Well I thought I'd post it here before I tear it down and try again. This was a mock-up on a spare account for a re-design of a friend's Luna plot. It isnt fully decorated but I got pretty close to done before I showed it to her. I don't think she like'd it:

I guess I'll go with the standards of the town. But sandstone and marble are probably my least favorite to work with.

I actually kinda like that, I can never seem to make a house fit that has a decent little garden area in it. And the wall... I love walls with ivy! So pretty...

I agree about the sandstone and marble, I use them for small things, but to build most of a structure out of either of those just kills me. I've seen some nice designs with them, I just won't touch it.

I think that is quite pretty! The look of the vines against those light colored walls with the stone supports, and the great front doorway/arch - it is very charming. I really like how the floor levels are set up around the open patio, too. Can you use the runebooks you have stacked so high?

Sandstone is not so bad. It's heavy and bright but it goes very well with the dark wood (esp that very dark SE wood) and the brown roof tiles. There are some lesser used sandstone wall tiles that you might make use of for accents, and quite a few interesting miscellaneous bits. With the right deco and floor it actually blends pretty well.

I did a plant vendor with the sandstone and those walls with the flowery bits on them, I hate the light colored floor but I'd have to get in there and lock down all the yew tables first to change it, and I'm not sure what I want to do with it yet so it stays for now. I may change out the walls as well, but I really do like those flowery sandstone ones (and wanted to use them so badly). Oh, and there's no deco. It's actually pretty plain, but it's really tough making a vendor house for almost 50 vendors that looks somewhat interesting, hehe:

Heh, u beat me to asking the same thing. Also thought u could add a ladder from those green tokens to those runebook shelves, not only does it serve to reach up but also great to go with high bookshelves. Just an idea :p.

Overall I do like the design, feels cozy enough for me to live in. :D
Oh btw, those verite stone tables I see without their table legs was it made by levitation of the goza mat?

    Gheed,

I like it, too. There are a couple things I would change, but that's just personal preference. Overall it's a very nice design and interesting. *right click/saves* :)

    Sarsmi,

You almost inspired me to alter my plant shop, but I JUST altered the vendor layout a couple weeks ago and have the deco restored now that Christmas is over. I like the accessibility of your vendors and the floral walls. I can never seem to be happy with the sandstone walls no matter how hard I try.

Yes you can use the runebooks all the way to the top. I picked up on this building another design. This is done by building a floor on the second level, placeing the books, going back into custom mode and removing the floor. Then just lower them with the deco tool. But yes you can recall/gate off those locations.

The only tricky part of it is you cant replace any books (to update blocked locations) on the top level once the floor is removed without going back into the tool and redoing the whole thing. Which is a pain for a shop. So the runes marked in the books on the upper level have to be planned out. I used fairly permanent locations... Dungeon entrances/levels, various creature spawns. I even marked alternate spots for some of these things. No NPC, quest or town locations... things that would be more likey to change or become blocked. Magencia is a good example. The lower level books can be updated as long as you don't pull two out at once. So I'll use them for less static locations.

I like that flower shop. I stared at a pic of it a long time ago trying to absorb some of the tricks and color blends.

My first atempt at this design used several sandstone wall types. It really worked out nicley because I could use sandstone rubble to fill in the gaps for missing walls necesary too place the pentagram deeds. The entire botton floor (save the sand tiles at the entrance) is covered with the wooden bridge tile.. the one that forces items placed on it to appear even if you havent hit the steps yet. So the shop doesnt look wierd if you haven't entered it yet. Thanks for that tip a long time ago Sarsmi!

The woman I am making this for didn't like all of the different textures and suggested I change the roof or the sandstone. So I remade it with wood and plaster instead. I think it looks much better than it did. But she doesn't seem interested in seeing it again. Translation: Tear it down and try something different. No big deal. I like doing this stuff. I try to go pretty extreme in my designs. So the reactions are usually love it or hate it.

  7. I love the entire design, especially the great contrast. THe cats by the steps are wonderful.

    Great job.

You know I like the ladder idea. I might try to fit it into the next attempt. Yes the verite table was a goza trick (I love those things). Place three gozas in a row with the center goza where you want the table section. Rasie the gozas at least two tiles over the wooden half wall. Place a large stone table on the gozas then drop one of the gozas twice or until the table "breaks". You will be able to axe the two leg sections leaving only the center section. At this point the table is lost, you won't be able to re-deed it. But the center section will remain and can be raised/lowered in place.

You can mix and match these sections and do some pretty cool stuff:

The house is terrific. I especially like the entrance. It's a shame to tear it down.

That was gorgeous. If your friend insists it's not good enough and starts over, never design for her again. Seriously. I'd pay you to do something like that for my house. (Not in Luna.)

    Gheed, that's a terrific house..

..shame your friend's tastes differ, and a crying shame you're tearing it down. I really like the half-height flooring between storeys and the small staircases leading to the little nooks. Truly artful house design and decoration.

I'd build something for you at no charge. Well you'd have to pay for all the stuff to decorate it with. I'd design homes for every house on every shard for those that didnt want to do it themselves if I had the time. Fighting the borg.... one cubed house at a time. I like that idea.

A lot of my designs have very specific floorplans and involve things like going into custom mode, building temporary structures to place items, then going back into the tool to remove them. So I would have to be the house owner to do it quickly. Of course people aren't going to let me do that... more so for a Luna plot.

You know I wish a house owner could make a floor plan deed or something like that. From the sign you could select a "make blueprint" option and a deed with all of the specifics of your design is created. You could give this design to another player and they could use it on their plot to copy exactly how your house was built.

Then I could design a home in the stages required to finish it. Then the owner could just use those plans on their own plot.

This woman is my best friend in the game and I know her IR. So I have her account info. Actually she doesn't play anymore. But I'm not upset in the least if she doesn't like it.

I have plenty of time anyway. I don't want to commit to it until after SA and I can get a feel for what I can or can't do in the new client. This design would look awful in the current KR client.

This doesnt look too bad. The pentagram tiles look wrong:

But stepping all the way down to the first floor cuts off the second floor and it doesn't look good at all. You can no longer see the second floor runes either. And the back row of vendors in the rear room are on the second floor. so they disappear too. There is no way to shop them unless you use the sign:

I really hope the devs fix this. If they don't every one of my houses will have to be re-built.

    I think it looks brilliant.

The grand archway and outer walls have really inspired me, and I may end up redesigning my house in the future.

My one criticisim is the pentagram floors. In my opinion, they just don't work well with the design. If I was you, I would just do away with them in favor of just regular floor tiles.

I think the complexity of the pentagram flooring really competes with the elegance of your design and somehow diminishes it.

  16. I rather like the house. It would definitaly be brilliant for a tokuno plot. You should invest in one and bring some attention to tokuno and maybe it might rival luna some day:D

Oh, I may have to copy the pentagram floor - I don't know why it's never occured to me to make a "half level" floor in any of my designs, but it hasnt! And I am about to redesign my beach house, and want it to be more "gardeny" so I might have to borrow your idea there =D

    Lovely design!
