Holy crap. They actually gave us delineated client patch notes instead of mixing it in with the Publish notes or not telling us at all.

    It's a miracle.

I have no idea what it is. Maybe they made it so that when you fail to make one of the new stills, the copper wire you had to get from a thief isn't used up. Quite annoying to have that go poof.

With no talisman on and GM tinkering, your chance to make the still is only 50%. With a talisman on (e.g., the one I have which gives a 21% tinkering bonus), your chance of failing at making the skill is still pretty high. Considering how heavily camped the copper wire spawn will probably be in the near future, it would be nice if the wire didn't have such a high chance of disappearing.

This probably isn't what got changed, though....

I was glad to see that fix too. The way a fix for one thing breaks another thing is a long-standing gripe of mine in this game, it is good to see it addressed well and quickly this time.

Five gold stars and a brownie point to the devs.

Very fast acting on the stealing fix
Goes to show ya, when given half a chance they can and will come through :)

On edit: I'd be willing to bet they're working a fix for the boat thing. I'd also wager that it's very bloody complicated and a beast of a bug to squash.

  14. Ok so they provided a fix........ has anyone tested every aspect of this fix??

    1. Can we steal from monsters with or without the Smugglers Edge?

    2. Does Stealing from packies work again?

    3. Any other issues that stemmed from the first fix?

Well, other than the rude awakening when you first enter...lol it's not that bad. Just get a provo and you're pretty much set. Dexxers are probably going to be screwed because of the firebreath though, but a mystic dexxer might be able to crossheal, not sure.

Also keep in mind you can mark anywhere on the island, so the best recourse is going to end up being stealthers to get you there, then bards to keep you there.

The thing that will turn off a lot more people is the fact this quest just basically gives you books...or a book. So it seems. But I'm wondering if virtue weapons work on these new demons....

  18. According to the cliloc file there is a lot more to this quest - collecting the books is just the first step of this phase :)

so more grindfest and insta death - all in the name of "a challenge"? they're 'pushing' mystics again? Don't ya just love forced playstyle?
Your death robes and complaints here will keep me entertained.
    ...meanwhile, :sleep2:

Ya my main char is a dexxer and he is not a sampire-dexxer I also do not have provo or even play with any others that have it. so like I said it just anther quest I will not be able to do just like the last quest they put in the abyss.

Not sure what makes them think that insta death is fun. also this time of the year not many people are playing as well as how low the population is already so group hunting is pretty much the thing of the past on a lot of shards.

either way ill just buy the items (if there even any good) from those that can and will do the grind...

I don't think sampires will do well. The demons can have 120 poisoning skill and they have a firebreath. Since they have ??? HP I assume the firebreath does at least 60 damage, but I'm not sure (I avoided their firebreath since my default PvM test style is mystic bard).

Do you have a mystic mage? A rising colossus will tank for quite a long time.

    Two things:

    1. There is nothing wrong with a monster either not soloable by anyone or not soloable by a particular template (tamer; sampire; etc.) that is known for being able to solo things.

    2. This is Test Center. Typically the Test Center is for testing and what we see on it isn't necessarily what we'll see in the final draft.

The problem arises when there's a swarm of such monsters in a relatively small area. There seem to almost always be several on screen at once and more nearby. It gets worse when its a "one item per monster if one even drops" thing similar to how the blackrock golems were with that special armor. In the end only a few people will bother fighting the things because most who try in the start for a few hours and get nothing out of a list of 10 items needed to finish the quest will give up and leave, especially so when it takes about 10 minutes to finish off one of the things, and that's only if you manage to pull one of them away by itself.

The only difference here is there aren't any boats allowed in Ter Mur, so the chances of people hunting them even in the end will probably be much less than Magincia's golems were. And you can push that number down farther because the final reward is nothing more than a book.

They need to be difficult, not frustratingly annoying. Far less HP, somewhat more damage, some sort of unique special attacks, and a "top damagers get one" kind of drop thing is what really is needed at my best guess. There's probably a better way to do it, though.

Then we shall see if they change it.

If this is being likened generally to the Void Manifestations spawn, then I for one didn't find it as bad as many people said. Even the frustration seemed appropriate, and the kind of frustration I look back at as a moderately fond memory.

UO's always done a rather poor job at balancing content. It's either too hard, or too-easily solo-able by the select template. Rarely have they ever succeeded in making something frustrating enough to be fun but not frustrating enough to ruin the fun. (I'm not counting the EM monsters, which succeed in the balance not all the time, but to a greater degree.)

    -Galen's player

EDIT: I also have to add that we as players have historically also done a bad job at judging content.

    ...

If the whole idea of the quest is to kill monsters for a bunch of books to turn in, is there really a need to make them THAT hard to begin with? If this quest is the first in the series, is there really a need to make it THAT hard to complete?

For something like this, there isn't really a need for the "pet class or die" concept. At this point, the monsters should be about mid level in difficulty and the books should drop at a level to be considered "uncommon" (maybe the "Tattered Remnants" level of drop rarity) so that it still takes some time to collected the needed items.

While it's nice to have a decent challenge for PvM, that's really something to be saved for the end portions of quest chains, not the beginning.

    IMO of course.

I just looked at the relevant thread on the Test Center forum.

Per that thread, it took 40 minutes.

I would indeed agree that that's too long for a non-boss monster, at the very start of an event cycle, whose primary purposes is for us to gather items from to turn in.

I'm thinking, personally, 5 to 10 minutes in a small group, 3 to 5 in a large one, and 20 by one's self (if it is solo-able at all).

If the idea is to make it hard to get the items to turn in? I would recommend that not every monster drop one.

I think we'd be considerably less frustrated by killing three creatures in 42 minutes (1 every 14 minutes) that each had a 1 in 3 chance of dropping an item, than by killing 1 creature in 42 minutes that had a 100% chance of dropping the item.

I could be wrong once we actually start doing it! But that's my supposition.

    -Galen's player

EDIT: Though, as this thread suggests, it's possible that on a production shard it'll be so-mobbed that even at the current level it won't be anywhere near as hard.

Remember that the first few encounters with something can be a bit more difficult than it is later, once you learn the weaknesses.

I remember the first day Paragons were on TC - a single paragon Meer Eternal cut a swath through over a dozen players outfitted in arties and runic gear, after attempts by 1-4 players all ended in shades of grey - when it finally dropped, it had over 100 arties on it that it had looted over several hours.

Most other times they've got something interesting worth going after on them, though. Paragons had the new minor artifacts, for example.

And even if someone does find a weakness it's not going to matter much because the spawn will end up largely abandoned by then. I'd expect the crowd will be half the size (or less) within a matter of days due to a combination of frustration, exhaustion, and a reward most people wouldn't care much about. It won't even end up like the golems in Magincia where at least someone was still there most of the time fighting, even if it was only one person. This time there's nothing to sell from doing it.

There doesn't always have to be a stellar reward or anything (I actually love the whole scrolls and book thing) or even a reward at all, but there does need to be consideration for how people will react to what's placed before them. It seems like most of the major live events in the last few years not handled by the EMs are just a swarm of incredibly annoying to defeat high HP enemies that everyone gives up on after a few days because its just not worth the trouble, and that needs to change.

We've had this happen what now.. at least 5 seperate times in a row? With the same outcome every time, even. And half of those at least had rewards that were decent enough draws for interaction, unlike this. Time for a bit of pattern recognition, really.

See, that would be a nice outcome! It's something that could even possibly draw people in. Unfortunately though, there's not even a hint that there's a chance that could happen. In fact, the text they added seems to lay out exactly the opposite outcome.

Of course, every time they've tried that kind of city involvement past the addition of Ver Lor Reg something has gone wrong in the plans and it's ended up either stagnating for years before something underwhelming is finally done or eventually just being ignored entirely.

I think the best part of the previous event cycle was the war on lost lands desert. While the monsters were not too tough, they weren't too easy either especially when they spawn in 20s. We were gaining loyalty points, crystalline blackrock and most important of all, if your side succeeded in pushing the front line of the battlefield to the other side's camp, you would get a random reward from the Npcs on your side. They also introduced the Bane Dragons and some new potions, which can only be obtained from the quests offered by the event npcs.

All templates participated on that event, I even saw a roleplayer guild assisting their side in routing the other side, with only GM crafted equipment, and they succeeded. Some new players were collecting the untouched loot on corpses to make some gold. Maybe it became a little monotonous since they kept the event for forty days but it was sure fun for the first two weeks.

Crysta is right, after that, we saw Bane Chosen guards, Blackrock Golems and eventually duplicates of Virtuebane. I always thought they would eventually use that war system again but apparently it was a one time thing. :(

At been doing them stupid demons and at first was not to bad.
Had like 5 or so killing them. Mystic/disco seems to be the best.

Tamers need to heal from outside do to aoe...
But now after 2 days, theres no one there..

Had one other person trowing/dexxer i think necro..
Killed it but was borring as hell..

And only 1 scroll droped, thats it..
If you want to make it harder as the event goes on, ok np.

But at the moment lower there dam HP and keep them away from the zone in, no luring to anywere need it also.

That way stop greifers and anyone who wishes to exploit a safe spot.

But there nothing more then a neon sort of colored demon with high hp..
I see it busy for first week then that be it.....

Ill be back trying provo/disco/mystic soon as i find some more bait...i ment help...

    Have fun kids..

/agreed. That was the first time in a long time that I could use almost Every char I have to get in on the action. Almost started to take my mule once to just cast a little, or heal in the back. There's be no 'back' in this case- back to gank reptiles? This will be a good example of Forced Playstyle, enjoy. When most people are done w/ it, what use will it be then? - unless they start dropping power scrolls

Frankly as far as I'm concerned sampires/melee deserve to rule over the rest of you like gods in PVM, given that they're the only template that ever gets HIT BY MONSTERS. Honestly I don't know how the rest of you ever manage to die.

"Good Warriors" that "don't get hit" aren't dealing with an RNG-based combat system, are they?

Seriously, in order to die on my archer I need to be doing something REALLY stupid. Nothing is going to cast me to death before I can run off somewhere and heal.

On my sampire? All I need is one of those "Why did I miss five times in a row?!" RNG streaks against the wrong enemy and I'm taking a dirtnap even if I did everything right.

Greater dragon that breathes for 60 and hits for 50 through max resists? Man that stuff HURTS when it lands around the same time.

And some bard that comes in naked with a harp and makes everything kill itself is going to complain like he's got a raw deal or something? At least tamers have pets they need to take care of, and anything that target switches can put them in a bind.
