being an old fart (and yes, smelling like one too) i greedilly snapped up my rewards whenever i got my yearlly hit of them.

and after checking out all the fine pixil crack up for the 10 year vet rewards all i can think is that i want it all!!!!!

then i looked at my accounts.
    no open picks left.

so i was thinking.... what we need to do here is get them to sell vet reward enhancment tokens on their webpage.

something like 3 vet rewards for $20 or something.

    Hope not.
Do you always get all you want to your birthday?
There will always be some selling vet rewards ingame, I had seen many Siege newbies selling rewards to get their first house or something else.

i think anyway for EA to see more profit from UO is an extremely good idea.

    MONEY TALKS: GREAT IDEA.

keep in mind brokers will always be selling the vet rewards for a price that is slightly lower. so you have to make it low enough so that people don't think twice and restrict it by account age. IE: you can't get a 10 year vet reward if your account is 2 year.

another idea: let someone who is <1 year buy into the 1st-3rd year. screw it. that shows commitment and won't offend the decayearlings among us

You can buy them ... it just takes a few hundred dollars and delivery takes a few years ;-)

They absolutly need an items store. They have done it before with spring decor items, and I think they should make it a monthly thing. If its one thing I know from playing free games... people will pay money for glitzy crap. And it costs nothing to maintain.

Free income, hopefully would lead to more people working for the game.

I don't like it, it will hurt the game. Rich(RL) people should not have advantage over poor ingame.

It's ok with some deco items but not if they do give resources or help with combat or crafting.

Also some can't control them self and will ruin their RL ecomomy. I respect EA want to make money but they need to be very careful how it effect the balance ingame.

Bying a 7th char slot is ok, you can only do that once on an account. Buying 2 times the rewards a year may be ok as long you only can do it once on each account. This way you limit the damage it will do to the game.

Lets say I want upgrade my 11 years account to double rewards picks for all the years, I will then have to pay lets say 10$ for the 3 pics year one, 4$ a year with one new pick and 7$ a year with 2 picks.
Or I could choose to to take one year at the time and pay 12$ for year one and later upgrade year 2 too and pay 5$ and 9$ a year when I get to the years with 2 picks.

This way it will still depend of how many years you had played. But I still don't like it.

  7. A vet reward hould always remain vet reward. Just play long enough to get another pick the next time. If you want it on your bithday, there is always next year.

  8. Our two oldest accounts don't have any picks left either, but I'm going to wait till they hit 108 in five months and pick up the ones for 9th yr. Our younger accounts will be used to get the younger rewards like the box. So I'm happy to wait till then, but if they were to sell them at uogamecode I be in line like all the rest, but not till 2009, way I look at it we got an 11th anniv coming out and it be my luck they post something about buying something for it and I'll have to have it ;)

As you say, you were greedy. And are still greedy. And then, trying to justify a way to be still more greedy. But, instead of destroying the vet reward system, why don't you just wait until they show on vendors? Buy it. Instant gratification.

except he wasn't asking to be GIVEN what he wants for his birthday. Can't speak for him, but I know when I don't get what I want for my birthday I go out and BUY it...which sounds like his plan as well. :thumbup1:

Maybe to keep it from being abused, allow a one-time enhancement (much as some of the other enhancements you buy for your account) - I know you suggested such in a later post - I was thinking something a little more straight forward - like buy 3 for 20 bucks or buy 3 +1 every year for like 50 bucks (LOL - i know that's a lot).

    Anyways, it's a neat thought...

Since there is not just like ONE addation for playing the game for eleven years there are now ALOT of choices.

I myself have spent my rewwards gathering many of the item from the past, but now there is NO way with my 2 actuve accounts I will be able to gather them all again

So I Agree I should be able to purchase them just like previous awards / rewards have been made avail BUT....

If i do chose ot purchaes them I should be only able to purchase them ONE of Each item for my account, not over and over.

That way I can continue my collection wihtout having to support a gold farmer, or in game scammer or duper.

I can support UO, to bad that translates to EA but we can't win them all.

    Poo....

    So your saying....
That now you think that the redemption box and the bloody pentagram are better than the cannon you had to have for deco or the banner you had to have 4 years ago???

No need to go to EA. I have 34 unclaimed Vet rewards. Say 10 Mil, in game - shard of my choice - for a 1st - 5th year vet reward. 15 Mil, same deal, for 6th - 9th year reward. 20 Mil for a 10 year vet reward.

It's an option, just for you. I know you couldn't possibly wait to see if EA will start selling these vet rewards on line next year. In the meantime, I'm not above a little profiteering from a very rich Canadian. You know you really want that bloody pentagram. There is no reason to wait till your birthday. Fulfill your desire, nay, your NEED for instant gratification as soon as the publish comes out.

You know how to get a hold of me.
    Q

I also think EA should start selling a few more things on line at their game code store. Don't know if they will, but there are a few desirable things, like vet rewards that folks would pay for.

They already do have an advantage...they buy UO gold instead of making it themselves. Anyways, to the op, you dont think these items will be available on vendors? Give it a few months, prices will drop. Look at the Polar Bear ethy, you can get one for 3 mil now.

I can't believe you made this a rich vs poor issue!

I think this is a great idea. I have played this game on and off since UOR and yes I wish my account was fully vested but it isnt. When I decide to leave and return again I would like to have this game online for me to return to. This is a great revenue idea!

As for the rich vs. poor issue you so lamely brought up. 2 of the players in my guild I would classify as poor but they buy items/gold when they can because they like upgrading (there is no other word for it) their accounts. I am rich by noooooooooooooooooo means but I have bought items also. You have been here for as long as I can remember visiting stratics and I would assume you are rich with in game wealth (due to longevity) and I would also assume because you "have" you dont want others to "have" showing the liberalism you stated in your post.

    hehe.
i like it when people go buck nutty for no reason.
    (up the dosage!)

    lets see.
we all like to have one or 2 ethys on a shard, eh?
so i have 21 developed toons (3 accounts) on 10 north american shards.
then of course there is Euro/drach/ocean

so lets just say one ethy per account per shard.
    thats like what..... 39?

ok, not to mention that im trying to collect all the statues.
why? cause ive been here since day one and need a hobby while playing my hobby.
so thats what.... 23 plus the 2 new ones so 25.
(just on one shard, cause im not greedy)

and a couple vet reward cloaks would be nice, again, i dont want more then the normal person would have, so maybe one per account..... per shard.
    so thats what..... another 39?

thats not even getting into full soulstones, and dont even get started on house decor!!!!

i think i know where the problem is for some of ya.
you are micro managing this problem.
you are thinking of yourself and your what..... 2 developed characters? on one shard.
    macro manage.
    think on a bigger scale.

    but yes.
in the end it comes down to the fact that i have a lot of ground to cover.
i like to be able to log onto any shard and jump onto any guy and go play.
there are a lot of nice people out there that are a hoot to play with.

is having no vet rewards a game ending thing?
    no.
    its a nice thing.

and this was a suggestion, nothing more.
you can buy tokens that will make your characters for you.
you can buy tokens to get items that WHERE PROMISED TO ONLY BE AVAILABLE TO PEOPLE WHO PREORDERED EXPANSIONS and did we get mad, no. you can buy heritage tokens, you can buy soulstones you can buy tokens for anything.
    so why not vet rewards?

why should i have to give my money to a vender who probablly got all his items and money from dupeing, when i could give it dirrectlly to EA.
    then im happy.
EA is happy cause they are getting more money.
my warrior "Dirty Sanchez" on Lake Sup is happy cause he can now ride an ethy.
    its win win win.

No I'm not rich ingame, I don't care much about gold and items. I do have at least 4 reward picks, maybe more so I really don't need to buy codes for more and doubt I will if it become possible.

When I speak about rich and poor, I did not mean ingame.
A player with only one account do get less picks than me. I had had at least 4 accounts active the last 9 years, that's 4 times as many rewards as for one with only one account.

There are some very nice new rewards and having my own wood and ore spot in house sounds nice but I really don't need them, there are trees and ore right outside my house. Think my 4 picks will be enough for now.

Still I understand some who have no pick left and only one account may want more picks and I know EA may want to get some money from it but I really rather saw the ones who need picks buy the items ingame than with RL money.

I don't like RL money to give advance ingame even when I do know my 4+ accounts are an advantage. The reason I have them is only one char slot on Siege.

A very good way to put it. Wait until more and more people realise they "need" those rewards and start polls about it and you'll have your tokens. Patience. EA can't go around doing stuff that signifies their admittance to milking everything out of this game either, so.. :scholar:

And it's not like newbies will be riding Ethie Cu Sidhe because there's the char age restriction.

I wouldn't mind them selling them but not for the price you say. I would go for like $100 per year reward so $1100 would be just about right if your account was old enough to actually be able to use one of those new 11 year ones.

Bit harsh don't ya think? I'm not greedy, and frankly don't see the harm you state. Actually, the only "downside" I can see logically is relative to what else Mythic might do. I still think they need to put a NPC into the game allowing for turn-in of an old vet reward for a selection credit. If they did this, then chose to sell a vet token, I'd have no concern at all. None of the items, at any year, have any real balance effect. You may be able to pose an argument otherwise reference ethereals, but chargers take that one away. These things are gifts, at least the free ones are. If they choose to slap a $10 fee on an additional pourchase, it hasn't demeaned the gift in any way. For EA to generate revenue from something that does not effect play balance is something I feel they should embrace, not shy away from. I'm not against inserting additional vet rewards into the equation after selections have already been made by players, but must say, doing so with no means for players to attain them other than waiting it out, doesn't sit so well with me.

NO bottom line VET (veteran) rewards are there for people who have played for that many years so no.... tokens for it would contradict "VET" but im up for paying $ at a year im at to buy more options than the 2 we get. I.E 1 years can get as many 1 year tokens as they desire, 9 year people (for example) can get as many 9 year tokens as they wish for "x" amount of "$" to go into UO's pocket to further the game and keep i alive more :)

I think at the very least we should be able to swap the vet robes for the equivilant dresses.

I am against the idea. Vet rewards are just that. I am actually one of those with a large expendable income. I could buy an S-load of that stuff. Then it isn't Vet rewards though. Honestly if there is something you really have to have, there is someone selling it for game gold pieces. I would agree that maybe some items, like the robes or capes for dresses should be able to be traded in, and maybe some others, but no straight out buying them with real world money.

Not at all, sorry if my wording is confusing. The original sentence read: "I'm not against inserting additional vet rewards into the equation after selections have already been made by players, but must say, doing so with no means for players to attain them other than waiting it out, doesn't sit so well with me." For clarification; I think it's OK to put rewards into earlier years, provided all players have a means to adjust. A player who chooses to hold onto choices and not expend them has no issue so far as I know (at least this go-round), but this does not apply to everyone. One of the lessons yet to be cemented into our dev folks is that for players to be happy, or in this case be fully gratefull, is that any and all changes/ additions made must be implemented with a strong eye toward empowerment. Adding numerous rewards, when many have already selected rewards beyond the years they're retroactively made available in, is an irritant to many - self included. The easy solution is to modify the system, put in a NPC to allow for turn in of previously taken items, and "return" the selection to the player. If someone finds that troublesome, I'm not sure why.

So how much would they charge - the equivalent subscription price that the vets paid? So the 10 year rewards would be the $1200 that it cost us to get an account to 10 years.

Wouldn't paying for 4 accounts with RL money to have 4 characters on one shard, where as the 'poor' players who only have enough money for one account are stuck with one character be considered an advance?

    oh i hear ya.
im not saying a 1 year old account should be able to get a ethy cu.
hell, i have 2 accounts that are rolling over 11 years at the end of sept.

im just saying we should be able to pay a monitary value to EA and they would hit our accounts with 2 or 3 more vet rewards on our gump.
if your account isnt old enough to get them, you wont get them.

i like the turn in idea.
    the 'vet reward exchange'

  32. DHMagicMan_1

But then EA would have to make tokens that say "Buy a First Year Vet Reward" $.99 or whatever... Buy a 5th year Vet Reward $35... Buy a 10th year Vet reward $99 or however they price them... the points aren't all equal... The same problem if they allow "Rechoosing" they'd have to come up with a way to say if you turn in a year x then you can choose anything currently on the year x list, you don't get a blanket choice for anything you are currently eligeble for back... seems like a big can of worms to me.

  33. Harb

    Harb Guest

Oh no no. Just sell a vet reward token. You redeem it, and can choose any level reward you're entitled to. Keep it simple. But as earlier, not really a good idea if you can't swap out what you have originally been rewarded. Otherwise, this would be a bit mercenary.

  34. DHMagicMan_1

    DHMagicMan_1 Guest

I can just see tons of people turning in tons of black dye tubs, furny, specials etc... and claiming all the new 7, 10 year etc...

That would be a big economy hit.

I wouldn't care if someone turning in first year rewards and got the commodity deed boxes... all first year stuff.

Basically I think it should just stay as it is I guess... if you picked, you did... and wait for your next pick... no extra purchases at uocodes... no redeeming old purchases or buying cheap ones from vendors (now) and turning them in to get tons of expensive ones to sell later.

I wouldn't object if they give every active account as of 10/1/08 or some other arbitrary date (anniversary date) 1 or 2 or 3 bonus choices in addition to any you are currently entitled to (provided your account is at least 12 months old at the time of that date) but other than that I'd say the Vet rewards system as stood the test of time and why mess with it now?

  35. Harb

    Harb Guest

I disagree with your conclusion regarding the economy. You're right about process, in my case, I'd be trading in old cloaks/ robes for ones more appropriate to account age, ethereal horses for cu's, a decorative anhk for one that works, and a couple statues for a couple new ones. In these actions, there would be no impact on play balance. Personally, I wouldn't be selling anything, but some will. So everyone who sells vet rewards might run to their vendors, pull off year 1 rewards, and change them out for new, higher year rewards. These might go back on vendors at higher prices, right? Don't buy them. The same system would apply universally, so you could buy the cheapest player vendor reward you can find, and turn it in yourself for an age appropriate reward you would prefer. As earlier, there is no one who loses in such a scenario. But let's go back and review what that resold reward was meant to be.

Philosophically, I see no issue with a turn in process. A reward, a gift, is a covenant between a "giver" and a "receiver." Beyond that, everyone else is an "observer." If the recipient turns around and gives (or sells) something to one the observers, it really has nothing to do with the graciousness of the original "giver," nor does it cast unfavorable light on the original "receiver." Dev needs to be gracious in what they provide, to merit gratitude from those in receipt. A friend tells me he wants a certain book for his birthday. I'm really excited about a different book, and am convinced my friend would like that book better, so I buy that one and give it to him. He doesn't get what he asked for, does or doesn't read the book I gave him, and auctions it on the web. He buys the book he wanted. No harm anywhere; and "pure" intent by all.

  36. I would have to disagree with selling veteran rewards on UOGC.

Using up all of your rewards is a personal problem and shouldn't have to be reimbursed by EA through other methods i.e. selling or freebies.

I would rather see the ability to get more than 1 pick for veterans 2yrs and older.

We don't need EA for this. Most of the Vet Rewards will be for sale in Luna within 24 hours of the publish.

It happens every time there are new rewards. A good example are the 9-year Polar Bears from last year. I used one of my vet rewards to get one, but I currently own 6 of them.

  38. Harb

    Harb Guest

Surely true, but not everyone can do so, thus the issue for many. And expenditures circulate among players, whereas our dev guys missed another opportunity to make EA happy with added revenue. I am firm in belief there should be a "trade up" mechanism, I'm not as firm regarding direct sell, though I do favor it. My real concern isn't for EA per se, it's for us, the more EA cherishes our monetary input, the more they cherish the efforts of our team and the more they'll allocate for continued and future development. I'm actually becoming more and more concerned in this regard, I'm sure our team gets their budget, but am reasonably sure at this point that general funds available to Mythic will be directed elsewhere.

I have to completely disagree here. Vet rewards are just that, rewards to vets for whatever years they have played. To be able to buy them because someone already used theirs is wrong.

I have been saving most of mine on my 11 year account for about 5 years now simply because there really wasn’t anything I wanted and I kept hoping they would come out with something new. 3 years ago I got hacked and naturally the hacker took ALL my rewards. I had to start all over with my vet rewards. No problem I kept saving them again. Although I don’t have as many as I would like I am still happy that I have some to use on the new picks.

I have another account that is 6 months away from being 10 years old. I will patiently wait until that account is hold enough to pick what I want from the 10 year picks even though I could use it now to get some lesser month picks.

You know, for a lot of the things, all you have to do is be lucky once.

I've never had more than 20 million gold, and both times I was in that neighborhood, I bought 120 PS scrolls (Magery the first time, Eval the second).

However, my first two doom arties were Spirit of the Totem and an Ornament of the magician (a year apart from each other, and didn't get another doom arty for 2 years) - I kept them and USED them. Does that make me rich? No, just lucky, and able to resist the urge for a quick buck.

I've got a fairly large collection of vet rewards - 20+ reward statues (counting duplicates), 8 ethys, 3 red soulstones, 8 dye tubs, and 5 deedable items (banners, displays, etc.)

Of those, I've spent eight vet reward choices, on 3 accounts (well, 10, if you count the two tubs I lost due to the old chest issues where some of the fishing and T-map chests would spontaneously decay, years ago). I've bought 2 more tubs, and 2 ethys. That's 12-14 rewards out of 45-50 I own.

The rest? Well, I got lucky.

I was doing a run to get my first BODs of the day on my primary tailor/secondsary smith, who rides a giant beetle, at 10 AM eastern one morning - a time where I would usually be at work or in bed (depending on what day it was, back when I had that job).

A friend told me, just in passing, that they were heading to Tokuno; a house was about to fall. I'd not got anything worth much in previous IDOCs, such as the great house collapse, years ago, so I mainly went there to chat with them while he and a couple others grabbed stuff.

When the house fell, I just grabbed a few high-item-count, low weight, containers that had sat ignored for over 30 seconds AFTER the house fall. I managed to fill myself and my beetle, with no competition - and without even looking at the contents.

Out of room, I started dropping decorative plants and bonsai on the ground from one of the containers (there were some other things, including the container, I wanted to keep), and was able to grab a couple more containers.

After dropping about 90 plants, I ended up with
5 ethys (2 I wouldn't even be able to use for another 8 months)
all of the afore-mentioned vet reward statues (several of them 4th & 5th year)
3 or 4 deeded rewards (Swords, shields, etc.)
over 100k regs in deed form (enough to get my alchemist & scribe to GM)
and a number of other things (pieces from the evil item collection, etc.)

I've not done an IDOC since, and that was about 15-16 months ago.

One doesn't have to be rich, or even a veteran, to have a lot of vet rewards. One just has to be lucky, and know which ones to buy/trade/look for in collapsed houses, as opposed to actually using a reward choice.

Most of the established stuff, 5 year or less, a person should never actually use a reward for (with the exception of soulstones, if you really need one). A frugal player should be able to save up and buy any of the tradable 1st-5th rewards in a few months, and even a low-population shard like Lake Austin almost always has most of them for sale either on vendors, or via word of mouth. Even better is actually trading stuff with the word-of-mouth types for rewards - sometimes you have what they need, and a vet reward can be a lot cheaper acquired through a barter.

It's typically new additions, and the 6th & higher stuff, one has to get on your own (and even the existing stuff can be found occasionally). Hopefully, by the time a person has 12 & 24 "official" months (10-22 months of game play), they'll have learned this, and start saving choices for greater things.

Then, there's IDOCs - and no matter what you might hear, ones outside Fel & Luna can and often are worth going to, especially for those with less means, and no desire to "plot-grab". As my own experience shows - you only have to be lucky at one of them, ONCE.

Agreed. IAW the essence of this statement, an 11 year player should be able to have any of them through 11 year rewards. No "you have to wait," "you chose already so tough," "it's not fair to all," or anything else is pretinant to this statement. Emotional and self focused outcries are not rational discussion, argument or counter-point.

Go to any aftermarket site, you can already buy them. As many as you want. You pay more for higher year rewards based on supply/ demand. Some may be legitimate, some may be duped. No different than buying from player vendors. The question is whether or not EA should sell them. Further questions are should they be sold for the same amount, and should there be any restrictions? But what is "wrong" about buying them? Is it also "wrong" to buy from another player? Is it "wrong" to gather them from an IDOC? And what does it have to do with "already using" one?

I'm not picking at you or trying to pick a "fight" with anybody, I just really can't understand the logic to the contrary. I enjoy your posts and thoughts, I'm just having trouble following on this theme sorry!!

Look at it this way, if UOCodes starts selling them then "Legitimate (name your reward)" will be created far in excess of the number that would normally based on the number of Veteran Rewards Points available to players.

If you look at an Ore Cart, it takes 10 years at roughly $120 per year (not to mention 10 years of waiting... to earn 17 Vet Points (I think) or roughly $70 per Vet Reward point plus the waiting time...

If someone decides to offer 3 Vet Rewards codes for $49.99 or "Insert Price Here" it drastically changes the value of points.
