    What Slayers work on them?

    What is their weakest resist?

What dexers are people using that supposedly work well against these?

Why are rune beetles so ineffective on these(any nerfs I don't know about?)?

  2. Ash

    Ash Guest

    Weakest Resist is cold.

Only time my dexer did good is when a mage was healing me.. :gee:

Rune beetles, probably because of resist being high.. Being weak to cold a cu might do well.

    Don't know of any slayer..

With a dexer or archer use a power, vanq, or mystic weapon. These will most assuredlly get you the best results you are looking for.

power or vanq? You mean like the old legacy weapons? and whats a mystic weapon?

I'm rocking weapons that were considered the best on pacific when malas came out, so they are maybe outdated?

They are like the old legacy weps, they were reintroduced roughly two years back. mystic being the top end of these. Personally I use a crossbow of power, and can kill a vanguard in less than one minute.

where are they obtained and how much do they cost. I guess i'll need a set.

Its going to be hard finding any because they are a turn in from the first round of turnins and most if not all people turned them in already. I know I wasn't able to find any.

Cant be obtained except through another player now. Prices will vary greatly so I honestly have no idea. Considering 90% of all power, vanq, and mystics were turned in during phase one you could expect to pay a pretty penny to anyone willing to give one up. Sorry that doesnt help much, but they are very hard to find on even the most populous of shards atm.

*pokes* these are noobish questions for a vet btw! j/k

They can be found in all types except for ML weps. (not 100% sure on this one) They dont have much for mods per say...except they do *unseen* dmg to *special* event creatures. Power = 30 dmg inc Vanq = 35 dmg inc and Mystic = 40 dmg inc.

ah. I've never heard of these items at all. I understand power and vanq weps dmg inc. Unseen damage to event creatures? sounds pretty silly. how does one distinguish these weapons from others then?

I play on and off. new additions in uo make the game outrageously unbalanced and often discourage playing.

I rarely if ever participate in events(since the closure of the em program anyway). And I can proudly claim to never have engaged in a turn in before.

why do the mobs that spawn around vanguards have like a black smoke effect after they die?

  15. Mythic

    Mythic Guest

Now, I havnet fought any of these vanguards yet, but Ill assume they are about as hard to kill as them demon beserkers from the mag invasion. You could grab a slayer cast cw and EoO and still do less then 10 dmg, but grab one of these new power vanq or mystic weapons and it cuts right through their resists like a normal weapon would. But Im usually wrong so dont take my word for it, I do however have a power comp bow, suppose I better go see if it does the trick aye.

If got a vanq mace on LS If anyones interested!

um its simple, they say power vanq or mystic right in the title. as a longterm vet you really SHOULD be aware of these things. i cant help wonder how you never came acrossed one of these in all those years of idoc adventures!

yes, i did say *unseen* damage. another thing a long term vet would know; these weps have been around being used in events for over two years now. guess my question for you is where have you been to miss the games ongoing content, FoF here on stratics, and numerous posts by EA staff explaining these things?

Well i did say I play on and off. Most IDOCs don't contain new junk. I have a hard time believing these items are 2 years old but if they are, I've never once seen one. I just came back from a year hiatus which may explain alot.

You seem to be offended by my lack of knowledge about weird new items. You probably must have missed one of my many rants about the fact that there is little to no consolidated information on UO anymore. Almost everything is entirely out of date. the forums search only help if you know what you're searching for and anything that has been introduced to UO since Samurai empire is new content in my book.

Thats just it, im not offended by your lack of knowledge, I am offended by the constant story telling and finger pointing you do. Perhaps you prefer I let the mods know who you are? You know...the identity you used up till a week or so ago until it got banned?

Let me refresh your memory, you were fighting about the legality of gold sales for cash. As reason you mentioned some legal crap you pulled from a text book. *hint hint* :stir:

These weps have been around for a long time. Do you remem the ophid invasion? These were around then. Yep, thats over two years ago now too.

Most IDOCs dont contain new junk? So by your logic they are more likely to contain high end hammers? ...and when I milk the cow it hands me cookies and tells me to *enjoy* too.

Actually, Power/Vanq/Mystic Weps have been around for at least 3 years. They were first seen as loot on the corpses of Cyclopean Warrior Generals, Titan Generals and Ogre Lord Generals in the Spring of 2005 during the Despise Invasion of Britain. The Generals were green in color and were hard to kill for most because they had 80 in every Resist. They also did "Buffs" on any of the lesser spawn around, which stacked up.
I was able to rack up quite a bit of Power/Vanq/Mystics back then because i owned the customized Log Cabin that was RIGHT at Brit Cemetary in Tram, Napa and i owned the Villa at the exact same spot in Fel. I would sit in my house on the second floor which had the "secret" stone doors and kill Ogre Lord Generals with AIs on my Archer who had a Ogre Slayer Composite Bow with 50% Mana Leech. The 100% Cold Mystic Cleaver that i sold to a friend would be great for killing the Vanguards, hindsight is such a *****.

The first time I remember seeing them was the orc invasion which was much more than 2 years ago. They returned in both ophidian invasions and than in the Magincia debacle. They were very wide spread and lowly valued between events, but quickly went up again at each subsequent event they were useful in. I don't remember off hand how long ago the orc invasion was but it was right before a friend of mine quit and that was hmmm.... 4 years ago.. maybe 5... not to sure since a lot of the time frames run together after 9 years of UO.

As for the unseen damage. It was explained and reaffirmed after the initial introduction of it's existence by the devs during many of these events. If you take a normal weapon and a mystic one and watch how fast the monsters health bar falls, you will notice a huge difference between the normal weapon and the "special" one on certain monsters but there will be no great difference in the shown damage your inflicting. I can kill Demon Beserkers lickety split with a mystic bow compared with my normal PvM ones.

You have not the slightest idea who I am. I returned to UO less than a week ago after about a year of inactivity. If you want to look up what name I use, check shadowbane's forums. thousands of posts and a years old established reputation as the definitive source of information for new players in a particular class of that game.

I vaguely remember the ophidian invasion as something going on but being almost entirely trammel based. Frankly, it didn't interest me. I never checked it out or cared, nor did I ever hear about special new slayer weapons for event creatures.

IDOCs are usually owned by players who have been inactive for long periods of time and have finally allowed their subscriptions to lapse. Often idocs will not even be customized houses, though the number of older idocs has shrunk over time for obvious reasons. They are time capsules into the time the player that owned them played. And yes, BoDs and runics are common idoc loot. As are artifacts, true rares, bulk resources, bulk regs and more.

And I've never argued about the legality of gold sales. Thanks for attempting to make more unfounded claims. I've said I've never been told I couldn't and I've done it sporadically throughout the years. If I were to discuss the legality of it, it's a service provided rather than a good to exchange hands but this is neither here nor there.

You seem to have some absurd obsession with me on the basis that you believe I am someone else. That is unfortunate because you could be helpful to a returning vet rather than rude.

Ah I was on another hiatus during the generals thing. I only heard about that from the statues in the cities.

It sounds like due to the irregularity of my playing (mostly during summers), I've simply never come across these things.

They probably get their names from legacy weapons (vanquishing, power etc) in the oldest days of UO, power has 30% damage increase, vanquishing has 35% damage increase and mystic has 40% damage increase. They could have all other mods like regular weapons (except no slayer mod). These three types of weapons do double damage to the "event" monsters or creatures.

You get these mystic, vanquishing and power weapons from killing "event" monsters in the past two years. Basically I hardly participate any event, so I got mine from the ground. They were so common at one time, people just tossed them up on the ground, especially in Luna Bank. I didn't turn them in at phase one. I know they will become valuable as I participate the recent events and didn't get any of them.

You don't actually see the extra damage numbers. You have to watch the health bar to see the difference. It is UNSEEN damage. Don't ask me WHY they did it this way, since I am not a dev, but people started noticing it during the orc invasion and asking and the devs confirmed it and did so again during the ophidian and Magincia events.

I haven't seen a dev chime in on it during this event *hint hint*, but I have noticed that I kill Demon Beserkers hella faster with my mystic bow than with my normal PvM ones and Demon Beserkers were in other events and were specifically identified as being affected by the unseen damage of these weapons.

Any Devs want to chime in on the Power, Vanq, Mystic weapons and unseen damage here? *nudge nudge*

i would like to think that the black smoke is a hidden bonus for those that fought the invasion so a special title etc but i doubt it.
what works best? toughie, used mystics etc but keep going back to a big old heavy bow i have that works best.

Just event monsters from what they said in the past and no idea on which during this event since they haven't chimed in, but I do notice the Beserkers going down a lot faster and in the past event that had Beserkers they specifically said they affected them.

I for one, believe this info is wrong. I've now tested this with several mystic weapons from bows to swords and I see no difference in damage I do OR how fast I kill them. I actually kill them quicker with weapons with good SSI and ML and having chiv.

As for Berserkers, yes they went down alot easier and quicker using power - mystic weapons. But it was stated by a dev team member that these weapons would break their defense. I've seen no such statement like that about the Vanguards.

In the past events, it was only certain monsters that seemed to take the unseen damage. The only one I have tried it on and noticed a difference in killing speed was the Demon Beserkers. In the past events, the devs chimed in and told us they did unseen damage and which monsters they seemed to affect. I didn't notice any bonuses to killing the angels, green blobs, or shadow wisps... It only seems to do extra damage to the higher level monsters.

I haven't tried it on the vanguards since my archer is in doom now and I have been killing them with my tamer, but I have seen people using anything from vanq weapons, the vorpal blades, to soul seekers on the vanguard and they seem to be doing well with each. If I bring my archer out of Doom during this event, I will try my mystic bow on the vanguard and post my results.

Alrite, I heard someone mention honor. How does honor work these days? The virtues were very limited last I checked and wasn't aware honor was useful. Anyone have the time to explain honor at length. effects, how you use it. When you can use it, and limitations?

If you have Bushido and you can honor a monster BEFORE it has any damage to it (even if from blessing itself), than you do more damage to it and each time you hit without a miss you gain a perfection level. As you gain in perfection, you hit harder and at max have an increased chance to get off a critical strike which does a lot more damage. Here is the Stratics explanation pasted in in case you want more info:

Any time a Samurai with 50 or more Bushido skill fights an Honored foe, and lands a hit, he gains in Perfection. Perfection gives a damage increase that raises with each step he gains. The number of steps you can gain in perfection is approximately 10, where you will receive the message "You have achieved perfection". At 100 Bushido, each step of Perfection grants a 10% damage increase to your normal attack, thus if you achieve Perfection, you are in fact receiving a 100% damage increase to your attacks (300% damage increase cap applies). Also at 100 Bushido, Perfection grants 100 Luck per level achieved. For a Samurai of 50 skill, each step is a 5% damage bonus and a 50 luck bonus to the target he honored, with a Samurai in training receiving a 1% damage increase and 10 Luck increase to each level of Perfection per 10 full skill points gained, up to 100 Bushido. A missed hit results in a loss of 3 levels of Perfection. At the defeat of your opponent, you also gain back some health, stamina, and mana based on the final level of Perfection you have achieved.

There is also the virtue of Honor you can gain in which is different than honoring an opponent as a Bushido fighter which allows you to:

    Virtuous Ability: Embrace Honor

The reward for following the path of Honor is the ability to move peacefully among aggressive monsters, as well as a damage bonus to melee combat.

You can activate Embrace Honor by double-clicking the Honor icon on the Virtue gump, and then targeting yourself. Activating this ability will cause all monsters to ignore you for a limited amount of time. The duration you embrace your Honor increases as you achieve higher levels on the path of Honor.

If you are in combat when you embrace your Honor, any opponents already aggressive towards you will not be affected.

To work honor in this way you will:

    Gaining Honor:

You can gain Honor by engaging in honorable combat with monsters or NPCs. You can do this by double-clicking the Honor icon on the Virtue gump and targeting an appropriate opponent. You will face your opponent, bow to them, and speak the words, “I honor you.”

You then must defeat your opponent in an honorable fashion.

    Honorable combat is defined as:

    * Allowing your opponent to damage you first.
    * Engaging in one-on-one combat.
    * Not using ranged weapons, unless you stay in the same spot where you honored your opponent, or you only damage your opponent while adjacent to them.
    * Not allowing your pets or summoned creatures to help you during the battle.
    * Avoiding the use of poison.

To engage an opponent in honorable combat, your opponent:

    * Must be one that you can perform negative actions upon.
    * Must be at full health.
    * Must not already be honored by a nearby player.
    * Must be close to you, in your line-of-sight, and have a clear path to you.

The amount of Honor you gain from defeating your opponent is determined by how closely you followed the above guidelines for honorable combat, as well as your opponent’s level of fame.

They came from the Magincia debacle. You could get them off of the big black demons when you killed them. I don't remember if those were called the Void Demons or if that was the White Demons. The white had staffs of pyros on them. Someone who remembers the demon's names help me out. I only ended up with like 8 staffs and 2 blades, I was a rubble junky myself and tried to pick up all I could after the demon would explode and blow up the surrounding areas. I wanted to do a whole house in Magincia and have almost finished it ;)

    Staff of Pyros:
    Artifact Rarity 12
    Undead Slayer
    Mage Weapon -0 Skill
    Spell Channeling
    Faster Casting 1
    Damage Increase 30%
    Fire Damage 100%
    Weapon Damage 13-16
    Weapon Speed 2.75s

    Vorpal Blade
    Artifact Rarity 12
    Repond Slayer
    Dexterity Bonus 5
    Hit Chance Increase 15%
    Damage Increase 40%
Physical and Energy damage 50% each
    Weapon Damage 10-12
    Weapon Speed 2s

The how to is in that post I already did about honor, read it again and you should see it. You can also set up a macro to do it using your options button and scrolling through to virtues.
