I think it is time we address the ever increasing disparity of wealth.

Yes, its time to increase gold from loot. Starting with mongbats should give out 10k checks, earth elemental should be giving out 200k checks and so on and so on

High end players don`t even loot monsters, so this won`t affect them, plus the new players will be able to get there survival funds easier.

Also I think its time that the gold taken away from vendor fees should be available to those less fortunate.

Since councilor halls no longer have a use they should be transformed into welfare offices. After providing proof of citizenship to there respected lands, an amount not to exceed 3 million per Sosarian week will be dispersed.

Also the cost of housing has gotten out of hand, so I think its time we open up the wasted space in Luna for low cost, minority friendly housing.

I think we should also abolish insurance costs. They are unfair to unskilled players. Instead, a check payable for 500k per death should be awarded upon rez of said player.
At the same time, chars gear should be instantly and fully repaired at death.

Supreem already said they were going to increase the gold on mobs in the HoC. Dont know when but thats what the plans are.

  4. Why dont you just sell some stuff and stop complaining.

Go grab some new loot and sell it.

The economy is fine. Just pretend there arent a lot of zeros.

I include myself as a zero.

Ok, on the count of three, everyone throw all of their gold into trash barrels.

    One . . .

    Two . . .

Ignoring the issues will not make them go away.

It is also time to put an end to the illegal gate travel crossings.

For too long Gargs have been crossing into our lands, with out proper papers, and using there advantages to slay our people.... and they take our jobs.

Its hard for Sosarians to compete economically these days, im just asking for fair, balanced changes.

While we're at it, let's give ever new account insta-skill tokens that will automatically raise your skill to 120. Not for all skills, mind you, just things like Discordance, Taming, Ninjitsu, etc.

This is a good start, I think we should abolish the skill cap on new accounts, say 10 years and under. The unfair advantage that experience brings vets make it imposable for newer players to compete.

That wouldn't be fair. You'd have to abolish skill caps for everyone, then automatically raise everyone's skills so that they are even to the player who has the highest skill. This would create a level playing field.

It already isnt fair, its time we start taking care of our minorities. I don`t want an absolute removal of a cap, say relax it to 1200 for newer( under 10 years) players. And a stat increase to 400.

Also skill caps should be raised to 150 for newer players, including combat skills.

after reading all this I would like to add we also need to give out free aids greater heals and any other medical supply's for free to all new comers illegal or not.

the only skills that you should have to work for is camping and f/e those have to be taken off the board or you will not get my vote on any of this, and next term we will make sure ALL OF YOU are removed from the ballet boxes. :lick:

Why should newcomers take damage in the first place :stir:

We also need some kind of level system so that newcomers can judge their progress as compared to other players.

as long as and only if we can some how TAX only the 5 to 7 year plus vets they should have to pay for all the new players. we can call it a.. a....A hmm need something catchy how about we call it youth incentive donation. Rebuilding UO PROGRAM. I'll work on it.

I mean honestly the youth shouldn't have to work/fight for anything us vets should give it to them we should have to go out and fight and turn over our loot so they can bank sit and shoot the BS...

  14. what is the issue. Besides a bunch of zeros. You understand if you grab a Tangle, you can sell it for 10 million in a flash right?

    So what is the problem?

    Seriously give me an example.

  15. HECK, I agree, Why play? Just give everyone that signs on everything. That is balance babeeeee.

As a long time player of UO, though not a daily player, I know damn well, the economy is shot to hell. You clowns that defend it, are just sitting with kajillions in gold.......the economy is ruined and nothing's going to change it back.

I'd much prefer TAXES to support the well being of the Realm.

How would this TAXES be paid ?

Depending on the global wealth of the account assessed by the server both calculating the total gold possessed whether in coins or cheques, AND also the value of the items possessed whether artifacts, rares, imbued or whatever.

That is, each existing item in the game would get an increasing value. Then all account's possessions would be assessed across all characters, all backpacks, all bankboxes, all secures in the House, everything.

This is done once per week during the servers down for maintainance.

Then we have tax brackets. The more the wealth, the higher the tax percentage (so wealtheir accounts get hit more as they have more wealth to spare with....). Gold is subtracted from the account.

If an account does not have enough gold to pay for taxes, items up to the taxes amount due get deleted at random.

Taxes would apply only for the time actually spent playing. Idle accounts, that is, would not be charged as much as accounts most always logged. This is to deal with 24/7 scripting accounts that stay online a whole lot of time as compared to accounts of actual casual players who only stay logged a few hours a week.

That's a system that I would see as fit.

There's no real answer to "Fixing" the economy, the issues that have inflated it to this point won't go away. Sure they can get rid of dupes, and other artificial means of acquiring gold, but those have little real impact on the games economy. They do have short term spot effects but you know what discounting Siege and possibly Mugen the economy on all shards has inflated drastically and Duping isn't the reason I promise.

What duping did is give a select few players an economic advantage, it didn't sway the entire economy of the game. The fact that the game has a unilateral flow of currency has. Gold comes in much much faster than gold goes out. Sure gold shifts from player to player, but each day more probably is introduced into a shards economy through legal means than flows out of the shards economy in a 2-3 days. This trend has happened for going on 14 years now. Yes before insurance the in/out rate was better balanced, but it had to maintain a higher influx in order for players to build some wealth.

What's happening now, is there is so much gold that it has reached a point of devaluation. Gold simply isn't worth as much as it was 10 years ago. Us from an outside standpoint have more trouble realizing this because UO's economic model is so different than what is in effect in our daily non-virtual lives. You see in the real world we have "Gold Sinks" Countries regulate the amount of currency in circulation in order to attempt to stabilize the value of their currency, in UO we have no such balancer. What's happened in UO isn't that duping, higher loot dropping monsters, ect. have ruined the economy the rate of flow out of the economy has decreased.

Now we're going to have to accept the following as being either true or the opinion of many players...

    1. No one wants "their" gold forcefully removed from their possession
    2. No one accurately knows how much Gold other players have, in general.
    3. Gold matters not, it's what you can buy with it that matters. Supply and Demand aggravate the issues.

This only leaves one good solution, instead of watering down the value of Gold further, you need to increase the supply of commodities players are buying with that gold and let the laws of commerce bring things back into balance.

If instead of there only being 2-3 120 magery scrolls available on a shard at a given time there were always 10-20, players couldn't demand 12-15 million a piece for them. They would be constantly competing with someone else undercutting prices because there would be competition. Right now as long as desirable commodities are dropping at low rate boosting gold as loot will just let prices drive up. Increasing drop rates for things players want will drive prices down through competition. If a crimmy dropping was instead of a >5% chance more like a 20% chance they wouldn't hold the value they do. If Fel Spawns only dropped 115 and 120 scrolls the prices on those would lower as well. If a wider range of BoDs dropped top tier Runics, Vally Hammers wouldn't be 20+mil a pop. People would sell at lower prices because the commodities would be loosing value not gold.

    ** Good Example **
Thinking back, remember when "The Six" part of the story arc happened, the arties etc that were dropping devalued because there was a short term flood of them on many shards. This is a result of exactly what I was talking about. More availability = lower prices.

Factions suddenly became extremely popular with the introduction of Faction Artifacts, they circumvented the rarity aspect by creating a ready cheap supply of a commodity players already wanted.

So thats a no i take it?

  25. and still what is the problem with the economy?

Inflation. That really doesnt matter in a game.

YOU SEE, you all can sell an item for inflated prices. ARGH.

    You just dont understand.

    FINE FINE...

Inflation does matter in a game because even virtual economies fall subject to the laws of economics.

Not this case. It would matter if you were a worker in Uo and got paide by the hour whiout a raise. But in ultima you are a business owner and can sell the items you optain at the going inflation rate making your income = to the inflation. The problem is when supply and demand fails and game mechanics make items less useful. When this happens the items can't be sold at the inflation rate and are stuck at a garbage rate. The items are then abandon. When too many items are abandon and left useless from the game mechanics then we have deflation of value of items in a inflated uo. This is what has occured in UO. Though as there are some items still going with the current inflation rate then those are what must be marketed. making Uo economy better is by giving more usefulness and desirability to items and resources that were deflated because of game mechanics.

  29. Nah, virtual economies have things like ever spawning items. NPC with old prices. New items appearing monthly. Real cash purchases for ingame items like from EA store. UO is nothing like real economy where there is a cost for creation. We just get and trade gold for items. Items for items essentially.

Inflation doesnt matter. 1 gold, 1 million gold... if the game has nothing to buy or reason to buy, that might hurt the game.

What really matters is that any player at any time can sell an item for market price.

AND AND not one player or players can control a resource.

UO has everything available to anyone at anytime.

I think I just threw up a little. Between the IBD thread and this one. Wow.

Insurance is SCALED BASED ON HOW THE GEAR IS VALUED and is perfectly fine the way it is for newbie. And a check of 500k if you die? God, how easy mode do you guys need this game to be?

    People took this seriously?

Yes, it was a troll. A troll that was meant to encourage debate and hopefully, for people to look at themselves... and I did it for the lulz

Also, people need to remember, this is a game.

You shouldn't be stressed over a game.
You shouldn't lose sleep over a game.

Honestly, I love having a considerable amount of gold. Nothing can fix the economy, ever.

The best we can hope for is somebody to buy the IP and all rights to the Ultima franchise, and UO2 to finally happen.

You had me hooked this far

The answer to fixing the economy would be less inflation - not more

if earth elements dropped 200k checks - they would loot em too, at least untill the economy completly derailed due to this idea :p

Vendor fees is one of the major things that helps limit the inflation.

as far as i am aware every shard has, or will get in decent time an EM making counselors hall useful.

This might be valid on atlantic, but nowhere else.

misread.. i rather not comment on this after reading it properly

This thread started off pretty funny, in a bizarre way. There's been a lot of tension lately. Sometimes, it's good to release tension through humor. It's a shame some folks tried to turn it into a serious argument. I don't think it was intended to be.

    Nope.

The minimum is 10 but the final cost is dependent on mods. For example, a Conjurer's Garb w/ MR 2 DCI 5 is 136 gp per, while a Conjurer's Garb w/ MR 2, 140 Luck, DCI 5 is 276 gp per death. A plain, no mod GM crafted robe is 10 gp per death. They all weigh 3 stones ;P.
