Whats the best way to work throwing...

i know full well it will be hard tot rack down a 100 poison weap. Also im wondering because of the tile penalty for distance. because it drops ur hci, would it be best to do it close and without swordsmanship?

Lets see... the penalties are the opposite of what makes sense im pretty sure, so Long Distance is DI and Close distance is HCI.

So, since in training you usually want to do less damage, you'll want to over-throw it.

I was disappointed when I learned the throwing was going to be limited to Gargoyles. I thought I was going to be able to throw spears and such.

To work throwing, enter the Abyss at the beach enterence...go all the way in till you reach Garamon and trun left then left again...get up on a ledge and start throwing a Boomerang (there fast) throw at either the Acid slugs or the Slime's.. just keep throwing till you GM. Try and use a Boomerang that has spell channeling so you can work spells at the same time. Be sure you keep an eye out for the Gremlin, he likes to sneek up on you and use you as a target. Good luck!

IM guessing you can, I only took it to GM killing Acid slugs.

That would be terrific, but you'd have to go and manually retrieve the spear. Maybe a harpoon on a tether that you can reel in? It would be great for fishing.

maybe down the road they will add some weaps like that, throwing spear, throwing axes, daggers, etc

You actually would have to do that for these throwing weapons... It's pseudo-physics at best, if the weapon hit the target with any real force, it wouldn't have enough kinetic energy to return to the thrower.
Best you could get for a returning weapon would be exterior slices, which would be rendered ineffective by... anything tougher than cloth.
(and there's no way anyone could throw with enough precision to nick the gaps in the armor either)

I would have preferred that they just used the "It's magic" line, since everything already is in UO anyway.

ok just started working throwing... is it just me or is it really freakin slow? im using a boomerang, a 2 sec weapon, should be swinging max and it seems way slow... compared to say a bokuto or something which is also a 2sec weapon.

Going along with my gargoyle thread... has anyone seen anything mentioned by devs for a throwing fix in a future publish? between the slowness and the hci crap, i have to agree with everyone...skill is garbage.

I'm pretty sure Slugs have around 80 wrestling, so you might need to start them when you hit 65ish and you might be better off when at 70, but they should be able to get you to 100 easy and at least 105 with no trouble. They damage weps pretty fast though. Golems will get you to 120 easier depending on how much wrestling they have when they spawn.

To get a 100% poison weapon try to kill some fairy dragons. I got two from them, they give some high intensity loot. I worked throwing up to 115 w/ a 100% poison boomerang (use 120 swords if you intend to throw at melee range).

I like this way too, the slimes (first spawn from entrance) have 25-30 skill and will get you to 65. Then I move to the acid slugs that have 80 skill (Ive trained up to 110 but i think you could get close to 120). And ya that gremlin is sneaky.

    Best way I have found:

Buy to whatever, go to underworld. Throw at the grabbing tentacles in that one area, work to 80 or so. Then head down to the bottom of khaldun and the tentacle there..throw to 120 easily. can also 120 tactics and anat at same time.

Thanks for all the helpful responses, i started training it last night and was moving..well..ok, slow than most melee skills, but its because throwing is just plain slower. After seeing this for myself, i stopped working it around 60 and don't think i'll bother with it again unless it gets some sort of revamp. its too slow compared to its counterparts, and the awkward "realism" penalties are not seen in any other fighting skill in the game.
