You may not leave an active character or pet in game while unattended. If your character is performing a skill, text or action, you must be able to respond to a Game Master when one attempts to speak to you.

    From the rules of conduct

So I am unsure about this as in I would like to leave my pet in an area and let him fight. I don't want the loot I just want the pet to train, I am aware of the risk to his life, thats fine with me. I want to go off to do things at my house, not unattended, I just don't want to sit around with the pet.

So, I'm not unattended the pet is not unattended he is just alone in the world fighting for his life.

NOW the part I'm really pissed about!! I page a GM to ask if this will or could get me introuble, and the answer is....

I can't help you with that. He spent more time writing "I can't help you with that" then he did with "yes" or "no".

So the rule is not exactly clear, and my options are now to call in to ask customer service but it dosen't matter what they say cause the GM's do what they want. I'm really irritated with my pay for service...

I have added this last line for clarrification that this post is about the lack of customer service not the stupid pet question.

Oh my your a genius!! I will page on myself then respond to the gm when he come so he can't ban me!!

I really hope someone from EA Mythic reads this to see just how dumb things have gotten with customer service. I really love this game, content, sandbox, development, it's all great, but you know your only as strong as your weakest link...

ive allways thought of it like this.

your pet is like a skill.

if your not there you should not be allowed to gain with it.
    (or farm with it)
its like me leaving my dragon in a demon room in fel and letting the silver fall into my pack while im out stealing artifacts or doing something else.

but on the same point, im a firm believer that you should be able to anything you want in fel.
for the simple point that if someone comes along and 'disagrees' with what you are doing they have the option to kill you, or as to what your doing... then have the option to kill your pet.

As long as you're ATTENDED and IN THE AREA of the pet, I don't see an issue... otherwise, I have zero sympathy and hope the least that happens is the pet going wild, dying and disappearing forever.

Harsh? Maybe, but I believe that it's NOT intended to be able to park a pet to fight things while you're off elsewhere.

I personally would say that what you're asking is probably going to bite you GM-wise.

  6. If you are seen by another player. And they page on you. The gm pops a message to the person owning the pet. If you do not reply you get a mark and moved to the macro jail. Had a guy crying about it not so long ago.

You know... somtimes they don't even attempt to talk to you.

Last week I ground out tailoring 50-120 in a day. It was long, and tedious, but I did it. Several times though, while sitting there on my beetle in luna near the stables I was "disconnected" only to log in and be invisible and somewhere NOT in luna...

I would check my logs and there were no comments or messages from a GM. Perhaps this wasn't even a GM and was merely some safety protocol in the game? No clue but it was highly annoying.

I wasn't even macroing, I was clicking everything! I was also watching a movie while the Advanced Client burned through sewing kit uses, using the normal in game UI with "Make Max." But as far as I know this isnt against the rules. If it is, they should take the Make Max out and listen to all the crafters complain. ;)

Did you miss the point to the post? I'm not asking you or anybody else if I can do what I asked the GM. I am simply pointing out that I asked for a rule clarification from the guy that would make the decision before I did it and he would not answer me.

Mr. Police Officer, I was wondering if I would get introuble if I walk over that lawn to get my basketball. Well son, if you do you would be tresspassing and I would have to arrest you. Thank you officer, I wont do it then.

But honestly, thats for your brusing assesment my question.

I've paged a GM between ten to fifteen times in the past year. I've never gotten anything besides a canned response, myself, but I've heard from other players that they can be helpful. Thus, I've always tried to speak highly of EA staff, to include GMs. That said...

OMG. If a GM is not able to answer this question for you, I cannot imagine what question they can answer. Don't unattended-related topics fall under the purview of GMs? This is honestly one of the worst examples I have ever heard vis-a-vis GM support. :cursing:

    Annnnd....que end of tantrum. :blushing:

So you have a question of dubious legality and expect what... sympathy for the action?

Personally I'm not sure I can actually remember the last time I actually PAGED a GM (maybe for something underneath my house what 8, 9 years ago?). The rest has been done sans the need for a GM.

After seeing the past couple of "I paged a GM" threads, it becomes clearer as to why it's hard enough to get one to respond in the first place.

It'd be nice to have better GM customer service, but given that we don't have an unlimited number of GMs and the apparent number of unnecessary calls being made, we get stuck with the auto-responses.

But hey, we could return to the "good old days" when such pages were met with the canned "I cannot help thee with that" response :D

I'm on a dark road asking for a rule clarification??

I'm missing something here. I pay for a service that has rules. I want to better understand one of those rules, so I has the rules chief for a clarification about the rule. The rule cheif says he can not help me.

Dermot is acting like a :dunce:

I'm sorry but I get really sick of people reading a post and infering the meaning of the the post to be something negative or that the poster is trying to cheat or get over.

I want to know if I can do something that is not clear, so I ask. I don't get an answer so I post here to say "I'm tired of not getting any customer service from my customer service" and I get you deserve to have your pet go wild and die and get maimed and you sukkors for thinking this.

Draconi is gonna come post, " Sure Slav, you can put your pet at a spawn and go do other stuff while he trains." "I would encourage all the players to do this." "Hmmm Maybe in the next publish we will just make all pets have fulll skills at the time of bonding!"

There is a dumbass in this thread but it is not Dermott.

me personaly I think the answer would be NO u cant

but as to what the OP is saying, the gm should have said yes or no, but then he he said hte wrong answer, he could get in trouble so better to go safe & say i dont know.... honestly how hard would it of been for the gm to say,

    * no u cant leave pet alone, that puts ur pet afk macroing a skill since ur not babysitting it.....*

instead of bashing him for his ?, why not ignore the afk part (sicne he was ligitamently askign for an answer from a gm) & center on what he was saying....the gm's do squat in this game most days :( I think I would rather of had the canned go to the web sire answer

& before u bash me, no I dont afk macro, dont think its ok & yes 3rd party programs make this game WAY to easy :(

And this to my mind is the single biggest reason this game is on the decline. Not graphics, not a dated system, but lack of customer support or the feeling that you have a company that is standing behind the product you are paying for.

I understand this may miss the OP's original statement, but I had to add my opinion to that line of thought.

    To the OP:

The fact that the You questioned whether or not it was against the rules Yourself, before you paged the GM, means that you had a pretty good idea already that it was against the rules.

I have to agree with the Pawain in that if WE weren't Expected to TRAIN our pet's skills Ourselves, then they'd come to us already fully trained.

A Dev accidentally turned on or purposely turned on "telestorming' then forgot to turn it off.

Lots of us got disconnected while at Luna bank and found ourselves tellied to new locations when we logged back in.

I think Draconi confessed to it? Oh yes here's the link:

    http://www.uoherald.com/fof/?fofId=173

"With the release of SA, there will obviously be new events to participate in. With that in mind, are there plans to improve things technically to reduce the uber-lag that always goes hand in hand with the events?
You know, this is something I think we can do by more carefully structuring events.

I think many will remember the Trial of Ricardo being almost completely lag free, even with 100+ people gathered in the same room. We had written very specific control scripts to keep things calm, which massively reduced screen refreshes and network traffic. Compare that to the Mad Mage event, where there were over 400+ on screen at a time, which actually activated the dormant telestorming code. *I* got telestormed while I was trying to activate the code word to turn it on!

Please can doubleclicking a throwing weapon for hide and pile of wool.
Wow, that makes total sense, especially since they’re edged!

this could be a gray area.. i mean if i decide to tame an animal, and leave it tamed and just go away to let it go wild, then it decides to kill some monsters.. how would i get banned for this?

this whole unattended, attended, macroing, scripting thing is getting old..
you guys complain about everything.. here i am sitting in heartwood, doing bow quests and some idiot decides to walk up to me and stand on my char saying hi over and over and over thinking that at some point i wish to talk to him, i just ignore them..

then i get the message a few minutes later, by some gm, witch by the way most of the time i have many open bags and the crafting gump up i dont even see it.. 90% of the time it shows up under my heath bar in SA client..

why does it matter if i say hi back, or even pay attention..
in the SA client i can make a macro go on for a good 10 minutes..
sometimes im guild chatting, sometimes i am watching tv or a movie on my computer.

i pay the same as everyone else.. its my choice to NOT reply to everyone that thinks they own the game..

I'm sorry, but I don't see that the question needed to be asked at all, the answer is patently obvious.
Any action, or indeed inaction, that results in a benefit to your character (in this case a more highly trained pet) is not to be carried out AFK. The only thing you can do AFK is leave your character idle, doing nothing, gaining nothing, acruing no benefit whatsoever.

If you planned to leave your pet out in the wilds alone while your character was in your in game house, that won't work. If you're not there, nothing happens.

    For the original post:

Try this: put your pet in the spawn where you want it, go back to your house. Log in with another account, assuming you have one, or have a friend do it if you don't.

Then tell us what your pet is doing then.

Odds are, your pet will be wandering around aimlessly, even in the middle of a thick spawn. This is because there's code in-game to prevent exactly what you're thinking of attempting, and if you aren't close enough to your pet (I haven't figured out exactly how far yet, but same subserver seems to apply), then your pet won't attack any enemies, much like things won't stay provoked if you don't have line of sight.

So as far as I know, your original question is moot, except for the answer that, since they have code in which is supposed to prevent it, then it most certainly would be frowned upon if you figure out a way to make it work.

To everybody that posted a reply to the inconsiquential part about what I wanted to do with a pet, then I say to all of you mods or not.

You just wanted to pick a fight.

My post is about the lack of customer service we get in this game. I used the pet as a illistration as how I as a player might have a question about the rules. Want to get an answer and could not. I could use 15 different examples and all of you would probally say the same dumb stuff.

As far as the pet goes, since you all are determined to point out how I am such a wantabe cheeter, on the verge of scripting, or something else that I am.

I had my CU fighting the shadow ele in the tok dungeon. Wanted to run to the bank to get something, and wanted to know if on the off chance that while I was a way for a few minutes here and there, that if a player came by and paged if I would get in trouble.

But thank you to everybody for answering the question I never asked, thank you for being so rude to me, thank you for making this community that much stronger.

Oh and btw I'm still not asking anybody's "oppinion" about the pet. If your a gm or ea rep sure I would like a answer. If you want to comment on how not getting answers from gm's bothers you have at it. If you just want to start a fight, let this post die.

It's not my opinion, I already asked to support if training pets at the stable (you know, resist gains) was ok because I wasn't sure if it was related to trapping mobs for gains. They answered me yes, as long as you're attended. It's not new.

Also, it isn't new either, if your character is left unattended doing nothing and for any reason the client doesn't disconnect, if you don't reply to a GM, he'll disconnect you. If no gain were implied for you or your pet, you won't get any mark on your account.

    A stupid pet question

Hey if I want to leave my pet fighting monsters while I go off and do something else for a bit, then come back to check on said pet. I am not going to log into a different char, I am not going to be unattended myself. I will be activly training a different pet that is not strong enough to fight on it's own.

Do you think this is ok to do??

Now everybody that was so determined to ruin my post about crappy GM service can post their two cents.

If someone talks about crappy GM service here, I will personally destroy the internet forcing everybody here to learn how to read.

    1) The tone of your OP & most of your replies is quite petulant & arrogant.

    2) ROC quite obviously state that what you want to do is illegal. Do you not understand what the word "unattended" means?
Based upon your exact words your pet is unattended and gaining skills. If he was "alone in the world figthing for his life" as you say, he would then quite obviously not be a pet. He would be an unowned, unbonded wild animal all alone.

    3) I am kinda hoping that the GM assigned to your ridiculous & time wasting page just decided to let you figure out the obvious on your own and moved on to the next page that actually meritted an answer.

    Capice?

    Re: A stupid pet question

That wouldn't be allowed. While your pet is actively engaged with a spawn you must always be able to answer a GM should they appear beside your pet.

Either take the pet with you when you leave the spawn, or ensure it's not actively fighting something and leave it in an area where nobody can mistake it for an unattended training pet.

If you're talking about going away from the PC for a minute, stop your pet fighting and park up somewhere safe, better still log out.

A player who finds your pet fighting on his own isn't going to know that you popped away and the GM won't either. So I'd advise playing it safe and not leaving your pets in an active state.

  29. Re: A stupid pet question

I also wondered about this. I've known of several people who have trained cu sidhe this way. I haven't done this only because I didn't want my pet to die, not because I thought it was illegal. I'm not sure I agree with your explanation on why this would be illegal, but would like more of an explanation, and not trying to start an argument - just clarification. I don't see this as the same this as unattended macroing, but could be wrong.

Example: I drop my pet in a dungeon to train, then go fight elsewhere to collect gold and loot. In my view, I am not macroing, and am not bank sitting.

That's kinda my point. I read the TOS, no unattended, but is it talking about you or the pet, cause in the TOS the reference to unattended is singular, not plural.

I know people want to key in on the fact that the pet is training, im gaining something blah blah blah. Go ahead but my question is about clarifying the rule. I don't care if its illigeal or not, I just want to know.

If there is this much confusion about it, try submitting it to the FoF, maybe it will get answered and published. My 2 cents, don't do it if your worried about it. I personally stay w/ the pet I'm training but not because I'm worried about a GM raining fire down on me or something :eyes:, I just rather watch my pet's progress or heal it when/if needed.

  32. Re: A stupid pet question

I care if it is illegal or not.

That's a good suggestion, but often questions like these are never answered. It's difficult to answer a question "legally" to cover every situation. But I too like to see my pets progress, even recording the time and stats to learn the fastest training method.

    Ok then rewrite it.

The intention was I'm irritated that I got no answer on something that I did not understand in the tos. What is the problem clarifying to the customer a rules question.

There were 7 people in the que, it took less then 5 minutes to get a answer that took more time to compile then "yes" or "no".

I'm pretty sure I did not tax the help que beyond its capabilities.

The only reason im irritated now is because a half dozen posters jumped down my throat.

I wonder what any of you would do if when you call in to your credit card company to ask a question about your rates, the cs rep says I can't answer that for you cause it's written in the small print 7 page credit card terms we mailed you.

You generally open with what you're talking about and then the example.
Ex.) I'm really tired of the poor customer service we get in this game. We pay a lot of money (I don't even want to think about how much I've spent over the years), and yet the GMs can't even respond to my question about unattended pets.
Instead, you did it the reverse way, which made users think you still had the question.
But this IS covered in the ROC so you shouldn't have gone to a GM. This response is probably given via the use of a button rather than typing.

From the rules of conduct [my bold]

I wouldn't class being in game elsewhere as being attended when your pet is active in game. How can you attend to a pet when you're miles away? ;) You certainly couldn't answer the GM if he arrived beside your pet.

On the occasions that I've paged on a "park and go" tamer, some went poof and others just abruptly packed up and left. So I would say this practice only works as long as nobody calls the GM...

When everybody answers out of topic, maybe it's just the OP's fault not being clear enough. Maybe. But will he admit it?

    Re: A stupid pet question

As Wenchy has posted, gm's will abscond with pets that are abandoned and actively engaged in the game, if someone pages on them. So I think it's safe to say that this is illegal, and could get you in trouble. Not to mention the fact that I'm not sure why you would want to do this anyway, pets will go wild if they are out of range of their master. I certainly wouldn't leave a valued pet on it's own for more than a few seconds if I could possibly help it.

I left my cu for 15 minutes yesterday while I went off to help a greater chicken find its wings. CU did not loose a ounce of loyalty.

I have ADHD so sometimes my brain gets the stuff out backwards. It looks forward to me but if all of you say it's backwards then I defer.

Yes I can admit when I'm wrong but if were going around admitting fault here how about the posters that jumped right down my throat.

I will work on my arangement of wording in the future. I appologize to anybody that i offended with my post.

There is a ton of things I would like to say here, but I will stick with the topic. First off, have you ever thought that the GM knows that what you are doing is illicit by the tos, and chose to give you the canned response because there are much more important issues to be dealt with other than you leaving you pet to kill some mongbats or whatever? Because if she/he in fact did see that you were doing this it would be a strike on your account? As with any new release I can assure you that the GM's hands are overfull at the moment. It seems pretty inconsiderate of you to ask questions you already know the answer to. You are wasting everyone's time. I have paged GM's maybe 5 times since I started. It has been for legitimate reasons I feel. One example would be that the keys in some boss areas did not have timers and were not lootable. It is people like you that are keeping real issues from being resolved.

Thanks, Wenchy. I've read the ROC before, and missed the "or pet" wording. That is what I was looking for.

Oh dont even go there, I paged for salva being stuck in an area where the player could not kill her, since she is required to finish a quest you would say that is a valid page vs. I, (as in me, not you) read something that I am confused about, and your justifying my question as invalid. Mabye I should just come to you from now on to seek your approval for my questions.

If I don't understand something I should just shut my mouth and don't ask, right.

BTW when I paged for salva in the Lady Mel quest, I got "We can not help you with this"

I merged this thread with the one you created TEN MINUTES LATER discussing the same topic. Please don't do this. Feel free to clean up your posts as you see fit.

You have got to be kidding me.

This one is about crappy Customer service, created last night.

The other is a question about pets, created this morning.

Even you are not paying attention.

But I guess since your a mod, I can not argue with you.

    *Bows down to the world*
