The only thing to remember is that, to be on the safe side, less than 110 tame 115 lore and 100 vet is a bad idea. You risk loosing control of your pet (tame/lore) and you wont be able to res heal/rez it efficiently when needed (vet).
And if you plan on taming a lot of pets 120 in the 3 skills is a must for easy taming and stable slots.

keeping that in mind, there are many possibilities, remember that none of the skill levels have to be real ones, you can always go beyond the 710 cap using additional skill points in jewels or such.

You can build a classic disco/tamer
120 in all the skills you already have + 100 magery
You wont be able to do any damage with magery as you wont have eval int
but you can heal yourself and your pet, invis, recall, gate, paralyse ....
And you could add 20 or even better 25 chivalry to be able to cast remove curse (I love it !)

Obviously you have manged quite well without magery, so if you feel like going on without, you could add peacemaking 120, it helps a great deal to tame, can save your life in a fight or help your pet if he's targeted by multiple opponents (you peace the extra ones so you pet is only fighting one at time).
If you want magery and have a soulstone you can switch between peace and disco as needed. Usually peace to tame and disco to hunt.

Always without magery, you could use spellweaving, a lot of spells are useful for your pet as well and you can fight too. No additional skill needed for damage.

Those are the most usual templates with barding skills, maybe others will have more original ideas ;)

Vet at 106 is pretty much useless, you get your extra stable slot at 100 so drop Vet to 100. Put the extra 5 pts in Taming to bring it to 110. Then get yourself a Birds of Britannia +5 Taming/Lore talisman. That will bring you to 115 Taming and 110 Lore, which is more than enough to tame and control most things. Plus you'll get 2 additional stable slots for having Lore/Taming at or above 110.

I have no idea when it comes to music. But moving those pts off Vet to taming and obtaining that one item will help you a lot.

    looks alot like a disco-tamer :)
You should add Magery/medi and lower vet to 70. that way you are able todo better at "harder" stuff.
    Fx.

    120 disco
    120 music
    100 tame
    100 lore
    100 Magery
    100 medi
    070 Vet
    =========
    710 total

Get a friend to imbue you a nice ring with +10 taming, +10 lore, 20 Lrc, +3 fcr. And use an orny...and you are ready to kill anything (more or less)

Get the same friend to imbue you a set of juwels with vet on, 2x13 so u can res also.

    I'd recommend the following:

    120 Music
    120 Disco
    115 Lore
    110 Taming
110 Mage (95 real + Tome of Lost Knowledge)
    100 Vet
    50 Med

I think you'd be real happy with that toon, as far as fighting goes. If you're wanting to also do a lot of taming, throw on some skill jewels to bring yourself to 120 taming. Good luck. :D

Thank you all so very much for the great feedback ! You have given me a lot to think about. Currently just plugging along at raising skill and occasionally a little old fashioned elder gazer camping in shame to earn a little cash. Real taming is slow of course, currently 93.6 and struggling to find an animal for steady gains. With jewelery I am at my max taming and lore (110 each) and constantly scouring mostly empty vendors for a reasonably priced 120 taming scroll.

    Thanks again !!!

Hrothgar, you're removing your jewelry when you try to tame, right? Or are you trying to tame and gain skill with your jewelry on.

You get better skill gains at lower levels, so remove your jewelry

After FIVE months of playing my tamer I gave up on trying to build taming. After 5 months it was only 89 skill. So I grabbed two +13 jewels and birds of brit +5 talisman and poof i'm 120 taming.

I build disco/provo bards rather than peace/disco, just so I can get crowd control and work the spawn alongside my pets. But if you have soulstones, you have the option of choosing your skills for your hunts etc, so that's what I'd recommend.

I tend to work on the principle of having enough real taming skill to control my pets, then I never need to worry about it again. So instead I use skill items for supporting skills such as magery and provo because I use those less, and it allows me to swap out all my skill items for other pieces if I need to. For the long term I'd suggest you put the real skill towards your essentials and plan to swap your skill items over when you finish training :)

Music skills really need to be at 120 to get the best out of them, but you can use skill items there. You can also do something similar to me - have say disco as your main skill at 120 real and use items to boost up your secondary skill. The delay between using barding skills would give you more than enough time to slip on a skill item to use your next skill and might help you while you wait for your real skill cap to raise to 720 :)

You're not using magery for now, but that may be something you need to factor in later as you hunt tougher spawns. HP regen items would help you too, you could always carry potions to support, including invis pots. In fact you might end up just using HP regen for most hunts and soulstone swapping in some magery for the really tough spots. Let us know how you get on - I'm curious to try that myself :D

Yes I do take off jewelery when taming. Would love to find a good spot or animal to tame from 93 up.

Agreed with you Wench I would prefer to get my taming and lore up in real skill so I can use the jewelry spots to boost a secondary skill like magic or whatever I choose.

Spellweaving was one someone mentioned and that intrigued me. Did not seem to need to many points in it.

I do use pots currently (grt cure and grt health) might start bringing some invis with me when I go after bigger pets/hunts. Slowly but surely I am remembering what I had forgotten after leaving :)

I have still not yet attempted to hunt in any of the "new" (anything after malas and luna came out is new to me and even then I did not do much hunting in doom or places like that) places yet :)

Though funny thing happened other day while shopping vendors in Luna. A big golden dragon type creature ambushed me when I was not paying attention lol killed me quick. I ran back and after 15 minutes of peacing and taming trys I got him. I forget what it was called but he is all physical dmg and ridable lol !!!

    Too much fun.

If anyone is on Sonoma and needs help with taming somethiing or just to go hunting somewhere I am always available to help or learn some new areas.

    Hrothgard,

To raise skill most efficiency you want to tame things that put you in the "Zone". The "Zone" is where you have closest to 50% success chance, for the least failures and the most gain.

According to the stratics link below, that would be White Wolves, at 44% chance training. When those get easier, tame Gaman.

    Snake 15-19 1-5 65.1 56%
    White Wolf 34-48 4-10 71.1 44%
    Gaman 130-160 13-23 74.7 36.8%

One thing I am doing and I am getting close to 120 with jewels (yes, I do take the ring off when I train on bulls) is taming dragons (in Destard) and rune beetles to donate to the zoo. You get gains, you get zoo points, and it's a hell of a lot more fun than taming bulls or gaman. You can look for a really good greater dragon or rune beetle while you are at it and you can also train your discord and peace, which is how I would suggest that you tame them (although I'm inexperienced at peace taming so maybe there's a flaw I don't see in that plan... :) ).

The point being that training taming is a lot less of a grind if you are having fun while you are doing it, and even less of a grind if you are accomplishing more than one thing while you are doing it.

Another good place to work with bard skills and taming is the cu sidhe spawn... All my young tamers have trained up there and traded any good coloured pets they found.

Yes, I do that as well. Cu sidhe are very good for training, and again, managing the spawn in there, including the changelings, and killing off paragons is much more interesting and profitable than taming bulls.

Hey all just a quick update on where I went with my template (for now). I love soul stones and it gives us the ability to try so many diff templates !!

I am currently working my taming to 115 and my lore is locked at 110. Just got Birds of Britt so that will be me at static 120 taming and 115 lore for all templates.
My vet is locked at 100 and that too will be included in all templates. Music is being worked to 120 as is peace and disc which will be swapped depending on hunting run or taming run. Magery is being worked to 100 and med to 40.

    So

    Taming 115
    Lore 110
    Vet 100
    Music 120
_________ static 445 points into build.
    Peace 120
    Disco 120
_________ interchangeable 120 points into build. total 565
    Magery 100
    Med 40
__________ puts me at my 705 cap.

I played around with spellweaving and have 30 points on a soulstone (i know did not play much with it lol) I may train it up eventually and see what it offers at higher levels but found myself trying to raise too much at once with weaving/magery/disco on my template. Currently magery only at 70 and i just stoned my peace off so I can go raise my magery and disco (disco also at 70). May eventually play around with Necor and SS and maybe even train myst at some point. My game plan at this time is to keep raising my skills and make this toon a flexible as possible. Heck I can eventually even soul stone the mucis portions and go with strictly caster type skill with my taming vet and lore perhaps even dropping the vet at times to heal strictly with spells.

I guess what you all have taught me is to not be afraid to use Soulstones and try many diff combos !!

Thanks JD for all your help so far and I look forward to learning more from you and everybody else going forward !!!
