would have been added.

I was surprised to find at the HS announcement meeting (that I attended in person) that some people who had worked on the T-map revision DIDN'T EVEN KNOW OF the Turkey map event of the year before, or that it was meant as a prototype for map location revision (but the reminders from several of us probably played a part in it being turned back on this year).

Kinda makes me wonder if they can track what skills are used, and how often. I know I rarely used my THunter, but the loot was crap - I'd rather be fishing chests, least there was a chance at something good. If the 'spreadsheet' shows whether a skill needs love, or not, wonder what it shows now that a few have dropped it? What scares me is what will be next?

MIB's have what, a 20 tile pulling radius? That's not fair to me, maybe they should 'fix' fishing to match?

But, what can they do now, wouldn't returning the co-ords to maps, or increasing the dig radius, make them admit they made a big mistake? That's Not gonna happen

Hahaha.. funny guy! You really believe that this game at this stage gets that level of attention? My guess is that its down to putting out fires and working on new revenue additions and that is it. That kind of development work seems unlikely given the task load on this very limited team.

The turkey map "finder method" would help Id still like the cords on the map...

Though I am wondering... when I do get a chest up and its empty I hit control shift to make sure I didnt drop anything I see a Second chest under the dirt.... if its random why the second chest there??

I like the t hunter as it is now the random map spots are great! if i spend some time doing maps i can usually do 10 with ease and have one map thats a pain to find the exact spot. But then i do use 100 mineing so that helps alot! if you are haveing problems with the new system well to bad for you adapt! try hunting a t map in ec wow is it easy to find with the map or dl uo cartographer and use that i hear great things from friends who use it!

I also have very little trouble finding maps. But, others do have problems, and I had problems at the beginning of the randomization. You say you have mining and use uo catographer? Good for you! The point being made here is that you shouldn't have to resort to something outside of UO to perform a function in this game, nor should you have to use an additional skill. I don't have mining on my main t-hunter, and I don't use uo cartographer, but it would be foolish of me to assume that others can do as well as I because my eyesight is better. :talktothehand:

It's kinda like those Hidden Object Games (HOGs). some people are just not very good at those, for a variety of reasons, vision being just one.

    Side Comment:
As far as an additional skill required, I've NEVER been a fan of that, just seems redundant and non-realistic. A bonus to a skill is what GM-120 should give. If you need 200pts to make a skill effective, something's wrong. Ex. Anat w/ weapons, all but the undead know where a heart, head, arm, leg or jugular is.

Well I should clear up a misconseption on Tmaps and the hunting for some.... Tmaps were a group event back in the beginning because it was a way to create community. It was great fun and full of surprises.
That was then ........this is now.... Tmaps have become for most(not all) a gold and item gaining quest that they fully do NOT want to share. Some solo the maps to as high as they can handle... There are even more who have a family member or best friend help.

In 97, I was one of a handfull of Thunters with gm locks and a sought after lady to do guild hunts, on shards who still have active guilds it might still be this way. For the most part Tmaps need the co-ords put on them. Eyesight is one main reason, secondly time, when a map takes 2 hours and you have only 1 hour to play your out of luck to get it done or you run over the set time ...for many this cant happen. Real life comes first and the dev over everyone else should apreciate this fact. Your free time should be stress free not bent over a screen squinting through a magnifyer trying to count pixels to get a silly map!
