As a side note, I feel very weird saying that my mighty BIG RED is now Big 10....it just hasnt sunk in yet!!

    Feels very weird indeed...

But I must admit...Nebraska in the Big Ten is a good Fit...im just kinda sad to see the Big 8/12 Rivalrys go away...decades upon decades of them...but im glad they picked the Big Ten....

I think Nebraska will be a good fit in our conference. I would like to see the Big Ten keep to 12 teams for now. I don't see the point in rapid expansion to 14 or 16. Why have a conference so large you play half the teams a year? I also doubt that they could keep paying each school $20m+ a year if they water it down with weak opponents.

Are the huskers gonna be any good this year? Now that my cubbies have made it clear that they are horrible, I have to hope for the other team I sort of follow to do well. :p

The Huskers will probably win the Big 10 thier first year in. I am glad to see the big 10 and pac 10 expand to 12 teams but I hate the idea of these super conferences; so many good SEC rivalries would get screwed if the conference is forced to pick up a couple extra teams to keep pace with the super conferences.

Bo thinks you two are smoking crack. You really think a team that hasnt broken the top 20 in about 10 years is all of a sudden gonna beat Penn State or even Ohio State. The Huskers should be happy if they can get more wins than losses in conference play.

  7. The Big 10 will be great for Nebraska, the University. It will be very bad for Nebraska, the football team.

Let's face it, NU isn't what it used to be and one year didn't change that. Suh is gone and you'll be back to mediocre this year. What is really going to hurt is that without any Texas teams in the Big 10, your recruiting is going to be limited to kids from Nebraska and second tier kids from other states.

In the long run, this will kill NU football. It will be worse than losing steroids and prop 48's.

NU? Northwestern University? This is the big ten, not some hick conference. Well, there is Iowa I suppose. Oh and don't think the lower rung teams in the big ten will lay down for Nebraska. Michigan State, Illinios, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota can give the better teams in the country a tough time especially at their home fields...la

Not to mention, just wait until those late season games in places where it actually gets cold. Teams from the South (no not Nebraska more like the texas teams) play well when it's warm especially in the post season...why? Because they play where it's warm. Nebraska is going to have to go back to their old ways of pounding the football to be able to play up North at the end of the year...la

I agree with this. I think every away football or basketball game is dangerous in the Big Ten. Purdue lost a lot of close games early on, were 1-5 before they knocked #7 Ohio State on their ass at Purdue. The only real pushover in the conference is Indiana, but they don't lay down in our end of the year rivalry game.

Looks like I got my wish, and there won't be a super conference. It's a shame we'll be required to split into divisions. If they expand to 9 conference games, it won't be too bad skipping just 2 cross division rivals a year. I'd rather see a whole conference round robin with the 2 best teams facing each other in the championship.

We have a powerhouse football program and when Bill Calahan and company got fired along with steve pederson the althetic director and got booted back to pitt...Nebraska has been on an up hill climb ever since...the only thing that will stop Nebraska from being a Championship football program is there leadership....Did we have five years of Crap with Bill? Yes...but the year after he left, we were playing in the Big Twelve Championship...The Big Ten will be a great fit for our program...the big ten is the oldest most stable confrence in the country...seems kinda weird...if Nebraska isnt ****...why did the Big Ten only Invite two teams? Nebraska and Notre Dame...

In no way shape or form is Nebraska going into the Big Ten underestimating the great football programs they have to play in 2011, but it wouldnt be very smart to underestimate us either...Nebraska is no joke when it come's to college ball

  13. Nebraska was invited to the Big 10 because the Big 10 wanted to break up the Big 12. They thought by taking Nebraska, that would happen.

It didn't and now the remaining Big 12 teams will be making more money and getting more Texas players than they were before.

Missouri would have been a better fit for the Big 10. Missouri has three or four times the population of Nebraska and therefore would have created several times the cable revenue that NU brings. Additionally, Mizzou has a better basketball team and even in football, they have won 4 out of the last 7 against NU.

The Big 10 gambled and lost and now they are stuck with Nebraska just like Nebraska is stuck with them.

Don't be surprised if more teams are invited to the Big 10. Missouri and Pitt could be the next invitees, and I think there will always be an open invite to Notre Dame...la

Wow!! you really dont know football do ya....this is the craziest thing Ive ever heard!!!

Missouri Better then Nebraska? OMG Nebraska has a national Following...were ranked in the Top Five most winning programs in History...Our Team was voted the greatest college football team in history not only once...but twice,,,in the top five greatest teams in history...Nebraska was voted Number #1 and number three....you are absolutley insane....Missou doesnt have have half the following as Nebraska, because in our state...Its Law around here...missou doesnt care about college ball and its painfully obvious thats why the big ten turned them down....we are voted the most influential college teams in History also ranking number #4 and that has to do with Tradition as well as Money$$ and Prestige....you are clueless bro....better for you to be quiet now....

We havent started the 2010 season yet, so heres the breakdown of the actuall stats your trying to speak of... your numbers are a bit inaccurate...lol

    2009--#14
    2005--#24
    2003--#18
    2001--#7
    2000--#7
    1999--#2

And most of those stats were based off the last five to seven years with the worst college coach in history behind the wheel...if we had someone with 10% more talent than that guy, these numbers would even be better....most teams count it an honor to do what we have done...even in our worst years.......lol

  17. I'm not saying Missouri has a bigger national following. I think Nebraska is a more known commodity around the nation. I'm not saying Missouri has a better history, clearly Nebraska football has had much more success that Mizzou prior to the last seven years.

The reason I said that Missouri would have been better for the Big 10 is money. The Big 10 Network is a cable network. They get about 10 cents per subscriber in areas that carry the network but don't have Big 10 teams. In areas where there are Big 10 teams, they charge a premium subscription which is around 60 cents.

Nebraska has 600,000 households. Missouri has 2.5 million. So, in one year, Missouri as a member of the Big 10 could have generated close to twenty million for the Big 10 Network, in other words, Missouri could pay for it's share of the Big 10 revenue which is about 20 million per school right now.

On the other hand, Nebraska will generate about 1/4 of that. The Big 10 schools took a pay cut to add Nebraska because the dollars generated by cable subscribers in that state won't come close to offsetting the cost of giving Nebraska an equal share in revenues.

Nebraska made more money for the Big 12 than Missouri because the Big 12 sold their games over the air and only showed three per week. In the cable model the Big 10 uses, Missouri would generate much more revenue for the conference.

Neither Nebraska nor Missouri was the target in all this. The Big 10 and Pac 10 hoped to break up the Big 12. That would have allowed each conference to snag one of the two programs that they really wanted, Texas and Notre Dame.

Bo Bo's numbers werent far off at all especially since Bo was going by memory. Bo knew that the Huskers were ranked well at the end of last season, just didnt think that a team with 4 loses would be in the top 15. Which they were the only team, and personally Bo thinks 4 loses =s outside the top 15. Outside of that it only happened 1 other time in nine years. Thats a big drought for such a storied program. Bo likes to equate the Huskers to an aging boxer, sure they have a big name and were awesome back in the day. But now they are just a little washed up.

They will make good rivals for Wisconsin a second tier team in the Big 10.

Lets say Missou and Nebraska both got into the Big Ten

    Nebraska Vrs Ohio St or

    Ohio ST vrs Missou

I dont care how you stack up the size of the state in which either lives in,,,tell me which game is going to bring in more $$$ per weekend?

Enough Said...no comparrison and the Big Ten has the same numbers and stats as I do...thats why they made the choice for the Big Red and not Missou....Missou sucks and no one would care less about watching Ohio St and Missou except Ohio ST and a few thousand Missou Fans....now when the Big Red plays....OMG....NO CONTEST MAN!!! NO CONTEST...we were ranked 4th in most money brought in by college football programs, why is that? since we have a small state huh? guess its cause our National and midwest following is bigger then 90% of the Big Ten teams...thats why they want us...were going to bring money like crazy...as well as tradition and Wins and cash...this isnt even an argument nationally cause everyone in the "Know" knows better....just seems your a bit behind the eight ball

    AGREED......

  24. The answer to that question depends on whether the game is carried on the Big 10 Network or other television. If the game is on the Big 10 Network, then the Missouri vs. Ohio State game is going to generate more revenue (assuming Missouri was in the Big 10 ). Big 10 Network value isn't determined by the opponents, it is always determined by the number of cable subscribers.

If the game is on ABC, then Nebraska vs. Ohio State will have higher ratings on average but not every year.

More often than not, Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan will be the "national" Big 10 games. So, it is more likely that Nebraska gets bumped to the Big 10 network unless they are playing one of those teams. Thus, the cable subscriber numbers become the important ones again and Missouri is more valuable than Nebraska.

No matter how you try and stack it up...your math doesnt work...but Cable Vrs TV vrs Dish Vrs Satalite...no matter what...When Nebraska or Ohio St or Penn ST or Michigan or Miami or USC or Texas or any major player on the college circut plays each other or anyone else for that fact...it brings more $$$ to any network or confrence vrs a no name scrub team....THATS FACT!!

Whats the point, im debating a guy who doesnt even know college ball...lol
anyone who debates which team, either Nebraska or Missou will generate more $$$ for a confrence is absolutly out of there mind...The Big Ten Website and There own chancellor said the same thing im saying...but hey,,,I guess there all wrong as well as myself......lmao

  26. Scrub team?

    http://www.rockmnation.com/2009/5/27/890903/zoudave-gets-vindictive

If a "scrub team" beats Nebraska by 35 points in Lincoln, what does that make Nebraska? Now that I look, Missouri has beaten Nebraska by 35 twice in the last three years.

    Ouch.

  27. Elmer Fudd

    Elmer Fudd Guest

Well lets see.,..has Missou ever beat Nebraska? Sure...but lets put it into perspective

Lets go back 40 Years? is that enoughh????

Nebraska has won 32 years out of 40 years?

    Yes....there a scrub team!!!

See thats your problem, you look at one game to determine your statistical basis...just like your dumbass TV theory...your only caculating the population of the State of Missou Vrs the population of the state of Nebraska and your making a judgment based on that...thats as ingnorant as your last post...when you put the Size of Nebraskas following NATIONALY and all factors involved....its no contest...kinda like our Win/Loss Record Vrs Missouri....Please keep this up...cause your really looking like brain child here.......ROFLMAO

By the way, How many national championships does Missou have in Football???-----------------------> ZERO!!! LMAO

    There a scrub team

I'd put Bama 61' and Bama 92' upgainst either of those teams any day! That 92 Bama Defense was scary; I always hated that Neb and Bama never got to play in the early 90s when both teams were really good. Maybe they can get a home and home series going at some point; talk about a match up that would have INSANE fun support..

Yes, Bama was very solid indeed, but I dont think you would have wanted them to play the 95 Huskers....Ever!,,,lol

The biggest thing I notice about that video was the old men who are screaming "Let it go" seem to be the ones having trouble letting the past go. Corso is entertaining, but he doesn't know a damn thing about what makes a team great. And as far as Holtz goes, that old man hasn't been relevant in a football conversation for two decades, even if you can figure out what the hell he is saying. 2001 Canes would have been an awesome game against that 95 Nebraska team. Pretty pointless to try and compare teams of different seasons/eras, but five first round draft picks and an offense that you could practically start an NFL franchise off of, I would put my money on the Canes.

I'm just blown away by the number of elite NFL players that have come from the University of Nebraska. I mean we are talking LEGENDS like kicker Kris Brown, perennial 2nd string FB for the Detroit Lions Cory Schlesinger, and lets not forget CB Ralph Brown who had two, that's right count them, two whole tackles in last years Superbowl for the Cardinals!!! With numbers like that its amazing that teams aren't fighting tooth and nail to get these guys signed as top priority going into camps this year.

You do realize Miami is nowhere near what it used to be either don't you? It does all go in cycles; Bama 1997-2007 was horrible except for the 99, 02, and 05 seasons but look at where they are now. I'm just glad to see USC getting the same NCAA beatdown that Bama had to take a few years ago.

P.S. the game i am dying to see is USCw(tojans) vs. USCe(game cocks)...

Let me get this straight? are we talking about who the greatest college team in history is? or we talking about which team has sent more players to the pros?

Im just curious? I personally dont have the stats on that...im only making a cute rebuddle to Kages statment about Nebraska being a scrub team, which I know he was kidding,

So I defended with the Voted Facts that not only was Nebraska Voted the best ever but holds a number 2 or 3 spot also...depending on which stat you look at. sorry Miami couldnt cut the mustard in this great Honor or even the Team with the most National Titals...but if Miami holds the record for the team with most players sent to the pro's? well then....ALL HAIL MIAMI FOR SUCH A GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENT!!!!ROFLMAO......

LMAO...Look at these stats....Nebraska Beats Miami again....opps sry bro
The info below in red was copy and pasted from a google search....

Actually, the most players have been produced from Notre Dame. You guys above me are telling us which school has the most active players in the NFL at this current time. The proper answer to the question is the following.

    Notre Dame 462

    USC 461

    Ohio State 390

    Oklahoma 339

    Michigan 332

    Nebraska 331

    Tennessee 321

    Penn State 317

    Texas 316

    Miami (FL) 294

    Florida 289

The question is asking what school has produced the most NFL players, not which school has the most NFL players playing in it right now ( which is what is listed above my answer ).

Considering Miami has really only had a program for the past thirty years and they still have almost 300 on that list, I'd say you're not really proving any point. I did say elite players, of which there are almost none from the Huskers. As far as National Championships go, I'm not sure your point there either as they both have five. That's even counting Tom Osborne's going away present that the coaches gifted him in 97 when Michigan was by far the better team that season.

Miami had to overcome some sanctions of their own too. As far as Miami not being what they once were, you're right, it all goes in cycles. I'm betting Miami will be back on top before Nebraska makes its mark in the Big Ten. The same thing will happen to the Tide. Bama will falter in a few years as well, and then they will be back years after that.

...Miami's program started back in 1926 with Howard Buck as the coach all the way till current....boy your stats are way off base and Nebraska Crushes Miami in damn near every stat you can imagine.

Do your research before you spout off the mouth, Miami has been around damn near as long as Nebraska...does Miami have a solid program? absolutly and Ill pay them all the respect they deserve, but for you to sit there and try and belittle Nebraska's stats which are far better then Miami's is absurd, all because you dont like them? Numbers are numbers and they dont lie...seems like your the only one who cant admit it even when its plastered right in your face

Can you use any more punctuation?
Once again, read the WHOLE sentence before you start flipping out and searching for stats. I said Miami didn't really have a program until 30 years ago, I didn't say they didn't have a team before that. Basically when Howard Schnellenberger took over as head coach and reinvented the program into a nationally recognized team.
With your logic, the teams and schools that have been around the longest are the greatest? This whole discussion is moot then, cause Princeton and Yale are the kings of this mountain.
Speaking of not being able to admit when you're wrong, why not give me a few names of those PLENTY of greats you were talking about?

  47. Elmer Fudd

    Elmer Fudd Guest

Your implication was that "Miami didnt have a program untill 30 years ago"

Basically saying that you dont want us to count any stats only for like 30 years....cause you cant count our bad years whaa whaaa cry cry....thats why i was posting like that...your team ultimatly doesnt measure up with the greats....deal with it Kirk...lol

Miami nor you can defend your stats vrs ours...and both of our programs have been going around the same amount of time...and Ill use as much punctuation as I want, ok Kirk...lol

I understand why your dancing around all my arguments or stats, cause you cant fricking defend yourself...you have no defence at all, miami is a solid team with a solid program, but Nebraskas is Flat out one of the greats and much better then Miami....end of story, end of discussion, you cant defend against the mathmatical truth...so dance away Kirk

Anything from you from here on out is strictly argumentative...you have no Facts...Nebraska does, if you want to really get into a good discussion, you should root for a real team like Michigan or Alabama or USC...they got some real meat and potato's behind there program, unlike Miami...lol

the huskers and the cains have good football programs. But they arent on the level as some other teams like Penn State. Penn State is a great program prolly the best because with Penn State it isnt all about football, sure they compete each year, hell they finished higher than Miami or the huskers. But they also graduate students.

If we were looking for convicts than sure Neb, and Miami would be a great place to look.

And Tibs please lets try to keep programs that are famous for cheating and breakin rules outta of the conversation about quality programs.

I don't seem to recall saying anything negative about Nebraska's program other than they just don't produce top tier talent that is successful at the next level. They have certainly earned their place in history as one of the greatest college dynasties of all time. In the last 40 years Nebraska, Bama, Miami, and USC (Until the NCAA gets done with stripping titles) have the most titles at five championships each. All are legacy programs and are deserving of mention as greatest of all time.
I'm not sure if you are trying to insult me by calling me Kirk over and over. Number one, if you are, its not much of an insult. The guy is pretty successful at what he does, and what he does is gets paid to travel the country and watch college football all season long. Then, he gets paid to talk about it the rest of the week. Sounds pretty sweet to me. Number two, if you are, then I would have to ask why you feel it necessary to insult a friend over a disagreement about a hypothetical game.
