    Greetings!

Today we have several new items available on UOGameCodes.com just in time for the holidays! We’ve provided details below, visit UO Game Codes to purchase.

    Smuggler’s Edge

The perfect thief needs a perfect weapon! The Smuggler’s Edge has a 5% chance to proc a stealing attempt when fighting a mob. If the proc is not successful you have a chance of gaining skill in stealing instead. If you have natural stealing skill you have a chance to steal one of two new stealable rares:

    • Smuggler’s Tool Box – Produces lockpicks daily
    • Smuggler’s Lantern – Has Spell channeling, faster cast, and is hued
    Undertaker’s Staff

This weapon is perfect when you’re in a jam! (Or just don’t feel like running.) The Undertaker’s Staff can be used to retrieve your corpse if it’s within 40 tiles and you are not a criminal.

    Merchant’s Earrings

Who needs to haggle with a set of baubles like these? The Merchant’s Earrings are a charged pair of earrings that discounts player run vendor costs per day. Deducts one charge per day, there are two versions: The 40 use version grants a 10% discount and the 90 use version grants a 5% discount.

    Two sides to this.

So more costly than the Japanese store? Bit rubbish.

Awesome. These are items we should be getting for free as an apolgy for screwing up so badly with the last couple of publishes.

Due to us laying off all the QA team, have these wonderful new items to compansate you for the poorly tested publishes and the many more that are bound to be released.

    OR

Excellent items, I love the knife idea. LONG LIVE UO

I saw two characters on Asuka yesterday holding the Smuggler's Lanterns. I wondered where they came from. The lanterns have Spell Channeling but no other special properties. (I don't remember seeing that they have the Faster Casting property....) Each of the two I saw was a different color--one was a kind of pale green and the other seemed like it was just normal colors for a lantern.

Nice items but that limited use item is gonna go unbought it's wasteful. You spend more real money on it than the gold used on the vender unless it's easily rechargable

Have they fixed UOGameCodes? I tried buying a legacy code from them last week repeatedly and it kept saying they were unable to complete the transaction. Told me they were "too busy" and to try back later. I tried over 3 days on two browsers and 2 compueters and still no luck. Another guildmate had a similar problem.

Anyone successfully purchase anything from UOGameCodes in the past few days?

Proc is an abbreviation that refers to a weapon or item activating with the "Chance on Hit" or "Chance on Use" effect (an ability or a spell).

Beats me, seems kinda useless with charges. Suppose they tried to implement a continuous revenue item, but just did it badly. Not nearly powerful enough to warrant the price and eventual loss.

here's a much more accurate description of proc - it's a World of Warcraft type game word - and it saddens me to hear UO developers using it because it shows where they come from and their mindset - here's a hint - we're not a 3d levelling treadmill game and we don't PROC - hehe

There are times you can't reach your bodie. Especially if you heal your self with bandaids or a need them to raise a vet. Or have alot of items you looted on your corpse. I can think of one such area of the top of my head. Dying to irk or something like that then have to walk out to ishnear honor shrine make your way back through the sands and through changelings then survive long enough to get to corpse. Run out of self rez or not enough honor then forget about retrieveing your corpse. Peerless boss encounters other ones if you die or your group dies you aint gonna get your body back for most of your uninsurable items.

It would have helped me at an event we had months back. There were so many dead bodies both people and monsters that I could not find my body. I used ctl shift but still couldn't find it so if I had of had the staff I could have just made it come to me. :D

Actually a DAoC (who knows maybe originally it came from AC,either way...proves my point even further) term originally I`m sure. That would mean WoW got their idea from another game. Well, that would mean Uo got that idea from another game.

Happens all the time, UO`s no different.

I`m glad games borrow ideas from each other, just make an already good game better when good parts of a different game make it into yours/ours.

    Just a thought.

I know of very few warrior-thieves.

They may exist, but the template's really tight and is hard to manage.

Most thieves I know of are mages. This includes PvM thieves, Faction thieves, and non-Faction PvP thieves.

If you wanted the Smuggler's Edge to be usable by most thieves, I would argue it should have been mage weapon - 0, like the Staff of the Magi and the Swords of Prosperity. Maybe alter the other properties if it's a balance issue. (Like take away the SSI.)

What about you all? Are there more warrior-thieves than I think? It's always struck me that the warrior-thief is a fantasy archetype that's really not feasible in UO. Maybe of you squeezed in Chivalry and had no other means of healing, but a thief with Chivalary? Really weird. And not terribly viable in any case.

The faster cast property probably brings them to no penalty, as opposed to the normal -1 that comes with spell channelling.

As for the whole "proc" drama, does it matter what they call it?
If it's a term in common usage, they should use it. If they go along calling "proc" something like "sproing" then it won't mean anything different, and it'll just require more explaining in a lot of cases.
This whole "This is bad because we're not WoW" thing is just plain rubbish. This game isn't WoW, and it will never be WoW, so quit throwing a fit when the devs do anything that remotely resembles WoW.
You know what WoW really is? It's a showcase for modern MMO standards. Blizzard took all the lessons the other MMOs offer, and roll them into one polished package. If the devs do something that resembles WoW, it's because it's likely one of the best ways of doing that.

Seriously, you guys would jump at your own shadows, if you thought it looked like something from WoW

"Proc" = Process, or "Process an Effect". Basically any "Hit: Do Something" mod on a weapon does this already, "proc" is simply terminology.

Can someone please give me a detailed description of what the smuggler's edge really does, and one that I can understand? The description on uogamecodes is very unclear. Also, how much durability does the item have (interesting, since it cannot be powdered)? What does "natural" stealing skill mean? What weapon skill does the blade need?

Well when I used it on test center I had to use the weapon itself to get it to work so I wouldn't be able to use my mage. I tested it on easy stuff like mongbats and shadow wisp and ever so often when I was hitting them it would take an item out of it's backpack. So it would be good for trying to get things like the seed of life, balm of strength, gem of salvation ect.. without having to use the stealing skill because it does it for you.

    Uh, No...

I saw the term used in stuff that predated WoW, in the old files of uo.com I went through trying to research when other things were introduced.

Much how people thought MOB was a WoW term, when it actually comes from MUDs, going back at least 10 years before UO existed (and people played Multiplayer Online games over the net backbone, between school mainframes, via terminals).

This is a bad idea to start off doing. Selling items that grant in-game abilities and boosts.

It won't stop here, people. At some point someone is going to decide to offer even better stuff for sale, then more and more, until players will need to buy stuff to be comnpetitive and successful in UO.

Yet not one comment from the peanut gallery about it yet.

At least MalagAste and most all of you will get some new shinies to collect. For a little extra. Hey, just sell some UO gold, right?

Soulstones bro. Sampires don't make sense either, but oh well, chiv and necro is awesome haha.

If they made these Mage wep i doubt I'd ever stay still in one place long enough to use them but it might be an interesting option. Honestly, the idea of stealing, with a weapon, is absurd for a thief. First rule of stealing, you can't have anything in your hands. Now we have a second option.

Introducing the tank lantern-getting thief. In stores everywhere.

  33. I've always interpreted it as an abbreviation of the programming word procedure. As applied to gaming, it would be some code launched when you use a weapon or spell, which accomplishing something extra beyond what the weapon or spell would normally do.

And so what if the word is also used in WoW, EQ, CoH, or any other game? It's just a word.

It's tempting, especially since I have for years now been attracted to the idea of a warrior-thief for PvM and perhaps for Factions. Once they finally made those stealable consumables the idea became even more attractive...But I can't find a viable, RP-friendly warrior-thief template that could kill anything higher-end than an ogre.

I actually think the necro-paladin or necro-samurai templates make more sense than you think they do.

Fantasy has several examples of paladins or other heroic figures who have been cursed in some way, or used dark magic in pursuit of good aims...

What is Angel from Buffy the Vampire Slayer if not some kind of samurai or paladin, cursed with vampirism?

In the comic book version of Batman vs. Dracula, Batman has to become a vampire, inflicting himself with the curse, in order to defeat Dracula. (In the cartoon movie version he is allowed the dignity of defeating Dracula without taking such a drastic step.)

And on the evil side there's always that undead evil paladin thingie from Dragonlance. The Knight of the Black Rose. (Lord Soth or something?)

For a long time there were complaints about how Karma-dependent Chivalry is, about how impossible it is to play a dark paladin. Time has shown us that it's indeed quite viable, it's just a lot harder and your Chivalry spells will dip below maximum effectiveness.

And really that only makes sense and I'm glad they retained the karma-dependence.

An abbreviation for what? What word is it that it abbreviates?....Ans why abbreviate? Are kids today that lazy?, or just that illiterate?? I've seen both.

As far as World of Warcraft, I wouldn't brag to loud about its data, it saddens me anyone wastes or wasted their time with that loser game.

Last but not least, these cheesey $6.00 items, or is it $5.99????
Obviously mythic is still hard up for cash, seems the layoffs weren't enough for them.

I think the issue is more with the fact they are using abbreviations when selling items. I mean, how can someone be assumed to know what a proc or a mob is?

It is just sloppy really. Same with the great translations.

Heh, you're expecting more from a company that says it wants to bring more "new" customers in, yet only sells new expansions online?

Buy an item that will eventually wear out...so you can lower your vendor fees...then buy the item again in the future...so you can lower vendor fees...then buy the item again...

Heh okay sold! I'll take 4 please!

Many UO players only play UO, so if the term isn't commonly used here then it's not really fair to expect people to know it.
Isn't it normally true that, if you're selling something, you do your best to help your potential buyers understand the product?

They probably just squeezed it in before Christmas, though, so people wouldn't not be able to have it. They probably didn't have time to fix up something better before leaving the office.
Here be benefit of the doubt.

Nothing wrong with online only salesand promo when you consider how many peaple find and play the good F2P games. They never see any shelf space, never get any advertising accept for the internet, yet they still draw millions.

Kinda makes the whole "we`ll never get any new players if its not in stores" arguement seem pointless. I`ve seen SA across the web on serveral different mmo site lists.

    Good nuff IMO.

I'm not familiar with Dragonlance or Buffy, but that Batman vs. Dracula thing is interesting, I didn't know a story like that ever happened, hehe.

I love my Sampire, honestly, it's the easiest way to fight mid-level mobs in PvM (plus I never have to repair anything other than my weapon). As long as the template exists I'll likely use it.

I liked to play as Black Knights in Ogre Battle 64, but they weren't vampires of course :). I think they were the closest to a necro-dexxer in the game though, and could also use heal spells when combined I think from the back row.

By the way, if no one has posted yet, the new weapon, when you steal, reduces your karma on fails or successes, hehe. My thief's template is now 120 swords (purist on the UBW) / 100 steal / 100 stealth / 100 hide / 90 heal / 100 ninj but for the true use of the wep ninjitsu doesn't help, I just wanted to keep tact/anat at 0 so I do less damage per hit so I have more attempts for now.

Contrary to the "insight" provided by the standard World of Warcraft bashers, a "proc" is the initiation of a procedure (proc being short for procedure), and has been a term used by various programmers both in and outside of the gaming industry for ages and ages.

Several Warcraft haters would also try to convince you that the term "bug" evolved from a programming error that occurred with the Silithids in Silithus during the opening of Ahn'Qiraj. They'd also be mistaken.

    *sigh*

So much hate, so little time to scour the gene pool.

Yes... abbreviations and acronyms are the product of the 21st century. Well, except that they were in use back before the 1st century, but whatever it is that helps you sleep better at night.

Your opinion, but I would question what would make a successful game in your opinion, given that, you know, it's the most successful commercial MMOG (and, really, non-MMOG) of all time.

They sell stuff that helps generate revenue. Big deal. I think their choices could be better, and I think stuff that should be craftable in-game could either be made such that it's either a recipe that someone might learn to make something with (hey, a better use for the "recipe" "system"), or stuff that (frankly, I suppose like this) that is cutesy but ultimately unnecessary.

Frankly, to me, the best items have been things like the ladybug lights, the hair color dyes, and maybe this silly corpse dragger (though, I think charges are silly). They at least make sense to some extent.

And really, if Mythic wanted to make some money, I think they should start putting in the game small housing tile collections (robust collections... wall, floor, archways, doorways) that say for $5.99 you entitle your account to use. They might actually make some money on that.

And also, back to the recipe thing, as a crafter, if I could buy a recipe for $3.00 that let me build something in-game, I might actually buy it. It would give me an item that not everyone could craft, and that I could sell in-game. Now, to be fair, I'd probably have a set of items (5 to 7) that were a recipe collection, and sell it for $5.99, and voila, there's some income.

I think selling stuff that adds to the variety of the game is a good idea... it gives Mythic that extra money, it's good from the standpoint of expanding the world, and everyone wins all around. What I don't want to see though is stuff like the bookshelf which everyone asked for, which sells for what, $3-4 each, and the "craftable" version requires a miracle. BAD planning there.

That is a good enough reason to translate it, especially in a sales promotion.

Programmers often forget they're not writing for other programmers, particularly when they speak or invent the math behind systems. Sooner or later this has to be broken down for the lay-person. It's not that things need dumbing down, they just need to be more accessible to the majority of players who are not industry insiders or mathletes.

I don't care where imported terms come from, particularly. There's only one that seems odd to me, it's "toon". If any game should be sticking with the term "avatar" it's Ultima.
