    Greetings!

On Friday, 01/07/11, starting at 9:00AM EST the following shards will experience rolling downtimes as we deploy new hardware (in this order):

    • Pacific
    • Baja
    • Sonoma
    • Lake Austin
    • Napa Valley
    • Oceania
Downtimes will vary depending on the population of the shard and therefore we cannot provide an ETA; however, higher populations should expect potential downtimes up to 8 hours.

We apologize for this inconvenience and will work to update you during this deployment, thank you.

I wonder if every server is getting new hardware or just some of them?

Either way....It means money is being spent on UO. Which is interesting, to say the least.

Then Oceania should expect potential downtimes up to... 5-10 minutes

Hey, just remember "new hardware" does not necessarily mean the Hardware is New. :mf_prop: My little brother got "new" clothes as a kid, every time I outgrew mine, lol.

    I had to.

Maybe they replace old Pentium-4 based XEONs to new low power Atoms to save on electricity bills?

This new hardware is an amazing improvement from the previous generation. It makes us programmers so happy! :)

Out of curiosity, is this improvement going to be visible, in a direct and immediate sense, by the end user? For example, in better pings or less choppy movement or something?

Not that I'm knocking it if not; I'm just quite curious.

And from what you're saying it somehow sounds like all shards will be getting this sooner or later? Or were those shards just on really old machines?

You upgrade old 286 to newer pentium-MMX to get 32-bit code advantage and multimedia code set?

No, this hamster is corn fed.
    Well, Cheetos anyways.

But what's important is that he can handle the influx of freeloaders coming soon.

I play on dail-up and noticed that buildings that used to take 10 seconds before I could move, now take 5 seconds. Other players on Baja tested this on other deco intensive buildings and noticed the same thing.

Hope after server up in the morning it is better, I ping 22 to Napa and
it feels like 300 now, but not all the time which is odd. And it does
    not matter where I am.
