To the Governors: Kattasrophe, Morgan Ironfist, Sam, Kelmo, York and The Gooch.

It has been a while since we have seen to an auction on Siege. So I am making to proposal/challenge to the 6 governors listed above. If you can form a committee for an in game auction within a timely fashion (a lil over 7 weeks till new election). I would donate 2 mil for the town trade deal of each governor that participates in forming/running an auction. I will donate a house teleport (charge-able type) for the auction and the gold off it could be divided between the participating governors for trade deals in their towns. Also if a auction can be formed, and at the beginning if they wanted to entertain guests with a small contest amongst themselves, I would donate a further 2 mil to the winner's town for a trade deal.

So that about covers it so what say you all?

    Respect,

    Baby Doll (I4NI) TB

I like the ideal Baby Doll, and about 6 months ago I thought about bringing one up for moonglow. The reason it got nixed was because pk's and thief's were an issue. There was no way of running it, that i could find that would offer security to the buyers and sellers. I have no problem with running an event where the loss is mine, but i wouldn't want to take in some items in for the auction and they are stolen or taken by a pk.
Unfortunately we just can't trust some players to keep a truce.. note all the bank stealing lately...

Uncle Sham ran a successful auction off forums... however it was only on forums and from my understanding he couldn't get a hold of some players to finish the trade.

I disagree, York. I think additional steps would need to be taken for a successful auction here on Siege but i think its totally possible.

I sent a brief idea i had of how we can make this work to Babydoll. Any other Governors who would like to attempt this, or talk about ideas that may or may not work, let me know and we can meet up and discuss it further.

Minoc doesnt have very many donators so i would gladly do what i can to help out if it would result in funding for a trade deal.

Actually I think there is a simple way of doing this.. Take a screen shot of the items that are not blessed send it to stratics.. Keep the unblessed items in a bank box. after the auction is over and is time to pay for items and give the items to their new owner take them someplace safe open the bank box up and give them their item. And Miss Baby Doll! You are one person to cherish! *hugs her* The citizens of Moonglow will forever be in your graces.

Live auctions are certainly possible, I believe it is just a matter of the correct organization. We have had them here on Siege in the past in special auction houses that have secure rooms with teleporters. I believe that when a successful bidder wishes to claim their goods, they go and get the required money and then come back and are accessed to the secure area. They hand over the payment and then receive the item(s). After that, they go to another secure room from where they can gate to the location of their choice. In addition, you have a few security guards present ready to kick and ban anybody who tries anything nefarious. If desired, it is also possible to set up a secure area for the auctioneer, which allows the lots to be displayed prior to each auction. Actually, Gilfane Arena was designed to be able to conduct auctions in this way, and I would happily volunteer it for use unless anyone wishes to build a purpose facility.

The larger problem with a live auction is the number of people you can get on for the event, given the relatively low population at the moment and the fact that only a certain percentage will be able to make whatever time is decided. A forum auction would certainly be better from that point of view, but the way around that is to allow advance bids. Again, I am happy to organize that side and the auctioneering unless somebody else wants to.

I well remember the last live auction we had here, it was in a special auction house at Umbra. I forget the name of the organizer, but he was a teenager, and one of the promotions he had was a sweepstakes in which you could buy a numbered book and at the end of the auction, a random winner would be picked. Anyway, I think there were about thirty books sold, but presumably he had not covered statistics at school yet because he chose to use a lucky dealer to roll three ten-sided dice to generate his "random number". *laughs*

But that aside, the auction was handled well and I don't recall there being any security issues.

I had a similar idea as hoffs with a secure room off to the side with secure entrance. Tracker/Detector and someone who can gate with a vendor. Who ever wins the item will be given access into a private room to purchase off a vendor. Once the transaction is over open a gate to the bank or destination of the buyers choice. No need to carry checks or anything if its done with a vendor. Once the buyer has left restrict their access to the buy room to keep it secured.

I know you approached me this morning gooch about setting one up or helping you plan it out. Your timing was not idea, I will help support anyone that wants to set it up and run it. However, to me it's a risky venture on other shards but even more so on here. I just don't want the responsibility of loosing someone's item and that's why i would not want to run it. York can not keep large amounts of gold by the role play rule i wrote for him so i couldn't repay the player if it was lost. Not to mention there are far more qualified players that could run one. At least 2 or 3 guilds come to mind.......Good Topic Babydoll

Thank you Baby Doll for this option.
I have to call myself out for this unfortunately, since I will do some travelling next couple weeks, and won't be ingame much to set something like this up.
Furthermore is my European playing time not in line with the majority of the shard, so I would like it more if it was done to a peak-playing time.

But again "Thank you" and great idea!

I ran an auction, probably over a year and half ago now. Here was the setup I used and did not have any significant problems. It was a bit slow of a checkout process at the end. (My house was/is in guardzone).

Anyways what I did was hold the auction and track all the winners/high bidders. Then at the end, I would do each winning person one by one, placing a book on the vendor behind me priced for the winning amounts, the winner would buy it, then I friended to house so they could use teleporters to me and I would hand them the item(s). They could then gate/use the crystal porter to safely leave with the item. Then I would un-friend and next person with winning items would do the same.

    Hope it gets worked out.

Okay, so how about this proposal:

We hold a public auction to raise money for town funds. The actual auction would be held at Gilfane Arena and I would be responsible for organizing/running it. Town governors can assist if they wish, but their main responsibility would be in publicizing the whole event.

A commission would be taken on all lots sold, and in addition people could donate items for which all proceeds (less the commission) would be given to the their nominated town. People could similarly donate items in favour of York's vendor subsidy fund. All items submitted could be given a reserve price, although the auctioneer may reject items if the reserve price is deemed unreasonably high.

Private bids would be taken in advance to accommodate those unable to attend the live event, and the auctioneer would bid on their behalf just like a real auction house.

Following the event, the "accounts" would be published. The total commission received would be split equally amongst the seven towns with governors, and in addition each town would receive the gold (less commission) for any item donated on behalf of that town. York would also receive the proceeds (less commission) for any item donated in favour of the subsidy program. To avoid any accusations of embezzlement, the checks for each town would then be dropped, in the presence of an independent witness, directly on to the town herald.

The only problem with the above is that I could not hold such an auction until May (probably the 3rd/4th or 1oth/11th, assuming we have it on a weekend).

I went to another ingame auction awhile ago - I think it was on Catskills. Anyways, the auction house had a special/reserved section of seats with people's names on them that could be 'bought' before hand as sort of a reserve. I guess similar to buying a font-row seat in real life.

Just thought it was kind of a neat way to raise extra funds. I liked it anyway.

Hoping to attend if I can get back into the UO groove.

So, a few questions remain if we are to do this:

    a) What is a reasonable commission to charge sellers? 5%?

    b) What date should it be held? Weekend afternoons US (2 or 3pm Eastern) is the traditional best event time on Siege as it works for Europeans too. Both Saturdays or Sundays are possible, although my preference would be for a Saturday. As to exact date, for various reasons I would prefer the weekend of the 10th/11th of May, but it could be done the previous one if people really wanted that.

    c) Which cities/governors want to sign up for this? So far we have Kat/Moonglow confirmed. As posted previously, the role of the governor is just to help promote the event; you would not need to have any responsibility for the goods or the actual running.

Thanks for the replies and offers to help out. So we now have Jhelom, Minoc, Moonglow, New Mag, Skara, Trinsic, Vesper. Just waiting to hear from Britain.

As for the date, given there has been little comment on that, I will go with my preferred date which would be Saturday, May 10th at 3pm Eastern. Although this is quite late in the governorship term, if the auction is successful, the event could be repeated nearer the start of future terms.

I'll wait a couple more days for any last-minute feedback, then make an initial post about the event.

go reread the first post made by the op. Britain is not one of the 6 she is willing to help out.. she kinda of has a thing now for the bo ya know like your entire guild. As far as the rest of the posts bo hasnt read them so no clue what you all are trying to do. Not sure what you want the Bo to do? You want the bo to have the same trade deals as other towns or donate to your deals? Why whats the point?

*Crawls out of the EM Forum*

There seems to be some confusion about what a governor is and what is expected of them. I believe that the post quoted below from EM_Bennu on Atlantic sums it up nicely.

"There seems to be a bit of a misconception on the nature, purpose and procedure of the Conseil du Roi on Atlantic. In an effort to remedy any questions, concerns and give a general outline of what to expect, as well as what is expected.

#1: Rule Number One, the role of Governor is an In Character position. That means if you are a Governor, you are expected to role play the position and act as you would if your character were Governor.

If you are NOT a governor, but attend a meeting, it is asked that you remain in character as well, it will add to the overall feeling and flow of the Conseil du Roi.

The King will never, ever, ever break Character. What this means is, anything you say to the King is said to the King, and the King will answer, act and respond as King Blackthorn would, and should. If you say something to the King OOC, (Out of Character) at best the King will ignore you.

If you try and assassinate the King, you will be thrown in the moat. If Exodus couldn't kill Lord Blackthorn, you cannot kill King Blackthorn. He is beyond you.

#2: Your EM is NOT the King. The King is King Blackthorn, it is not your EM. Behind the scenes King Blackthorn is made up of at least 3 or 4 individuals. When you address the King, you are talking to all of them in the character of the King, you are not addressing your shards EM.

#3: Governors serve at the pleasure of the King both IC and OOC, if you cannot stay in character, constantly cause OOC problems in an IC environment, or fail to do your duty as Governor the King has the ability to replace you and will.

#4: Election Impropriety will be dealt with by the GM/DEV and Support Teams. It will also be dealt with In Character by the King. Any group attempting to disrupt, manipulate or destroy the Conseil du Roi will be dealt with severely.

#5: The purpose of the Conseil du Roi is not to decorate the towns or place trash cans at the banks. The King is not an interior decorator, nor is he a gardener, or a trash collector.

Governors may make *ONE* Large scale request per term to be considered by the King and his advisers.

If you are a Governor and are running a plot-line, shard wide event or something similar, the EM team *MAY* be able to assist or otherwise support you in a few small ways. These requests should be directed at the EM team, not to the King.

If you want a trashcan at your bank, ask Mesanna, not the King. <--- Per Mesanna.

#6: If you are not a governor, but wish to address the Conseil du Roi please speak with the Governor of your represented city and asked to either be called upon or have them bring up the matter themselves.

If you feel your governor is not up to the task, you may of course ask another governor.

#7: If you are called upon by the King to speak at the Conseil du Roi, you are asked to keep it 3 min or less, this includes Governors. 3 min x 10 Governors is 30 min, we must all be mindful of time. The Goal is to keep the meetings right at an hour or a little more.

#8: Trade deals, and how towns are governed are the business of the Governor and the Townspeople. But remember, the King is Monarch and as Governor you are an extension of the Crown. If asked to change something (like a curfew) you as Governor must comply, (or work around it).

#9: The Conseil du Roi is held the last Sunday of the month, every month at 8pm Eastern (4:30pm Eastern on Siege) in Castle Blackthorn (The Serpent's Hold Council Chamber for Siege). If something drastic happens then another meeting may be called during the month. Also, if for some reason the meeting must be canceled, it will be rescheduled.

#10: The Flow of the meetings:

A: The People Gather in the Council Chamber.
B: King Blackthorn enters, greets everyone and sits.
C: The Governors take their seats.
D: The King speaks, says anything he needs to say.
E: The King calls each Governor in turn to speak.
F: Each Governor has roughly 3 min to say what it is they need to say.
G: The King responds, the other Governors may say their piece.
H: At the end, time permitting the King may call on representatives from outside Britannia, ambassadors from Nujelm, Malas, Tur Mur, or one of the Races (Elves, Goblins, Orcs, etc).
I: Also time permitting, the King may call on petitioners who would like to speak to the Council. These people should be gathered in line in front of the table. The best way to get your voice to the King is still through the Governors.
J: The King Closes, says "Long Live Britannia!" the crowd says, "Long Live the King!" and the King departs.

#11: Remember, everything in the Conseil du Roi chamber is In Character. If the King is harsh with you, flirts with you, or otherwise gets your dander up, it is an In Character thing. The same is for the other Governors, the Governors are Role Playing, if they aren't they wont be Governors for long. Take everything on an In Character level.

#12: All Towns are equal in the eyes of the King. Moonglow is a center of education and learning, Trinsic is a stronghold and military powerhouse, Skara Brae feeds the Kingdom... every town is a piece of the success that is Britannia. There is no one city that the King holds above another.

#13: The Conseil du Roi is a way for you as a player to interact with the Fiction, Storyline and the community of Atlantic in a healthy and productive way. The Governors are known to run events, plot-lines, contests and games, all as part of their position as Governor to bring activity to their city. The King and the EM team will do whatever they can (within the rules) to support the events, plot-lines and activity within the cities.

#14: Remember that the Governor system and Conseil du Roi is a work in progress and is a VERY new system, we will all work together to make it enjoyable and productive. Britannia needs a King, the King needs his people, the days of an absent monarch are behind us.

#15: ALL Large (to the King) and small (to the EM team) requests must have an Role Play function or purpose, a great example is the Trade War we had first season involving several of the cities. Trinsic requested a small distillery for the duration of the plotline, it was granted. If you are requesting flowers around your bank because they look pretty, expect to be told no. If you are requesting a limited time change that fosters and supports your role playing as Governor or pushes the shard fiction and town interaction plots forward... we can talk about it."

Please note item #3 above. If a Governor is not participating (other than the election), then the governor can and will be removed in favor of someone who is participating. By participation - it includes at least some of the following (but not necessarily all - and can include other things): 1.) Attendance at Council Meetings. 2.) Participating in a trade-deal. 3.) Hosting player-run events in their town. 4.) Encouraging activity in their town. 5.) Supporting the Governor System in general. 6.) Etc.

If there are questions on this, please post them in the EM Forum.

As a citizen of Trinsic, I support this auction. I will get with my Governor and see how we can participate.

As a long time citizen of Siege Perilous, I think most folk see me as objective and with the ability to be fair, regardless of who I am hanging, running, or living with. And regardless of what the current official, and much less official political structure is. As such, if diplomat, courier or mediator is needed, I am available.

Allow me put forward the hypothesis that what is needed here is not more fighting, but the hand of friendship.

This offer, as it were, if presented without the blessing of office or knowledge of the governor of Trinsic, my husband. I act alone.

*Luka Melehan can be accused of many untruths. She is married to an opinionated Tro.... Governor. She is missing for months at a time. Perhaps her loyalties are not as they seem. Or perhaps she is loyal only to the Virtues. Or to the idea that the Avatar could live again*

*perhaps she is only naive.....a target to be taken advantage of. Or taken out*
