Actually ive found a Very Easy way to pinpoint nearly exactly (I can usually find it within 3 Digs without Mining) where the treasure will be..

However, I am an self-centered, Greedy, Friendless individual... And require "Profit" from my Advice.

Got any Fencing 115s or Ninja Sot/SoAs? :thumbup1:

Get mining. Its pretty much impossible otherwise. With mining its not bad.

I just made a uoa macro to use item (shovel), target item (map), target relative location (2 tiles north of me). Spam the key

It's far from impossible without mining. Unfortunately, I don't have time to explain my method (which takes some practice and a little time but is worth the 100 extra skill in my opinion), as I'm at work right now. So once lunch break comes around, I'll post it! Free of charge. :)

Petra sent me a link to a neat way of doing it. it involved taking a screenshot of the location where the chest should be then enhancing it and putting uoam over it then plotting on uoam where it is and some other details. hard to explain and not sure if can post that link on stratics forumns. im headed to work now. when i get home ill get with ya on how to do it.

Ok, here's my method that I adapted from something I read on Stratics a long time ago:

Start by getting a general idea of where the location is. I usually try to line up two landmarks (such as a tip of an island, trees, inlets from the water, etc.) in UO Auotmap or even just the mini-map. One should be north or south and the other east or west so you can draw an imaginary line zeroing in on your pen.

I will position myself slightly above and behind where I think the pen is in westerly manner. I will throw a bandage or other marker down at my feet, which will be the starting position. Then I will start digging for treasure (speeds it up if you make an assist macro to click shovel>target map) moving in a straight line East for 10 or 12 spaces. When I reach that point I throw down another marker. Then I turn south and walk two steps, turn west and start digging up that way. Once I reach the line where the first maker is, I'll turn south again, walk two steps, and start back towards the east again. Keep going until you find it. If you don't find it in that square grid, then have another look at the map and adjust a bit. You won't have to worry about the parts you already marked out.

A quick note on trees and other obstacles, be sure to walk around them and get back in your current line. Not very tough but just a reminder!

After I had done it a few times it would take usually less than 5 minutes to find a location. With some practice it's really very handy but it's probably not for everyone since it actually involves searching. :p

If you would like me to show you in game, I can later tonight.

I've had 3 Maps where i have found the Chest on the First Dig without mining... Some of it was Luck but as I said, i can generally find it within 3 Digs, No mining.

    Everyone else is crazy

I've started using the accessibility options within Windows to zoom in to the pixel on the t-map. Works pretty well.

since I came back and started doing maps again, I have actually done about 40 maps. I don't have mining so I dig in grids.

I tried blowing up the screenies to help but it didn't.

When I am successful, I'm just pissed at how far I am from the spot the pin on the maps is actually pointing to. So I start about the same distance from the pin as all the rest, but it is all hit and miss...

Sometimes I dig forever and just give up.

I found that most of the maps on horseshoe island are right where the old ones were located and have been using my old rune library on those.

    train mining again? BURN

    here you go, Petra's method.
    Finding Maps

I didn't think it was 'scientific' enough to class as a proper Stratics guide, but it works for me.

    I have a system similar to Petra's.

I have a marker that is set to 1600% times the normal view.

The GIMP XCF version (similar to a adobe PSD file) can be grabbed here

And a tutorial on how to use GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP, a free graphic editing program) and UO Auto Map to find a treasure map location without mining can be found at Treasure Map How To

On a side note, these don't seem to be all that random. I've gotten some duplicate locations already. I started working on a collection of locations (file name for coordinates and picture of the map) which can be found here
