Having recently returned to Siege, I've run into some of the invasion forces. Some falsehoods, for instance, routinely hang in some of the buildings near where I live in SE Moonglow. I routinely try to kill them - thieves that when they die cause you to lose karma and you hear that you just killed an innocent. I could care less of the karma loss and that you don't get any loot.

I've yet to understand the rationale behind this whole thing. Sometimes there are no invasion forces. Sometimes there are. A half hour or so ago I meandered my way all the way to Moonglow on my Ki-rin and not bothering with the mongbats or maybe a couple falsehoods that I saw. Never saw anything dangerous. Teleported over the south fence at the inn to try to claim my dragon forgetting that the stable guy is located near the blackrock pit. Teleported back across and cast explosion on a falsehood who was approaching. In the Inn was a red falsehood and then a General was visible but inside - never left the place. I have no clue as to what killed me but I was dead in a couple seconds and about a screen away from the fence.

I'd really like to know how long this deal is gonna continue. It's shudderring to say, but it's far safer for me to grab a couple high end pets and just go and try to kill some paragon efreets that I know what I'm dealing with. Just some thoughts.

When I asked this question, I was told that there is curreently no plan to end the invasion scenario.

The invasions are junk. You never know when a town is under attack and at least on my shard, if this is some "big event" for the large guilds and faction players to participate in, I never see them doing it. So I don't see why the towns should be overrun for days at a time for something that faction guilds finally get together at 3am to go deal with someday.

I say make all these spawns hit something else other than the old virtue towns, which have been battered and abused enough since the concept of town attacks started back in like '99. It's probably already past the point of being able to revitalize any sort of regular use or communities in these cities.

If the idea of hitting Trammel cities with invasion takeovers was to "nudge players to participate in the story and not just afk around town banks", it's failed to have that effect, since the invasions haven't hit Luna, the only place players still go anyway.

    All 70s resist?

Nothing should kill a toon in 1 hit, maybe write a bug report if you are unhappy?

Agreed. It has failed and many of us miss the cities. I want to do Compassion safely again, I'd like to do more with the collections, etc. but I'm afraid of the cities. I don't see why invasion forces can't be out in the wild where anyone who does want to fight them will find them.

Not unhappy. I'm guessing, with jewelery, I was at about 60's in resist - maybe a bit more. To elaborate, after I casted explosion on a falsehood, I was casted upon twice by something - either the falsehood or the General that was inside the Inn. The initial hit almost killed me and by the time I was ready to cure/heal I got hit again which was the end. I can't believe the falsehood was the guy.

I think this invasion is whacked. The only good one, that I remember, was years ago when Britain was being attacked. I x-healed tamers pets with my tailor and used my ossie to kill lower end stuff. This is aggravating as it's like a major project on Siege to figure out where to go. Where are invasion forces? Where are cheap regs?

I think I'm just gonna go out tonite and get my mare and my dragon and kill every falsehood that I see. Whoever/whatever else gets in my way good luck to them.

Just a follow up. I think I've underestimated the abilities of falsehoods and think that the one the other day got me instead of the General in the Inn. I just went out, instead of last nite, and ran into one while riding a mare that is battle proven and about 5 years old. Way cool fight - an "All Kill" and they were going at it big time.

The falsehood finally died. Lesson learned - there is no point screwing around with this spawn when it's way easier to PvM other stuff and get a decent return for your efforts.

The townspeople [falsehood, hatred, etc] are still NPCs.

If they are mage NPCs they will cast.
If they are archers, they shoot an arrow in your arse.
If they are peasants, they'll die.

Some of them hit harder than others. Frankly I find it refreshing that not all the NPCs in town are wimps.

    This is understandable.

What's not is that few players do, or even KNOW TO, habitually and religiously check with Sherry the Mouse statues (where, other than people who anally read every bit of publish info, would the typical player know to do this? I know the game didn't tell or warn me) before entering cities. And, if you encounter these guys near moongates (as was the case with me, they were literally steps from the Trinsic moongate and hurried over and started stealing from me) you are punished for defending yourself.

I don't see the logic behind this whatsoever, or why the devs would want to "discourage" you from protecting yourself, yet put something hostile into the game that will rob you or attack you on sight.

I don't really know, or care to know, the full deal on how this invasion stuff works, all I know is that if you are supposed to avoid these NPC's altogether and only fight the dragons or whatever, then it's just a recipe for "don't use towns anymore except Luna, you can't be sure which ones are safe" and I don't see how that's good for the game community.

    It's war.

    Innocents die.

Doesn't make them not innocent, doesn't mean you should be OK with it.

    I think it's a nice touch.

I've managed to keep my collateral damage to a minimum, but it kind of helps RP when I have to, honestly...One time in particular, a Hatred got between Galen and the Crimson Dragon.

If you don't like the Karma loss and find some NPC-deaths inevitable, go kill a few demons.

Or just bank sit in Luna and don't go to the invaded towns. Cities IRL that become war zones do indeed typically see a decline in economic activity. Hard to do shopping when there's snipers.

If you steal from me you are a criminal, not an innocent.

I don't believe in "special" rulesets for NPC's which do not apply to the player as well.

Making them innocents doesn't seem to me to have anything to do with RP'ing a war and more to do with discouraging you from interacting with them whatsoever, and just avoiding them. I'm not sure why they bothered to put them in the game, other than to make cities unuseable while an invasion is going on there, until people go kill the dragon.

By all means, retcon a sensible RP rationale out of it. I salute you for doing so. But your doing so doesn't mean this ruleset makes any sense and is not irritating to most players to the point where, as you said, they are picking up their marbles and going home. I have to check statues before visiting certain cities? Screw it, I'll go to a city I know doesn't have NPC's that will steal from me. That is a rational player's reaction, and probably the majority reaction.

So, unless this event is just for a few really bored higher end players, I see it as a flawed idea poorly implemented, confusing and discouraging to players who might just want to hop in and participate (or even keep their belongings.)

And, as noted before, continued assurance that the old cities will never be used again, other than for the 10 minutes it takes to kill and loot the dragon.
