i wonder how hard hitting this will be.

will the return to brit houses be killed.
    if so how far back?

will the AOS free trail account houses too?

should be interesting to see how far reaching this is gonna be.

speaking of which, suppose i should go empty my return to brit houses just in case, haha

They have already said a bunch that the RTB and bugged houses will not be decaying. That you have to page on those for manual deletion.

If I close down an account that has a house how long will that house stand before it decays?

    Does anyone know?

Re: [UO Herald] Reminder: Housing Decay Reactivated on 01/16

Someone might want to confirm with someone over at Mythick about how long the decay process really is, because as far as I've always been aware, it was a 7 day period with the first two stages (slightly and somewhat) lasting more than 24 hours.

Also would like to know whether or not the 90 day grace period still applies before a house falls or if all unpaid accounts are just going to crumble when it goes live again.

If it where my house in danger I would assume it was going right into condemned mode!

    or even fall right away!

To be safe you need to pay your account now!

I cant wait to see how many people once this goes live complain about losing there house when they where given more than enough warning

Re: [UO Herald] Reminder: Housing Decay Reactivated on 01/16

The grace period still applies. If the account has been inactive for 90 days on 1/16, then the house will go condemn and the decay process will start. If the account has not been inactive for 90 days, then it will not condemn until it has been inactive for 90 days.

Re: [UO Herald] Reminder: Housing Decay Reactivated on 01/16

If you know 100% that a house is bugged and should be gone. Not, suspect it, but KNOW, it's quite easy to get the house deleted.

On your shard mark runes to multiple homes that you know as a fact to be bugged.

1- Fill a runebook or mutliple runebooks.
2- Lock it down on the steps of your house.
3- Send an E-mail to mesanna detailing that the homes are confirmed to be bugged. How they are bugged. Why you know they're bugged.
4- Send her the coordinates to your house with the runebook out front.
5- Tell her she can take the runebook whenever she likes to delete the bugged homes.
6-If 2 weeks go by and she hasn't responded. Forward the initial email. Remind her you have a large number of the bugged homes on your shard in that runebook.

Mesanna is actually very responsive on this issue. Legends once suffered HUNDREDS of bugged homes owned by a small number of exploiters. She deleted hundreds of bugged homes, in several stints. The amount of space cleared opened up nearly a half dozen castle spaces in one area.

It's not easy for EA to fix the homes, but if you want them gone, EA will remove them.

Had about 15 or so to clean out - only 3 left. Will finish up this week. It was alot of bank stuffing on other shards and turning in clean up stuff.

Now I'm enjoying filling the houses with nonsense crap like runes and single bandages in boxes to throw off the IDOC hunters. Ha ha savages! Enjoy camping my 18x18's full of boxes with non-sense stuff. Like worthless bods (DC normal smalls anyone) and crap.

Re: [UO Herald] Reminder: Housing Decay Reactivated on 01/16

    Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Again, would be nice to know if they are applying the old rules or if, due to the account management fiasco, some special ruleset will take precedence.

If the houses I'm "concerned" about fall, the only issue will be whether or not EA gets another $12.99 out of me before I shut those particular ones down anyway. The question is designed to determine whether I "need" to have them on by Monday, or if normal rules will allow me to wait until the first of the month and then reactivate them long enough to drop them and turn the accounts back off.

Re: [UO Herald] Reminder: Housing Decay Reactivated on 01/16

Do we have this from somewhere official? I'm not disputing your information, just making sure that someone at EA is sure that's how it's intended to work for this. Given the way account management was "handled," I'm just crossing my Ts and dotting my Is.

I think she has some of that official from a jeff post in the older thread and some of it appears to be reasonable inferences from his post.

No they haven't. Not officially. Mr. Skalski has supposedly tweeted this info to another Stratics poster.

Not the same thing as an official announcement. Not even the same as posting the info here directly, personally.

Seriously. Best to assume the worst instead of waiting because I don't think these warnings are for those who only pay every other month or whatnot just to keep the house standing so best to be safe than sorry.

Re: [UO Herald] Reminder: Housing Decay Reactivated on 01/16

My only fear is Murphy's law......

What can go wrong,... will go wrong.... big time.

We are taking for granted that the 90 day limit bit will ether start at the time of the turn on or that the 90 day will be already counted in and the 5 day decay will start.

What if the 90 days counter started back in august when the accounts decay shut down??
90 days is well past.... dont laugh... trusting EA systems and code is like playing russian roulette.

I can see it now.... houses fall all over every shard..... all at once. Tigress is heard to wimper "my precious precious..."

AFAIK this is wrong, if you re-activate your account after the 90 day period your house will uncondemn as long as it hasn't fallen yet but it does take until next server up. so if you activate your account and it is slated to collapse that same day you need to page a GM and hope and pray.

I'm really really curious to see how this plays out. How many mistakes there are, and how bad the screaming becomes.

There's a phrase in the Bible that I expect to come true..."A great wailing and gnashing of teeth!" heheh

    HA

Over a year ago I HANDED a runebook full to Mesanna on my server and nothing was done. Then I ran and found every single one and emailed her a list with coordinates (I even asked an EM what format lat/long or x/y). A year later they were all still up.

Re: [UO Herald] Reminder: Housing Decay Reactivated on 01/16

It is NOT possible to know what houses are placed by the WBB accounts... Unless you personally know who did it... and really seriously how is that going to happen???

I know of ONE such house... still standing... but there are 100's of houses all over the land that you NEVER see anyone in on or around... and they NEVER change. Same ugly deco on them for the last 4 years at least... but are they WBB homes or are they just folk who never play but still pay???

Who's to know? So really something needs done about it to find what houses should be there and which should NOT.

Tired of folk using free housing. I pay for each and every one of my plots.

I personally placed dozens of them. I assumed they would fall but they never do. it's not really my fault. I don't even consider them MY houses. they are just EA owned dumps as far as I'm concerned.

this is something that has to be fixed from a development standpoint. if the accounts are inactive then the houses should start decaying on Jan 16th. why is that so difficult to implement?

When the houses start falling should I wear flame proof clothing and a hard hat when the dam breaks?

2012 may be the posts festival that brings down Uhall if this becomes a mess :)

    I kid, I kid :p

I think it will turn out fine. Just wish they would clarify a bit more on the announcement.

I emailed her few months ago, the house in question was gone within the week.

Below are facts, I have done it/timed it.

Resizing your house will uncondemned the house, the 7 day timer has no effect on it.

Before decay was turned off houses fell in 5 days, maybe this will be fixed back to 7 days when decay is turned on.

Still doing the happy dance too? Ezekiel Zane that is the best response your going to get. Here is the thing if you don't want to lose something pay for it. That pretty much prevents any issue there. If its not paid for don't expect it to be covered because if there was a mistake you can't even complain that your a paying EA customer. I think that housing decay for folks that don't pay is a good thing. It will free up space which will allow for things like player towns and honestly larger homes for some. If you don’t want to lose it make sure the account is active. Do not assume that paying will be easy, make sure the account is current now. Also for the IDOC hunters I guess now will be a good time for me to start saving to buy things from the past that I never got!

I'm not concerned about losing a house. My accounts are paid for. I know how the game works.

My post was more in reference to the fact that Mr. Skalski tweets crap to players that should, at some point, make it into some official communication of some sort.

This direction that more information is available via Twitter and Facebook is what I have a problem with. What's the UOHerald for?

I was only mentioning that the twitter was the best we are likely to get on this. Its a fast response to a direct question. Is it all that official an announcement but at least its an answer.

Re: [UO Herald] Reminder: Housing Decay Reactivated on 01/16

Actually your wrong... By tweeting Jeff you are going directly to him, not a 3rd party website, not a Q&A team.. no-one else but Jeff. As much as UOS has enjoyed alot of activity from the Devs in the past it still not 'the' offical Forums for UO and UO Herald is only for offical notices that have gone though QC etc (As a note, Jeff will be posting up a new year letter this week). You cannot ask people questions on UO Herald, you cannot directly contact anyone via UO Herald. The website will also be upgraded at some point this year as Jeff has mentioned. People have mentioned that they wont create an account on Twitter, Facebook etc.. all well and good but then dont complain when the person you want to hear from dosnt want to post on a forum you use. If you want to ask a question and get it answered by Jeff.. then go and ask Jeff on Twitter. You say you have a problem with having to go to Twitter/Facebook to get info.. I have a problem going though ANY 3rd party site to get the info but needs must and all that.

If it isnt on UO Herald then it isnt 'offically' released yet and Jeff is answering QUESTIONS that people have asked him. By all means keep complaining about it then we'll loose that line of communication too. Personally, I'm pleased he's using twitter and talking to peeps. Its alot more than can be said for all the other Devs.

Want fast it is called a Town Cryer. Or better yet the login window. Town Cryer still stuck on the turkey threat. Hell he wants to Twitter he can make an alter ego GM named TWITter and use the ingame shout out that covers all shards at once. More players got information while logged in and from those logged in when info was released on chat. They would have more attachment to the game and paying for there accounts. Playing the game more instead of surfing outside. Why after getting your fingers in our wallet would you want us exposed to outside temptation. I shouldn't have to go outside the game to get information about the game while being bombarded by adverts for other games.

But never seen so many in the boondocks running about looking for dropped house then when they dropped all those inactive account houses all at once. They should have a mass drop again. But spread across the housing areas the NPC pickpockets like the brit invasion. And paragon speed Horde Minions snatching and running about. Maybe anything mass storage and above the house is crushed by a packhorse eating Stygy area locked to the house.

    Wrong about what exactly?

I'm pretty sure if I have anything I need to say or ask of a dev then I'm not too worried about it being private. I don't care if QA, a Stratics Mod or anyone else for that matter reads it. That's what forums are for. I have no need to personally communicate with him

    Um... yes it is.

I'm pretty sure Jeff has the same constraints upon his communication regarding his job as producer of UO no matter what method he chooses to use. Contract, NDA, pretty sure he's bound by some agreement between him and his employer if it pertains to UO or any other company owned games.

Again, Stratics is the Official UO forums. Ask EA.

Hmm... Twitter = 3rd party. Facebook = 3rd party. Stratics = 3rd party. All are by definition 3rd party, simply different.

    Exactly my point. Thank you.

I'm happy for you. I don't use Twitter and I won't be anytime soon. I have no need for it or Facebook. At least where UO players are concerned, I'm not in the minority here. I could care less whether Jeff or any other dev likes to use Twitter or post on Facebook. My complaint is the use of these venues while not simultaneously putting out the information on the official, long standing avenues of communication. The UOHerald and by default it being linked to by Stratics. By all means tweet and facemash all you want but respect that the majority of players do not and ensure that significant tidbits of information make their way to the official information portal in a timely manner posted by an official representative of EA/Mythic and not second hand by another player.

Re: [UO Herald] Reminder: Housing Decay Reactivated on 01/16

Actually I think you'll find that UOs ISNT the offical forum for UO. UO has no offical forum currently. UOS has enjoyed being the more popular fan site and one that has been visited the most by the Dev's but it isnt the offical forum or website in any way (Otherwise you'ld see Mythic and Bioware Logo's at the bottom of the page.. and eh.. nope there's nothing there).

There is no contractal reason for the Dev's to post here and Jeff has been quite clear that he prefers to be contacted via Twitter and will answer questions there quicker than anywhere else. If you dont like Twitter then thats your choice, Jeff obviously dosnt like using forums which is HIS choice.

Now you can moan and complain about Jeff not posting to a site that isnt affiliated to EA in any way other than a 'fan site' while those who want to know whats going on proceed to speak to the main guy in person. Ifs your choice and at the end of the day we all make our own holes. But if by me reposting Jeffs tweets for the benefit of those not wishing to go on Twitter is just going to result in people winging like babies then I wont bother anymore and you can stew in your own communication blackout on your own!

Re: [UO Herald] Reminder: Housing Decay Reactivated on 01/16

Well then my question still stands as to the duration of the IDOC stages, and the veracity of the information in the Stratics playguide is "worst case" at best, since the guide you took the information from indicates that the system spends 1-2 days in the first four stages, while the Stratics playguide indicates each stage is exactly 1 day.

Of course, their own guide on the information is contradictory at best as well. It indicates "about 5 days," but they can't even determine how long each stage specifically lasts in their own guide.

    So...

Instead of quoting bad information, how about someone over at Mythic check on how the system ACTUALLY works and provide FACTUAL information on the process both for us here, and more importantly, on their severely outdated, information lacking playguide as well.

And yet you'll find every GM that services Ultima Online suggesting that you take your non-relevant issues to the forums over at uo.stratics.com.

Funny that while UOS isn't the official forum, it's definitely used in an official capacity by the people supporting the game.
