At what point should one begin making spellbooks for gaining?

I'm currently at 78.4, with 110 magery if it matters, and I'm curious as to when I should switch to circle 8, and then when/if I should switch to spellbooks.

Thanks. [IMG]

The Insription FAQ has the information for you to follow through each level to GM.

Well, with the Inscription FAQ containing no new information for upwards of three years, as well as the Updates to the FAQ thread containing none for two, I was merely curious as to whether or not anything had perhaps changed in regards to leveling, especially considering how quickly we all know UO evolves in terms of skillgain.

Pious 'RTFM' comments are pointless when a simple link, or otherwise legitimate answer can be given.

The FAQ is current. His answer was indeed legitimate.
Nothing has changed much in how we get skills gains over the years.
When you get to the 80's try your hand at spellbooks.
With 110 magery you may produce some good ones.
Turn in those you don't wish to keep to the Library.

Where is this library? And why should we turn the "worthless" books into them?

Do we get something for turning them in?

Sorry, I've been gone for about 8 years. Trying to relearn the game.

thanks

The Britain Library will accept donations of empty spellbooks.
In return you rack up points towards various rewards.

The Npc that accepts spellbooks is on the 2nd floor, at least on Atlantic it is.
Is that true on other shards too?

To become a contributor to the Library you must first do the Library Quest which starts with Verity. The Quest forum has a listing of quests and a link to uo stuff which is very helpful for a step by step guide. It also lists all the rewards available.

It takes a lot of books to get the high end things. But at least you can eventually get some return from all those unused books.

I went to UOStuff to read up about this library stuff and the info I'm looking for isn't there.

I'm curious to know what rewards are given.

How many spellbooks do I need to turn it to get something?

thanks for all your help

Each spellbook is worth 10 points...so it does take awhile.
And all the NPC's accept gold of course.

When you go to uo stuff under Gameplay go to Items.
From there go to Community Collections.
Scroll down and go to the Britain Library on the list of the 3 collections.
( Check out the other collections too. They need no quest to start contributing)
It will give you a list of each reward and the amount of points needed.
The lowest being 100,000 to the highest of 800,000.

The Mage is the NPC that accepts books. The glasses he gives as a reward for 800,000 points is the Wizard Crystal Reading Glasses +10 mana, mana reg 3, 15% SDI, with 5% to all resists.

Hope that helps you a bit more.

One word of warning regarding the library quest - there's a bug with the Petrus speckled scorpion poison sac portion. make sure you're able to complete this part within the allotted time period. You may want to pre-gather the 10 poison sacs BEFORE speaking with Petrus. Otherwise, the quest will fail, you won't be able to restart it, and there goes the library quest for that particular character.

I GM'ed inscription a few months ago using the FAQ, so it does work fine. BTW if Mr Mischief is the same one from the Napa Valley Shard, my apologies in being a scroll hog. I just needed a large number to craft either the Abyss super slayer or the demon slayer spellbooks for the upcoming Magincia invasion. I won't be recalling to all vendors and buying up their stock anymore! Leads to bad karma, crappy inscripted spellbooks, depleted bank account, and no demon slayers...

Lol. It's no problem dude, I bought some 25k scrolls last week to burn through. I only check Luna/Haven to see if anyone has driven them up so I can get a quickie spellbook stack. I don't like using my stockpile on spellbooks, it nukes them WAY too fast.

After all, I've gotta go from 86-GM after this character is done on another. :/

Just GM'd.

I used Nadia's log as a guide, from 90-GM I occasionally mixed in spellbooks, no specific areas, just whenever I decided to hit the towns to see if there were any bulk scrolls on vendors available.

I used close to 18k total scrolls from 0-GM, only about 12k on actual scrolls, the rest on books. With resale, you can probably GM from zero with very little cost so long as you don't make spellbooks, you can probably even make money.

Also, I used roughly 6k Bloodmoss, 6k Spiders Silk, 3-4k Mandrake Root, 3-4k Garlic/Ginseng, 2k Sulfurous Ash, 1k Black Pearl and probably another 2k Nightshade.

Of the ~6k scrolls I used on Spellbooks, I crafted only one Super Slayer, numerous other slayers, probably 50 in total, and an innumerable amount of various intensity Magery/Med/Eval/LRC/LMC/FC/FCR books, single property, double, few triple. This was done with 110 Magery throughout, I used no Talisman, as I haven't upgraded to ML.

Prior to leveling inscription I GM'd Focus to compliment my 110 Med, I highly suggest everyone else do this also, I didn't need to meditate a single time from 0-GM and still managed excellent mana regeneration. 11 LMC, 1 MR are the totals in my suit used.

Thanks for the info!

So did you mostly make BODBs from 90 to GM like in the FAQ? I wonder why the FAQ suggests BODBs instead of Spellbooks... both use 10 scrolls, no? Maybe because of the higher chance of success on BODBs?

You never needed to meditate? How is that possible... LMC does not affect scroll making so that cant be it. I have GM meditation and I had to meditate very often as I was making the flamestrike scrolls. Maybe every 3rd or 4th scroll I was meditating.

I didn't make any BODBs, I crafted 8th circle spells with the occasional Spellbook mixed in. As for never needing to med, I did find myself ABLE to plenty of times, yet with ~90 focus and 110 med, my normal mana regeneration was fast enough that I just didn't bother. Medding would probably quicken gains as you get to craft more frequently, though.

True, you can't use regs to make spellbooks, BUT you can turn in regs INSTEAD of spellbooks. Thus 1.6mil in regs < 4mil in scrolls for spellbooks.

However in the course of that 80k of spellbooks you will see many a superslayer which will in turn make you many millions of gold peices [IMG]

The return on investment on scrolls is huge when making spellbooks. Seriously you can make an absolute killing..I love it :p

Yeah so far I have raked up 30k points at the library in donated spellbooks- so what's that- 3,000 spellbooks?

In that time I have created 3 repond slayers, 2 elemental slayers and 1 demon slayer. they alone more than cover the cost of all the scrolls required for 800k points.

The worst part of this process by far though is the sorting of books when done. I usually just drop 300 blank scrolls into a separate bag at a time and just click Make LAst Item until I either run out of scrolls or the pen breaks. Then I restock my bag/replace pen and do it again until it says my backpack cannot hold any more items.

Then I drag each spellbook into one corner of the bag so they stack one on top of another and while doing this I watch what properties the book has, and any super slayers or interesting books go into my bank. THis right there is the most annoying part. Dragging those books repeatedly is a carpal tunnel syndrome's dream.

Then when I donate I can just position that stack of books right under the little blue circle so I don't need to do any mouse movement just click like a madman
