Looked through T-Hunter guide, Mining skill etc.

No mention of how many 'tiles' your mining skill buys you for finding chests.

I believe it scales at some rate but need to know where the break points are for skill buildling. I'm not going to 100 mining but is a break at 80? LIke 4 tiles at 80, 5 tiles at GM?

I don't remember and, of course, our horribly documented game has no information. This should be at LEAST listed under the mining skill as it is a benefit to having mining.

EDIT: OK www.uotreasurehunters.com to the rescue....

For those that don't know - here is the answer:

    Mining Area Covered

0 You must be within 1 tile from the treasure chest
51 You can be 2 tiles away from the treasure chest
81 You can be 3 tiles away from the treasure chest
100 You can be 4 tiles away from the treasure chest

So 76 skill locked with +5 mining gloves (imbued) for my thunter.

    Re: UO/Stratics Failed me again

Yeah, several of us have been looking for that. Ok, I haven't been looking but hoped you would find it :)

What your saying sounds about right to me from recollection.

    Oh, thanks for the link!

That's very good information, but... Sounds like you've got a bit of a chip on that shoulder.

Stratics is a contributed site. Have you considered contributing your information in a web presentable form, or were you expecting everyone else to do that work for you?

    Re: UO/Stratics Failed me again

How am I supposed to figgure out this formula? Gain .1 at a time and test t-maps?

Please. This should be listed under mining at www.uo.com. It isn't.

Game is 12+ years old. Surely some lackey at some point in its 12 year existance could have taken the info from the code and posted it.

No wonder UO has such a hard time keeping new players....lol

Get an intern for $6/hr and have them update the website. 4 solid weeks and it would be 500 times better.

How many community managers did we have that couldn't get this accomplished over years of paying them?

I had an email exchange once with one of them about 'just wait, big changes to www.uo.com'. Well, the only big change has been a splash screen trying to sell subscriptions. Skill info is still extremely weak.

That's pretty much how all of the Stratics data was collected. Trial and error and repeated attempts to find those break-points.

Also... I am wondering if the +5 Mining gloves will really work on the T-map distance. I guess it depends on whether the skill check looks at real or modified skill.

    Re: UO/Stratics Failed me again

Ask not what they can do for you. Ask what you can do for them :)

The info re mining distance was released (maybe in the patch notes) when treasure maps were introduced, but if it is not in the UO playguide, I guess Chrissay didn't manage to get around to update it before she was let go.

Post title is a bit harsh, but kudos to the OP for looking it up and sharing!

hehe no, confession time, that wasn't there last night, I added it after Dizzy posted the link to the old FAQ in fishing & treasure hunter forum.

I am trying to get the site upto date, sadly I'm not omniscient, but I'm doing the best I can.

In all fairness to Theo_GL, I think Petra added that last night after this thread came up. All fixed now though!

Honestly, since extremely few actually searched for the treasure map locations - and the rune libraries take you right to the spot - this info has not been needed for ages...

*sighs* I see she types fast too! :)

    Thanks Petra.

Anyone want to guess how long it will take EA/Mythic to update www.uo.com? I'm betting on never.

Thanks for the range info; was looking for it also!

I remember I eventually removed mining from the char because it was too insignificant for digging the chest...

Did it mention that the person who decodes the map must also be the digger? Seems silly to me

Don't know if it is relevant, but I just tried t-hunting on char without mining skill. Clicking my shovel over the green grass, I came upon a tile that gave ore. I mined it for about 12 ore before it ran out. There was no rock or rock-like graphics anywhere around. I never found the chest, and was wondering if the "active" tile on the grass was the treasure location, but because I had "0" mining skill, the chest didn't pop. Has anyone dug up a chest since the patch with "0" skill? BTW the char had 100 cartography skill at the time.

man i would have been happy with any other time sink then sitting around targeting every single tile to see if a chest pops..

a quest per map.. a cool down period.. anything..

some cool changes they have added.. but its all for naught if im trying for ten minutes to find the right spot.. more frustrating than anything

To mine the map you need to double click the shovel then target the map, or click the map once and 'Dig map' or something, Can't remember the exact phrase.

With 0 mining you will need to be targeting the exact tile where the chest is, So it's really ideal to have GM mining.

Thx for the advice, Mapper. I remember the first day of lumberjacking was a prb for me too. Guess I deserve the frustration for not reading the directions first lol.

The game can be quite complicated, It's just a shame you have to visit fansites to get the information that should be on UO.com.

So anybody wondering if you still going to be doing these randomized treasure maps after your 50th-100th one checking coords? Or do you beleive it be worse than before?
