[UO Herald] Latency Issues

    For those of you who are experiencing latency issues we wanted to let you know that we've identified an issue with an individual telecom company whose network is affecting performance of players whose service is routed through their network at any point, particularly on the East Coast. We're sorry for the inconvenience everyone and thank you for your patience as our team continues to work with this provider to resolve the issue.

    Just wanted to say thanks for letting us know. I havn't been able to play in over a week because of this lag and missed a large portion of a very well put together event. I appreciate the update and good luck with the provider. I hope you can get them to make a change very soon.

    It was a welcome releif to read this on uohearld, thanks again. Ive been trying to communicate this to my mother which plays pogo every night, I just sent her laptop back to her, to tell her there wasn't a problem with her computer lol

    Glad to hear an update.

    Although I myself haven't been experiencing any lag at home, I logged on at work today and it was quite laggy, considering I have a much larger pool of bandwidth at my office.

    I hope this issue is resolved as quickly as possible.

    This telecom better have their best techs on this one! From industry experience, I know it can be next to impossible to get any clear admittance of guilt from any telecom provider, so the hard part should be over. ;)

    I don't know if they've put in an "answer" but if what I am tracing is the answer... it's worse than the problem!

    I'm glad they've identified the issue.

    Now maybe some of the trolls will go back to drinking all day and will stop trying to set records for most posts locked in one day.
     
  22. Im still not renewing mine... I will let my one account go down tomorrow as scheduled. Sure we FINALLY got an update but that was far to long, terrible customer service is what they have and I refuse to pay them to work on other games instead of the one we pay for.
    Glad you all got the update you were looking for, at least you know somewhere there may be a light...!!!!

    I was just running trace route on east coast, where I was running through Washington.car3 servers, changed at 6:45pm est time to running through the att servers. I logged on and can move with no freezing, I hope now pogo is running smoothly too.
     
  24. Hot diggity! An update, at last! Thank you! If a fix is in the works I know it takes a while to trickle down thru networks if settings are to be altered.

    I wait for the time which I can spend whomping nasty beasts' butts into the ground! It's been 2 long, frustrating weeks for me.

    Progress indeed. It looks like Level3 has been removed from the route. All my traces are consistently pointing to single IP addresses for Fert07 and Fert08 now. Not sure if all the fixes are in place but things are looking up.

    I am on the east coast and my latency is still at 140. Was it higher?

    look....i understand the frusteration, and although it might be overreaching to say one might cancel their account, some might...all that was needed to calm down most people was communications

    at any rate, the player community got what it needed, an update, which is what ive been saying all along,,,,just a simple update

    look at how many people have posted positive messages since.

    Apparently Level 3 should have spent some money on server structure rather than Sean Connery voiceovers.

    My route's the same as it was (through sprintnet/144.223.246.6/fert07), but there's no lag tonight (fast ping, no packet loss).

    Mine is a bit different (starts on Level 3 servers from Tampa to Atlanta then att to EA) and earlier was dropping packets and giving an even higher ping than before, but now it seems to have settled down. Should be smooth for me now.

    That's good news!

    From the technical prowess displayed in the forums, lots of folks understand that technical issues sometimes takes longer than expected to isolate and resolve. They also know that it's the network teams' job.

    Folks just need some reassurrance that the issue is still being tended to. And because the network team do not communicate directly with us, folks are expecting to hear from you or the devs.

    Even a simple "We want to reassure you that our network team are still working hard on this, they have the tracert reports you submited and can see where the general issue lies, but the exact cause is taking longer than expected to fix. We will update everyone on the progress or if there's none, at least once a day. We thank you for your patience" would suffice.

    I apologize if I sound like a smartass and I really don't mean to tell you how to do your job. Just wanted to let you know what most folks would be happy with and please don't let us scare you away :)

    Well let me dish on them. Level3 bought Wilcom aka Wiltel aka Williams Communications Group....They have a good system but most incompetant cheap MORONS anyone has ever seen. At least in bad ol WCG days they had good peeps,equipment but uber morons in upper level managment.

    I take it that parts of the internet traffic with Europa (continent) was going through this knot too. So we should be fine.

    I know what it's like to have infuriated users for a few weeks treat you like you are completely incompetent because you can't fix it NOW. Technology is great when it works, but when it doesn't, sometimes that takes more time than just plug-and-play.

    Add in modern coporate structure and legal limitations on public communication and often times very frustrating situations arise. I believe our Dev Team is working hard on the new expansion, new content, and the current event arc. I bet there are many hours of overtime and not clocked work done while at home, crunching a problem.

    Thank you sooooooo much for the update. Now please, PLEASE, let this whole episode serve as a reminder that even if you can't fix the problem, at least keep your paying customers informed. Some of us don't ask for much more than that.

    BTW, for those of us in the eastern US (and probably a good number of the west-coasters), playing west coast servers - sprintnet was giving me some lag PLUS about 7-8% packet loss earlier, and it looked like it was centered on the Stockton, CA routers 2 or 3 steps upstream from the EA servers.

    I tried playing awhile last night after my previous post in this thread and lag was still there. Most of the packetloss and lag had cleared up but it was still a hindrance. I was able to do some low level hunting (titans and cylcopeans in Despise) but still wouldn't venture to more hazardous areas. I could run 10-15 steps before hitting a pause of about 1 second. It is now playable but not satisfactory.

    Sure as :cursing: made it worse for myself & some friends on the East Coast to you. Since you're "fix" we all lag out to no end, worse then before.. WTF is going on! This lag is all in the edge01 @ ea.com's router . Come on guys Please.. Don't fix one route & screw up the another :sad4:.
