Well... err... I count 5, all right.

    Yup. Five.

    Wow. Uhm... yeah. :sad4:

  4. 4 of those 5 were questions asked here on Stratics. There's nothing for anyone to complain about.

"I am a new player in New Haven, why can I not buy skills for training?"

If you have accepted one of the new player quests in New Haven you will have to resign from it before you can buy skills.

    -Mesanna

...........Was that seriously asked? Doesn't it TELL YOU that you cannot currently purchase skills while having a skill quest active?

    Wow. Just....wow.

See my previous post. And the non-archer quiver DCI bonus? Been answered many times already. Windows 7 compatibility? WTF kind of move would that be to NOT support the most recent OS?

It had 5 questions, but that's about it.

Well considering it's a new player it's same to assume they don't quite know much about the game. No need to act like that.

Best post here for those who always complain about FoF here...

Most people don't 'always complain'... they just voice their dissatisfaction when something is disappointing. Like this FoF. Sorry, but as a first FoF for her it's pretty weak, imo. Not the best 'first impression'.

It is Chrissay's first FOF, so we shouldn't be too picky.
However, if the questions in the FOF is answered differently or more in detail, the response will be much positive.
For example, the info about scrolls of transcendence should not only say that the scrolls and the rare drops from champ spawns will be permanet, but also add some info on the drop rate - people have asked on Stratics whether the drop rate in tramel rule set is as same as the rate in fel rule set, and wheter the rate was related to that of 105ps.

This way, both UO hall junky and general public get something they want.

Yes, DCI with the quiver has been in threads before....with different answers, I feel more comfortable getting the answer from the devs. Also, they simply said that they would not be able to support the BETA version of Windows 7...not even Microsoft can give you support for the BETA version! So relax and enjoy...don't get too bent out of shape.

The only question which wasn't common knowledge was that spring cleaning one and the answer was basically "Maybe, but not soon".

I should really stop reading these things, complete waste of time.

First impressions are fickle thangs.

I got my first impression of Chrissay when she was ingame doing EM/Seer stuff last Valentine's day. And it was a good one, believe me, she put up with a lot of crap out of her audiences, I said before, if I woulda been her I woulda been yanking GMs in to jail some of the ingrates and griefers who were at those events.

She answered what there was, gotta give her that. And a big plus, she has been on the boards lately, gotta give her that. Hopefully she will break the cycle we have had lately of EAMythic being incommunicado with us, except for quick-wit quips and stuff for the ADD peeps (Oh Look!! IT's a CHICKEN!!)

Time will tell, for now, I say go for it Chrissay, be the best, you know what we want and ask for, instead of getting beat into retreating and going invis, talk to us, be a real changing of the guards :D:bowdown:

My thing is this: say you have two questions. One actually is on a thread that say 80 people ask the same question. The other is one single question that a player answered by the second post (like Prince Caspian's this week, no offense Caspian).

As a duty to the playerbase, what serves better for to answer: a question that a HIGH MAJORITY ask for or a question only one (or a minute few) might ask.

If you are looking to appease the players as a WHOLE, common sense would dictate to look for an answer that will accommodate the majority, which CLEARLY both Jeremy... and now Chrissay... fail to understand.

Chrissay, I implore you to PLEASE do a better job next week. Please.

Maybe you should start using that time to learn what the definition of "Common Knowledge" is, since you don't have a clue what you're talking about.
    • Windows 7 question: Hardly common knowledge.
    • SoTs: Not everyone took part in the discussion here on them (remember Stratics and uoforums COMBINED is a tiny fraction (perhaps 1-2%) of the UO userbase, and the question was probably asked through the FEEDBACK page at uoherald - they don't take the questions through suggestions on U.Hall, in quite some time.)
    • Quiver of Infinity DCI bonus: Despite being answered here on Stratics multiple times, it STILL get re-asked about every other week - and the likelihood of someone not reading Stratics asking the question via Feedback is even higher.
    • Spring Cleaning - people have already started collecting junk with hopes of a new event. Having this answered hopefully will get them to knock it off.
    • New Haven question: It's easy to miss, especially for a new player, such warning text. This is especially true if they are playing KR (which is much more likely for a new player), where the chat window is designed to be less obtrusive than the 2D journal, and can fade out or be displaced off-screen in a high-traffic area quickly.
Of the questions, only the last one is one that the asker shouldn't have needed to ask, even if not a Stratics user. And, even then, so many people tune out system messages, I've actually had to GIVE that answer to veteran players before (either in-game or on Player's Corner) - going all the way back to the Alacrity scrolls that use the same mechanics as the New Haven Skill Quests.

BTW, the definition of "Common Knowledge" is "something that is generally known" (by everyone or a large majority), and the Webster's New Millenium Dictionary of English even went out of its way to use it in an example where "common knowledge" is used to state a falsehood as if it was fact - i.e.

Example: It is common knowledge that that dictionary is not being updated.

I think that's where the problem is with a lot of people.

The threads here on stratics have nothing to do with it.

The questions get asked from the website (UO.com) not stratics forums =)

So having a thread with 80 peole askign the same thing is irrelevant if they aren't asking it in the feedback form on UO.com

while it's nice that Chrissay has jumped in on the FoF, which will never, no matter how much information is presented, please most of Stratics users, I gotta ask... have we lost Joanne, or are they now sharing the responsibilities, or is Joanne headed back to the other forums she was rep for...? anyone know? did I miss a post explaining it all?

who even has windows 7 or would want it? vista is perfect the way it is, i dunno why people always feel they need to get the newest OS just because it exists, they shouldn't make it compatible in spite of those people

also, when was the last time uo had a new player?

for heav... eer sosaria's sake when will people realise that the fof were not created to produce jaw droppingly revelatary news, and also, that as said before stratics is not the be all and end all of opinions. Just because you may have seen questions answered on this board does not mean that it is widely known to the uo public as a whole. Fine, now and then a point or two will reveal very interesting news, othertimes they will simply be a heads up about certain things that are upcoming or have been inquired about. Just because your questions are not answered does not mean its a farce . And before you start yes i have been dissapointed with some of the fof in the past but i take it for what it is and i don't expect parting of the red sea scale information on a weekly basis. Many of you might be happier if you accepted this :) or am i just being silly ? *ponders*

See, back in the day we had little things like 'In Concept' and 'In Development' that allowed us some insight on the goings on with UO. Things like the FoF are really one of the FEW things players have left to be given ongoing additions to the game.

Tackling the tiny questions is ridiculous. The FoF SHOULD be for important questions and information. Instead, its treated like an afterthought by the Community Team. Kinda sad, really.

EDIT: As a side note, after going ROUND after ROUND after ROUND with letting the community Team know a majority of us want the 'tougher' questions answered, it's like it falls on deaf ears. Will they ever learn and realize their JOB is to dispense info both ways and to TACKLE these 'hard questions'?

Canary, will you ever learn and realize that the "Tougher questions" are not as simple to answer, as you would want to think? Otherwise, they wouldn't be "Tough" questions.

Before the FoF (and in the early FoFs), when they answered "tough questions", more often than not, the answer was not entirely correct, based on erroneous data, or on erroneous assumptions by the players or the devs (the latter, when dealing with systems in the game written before their hire - can you say, "Perfection Luck Bonus"?). Other tough questions, if answered correctly, would alert cheaters to things to exploit. And, there are a LOT of things that the devs just DON'T KNOW about the legacy code (remember, it took FIVE OR SIX YEARS just to figure out there was a missing or misplaced parentheses in the Smith BOD formula, for determining pulls).

In effect, you're saying you want to risk getting WRONG answers to tough questions, rather than correct answers to other questions that are equally valid, but easier to answer (and then of course, you all will go crazy flaming the devs for the wrong answers). The logic of this attitude stuns me.

Most people ignore little texts on the screen or skim through it, resulting in not getting all the data. New players do not know all the little tricks, where to click to even get that text, hence the term new player. I can guarantee that most vets don't even read all the texts on the screen and I am betting that is the same with you too. In which case, to steal your remark, this isn't the game for you or a lot of people who have played for so long.

  34. The text being reffered to is stopping them from doing something, the majority of texts in game are not. If a text repeatedly appears on your screen while you fail to do w/e it is sense should finally kick in and tell you to read it.

It was a pointless question that they could have figured out themselfs.

On top of which it wasn't even well answered, it could just have easily have been that they had no money or the skill was locked.

    FoF - Forever Failing.

Three Questions that IMO should be addressed & the player base given some information.

#1 the lag that is hampering many many players playing time
    ( http://vboards.stratics.com/showthread.php?t=114020 )

#2 More Account Security (Timers for Char Deletion, Etc)

#3 More Stable Stall slots that time & time again we have asked for & told, We're working on it for the future... Well If I am not mistaken, it's been over a Year now & no word at all. You keep adding Tamables but do not give the players the ability/capacity to have them with everything else. Most pets have a use or 2, not all pets work on all things. If you keep adding, we need the room. Ty

( Other then Todays last FOF one, the other 4 were not that bad guys & gals be a little realistic, not everyone comes here to Stratics )

Viper09 - how many veteran players, after all, complain when they lose gear because they fail to notice the message at the bottom of the screeen about their not being sufficient funds to reinsure all their belongings?

I bet it's a lot more than will admit that's the real reason they lost stuff, not a bug (though the insured/blessed item bug really is an issue), because I hear a lot more people complaining in the game about stuff becoming uninsured (or being stolen/looted, when they THOUGHT it was insured), then sheepishly having to admit they ran out of gold when they beg out of going somewhere on a different character. Otherwise, we'd have 10 times more people complaining about insurance "bugs" than are currently doing so.

Chrissay, folks, is an old hand at UO - as the former GM Adida.

Joanne's the newbie, and that's why they've made the two of them a team to handle the community position.

Part of the problem with the last year or so's FoF is ... for me at least ...

Long ago, for awhile, there were many FoF that often covered some of the burning, long(er) not answered, or hot topics that were on the boards. Often, an answer was not given and if it couldn't be answered, at least an acknowledgment with the status was given. At least for a question or two.

I think that's why some people get 'let down' by some of the topics on the Fof.

I'd like to hear the status, even if it's "still coming soon" on some of those topics.

Basara, do me a favor and get over yourself. I will learn this lesson when you learn that people get paid to perform a job correctly and adequately, ESPECIALLY in the service industry (SHOCKING!).The dev team doesn't even know the diff between the Totem of the Void and Spirit of the Totem (yes, this really happened).

    ... and that's HARDLY a tough question.

I'm simply asking that they know what they are talking about and invest some actual energy into getting the questions answered that the majority of the playerbase seem to ask. After all, it IS what the community person gets paid to do.

I'm sorry you were expecting more details, but I simply answered the question that was asked. So if you have more questions you want answered, dont be shy to forward them to Joanne and Chrissay. If you assume we will go into all kinds of other details related to every question, you will be disappointed more often than not!

As far as the drop rate in Fel vs Tram, that has been answered by myself and others in various threads. The drop rate is designed to be the same. The difference is Felucca gets 105s whereas Trammel doesn't. So there are 3 rolls being performed. The first one to determine whether or not killing a non-boss monster will give a scroll. If yes, a 2nd roll is done to decide if that scroll will be a 105 or a SoT. In Felucca, the player will receive whichever scroll was determined by the 2nd roll. In Trammel, if that roll landed on a 105, no scroll is given. The 3rd roll determines which skill scroll it will be and how many points it will give (for SoTs).

With that said, there currently is a bug with scroll distribution and with some of the rewards. And the plan is to have all of these resolved for Pub 58.

    Regine,
I feel for ya, it's not possible to please everyone and I figure better for some to come here and take their frustrations out on life than go kick their dog ya know? *smiles*

However, I think part of the point that MYUO was making was this is a good opportunity to take those answers from many threads and condense it down to that FoF with a few more details that relate to each other. When it comes to the main UO site, the UOHerald, the bulk of the information would best serve everyone there, including in the FoF. Stratics and other fan sites do a great job of providing information so thank you for taking the time to visit us all and answer our many questions. You guys are appreciated!

People should not be whining about FoF. Developers answer a lot of questions every week outside of FoF. I would rather have them continue to actively participate in the community like they have been than wait for FoF. FoF is not really meant for stratic junkies, unless it is used for a big announcement which they are not going to have every week.

If you guys continue your whining then it is not long before Chrissay or Joanne gets the idea of squelching the devs so that they can use the material for FoF that they would have posted on the boards earlier anyways.

*doin' little happydance for two community peeps!*

  47. Stratics isn't the majority of the playerbase. It's a VERY, VERY small minority.

Unless you work for Mythic, and are the direct or indirect supervisor of the employees involved, you aren't the one that gets to determine what's correct and adequate and what isn't. The only thing you can have is an opinion on the matter, which doesn't seem to jive with their supervisor's point of view.

  48. Why was this set up like this? If the roll determines that a scroll should drop, one should drop. A drop in Tram shouldn't be determined by a roll for the Fel ruleset, escpecially considering Tram scrolls can only be as high as .5. It's no wonder Fel drops are 20-1 over Tram. We're getting screwed because there are no PS's for Tram champs. So not only do Fel champs take less than half the time of a Tram champ, and SoT's are 2x as high point wise, but Tram champs are getting half the number of scroll drops period because of a Fel rule.

That's just pure BS and needs to be changed. Risk vs reward is one thing, but to have the odds tipped so far out of whack in so many ways is counterproductive. It's no wonder that the Tram champs have emptied out again. It takes 3-4 times as much effort to get something that's only half the reward.

So actually, the drop rate is 1/2 in trammel than it is in fel. If the 2nd roll is what you said it is.
