    Hail Sosarians,

I have walked the Lands of Sosaria since September of 1997. Knowing my role and playing my role has always been of upper-most importance to me.

However, my curiosity nibbles at me to pose the following two-part inquiry:

For both PvM and PvP, what are your views as to what template combined with stats, items, weapons, suits, tamed beasts, etc., will render the greatest damage-per-second, both in general combat and using slayer weps/books as appropriate???

In summary, what are your "doomsday machine" scenarios for a character or characters???

I thank one and all for your comments and views.

    An SoS

p.s. I posted this in the HALL rather than a PROFESSION forum as your views may suggest various Professions

It is possible to make a discord sampire. That is all that needs to be sad about PvM.

I bet a Bushido Archer or Sampire with enough taming for 5xFrenzied Ostards coupled with max EP and explo pots will out damage most other builds :gun:

Throw in discrod and your set.

A melee char who uses Vampire form from necro and a high leech weapon coupled with bushido for lightning strikes, confidence and weapon parry.

    Bushido
    Tactics
    Anatomy
    Parry
    Chiv
    Necro

A Sampire is an extremely-powerful hybrid warrior template, incorporating Necromancy, Weapon Skills, Chivalry, and Bushido.

It draws its name from the fact that they usually fight in Vampire form, using a Necromancy spell. Samurai Vampire is abbreviated to Sampire. The life leach capabilities of Vampire form together with the defense and extra damage capabilities of Bushido make these templates formidable.

Some people also fight in Wraith form instead of Vampire form. Those are called Wammies.

A term which just makes me throw up.

Seems like you have returned to UO recently?

    Welcome back.

Samurai with necro. More specific would be a bushido char whith vamperic embrace so that they leech life back as they do damage. See melée forum for more details.

I thank thee for the "welcome back," however, I have played without cease since Sept. of 1997.

I confess I have yet to dabble with Samurai, Ninja, or bushido. In my youth, I was introduced to Dungeons and Dragons around table or family room. Some among our players had memorized scenarios and evil adversaries so best to aid in defeating them. I teased those, calling them "rules or knowledge *****s," for I preferred to prevail based upon other factors such as skill and providence.

Similarly, I have yet to create a character based upon maximizing its abilities through "hybridization," preferring characters whose skill sets made sense.

I am not here criticizing others choices, merely explaining my lack of broader knowledge. That and my otherwise failing memory.

It is just that after all these years my curiosity may be getting the better of me.

Some pure templates are still viable.

The "uber damage machines," however, are all hybrids of one kind or another.

However, with, for example, a pure Paladin template (some combination of the following: Weapon Skill, Focus or Meditation, Tactics, Anatomy, Healing, Chivalry, Parry or Resist), your character can solo a lot of middle to high-end things and make good money and/or contribute to the fight against evil. I'd bet you can do pretty well at EM events and the mata-fiction scenarios, for example.

"Pure mages" are still seen and are still quite viable in PvM. Don't believe them when they say they aren't viable; they are just not as viable as they once were, but they can still survive and do damage.

A "Pure tamer" of some kind (I'm thinking Taming, Lore, Vet, Magery, Eval, Med, Resist?) is also still viable.

A pure warrior, without any kind of spell-like skill, is pretty much done for. You'll at least need Bushido, which RP-wise isn't as spell-like as, say, Chivalry. Paradoxically, however, you'll have to not use Parry if you want to carry a Shield and still get benefits from Bushido.

Apologies if I forgot a skill or two when I was defining the "pure" templates.

Well, the max damage character that I like best is my Mage/necro/weaver.
run in wraith form to leech mana and blast away with slayer books or high SDI books. Use necro to weaken your opponent and word of death from spellweaving to obliterate your enemies when they are getting closer to death.

Thing to bear in mind though, since you asked about both PvM and PvP - don't try a Sampire PvP, it's liable to lead to a lot of grey screens and death robes for you....

Back when the top damage dealers got the rewards, a few ex-guildmates of mine did a test.

The template was archery, tactics, bushido, taming (90ish), lore(90ish), anatomy with some chivalry(60ish).

The pets were packs of hell hounds or ostards. For those who just got a new pack, it was a hell hound, for others it was an ostard.

Yes, there was no healing of any kind from the tamer, that was someone else's job.

We combined two people with this set-up with one mage/tamer with a rune beetle/nightmare combination who was responsible for keeping everyone healed.

Those three people got the reward 100% of the time. They didn't even have to pull out the other tricks in our bags. (I did it enough to see that it worked, they went further and perfected the tactic).

Damage, it does. But it's entirely impractical for day-to-day use, as it has NO survivability outside of effective cross healing.

For most "big" fights (champ, peerless, Doom), my ABC archer out-damages most other characters.

    For PvP, I'm clueless.

In this fantasy scenario where you have unlimited skill points:

To obtain the highest damage to a single creature within a single frame of a second, by a single character, within the mechanics of the current game, you would probably have to be a creature that has been:

Discorded, Blood Oathed, Corpse-Skinned, Evil Omen'd (with the creature just about to hit you)

While you are sporting a Max Perfection Bushido/Lumberjack/Paladin, with:

Enemy of One, Consecrate Weapon, Lightning Strike holding an Ornate Axe with max Damage Increase, Hit Lightning 50%, and appropriate Slayer property, throwing a triple-bomb explosion pot macro.

And of course, in the background, you have 5 fully trained hell-hounds synchronized, about to take a bite out of said creature.

Oh, and throw in an Explosion/FS just before you hit with the Ornate.

So I guess that means you'd need this template for that max-damage-in-a-single-second blow:

    120 SS
    120 Necro
    120 Tactics
    120 Anatomy
    120 Swordsmanship
    100 Lumberjacking
    120 Magery
    120 EI
    120 Bushido
    100 Alchemy
    120 Chivalry

So yeah. We're looking at a minimum of 1,280 skill points and 150 STR.

I have no idea how much damage you would do in that single hit -- but... ouch?

for pvm id say a tamer-mage template with spellweaving swapped in for vet for high start to finish dps. For the last quarter of a boss fight, WoD and pet damage might just overtake the steady dps of a sampire or archer. be interesting to test.

  19. A mage/tamer will never outdamage an ABC archer that has honored the opponent. Never. I highly doubt it would outdamage a maxxed out sampire either.

Playing both, I donno.... don't get me wrong, with my ABC archer, I have 180+ stamina and regularlly pump out insane amounts of damage on each hit.

But, a mage/tamer using a Rune Beetle/pick your poison for the 2nd pet....

Maybe if the mage/tamer had to keep the healing up on their pets...

It's a shame you can't parse damage in UO like you can in EQ/WoW.

  21. I still doubt the tamers pets would come remotely close to the ABC archer. Go figure with honor, you're pumping out 100+ damage shots including reaching perfection I think it is? hell I don't remember been awhile since I played but anyways, I remember being able to shell out well over 1000 points worth of damage in less than 12 shots and contributing to probably over 40% of the overall damage to peerlesses when I hunted with an ABC archer with a group of no less than 3 other members. It was rediculous.
