    and I was kinda lookin' forward to intricate gargoyle structures.. don't ask me why, but I thought that they would have impressively decorated buildings, adorned with many sculptures

    Would be nice if they didn't zoom so far back in all the photos.

    Maybe it's just me, but all the screenshots look almost exactly like the 2d client being used today. Other than blurrying the landscape so it looks less like tiles, it just looks the same.
     
  4. Looks to be the new SA client... the slider bar on the left is new... zoom function I am guessing. The health bar looks different, but that can be changed with a custom UI.

    Okay... when do we get to test!?

    Where do you see the slider bar? The screen shots just show pics of areas. Or am I looking at wrong spot?

    The screenshots don't give me a gargoyle "feel". Just seems like another New Haven or any town.
    I like the last shot with the red crystals growing out of ground. Now THAT is new!

    It seems that either a.) enough people had giant fits on the boards about it to cause the art department to notice, or b.) the art department was already planning on going over this design again, because it looks like it has turned into this:

    Its looking good. I hope they dont use that dumb speech box like all the other games have. I HATE THAT THING and HATED the KR way. I hope they keep speech above the heads. It's silly but thats one reason I like UO so much. You could tell what character was talking because speech was above them.


    PLEASE MAKE SURE THE FIRE FROM CANDLES AND TORCHES DON'T BLEED INTO THE NEXT FLOOR!!!

    Speech is above your head in KR just like it has been in every other UO client. The message box simply replaces the journal scroll and the system message spam in the bottom left of the screen and can be placed according to however you want it. Want to have the system messages in the bototm left, then separate the two tabs if you want the Journal as well or just have the Systems tab open and put it in the bottom corner transparent. Want the journal separated, then you can do that and place it however you wish, you can even customize what appears or does not appear in said journal.

    It's the same thing that 2d uses, just in a different format.

    Ultima gargoyle architecture tends to be a bit more.. angular than this. Could be much worse, tho.

    The concept art for the palace was good... just needs to be tweaked some to look closer to that.
     
  12. There is a vertical slider bar on the middle left hand edge. It's all the way to the bottom, which makes me think it is the zoom and the pics are zoomed out to max view.

    OH.. not every pic has it.

    It's not quite as nice (beautiful) as 2D but it's better than KR and you can figure out what things are...

    What will be the syst requirements for this client?

  15. Looks pretty close to the current KR graphics to me, maybe sharpened a bit, but close. And beauty is an opinion... 2D looks too hard edged (cartoonish) to me. Altogether though, it's the game play behind the client and client playability I really care about.

    This looks like something I would give a decent shot at. Feels like a good transition from 2D, unlike previous incarnations which made you feel like you were playing a different game.

    Two thumbs up so far! Of course, all will depend on performance and how good it scales up to normal gameplay.

    Well, it is not so bad. My comments:

    • The ground artwork looks very nice. I like the stones and grass.
    • In certain zoom levels some items and the characters look blurry, while the borders of other items (like palm trees) look square-edged. You still notice that the game wasn't designed for this client.
    • In 2D it was easy to recognize ground elevations. In KR it was almost impossible. I hope this has improved, because due to this problem it was a pain to place houses in KR.
    • I very much hope the lighting effects have been improved. They add a lot to the gaming experience. I also hope that night sight won't destroy the lighting effects anymore (like it does in 2D). Night sight should make the environment a little brighter, but not bright as day.
    • I can't wait to test the SA client.

    Aside from the new stuff for the new building styles, from what I can see the ground artwork is exactly the same as what was in KR to begin with.

    Can we get a msg logging feature? Sometimes dialogue or whatnot occurs and I miss it (if I look away, etc). The very earliest version of UO had a Log that captured on screen text that disappeared..

    I'm pretty sure you're talking about the journal, which still exists. Just hit "journal" on the toolbar up top.

    i am actually impressed with the screenshots of the new client. keep the play style similair with the legacy uo and new engine could be what uo needs. keep the good work uo devs.

  31. Play style similar to the 2D client??? How did KR change the play style?

    All the monsters are the same, PvM and PvP rules are the same, crafting is the same (albeit faster and easier in KR), poisoning and curing and healing work the same... Graphics and no need for a 3rd party UOA/UOAM programs, and improved macro commands are different, but the play style is exactly the same.
