I've been gone from UO for 10 years. If I decided to reactivate my account tomorrow, what would I need to know in order to not be overwhelmed with all of the changes I would encounter?

Its a whole new game. I would read the boards here and use uoguide those are really your best bets. I did something like that and its the whole learning curve again but there are better out of game resources to get you started so its not to bad. Its still fun and its more complicated then it used to be.

Your first big challenge will be trying to figure out how to reactivate. Then when you get in game interacting with people should be the best way to get reaquainted with the new stuff. Good luck.

    Tarsistant,

I too just came back to this game after being gone for six years or so.

I am enjoying it now as much as ever, but it is true there is A LOT to learn.

May I suggest you do what I have done… combine your time between doing what you used to do with the equipment you have (immediate fun) and researching the new items and places that you have missed since leaving (not as fun).

For me, I got right back into treasure hunting with my bard. This allowed me to reprogram a lot of macros and evaluate a lot of the new weapons… although I should say… treasure hunting is a lot hard now that the treasure maps are not as easily found without mining.

This has been a problem for many people. I helped over 100 players get back up to speed over the years, and I know others have tried just as hard to do the same thing. On Chesapeake, some of us got together and found a way to overcome this tedious and only partially effective technique. The 'Oasis Project' is a new town specifically made to train, equip and even help find guilds for people who are new or returning. After training in Haven for example, you go to Oasis and can ask any questions you like, or leave a request on the board at the mayor's office. Patrons have donated materials, equipment and supplies to help get people back on their feet. A place is being set up where all the guilds can be represented in one place. Lists are being voluntarily made of returning players so they can locate their old friends easier.

Chesapeake is a pretty friendly shard, and as much as we welcome players, bumping into them at random is not easy. I have met as many as 4 players in one day who returned that week to 'look around'. If we can make Oasis a place where new people go, then they are much more likely to stay. The first building was placed a month ago and 'opening ceremonies' are planned for the end of May. Up to 3 players a day have come to Oasis for this help that I know of, and guilds are starting to send returning players there, so it seems to be working. Everyone who has seen this place so far, that I know of, really seems to like the plan.

So if anyone is returning to Chesapeake. look for Oasis. If you can't find a rune, it is the South West group of little islands in Malas.

The "Oasis Project" sounds much like a "Temp Agency" lol... Sounds good though.
