Alright, first of all I must say that those who warned me about how hard Undamaged Iron Beetle Scale were to get, were right.

Not only the environment is quite nasty, but the drop rate is also much scarcer than for the wolf skin (out of 12 kills I only got 2....) and on top of that often an iron Beetle wanders where the spiders are which makes things very nastier...

Bottom line is, it looks to me that getting the required 200 Undamaged Iron Beetle Scale to complete the Tier 2 will be a nightmare.

Has anyone been able to complete the daunting task ? May I ask how and in how much time ?

Since I gathered the 200 wolf skin and 100 boura skin, I am determined to complete the last part of the requirement gathering also the 200 Undamaged Iron Beetle Scale. I am unsure whether reqching the goal will really be worth it in the end but since I did 2 thirds of the work already, I would like to get the job done, after all.....

I think the Developers should have made it 200 wolf skin, 200 boura skin and 100 Undamaged Iron Beetle Scale. The requirement of having to gather 200 of the Undamaged Iron Beetle Scale seems really very very steep to me. Oh well.........

Can anyone please give me good advice towards reaching this goal in a reasonable time ?

I did try searching for posts but under "Undamaged Iron Beetle Scale" as key words I only get 2 threads and they only merely mention then as what they are and what they are for, does not really provide any help towards more efficiently getting them.

The main problem I seem to have is being able to stay alive with all of the spiders there.
Is there a way that one can handle the many of them there are out there without dieing ?

If one gets out of the corner where the iron beetles spawn (and where also 2 or 3 spiders spawn along...), it is easy to get targeted by some 15+ spiders all at once......

Is there a way to survive to so many ?

    Thank you very much.

Personally, I think the devs did a great job with the tier quests because they take a long time to complete. It took me close to a month to be able to get to the final tier quests. The quests were a good challenge and allowed me to explore the regions of Ter Mur. IMO that's the way a quest should be because the challenge and the time makes the end reward a lot more satisfying.

The iron beetles are indeed a challenge because of all the wolf spiders in the area that like to join in the battle uninvited. I used a samurai paladin to take out the iron beetles. Grab a good fire or cold damage weapon (I used a 100% fire damage tessen). Also, a beetle slayer talisman cuts down the battle time and does high damage.

I haven't had many problems taking out the iron beetles, just need to know how to secure that area and keep all the wolf spiders in their area. If you die, the fountain up ahead can res you so it's not a bad location. The drop rate on the iron beetle scales can be frustrating at times, but this is not a quest that is meant to be camped all day. I say, do the quest 1 or 2 times and call it a day or go do another quest. I would alternate between the alchemist quests and the hunter's quests in the royal city of Ter Mur.

Guess it depends on your template. My mage-mystic garg can hunt there all day with no problems. Sometimes the spawn rate for the beetles slows down, but recovers eventually. Just keep back where the spiders can't target you and hope Navary peeps don't peep in on ya, bringing the crowd with them.

This is just a repeat of your already locked thread about wolf skin drop rate, except with an attempt to disguise it by "asking" about a different item.

    Someone please lock this thread.

Popps own words from another post. It aint broke, it aint game stopping. Deal with it. Just because it is you doesn't mean it needs immediate attention over anything else.

Give him a day or two and he'll be back complaining about the beetles not spawning.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Since I searched and saw no threads providing advice to players seeking help to gather these particular items on the Forums, I thought to start a thread on the topic so that when other players will look for hints on how to best gather these particular items, they might bump into this thread and hopefully find it informative.

So, rather than asking to lock a thread seeking for help to gather these items, just provide the help that could set players on the right track on how to gather the most Undamaged Iron Beetle Scale in the least time and without dieing too often given the place.....

Or leave the thread alone if it annoys you so much......

From the replies I seem to understand that a Mage-Mystic might have it easy to deal with the spawn, spiders included......

What kind of mage mystic ? Any particular armor/modifiers ? Any advisable tactics to avoid or best deal with the wolf spiders ? Is there a better way to protect from their poison ?

I found the excessive number and respawn of the spiders rather nasty. Even a fully trained Greater Dragon could not stand them without repeated healing. I just have hard time thinking how a template could do better than a Greater Dragon with the HPs they have and be able to stand up to some 15 spiders all hitting at once....

Any template can do that area. Its not hard. You are smart Popps. You left out what type of character template you was using so you can argue about it down the line. Give a template that you are using. With all the ways to heal and cure in the game wit pots and ect ect plus use the spell invis, invis pots, or hiding its kind of impossble to die there. There are stratagies to lure away some spiders so you can farm that spot. Just think for once.

Use two mages and bring spider slayer spellbooks. Summon EVs and Invis/Heal/Cure each other. You will very rarely die.

He can also use a beetle slayer tailsman on a dexxer character to kill the beetles faster. Carry an Arachnid Slayer if spiders get on him.

First attempt was with a Greater Dragon, not bad, but trying to see if other ways can make the farming more efficient given the very low drop rate....

Luring the spiders away I tried, but that is an area quite frequented by players because of Navrey and so they inevitably come back. Not worth the trouble to lure them away all of the time, IMHO.

I am more trying to find some template capable of just standing there and sustain their attack, regardless of their number.

Since it seems that the area cannot be rid of them with luring, then the other option I see is just let them come in and just fight them. The problem is their high number.

Is there a way to be able to stand up with them also when they are many, say 15+ all hitting at once ?

    How ?

Go to the Mage forums and check there. That part of the discussion can be answered there with a little research from you. There are templates and set ups.

My 4/6 chiv swords template with an arachnid slayer and whirlwind. I could heal and cure fine and use pots and such. Use the beetle tailsman on the beetles.

On my neco mage I would ev and whither. I use a Arachnid slayer book.I be fine all day.

On my ABC character I use a slayer magical shortbow and beetle tailsman. Spam lightning arrows and use pots, bandies ,and bushido to heal and cure.

Since I'll be doing this too, I ran down there to see how it goes.

Here's how I did it, and will each time: W/O killing 1 spider
It reminds me a lot of the Fire beetle spawn area, so I used the same type of tactic. Before you get to the jail cells, there's a little area w/ a table on the north wall in that hallway - This is what I call the Parlor. I happen to know that Goblins like to date the spiders (they both live in a cave, what do you expect?), and they're very shy, just staring at each other in the Parlor for a long time.

So. I allow All the spiders to follow me back to this area, It took 3-4 trips to to get all the stragglers, but it's Not that hard. Pretty much took no damage, just poisoned a couple times. I hide and return back to the beetles. Now, I have exclusive beetle spawn to kill at my leisure, I'm happy. and the spiders & goblins are happy. a win win situation.
I may go back on my fire beetle, and just camp for a while. Kill, smelt ore on ground, hide, log, repeat.

Question tho, do more beetles spawn up in the blood ele area? I just saw 3 beetles total, w/ respawn coming pretty quick (reasonable and normal for a beetle).
Came home w/ 2 scales, spending about 10-15mins.

Tell ya what. Come to Sonoma. I will take you down there, teach you the ropes. We can stay there for hours without a need for healing or curing. You can keep the scales.

    Very kind offer, thanks.

But this thread has an actual purpose, to help whomever might be in a similar situation and look for advice.

So, it would be preferable and more helpfull to many others, if you could write the details in this thread so that others might also benefit from the knowledge.

    Thank you.

Popps - Or you could take up his offer and report back what you did.

You have the knowledge, now share it.

  19. Will you all stop giving advice.

Its the same old stuff. Argh.

The fair and casual player is at a disadvantage because... (fill in blank)

I am trying to do this but it takes to much time, what ways do you all do it.

SHOULD READ: I want it now, I don't care what you do, I just want to complain the game takes to long. This is an outrage.

Pops. You have been playing way to long to have to keep asking for advice about things like this. You know. You know. You know. But you dont like.

You know how to fight, you know how to enter a dangerous place and pick corners to fight from.

One day maybe you can not only be a fair and honest player... but make fair and honest posts.

Oh to answer you question... you are doing the scale collecting absolutely correctly, yes you will need to spend hours to complete it.

The quest isnt broken, it is well designed, it is difficult, time consuming... and probably when you get their the reward won't meet your standards.

I don't believe this and neither do you. I think for those that do, Great! That Y'all Never have to read a spoiler or look up how to solve quests or kill/tame a particular baddie. So let's remove All advice from the board, eh? board gone, problem solved. That's kinda what the board is all about, people helping people - isn't it?
I personally have to look for a spoiler up Each & Every Quest and read it over and over, plus check Every monster (still wishing our comments were back in the Monster DB), and I will still have problems ex.( Sutek's "Perfect Timing" Quest took me near an hour to do Once).I don't even try lever/button puzzles, even w/ the answers, they're still too difficult.
Ditto w/ plague beast surgery and others.

If it seems like a noob type question to You, that doesn't mean it should go unanswered for Everyone Else that plays. If it's that easy of a question, it should take a good player 5 seconds to give a usable answer, If you don't want to help, please don't stand in the way of those of us that do.

  21. Your entitled to your opinion. I just ask you to read his responses. The end up the same. Pops is smart player. He knows how to play.

over 70 scales for me and yeah took an age to get them. But makes the tier 3 rewards that much more valuble!! don`t change it devs its working just fine. well ok maybe make the iron beetles either always have a scale or speed up their respawn rate.

    /this

and apply it to Other things that rely on the RNG. Make them harder, or whatever, but it's frustrating to deal w/ a randomness that 'works' like Luck does

Popps, you do know that this thread, like all others, will be buried beneath dozens upon dozens of other threads in no time right? This thread will only serve this purpose that you claim for a very limited time to only a couple at best, maybe a handful. After that, the few people who will assume that this discussion forum will hold the answer and use the search function and by luck find this thread. If you really mean what you say, you're much better off archiving this information into a fansite under the propper section. That and taking up his offer so you can learn first hand.

What i do to farm Undamaged Iron Beetle Scales, is i use my Tamer/Mage with a trained Bane Dragon to kill the Iron Beetles. I also summon an EV to make the job easier, they will almost always go after a Wolf Spider before a Iron Beetle (Makes vetting easier without having to worry about Poison), since they have higher INT. With 1,890 Luck, about 1/3 of the Beetles drop a scale for me.

  26. oh no a luck discussion.
Good use of luck suit though.

Not really, thanking to the "search" option.....

That is why I put as a title for the thread "Undamaged Iron Beetle Scale" so that whomever in the future will do a search to find guidance to gather these resources might easily retrieve this thread with whatever usefull information players put into it.
