If i leave a mare cornered off in a house in fel and a cu in another pen a few tiles away, and let my mare attack it, can i leave and go do other things?
Or do i need to stay and watch?

I figure the mare wont kill the cu and they wont be able to reach each other.
I know people do this i just dont know if they can leave or if bad stuff can happen
    Any suggestions?

    Thank you
    - James

I wouldn't recommend it, but not for the reasons you think ;)

Firstly, never leave your pet unattended somewhere while it's training skills. A GM can be called on you and take action on your account. And in Fel you have the added risk of a passing player attacking your pets.

It's also frowned upon to pen animals in your house while you're actively gaining skill, or they are, so again you might have a problem with the GMs.

What I'd suggest you do instead is look at the stickied pet training guide and follow the advice in there instead for training your pets. It's all still relevant and you won't be visited by a GM :)

But either way thank you so much for responding!

If they're penned and not doing anything, and neither you or the pets are gaining skill, then you should be fine because you're not gaining anything by doing that. For example, if you dropped a pet in a pen while you sort out hunt loot. But once they're gaining skill, or you are, you're in iffy territory. Nobody might see you, or go on and page, but it's one of those things I think you need to be aware of then make an informed decision on. A lot of players tend to page first and think second these days ;)

I just cant see why that would be against the rules. I dont think anyone could exploit this in any way. That could just be me being inexperienced but i dont know. Thank you for the advice on the trainer it seems like it would be more fun really hunting anyway.

    Thank you

There is a better way to train pets: shadow elementals. Either dig one up, or lure one to the entrance of the Yamotsu mines. Because pets cannot damage shadow elementals, pets can train indefinitely on a single elly.

In order to focus on your mare's magery skill, let another pet tank, cast energy fields between your mare and the elly, tell your mare to attack the elly, then tell your pet to stay. As long as another pet is tanking the elly, your mare will sit there and cast on the elly indefinitely, even when the energy fields dissipate.

    Thank you!

I'm not only trying to do magery though, will this help the tanking pets skills as well?

Go to siege perilous forum and ask SP! to guide you in pet training LOL...They can train pets to full stat/skills (including magery) in 10 hours...Funniest sh*t i've heard this year, but the year is young yet ROFLMAO!!! Oh btw, if you believe this training to be true, i can sell ya a 15 year account too LMAO

  9. Its not necessary to pen pets you can just tell them to stay and they will continue to cast.

I have tried that and it doesn't seem to work, but I'll figure it out that's not the first time I've heard that. I think i must be doing something wrong.

    Thank you

Just sick your pet on the shadow elly. Every skill will raise, save for magic resist.

*coughs* everything you need is in this thread :)

If you stick to casters at the right melee levels then you should only have a few skill points to train by the time melee is done. And I'm maybe the only one who still loots lesser monsters, but I tend to find I make a really nice profit when I finish training a pet. If you want honor on your tamer, you can include that too. And well, just explore with your pets :)

Discoed pets gain much faster especially at high skill levels.
The only maybe exception is Magery since Disco lowers Med.

it was stated a while back that if you have 2 pets in a pen cast spells at each other, it isn't against the rules, since they are doing damage against each other.

A Mare will teleporte if there is room in the cu pen, so a i guess a dead mare :(
But that only gains at best the mares magic skills.

Eaiser to Train resist via a pen'd pet and have some one cast clumsy on them, it's like having 2 moving ships, pets can't tele to a moving ship :)

I'm only training the mares magery the cu was just an example , i thought the cu would be a good choice because it could maintain its own health and i wouldn't have to have it tame. But thank you!

    Hi JamezC,
If you just want to train the mare's magic skills, how about a one tile pen, either a gate or a tele tile, have the mare stay out-side, while you enter the pen! :D
That way you may cast what you like, with no phy dammage :)
May have to take a wee mana dump from the mare, so healing youself aint that bad, might want to cast Protection 1st, so no spell interruption.
Just cast clumsy for magic resist gains.

As with the Cu and a mare i see what you saying, the cu heals whith gains in healing and a little magic resist, while the mare gains all the magery skills.
But even if bonded i would not leve them unattended, you never know.

well there is an even easier way to train magery on a pet, mare or other, just go to the twisted weald, wait for the swoop to fly and stop on the rocks where your pet cant touch it and then say all kill.

Your pet will attack only with magery and GM all 3 skills : magery, eval int and meditation.

With a couple of pets with high magery level the swoop should die after a while, but with just one pet, you won't be able to kill it.

That's good for the training part, but not very nice for other people who would like to kill the swoop.

So I do it usually when there's nobody around and I stop if someone comes and wants the spot.

Of course I'm on Drachs, it's not very populated and it's easy to have the spot.
I don't know how it would go on a more populated shard.

Hmm Not where i play, but i must say 99% of the peps who i have met at the Twisted Weald are very nice. I never bring my tamer there to train (gave up on trying to tame a good colour CU, so went back to human form) :)

Last time i hit the Snoop, it was with my sammy warrior and i was surprized by the courtesy from all who were there.
Was a case of wait in turn, Ok the tamer's pets ate it and when it flyed off to the mountains, they ate it and 1/2 the mountain as well.

Ok my turn :) 110 swords, 120 sammy (a Guift) 110 anat and tactics, with a 2 hand wep and using Chiv CW i do like 4 good hits (dex 180) almost dead :)
then the darn bird heads up the weild at full fly mode, Grrrrr.

Well the darn bird got stuck on a mountain, no magery, or chiv that chould shift it i had :( i, waving a big sword made it worse.

Up's comes a tamer who says if it's ok to kill it?
i Aggre and vola 1 less snoop, but when i returned to the circle Of Snoop Killers, i was imformed that i could go next as the last one diddent count as my turn.

Not only that, after i plucked my new snoop, the tamer who had killed my stuck one, dumped some gold and stuff at my feet, said was loot from last snoop?

I think if you play fair, most players will do also.

I wasn't really planning on training the cu, just using a wild one that could keep itself healed as the mare mana dumped on it.

But the shadow ore elementals and the guide posted above have been just generally working very well so I'm going that route.

    Thank you all though!
