C'mon , the being ambushed thing is kinda silly especially if you're being ambushed by 4 of them. Definitely needs a look IMHO

I agree. Let's spread them evenly, all over the place. Wa?

All I'm saying is getting hit for 35 X 4 despite your armor makes no sense.
Go test it yourself instead of trolling

Have you been there? I agree the area needs to be looked at doesn't matter if your max resist with 120ed skills, and a slayer those spiders are wicked alone and even worse in a pack.

The snake thing "ketplesh ambusher" or whatever I hadn't seen in a while. I only see "ketplesh" things. But the ambusher is really the same deal. They just appear and deliver a fairly hard hit. The hits are in the 35 range and wearing a 70s suit doesn't seem to matter. Not to mention the char that I tested this on has 120 parry and 120 bushido with 45+ DCI....

It wouldn't be bad if there was just one of them. 2 even. 4 is just obnoxious and should be looked into

  7. ummm.... seems you should be a little more prepared. That's like going into central dungoen... Should they fix it so we can walk in and have a picnic?

Not trolling. Simply stating one tactic which works well for me when outnumbered (screaming like a little girl adds to the fun). I think most players when outnumbered will retreat and try to take out the mobs in smaller numbers or not bother with the fight. While I can't recall the last time I was jumped by 4 of them, I have had the pleasure of 3 at once (many times) and don't ever recall being hit for 35 by each one. In the very least, I'll retreat, heal, and take them out one at a time.

In your original post you made no mention of what armor, mods, or template you were on. Adding more detail would be beneficial to the discussion I think you were hoping to have on the subject matter.

Alea mentioned maximum resists as well as 120 skills and a spider slayer. I am curious if this is on a warrior or a mage? I have taken these on with my pally and don't usually run into major problems with them. Healing is at 100 and chivalry is 85.

It has been a while since I have battled these critters so I am going to go give it a whirl and see how many I can get to spawn and attack at once.

Nah, I have to disagree. No second look is needed. I think the ketplesh ambushers, trap door spiders, and for that matter the raptors are some of the best artificial intelligence additions of the Stygian Abyss expansion. It forces to people to rethink and learn some new strategy. And not assume just because you wear high resist armors and carry a uber weapon you should be invulnerable to everything. Or for that matter that one fighting strategy works all the time.

Learning to actually "listen" for the ketplesh was a nice new addition. And not just charging into an area to draw all the trap-door spiders to you at once. And yes I fight them all the time in ordinary npc armors with no resists higher than 40. Maybe the point is to take it slower in that area. Rather than running around drawing all the stealthed trap door spiders to you. And again "listening" is your friend. You can even walk thru avoiding them without seeing them :). All are easily defeatable if you don't constantly rely on the "same old same old" fighting strategies.

Maybe it's your tactic in dealing with them that needs to be looked at? I've happily hunted them for some hours, and while I've died occasionally when I got a bit careless, overall I do fine.

Yes, please, let's make sure that every cook and basket weaver can safely hop and skip throughout the broad lands of Sosaria without fear of breaking a nail or tripping on a daisy...

It's a little dangerous, it's a little fun, to quote someone's signature, roughly, "Can we please have a little danger?" Learn, adapt, and be happy that not everything in this game is sponge taffy on a sunny afternoon...

I believe the initial trapdoor spider ambush attack does direct damage, bypassing resists. not sure if they hide in groups or just summon more when they attack(like the raptors). they also have little to no phys resist but near 100 energy.(note when ur in an area with alot of them running is usually a bad idea)

the only attack i find annoying is the ketplesh vicious wound, lasts a long time when it hits(sorta like stangle, but much longer). does direct damage too i believe, the last few ticks keep hitting for 50. these would drop an ogre lord 1 on 1 but have less loot/fame than a lizardman it seems.

If I wasn't able to handle 4 Trapdoor Spiders, I'd try to improve my skills and equipment, or be more careful when going into that area, but I'd not ask for easier monsters.

Why is it......when an answer or reply is given, that is not to someones liking....it's called "trolling"....(which is a lame sounding word to begin with)

You make a post about being had by some spiders. It's part of the game.
I don't post when some paragon running at mach 22 chases me clear across the lands.....

Either don't go there, or face the consequences when you die. Ranting just shows persona........this balance/overpower mind thought is for console players.

  20. My imbuer was out trying to kill them and I tried EV's but they just killed the EVs. However I was out with a summoned earth elemental guarding me when attacked by one recently and while it killed the earthie I cast an EV and it seemed to take out the trapdoor pretty well while it was killing the earthie. I definitely don't have the theory for these and they recruit others and they are fast and hit hard and poison. I think I will try a summoned Demon next time.

  21. Aye and they should fix it so the damned gankers cant get me everytime anymore as well! I mean three at once would be ok but 4 and man thee fields those bastards throw up its just so not fair

it was the earthy that did it, EV's don't do hardly any damage. earthies r the best to use outside of collosus

Word, anyone who tells you to use EVs on them doesn't realize they have hella energy resist (max 100%). If you're on a mage w/ eval, best to cast para fields if you hear them. And if you hear them, you can also cast area spells like earthquake and you might reveal them.

  25. Ok cool. I will try 2 earthies the next time.

  26. My imbuer is a mage and has close to 100 eval and also inscription but I have never played a mage before. How does one utilize a paralyze field against a trapdoor spider? Do you cast one and hope they run through it or do you cast one and run through it when the attack you? If they get stuck then what do you do? I would be inclined to cast a couple earth elementals and let them do the killing but I am clueless even though I have played this game a long time and had a gm mage long ago, my magery skills are nill because I used to lag so much I couldn't target anything.

Well para field will trap the spiders which gives you time to heal initial sneak attack damage. I usually just cast a field near me when I hear the sound, then wait for them to reveal or reveal them first. Then, do fire based spells, maybe fireball. Shouldn't take much to kill them, but need to be careful if they poison you.

Earth eles would definitely work, as would a daemon.

Ambushier are fun as H*.. i walk not run around with Invis ready.. if i hear one i use Earthquake and it pop up like toast. i put puppy or draggy on it.. I hunt those for quest, and good fun. I make me really think and keep alert.

As for the spider, ya they suck but same thing.. i just have to stay alert. my only real bad moment was when i had 3 raptors on puppy and 2 spider pop out of ground.. sadly me and puppy died. i just ran back to holy city got rez, redress and went back for more.. lol ya i died like 3 or 4x total.. but man it was fun. :gee:

I love a little danger with my questing.

You think spider are nasty.. try 2 or 3 maddening horrors, 1 bad attituded hydra, and about 1/2 dozen or more assorted snakes that down right rude. Again fun as hades.. i have to remember 2 thing gift of life and plant a white tree seed in a "safer" place for rezing.

We all have gott flusterated when we cant kill stuff. You have to sit back come with a plan. Talking about plans, i am still in need of a good one for tamers and stygian dragon. (i doubt there is one. now where are all my arrows and whats a good bow to take. lol) :stretcher:

  29. Sounds good. I'll give it a try but they are fast and hide if you get too far from them. Need to work on the timing of casting fireball so I don't get hit and they don't loose interest and hide. My imbuer is also an alchemist so a greater conflagration potion might be good too. I can heal their poison with a greater cure potion.

But yet trammel is here and has been here for years....
Which means most of the opinions stated here the majority of players do not agree with

However the "tactics" spoken about here probably won't help since "hearing" them doesn't tell you where they will appear. If I have to spend time mapping an area to decipher wher they appear and where they won't , I can guarantee many will not play there. The Earquake issue only applies to those with magery. I'll atleast consider taking one with magery to that area

The idea is to make the game fun and playable. The percentage of people who are going to spend time having to adjust to the game in such ways as has been spoken about is few and far between... IMHO is good reason why Ultima Online is losing account and EA is losing money. I think it better to adjust the game for better playability then making the players change templates or create another char every time a new idea is brainstormed. Maybe playability should be part of the brainstorm process

    Kallie,

Trap-door spiders really don't like fire. A nice area effect fire potion, or perhaps a nice meteor strike targeting the ground where you think they are located. It often damages them even while they are hidden.

  33. Thanks.

    ???
    http://www.uoherald.com/guide/guide.php?guideId=41

Damages nearby targets with meteors that hit for fire damage split between the targets. if you only hit one target, the target takes between 52-56 damage, modified by intelligence, skills, etc. If you hit more than one target, the damage amount is doubled, and then divided amongst each target evenly.
    Reduced by elemental resistance

    Luc of legends,
I have had no luck with a tamer on the stygian Dragon. I have found that the best skill to have is a discorder. Our set up is two archers one with discord. Bow's that we use are normal bow for paralyse and composite bow for armor ignore. Once discorded neither of us miss. both bows are dragon slayer with high mana leach and swing speed. It takes the two of us about 20 minutes to complete. I have not gotten any of the new drops from the dragon but I do hope that they come up with a use for the dragon head, I have alot of those. Hope this helps

Anyway the mage suggestion is a good one. I suggest mage / necro to pop off a quick spirit speak while being poisoned. Also as some have suggested the 100% energy resist makes EV's kinda pointless. My Bushido arachnid slayer weap was agapite so only 20% of that was energy.... Anyway a mage / necro with an arachnid slayer spell book seems to does this easily.

This spot , I seem to get 4 of them at one time. That may have been because of other circumstances such as running and the other monsters in the area I killed. Running around may cause more to come out. I dunno... Anyway, I was jumped last night in this area

    [IMG][IMG]

Not sure, just wanted some more carapace. But yes, running and hitting a meteor swarm w/the arachnid slayer is good medicine in that case.... Spirit speak for a quick heal while poisoned... obviously stuff a Bushido char would not have been able to do.

They seem to multiply as you continue to kill them, so that might explain the 4 on 1. However 4 "ambushes" that hit probably will mean u die since you'd be poisoned as well. Once again , not sure just theorizing

I seemed to draw 4 on 1 in this area as well
    [IMG][IMG]

Once again the arachnid or spider slayer, plus meteor strike once they "ambush" you seems to be good as you may be "ambushed" by multiple spiders. Hit spirit speak and arch cure...

Luckily I have 2 accounts this 5+ characters each with many different type play styles and items like an arachnid slayer spellbook..... I think EA should look into this for newer chars or more casual type players.

I've hunted them on different chars, but best fun was when I took my Siege thief down there with detect hidden, an earth ele and a water ele. Most fun I've had with detect since I trained it.

Sounds like fire ellies might be good here, though you can only summon one at a time (which is stupid).

The point of the meteor strike is to help find trap-door spiders. If you target the ground near a stealthed monster. The meteor strike will hit the stealthed creature showing you its location, also since the spell is fire based it will damage the spider. And as pointed out above there is a long list of equipment that can amplify the damage of that spell. Including but not limited too; slayer spell book coupled with spell damage armors, spell damage clothing and spell damage jewelry.

For warrior types I'd probably suggest spider slayer weapon with hit fire spell and maybe enemy of one and toss a conflagration potion just to be sure.

Just some tips not necessarily the only way to kill them. And running around in an area where there are known to be trapdoor spiders is not the best idea. Since you will attract more and more spiders as you ride around. And then when you stop they ambush and deadly poison you...OoOOooOoo. So take it slow in those areas and don't go charging in!!

Just a few tips to stay alive.
