Have you noticed that everyone has a different idea about things on UO? Let's get some stuff straight!

MYTH: Some mounts are faster than others.
BUSTED! All mounts are the same speed. Your speed depends on computer power and connection.

MYTH: Skill gains are faster in felucca.
BUSTED! While some things in fel are worth doing, like mining and chopping wood, skill gain does not benefit!

MYTH: Luck actually does something and gives better item intensities on dropped loot.
TRUE: I guess it's true, but no one post-AOS has actually noticed the difference!

MYTH: Everyone in PvP hacks. Speed hacks and scripts.
BUSTED! Actually, not many really do. It just seems like it because a lot of guys have extremely fast connections and are able to outrun you. A very low ping also makes for quicker casting. Also, skilled players are adept at timing spells, switching weapons, and hitting macros while running. UOAssist is great for setting keys for potions and small macros, which can also make someone seem like they're hacking. Even if guys are running modded clients that show fields as tiles, it doesn't automatically make them good players. So, everyone in fel is hacking? Maybe a couple, but the majority? No!

I believe you are correct here. There is a distant memory from long ago of a dev posting that all mounts move the same speed...but that some such as Llamas, appear faster because of their size and the fact that they have fewer animations to draw.

You forgot a classic, female dexxers hit more often than males ;).

I've never played a female dexxer so I'll never know haha.

Seriously though, and not to muddy your cute thread idea about that TV show (no sarcasm intended), most PvP guilds run speed or have it just to turn it on when other people do. It's pretty popular among Fel guilds, and most PvPers I've talked to feel it is a necessity since UO does absolutely nothing, or cannot do anything, to police speedhacking. Not as many run other things though.

    Just my experience.

    On the next episode.

What about eating? If I fail at ressing someone, I eat and the spell works.

Much as it's been poo-poo'd I swear this one is true as well. Less failures when having eaten.

Devs swear eating does nothing for success and gain chances any more but I can guarantee they do. It's far too consistent. Fizzle 3-4 times in a row, eat, success. Keep fed and don't fizzle in the first place, all the time, every time.

Moving too, is one of those. I can stand on a tile and fizzle trying to cast an EV 10 times in a row, then I move one tile and successfully cast EVERY time...

Its all RNG, eating does nothing, devs wouldn't tell you that it does nothing for you if it does. Although I will sit here and read the :coco: things people come up with lol
  9. That's called the RNG. Unless you have 120 Magery you can and will fail to cast 8th circle spells. None of my chars have eaten for years now, and I never have problems.

Again, that's the RNG at work.

You can call it RNG all you want, if it's consistent for hundreds of millions of actions for several years, I beg to differ. You can believe whatever you want, I know it's not the RNG, it might be an NG at best, but if it's this consistent it's definitely not R.

I still believe there is some code left over from the old 8x8 resource squares and when eating food mattered. Nothing is going to convince me otherwise except if I get to take a look at the server code myself.

Eating and 8x8 is a major myth! Again that had to do with issues related to generating rolls determining success/failure.

Eating has NEVER mattered in UO. Back in 2003 (I believe) the devs did discuss introducing eating influencing game actions, but it was tabled and never implemented.

Now, about your RNG versus NG comment...
The issue IS with the RNG code, BUT you are correct when you state that an observation reproduced over many years is not (R)andom.

A few years back I and a few others investigated the repeated failure of a res (or any spell really), move 1 tile and res is successful phenomenon. It is the performance of ANY other action after a series of failures that "bump" the RNG resulting in a new outcome, i.e. spell casting success.

Simply, the issue results when the RNG algorithm is "swamped" and sends a roll for an action, and that RNG roll somehow becomes "stuck" and reused for every subsequent call to the same function, e.g. spell casting res.

The "swamped" part comes from the RNG receiving more calls for rolls than it can handle. Even if only 100 people are playing, how many times do you think calls to the RNG are made in 1 minute? Almost every action in UO requires a roll from combat to mining to loot determination. Consider that when item properties and luck were introduced the "stuck" problem happened more. Why? Because luck requires so many more rolls to decide on the outcome of loot compared to pre-luck.

The fix is to identify why the RNG roll gets stuck at all and how the swamping of the RNG occurs. We had some theories at the time, and I even put forth a workplan to EA to investigate and fix the problem, but it was rejected.

eating in uo should so matter it's not funny. You don't eat, you lose stamina. and your spells don't work, weapon doesn't swing as fast, you don't run as fast etc. etc.

not only that but any in game taverns that sell food should have a 5x mark up. make all of sosarias taverns 5 star establishments.

Also if you drink alcohol or our poisoned you should stagger around and if drunk fall down.

make cooks and fishermen in uo more viable.

I'm not taking this guys word on any of this....

YES you do gain skills faster in old school areas,
& some mounts are faster then others on most PCs,
DOH Mostly everyone who claims to be good at PvP is
using speeder or client mul mods.

FYI Back in the day you had to eat food, I think I remember starving once..
Seems eating food in UO has gone the way of alot of skills that have no uses.

NEXT TIME you do something like this don't do it half azzz'd make a video don't just start posting crazy rants about things that you know nothing about..
