    Greetings!

Welcome to FAQ Friday - Where we've collected together answers to Frequently (and sometimes not so frequently) Asked Questions within the community.

This FAQ Friday is dedicated entirely to the Fish Monger - we've seen many questions, and we want to let you know there's nothing fishy going one.

Want to see your question up here? We select questions from UO Stratics, so head over and post your question - we might answer it in a future post!

Please keep in mind that these won’t always address major topics of conversation, this is simply another way of sharing info about the game that won’t necessarily make it into a Producer’s Update or patch note.

Most of the answered queries was already known or suspected.

There is still quite a few unanswered questions about fishing orders remaining, though...

For example, it is still unclear whether loyalty builds up steadily and as such is taken into account when it comes to assigning fishing orders and rewards OR whether it is a rinse and repeat cycle with loyalty being erased all or in part, in cyckes.

There has been lots of reports of players getting a bunch of 1 or 2 liners after completing 5 or 6 liners and it happens too often to think it is only the RNG....

I did not like AT ALL the suggestion to toss away the books.....
They will not be made a use for not even in the future ? That really is upsetting.

So now we know that all the work done to fish whatever the order wanted for and ended up with a book is all WASTED work (if the reward is tossed away it IS wasted work....).

Sorry, but this is just not right. At least make am alternate use for these books so that players getting them as rewards will not feel they just wasted their work and time away.

Lastly, in the reply to the query "How does the monger decide which quest to give us?" it is indicated skill as the determining factor.

Perhaps they wanted to mean level of "Loyalty with the fish mongers, instead ??

They mentioned, clear as day, that the books are being dropped too frequently and that is plaaned to be adjusted in an upcoming publish. Live with it for now, at least they communicated this to us.

There still is a problem with all of the books which players have already received and those that they will further receive more until the drop rate is adjusted.

There needs to be made available an alternate use for them.

Like for example, make them usable as turn ins for points at the Library of course, keeping into account their different rarity.......

I mean, a book 6 is way more difficult to get than a book 1 and so the amount of points they should award should greatly differ......

Or better even, allow fish mongers to accept books as turn ins and give something else usefull to fishermen in exchange........

The only thing I'm going to say is this.

At least they are giving us faq on Friday again.

Whether or not we know the answers or knew or suspected or whatever.... we ARE getting the FAQ on Friday.

    So communication... that's the key.

    I'm happy with that.

Oh ya let's praise the FAQ Friday that looks like a fifth grader too lazy to use punctuation whipped it up in five minutes. Everyone acts like just because UO is an old game it can't be just as professionally run as a multi-million subscription service like WoW. The fact is, it CAN be and it SHOULD be run that way. The last time I checked, UO is still a pay to play service. I'm starting to wonder what I'm paying for.

While I realize that yes they have some issues with punctuation and spelling and things of this nature but you know so do I.

Now if it was something added to the story arc or something of that nature..... Yes I totally agree it needs to be "professional" ...... but FAQ that are just something nice they do for us and they are communicating.... I'm not so picky about.

It's not about being picky. A lot of people (including myself) try make sure even their posts here on stratics or any other forum are at least in the ball park of correct. The fact that their first communication with the community in (insert synonym for too long) is obviously not even double-checked conveys a sense of apathy and even disrespect toward the game and even us. We're the only reason they have this job. Seems to me like they don't care if they lose it.

    Absolutely agree.

I cannot stress enough how important it is, to my opinion, that the Developers have a constant and ongoing comunication with players about the game.

So yes, it is a good thing and I hope they will also answer the further questions that remain unresolved about fishing orders and the game in general.

Neither am I that picky in general but sometimes, different words can change the meaning of a whole paragraph.

    For example,

Did they really mean the word skill or, as I would have expected, the word loyalty with the fish mongers was the one that should have been there ?

Because if the correct word there is skill, then I am really not sure why we have loyalty with the fish mongers at all, why we need to raise it by turning in orders and why we loose it when we reject an order.....

Yes popps they meant skill and skill is correct in that sentence. If your skill is under 106 you will not get orders for dungeon fish. Therefore your list would be smaller by 12 fish types.

Hmm... did not think about the 106 skill firing up dungeon fish request and I still find it confusing.

I mean, since it describes how fishing orders are handed out (from 1 to 6 liners), by reading it one might think that skill (not loyalty) is a factor to receive a 6-liner, for example.

That is, for example, reading the paragraph one might think that a 120 fisherman would have higher chances to receive a 6-liner than, say, a 100.0 fisherman......

Instead, reputation also factors in, at least from my undertanding, and the higher the reputation the higher the chance to a 5 or 6-liner order.

That is, skill merely adds dungeon fish to the pool of available fish or crabs or lobsters that fishmonger use to create an order but it is reputation (not skill) which, as I understand it, helps getting that much wanted 5 or 6-liner order.....

As I understand it, it is actually reputation NOT skill which determines more if the fish monger will hand out a 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 or 6-liner fishing order.

Skill decides the list of fish that can be asked for.
Reputation (completed orders) decides your chances of getting a multiline order.

    It's complex...

The skill will influence what you can catch and because you get orders for fish you can catch, low skill players won't be able to get orders for the higher level fish.

Then there is the section about completing multiple orders for each type of fish. Which gives you a higher chance of 6 line orders. I read that to mean that if you do 5 orders for every fish type, your chances from that bit of the equation are at their greatest.

Then there is loyalty, which is also affecting the size of your orders.

I've probably missed something out, but the general point is that a number of factors contribute to determine how big your order will be and even when you take them all into consideration, there is no guarantee that you'll get 6 liners each and every time.

You understand it correctly. Your skill only determines the list of fish you can recieve an order for (at GM skill there are 42 fish to choose from, at 106+ skill there are 54 to choose from). Your reputation and your previously completed orders determine the number of requests you get per order.

Posting to note I'm happy that they're at least communicating.. Although I'd love to go back to the old FoF. It was a really good way to deliver solid bits of information that had come up for discussion over the week.

Communication is indeed the key to making a vast majority of the disgruntled p(l)ayers happier.

However, one FoF after 2 months of nothing (and virtually no official communications beyond shard/maintenance issues) shouldn’t mean all is well again. It IS a good sign, but let’s not pat them on the head and call it “good” till we have at least a solid month of these.

Consistency is the key to good communication.

OK, James, if you're reading this, I'd like to have this explained with your "levels" of rewards. I turned in a 6 Line order to Vesper consisting of: 20 Blue Crab, 15 King Crab, 20 Fred Lobster, 15 Red Snook, 15 Yellowfin Tuna, and 10 Demon Trout. My reward: A Lava Fishing Pole.
Next Quest for Skara Brae was a 1 Line order for 15 Bluefish. My reward: A Lava Fishing Pole.
You got some splainin' to do James.

Wanna hear another even worse ?

Over on the fishing Forum a player mentioned receiving a 6 lines fishing order with all of them being for dungeon fish, the BEST fish there is as far as points go.

I mean, someone else calcolated the odds of receiving such a fishing order as 0.000036.
Wanna hear what was the reward ? A book.

Yes, a damn useless book for a fishing order which has close to nothing a chance to spawn....

I will say it once again, better fishing orders must always bring in better rewards than worse fishing orders.

Instead, it happens the other way around and we get worse fishing orders bring in better rewards, far better rewards, than way much better fishing orders.

It just makes no sense to me and sounds just plain wrong.

A 6 lines ALL for dungeon fish giving a damn useless book ? Give me a break......
