    Hello all,

if I didn't know already, I'd want to know what was going on last night. As the bug has been fixed already, I assume there is no problem describing what was going on, especially since we all can learn from some peoples' behavior:

The Publish 59 introduced a way to finally turn the Cloaks of Corrpution into something useful: Cloaks with minor magic abilities. You have to get a quest from one of the NPC Seers in Yew Empath Abbey, Serpent's Hold or Moonglow Lycaeum to turn the Cloaks of Corruption into Cloaks of Life, Death or Power. To do that, you get a Cloak of Corruption and 10 of the appropriate Threads, mark them as quest items and finish the quest at the Seer.

Now, someone found out that if you'd put on the new cloak immediately after receiving it, a second one would drop to the ground beneath your feet. Some people "duped" their cloaks without knowing it, others duped them deliberately. (I don't blame neither of them. When I found out about it, I already had turned in one of my 2 cloaks, and I plan to keep my second one anyway.)

Of course, the Seers were soon frequented by certain players with stealth ability, who'd hide there just to pick up the cloaks that dropped to the ground. Some people (unfortunately it is always the same persons that profit from such abuse) picked up 10 or more cloaks that way. I heard them talk about it. Other players started to police the area, warning players of hidden stealthers.

I want to thank the game developers for putting in a quick fix for this issue. I guess quite a number of cloaks have been duped already, but who cares, since the cloaks are not really powerful and they are ugly (you won't see a pirate wearing those, hehe).

This is just a classic example of how people quickly find ways to abuse system loopholes, and how certain players/guilds are always the first to excessively exploit them. I don't blame the developers. Things like these can always happen. As long as the rewards are not too powerful, the damage inflicted to the game is very limited. Duping valorite hammers is much worse. (As I said: Reducing item importance will solve a lot of duping and cheating problems in the game.)

I agree there ugly and I will probably not wear the one I have but I like collecting sets of certain things. I have a set of virtue snow globes with chaos and I am working on the champions of the virtues in one color. I mean I can't be all about PvP or RP some things are sort of fun to collect.

The people I had in Ventrilo had several of the extra shrouds stolen from under them, so they used tracking and waiting for those people to do the quest, then stole their extra shrouds in return.

I know not everyone got an extra one everytime they did the quest, which leads me to believe you had to be a certain distance or something for it to happen. I dunno what the circumstances needed to be.

The actual details are spread out and not very clear, I've heard several versions of the story. The latest is that the dupe happened when you put on the quest cloak, so some walked away, or went home before even touching it in their packs. I was standing on dirt at the time so if I had one drop I didn't see it happen. It seems to be fixed however.
