I'm really of mixed mind, Some of the EC functions seem to have been smoothed out vs what was available in the KR Client. Honestly the only place I can see the EC being a giant step backwards was in terms of graphics and even those cause performance issues for a lot of folks, I say give them time to get the EC hammered out, where it's right then start shifting the graphics towards something superior to KR's.

There's still the issue many folks are having with either a memory leak or it not running well even on some high end machines. That I consider a major bug. But as to graphics,If they want to improve on it they can do better than KR graphics.

I'll believe new graphics when I see them. Its been nearly a month since they said "the design document is being cleaned up for publuc consumption," this is nothing more then yet another carrot on a stick.

I also miss it the fastness the quality was much better, the cool support at the beginning, the new UO was born! But destroyed by the move to the new location!

Yeah but KR without memory leak would be a huge success the mods were there when it were disabled the bugs only small, the dropping of items was bad, the hotbarsystem, but with the tweaks made in the Enhanced Client it would be a success i am sure.

BUT we have to say crashes are also still happening in the EC more than it should at the moment.

I'm not sure if the crashing issues aren't related to a memory leak...

Honestly I don't use windows 99% of the time, I have yet to have a EC crash on Linux running the EC through WINE. I also don't have the EC or CC eating up a ton of system resources either...

All I want is a good ADVANCED/ENHANCED Client and for sure this is not the CC If they abandon us again and try to force us back to CC
I will pack my stuff into the bank and stop playing/paying And I know I am not alone there I have played over a decade and will play a decade more but never again with the CC!

my personal feeling are the game and the ec will never get what they deserve untill the people using the cc are given the things they like (mainly the graphics they are used to) included into the EC !
and still you will have the people who will not change only because it is change!

Shoot we even have kelmo playing the EC now so all hope is not lost lol

I wish I could be that optimistic, I really do.

However, this Team's track record (and the silence on this topic recently) shouldn't be so blithely dismissed.

Remember the carrots dangled for the classic sharders?

At some point, we (the Team included) have to be willing to lose these people.

Its not a matter of being 'mean' or 'insensitive,' is a purely a matter of keeping this game around. If we cater just to them (as has been done for 13 years) UO won't gain new players or advance any farther then it has.

I just want them (the "if they close the CC I'll quit" types) to come out with the "How would you feel if they shut down your client?" line just to be able to say "I've already been there... TWICE."

There are people hanging on because of certain third party reasons and they will go down kicking and screaming (but probably would quietly start using the EC as those third party reasons are adapted to the EC).

A lot of other people though are hanging on to the EC because of certain things with the art in the EC or because of the interface. Somebody could probably assemble a UI pack that closely resembles the CC while giving players the full benefits of the EC- a reverse of people using the KR client with the CC artwork. If they could clean up some of the artwork and if there was a UI pack that closely resembled the CC, a lot of detractors would go away. I'm an EC fan, but I'll be the first to admit that some of the artwork really sucks in the EC compared to the CC.

They have to fix the crashes though. I know bugs aren't a priority and they squeeze them in when they can, but the crashes were literally killing me last Friday during the Virtuebane event. It was almost unplayable.

I'm dialing everything down and am going to try the Siege Virtuebane event tonight to see if there is a setting that is screwing me up. I think the Nova Blast is really wiping me out.

    I hear you.
Losing KR was a mighty blow but I got over it.
Losing Third Dawn still stings. A lot.

And yet I still greatly enjoy playing UO every chance I get.
Those who truly love the game will continue to play. CC or not.

I didn't mind losing 3D because at least it felt like we were moving (mostly) forward.

My biggest problem with the 3d client was the same problem I have with the EC... 2d Legacy graphics simply DO NOT zoom well. In 3d, the models were crisp, clear and smooth, but the world graphics got distorted. In KR, only at the highest zoom levels did you start to see pixellation, EC is the lesser of both clients in this regard... distorted world graphics and pixellated model graphics.

The problem I had with losing the 3d client was the roughly 2 weeks or so for those who didn't get into closed beta between the time that KR was in closed beta and they shut down the 3d client and when they finally let everyone into the KR open beta. After that, life was good.

I was even fine with going from KR to the EC when they let us modders in the initial closed focus group/beta, but when they downgraded the graphics, tore out popular portions of the UI, and then put all of the focus on the expansion (at the cost of the client and really doing very little of what we were initially focus grouping about), that bothered me.

Because of the botched event on Siege, when I encountered this, there weren't many players and I had no crashes, so I can't really determine anything about it.

I turned my Particle Detail down to 'low' and the Particle Filter down to 'Player/Target" during GL's Virtuebane event and never crashed and didn't lag much.

Mythic should look into making the particle system more efficient...

EA has at least three games using the Gamebryo engine, so I wonder if they dropped in the particle effects from another game.
