Come to the bull pens on Jhelom Tram and watch this tamer. Open the health bars of the bulls and watch. They'll be "a bull" and grey, but the instant they turn blue, their name also changes to Spot, and then he Flame Strikes them. I look forward to the posts that explain how UOA renames pets...come see. I'm simply standing in the middle of the pen, watching in amazement. I paged a GM, but it won't do any good.

Sorry, Lake Austin shard. He also has Fast Walk on, so as not to get hung up..

Not only is he capable of changing it's name the instant it's tamed, he uses the context menu and gets it to follow him, in the same millisecond..truly astonishing.

That was funny, he ran back and forth outside the fence for a minute or two and then apparently stalled out..

Well shoot, I wanted more witnesses than we had. His character has simply stalled at the fence line, and hasn't logged out. Oh well....

Canned response as usual, which I expected.

Well, one can hope I guess :( Kind of sad when a real response would have been surprising.

I like to keep a rune marked for just above Yew gate, outside of the guard zone. Very handy sometimes, and not just for scripters.

Last week one guildy asked another if he could mark a rune to his new house in Fel.

Guildy marked a rune, and gave it to the house owner (another guildmate).

House owner recalled off it and into the Daemon Temple.

I was told hilarity ensued. Wish I'd been on :(

Now, please let me understand here WHAT IS GOING ON with scripting.......

Is it illegal or NOT ?????

Because, if it is illegal than the Game Master should have done something about it (assuming of course, that it was indeed a case of scripting.....).

    But canned response ?

    This I cannot understand it.

Can please ANY Mythic representative clarify this CLEARLY ?

Is scripting legal or not in the game ?

And if it is illegal, are all Game Masters instructed to intervene when they are paged by players or notice it themselves and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT ??

    Thank you very much.

P.S. Can one still file complaints about Game Masters' assistance to their supervisors ?

    It's illegal.

Some GMs don't seem to take their job seriously or know what's going on, I've never encountered any, but I rarely need to page. Though if you page for harassment or exploitation/scripting, none usually shows up.

You can file a complaint on UO.com somewhere, never actually found it as the link the GMs give you seems to crash my browser so I stopped trying to submit feedback.

When you say 'canned response' do you mean the standard 'thank you, we'll watch it, we can't tell you what action is taken'?
Which I take to be like a 'standard letter' A response that's needed so often they reduce their time needed by automating that part of the procedure. Doesn't mean the submitted name isn't also put on to a 'watch' list does it?
GM Reviews took me a whole minute to find it via the 'contact us' link on uoherald.com

Sadly, I have to say that I don't believe some of the GM's themselves either understand the game mechanics themselves, or what the "rules" actually are.

Having once witnessed a case of serious abuse towards a player on a previous shard I played... reported it with a number of other players - and nothing was done - I have very little faith.

The rules are there for a reason. They should be enforced strictly. Sadly, they're not and that's why the game is the way it is today. Inaction when it comes to clearly presented and reported breaches of the ToS, leaves the genuine player base feeling disgruntled.

The other side of the coin, is when a "genuine" player is so disgruntled, they take action themselves to prevent or disrupt a cheating player, they themselves are treated as the "bad" person and spoken to by a GM, because they've lured a monster or whatever... because of the lack of response from a GM!

Yeah, I saw a player getting harassed by a certain group of players, oh UO! Paged, nothing happened. Wasn't the average age something like 35 for UO players? I swear sometimes I play with 14 year old xbox kids who's mothers have left and they have free reign with the mic...

just tame the bulls and release them on the same server as the pen and they wont respawn. it will mess them up all day if u are that insistent on grieving.

  17. If you want the GMs to do something about it, then dont mess with the guy you think is running the script.

If you do anything that messes up the script to where its not working and the guy is just standing there, then the GM's have no proof hes actually doing it cause by time they show up, hes just standing there.

Just page on him/her and stand there... when a GM does come to look, you'll see the char disappear, unless the person running the scipt is actually sitting there, but 10 to 1 if he was there, he would yell at you for messing with him.

Taming the bulls and releasing them on the same server messes it up for everyone else who might come by to do it the right way and should be considered griefing =/

LoL you have to look at what popps asked before answering. You have to make it very clear. He asked if scripting is illegal. The answer to that is no. Scripting is macroing. Unattended macroing aka scripting is not supported in the rules of conduct. Though rules of conduct and tos are 2 different things. The reason why the ROC is just not inside the TOS.
Using unapproved 3rd party programs is against there policy. Because of support or monopoly I don't know. Though they haven't approve any program for almost a decade becasue they canceed there department.
Using programs that directly do not interfere with the uo data stream is not illegal. Like many of the ones on stratics page. Other programs that act like keyboard, mouse, etc as long as it doesn't interfere with uo data stream are legal but not supported. Many macro programs that interface directly with your keyboard and mouse that comes to mind.

Doing a action while not on your computer if thats just putting a penny on your keyboard or running a macro with uo assist and turning away or going to the bathroom gm look for unattended.
Though the company acknowledge the problem with gamers dying from not taking a break. So when gm talk to you they don't immediately toss you in jail. they understand you need to use the bathroom, have a screen blocking there chat, or your looking away, standing up to get a stretch. So if a macro is running they speak to you a few times and give you a good 5 min between each time before further action is taken.Sometimes they come back a hour later to see ifyou still unattended.

As you can see you need to be very specific with people especially popps asking these questions to not lead everyone astray and present facts.

Scripting a series of pre-programed actions being performed by pressing one key. Macroing a series of pre-programed actions being perform by using 1 key.

    What she said...

Typically GM's can NOT give you any response to your page beyond "Well look into it"...

And I believe that they watch or "record" the offender for a few moments after the page...

Much like harrassment paging where the journal is recorded for 15 min prior to the page and 15 min after the page and reviewed.. (I believe this is the way the policy works to my understanding of it)...

So... it may be that tomorrow when poster logs in and the "case" as been reviewed he'll have a nice email waiting for him telling him why his account has been either banned temperarily or permanently...

And NO they can NEVER tell you what action they did or did not take... it's the way it works....

but Yes standing there watching will sometimes get you a result...

Best way to deal with them if you want to mess them up all day is to take a herder and lead away the bull they are trying to tame... take it nice out and remote ... and then kill it.... leaving the scripter standing there... wandering about looking for a bull that isn't there. This way the bulls still spawn for other people who don't script and the scripter is out his gains... and hopefully after a few such intances .. he wises up and learns to play the game like the rest of us. By playing.

Yes, they are. It's just that the term "scripting" is most often used to refer to someone who is automatically doing something that is illegal. In actuality a "scripter" and a "macroer" are the same thing. Macros are scripts :p

When i see someone say "scripting" then i think of them saying someone is doing something outside the bounds of any of the approved clients and 3rd party approved program i.e. UOA. Am i wrong?

NO, scripting and macroing, or a script and a macro are not the same thing.

A macro consists of multiple functions, movements, etc, tied to a single key stroke. It executes and it ends.

A script is an set of instructions, sometimes many hundreds of lines of coding, which executes functions, movements etc and can include logical operators and variables and exceptions. That's a pretty simple explanation.

A script is much much more than a simple macro. Go to that site and look at some of what the crazy stuff posted there is capable of doing. Then decide if you really think a script is just a macro.

Simple Legal way to make scripter have a bad day taming.........

If you have a tamer who uses jewls to make up your taming skill....

step 1 put on jewls and go tame the hardest MOB that you can with your modified skill.

step 2 go to the pens and take off your jewls as well as any thing else that has taming mods on.

step 3 tell the now uncooperative pet ALL KILL ALL KILL ALL KILL untill it gets pissed at you enough to "leave" you :)

step 4 cast invis and watch as the pet eats the scripter.

this is LEGAL is that you were just there to train your new pet..... Plausible deny-ability is the name of the game

Oh and yes it is a script he is running... he didnt even change the name "spot" from the default down load.....

The program doesn't matter what is used it could be uoassist alternative, strategy commander, the unamed program, uoassit, quickmacros, excel macros,etc.. Some are more limited to how many lines you can use than others.Uoassist is pretty crippled compare to what it can do. Right now uoassist is alot more crippled than the buiilt in EC macro system but much more advance than the 2d macro system. Either way still the same thing macro-scripting in the technical term. All use code to the most basic and complex form. They are only limited to the program used.

You can use a outside macro program to automate your keyboard and mouse to do everything you want for it including activating typing programs, recognision, turn on your lights, recognising action's in uo. The sky is only limited by the programmers ability. Eventually in the future have some robots physicaly playing the game though software would be easier. Actually if you consider those poverty players that used to be hired to play UO for pennys back when UO was actually popular as human macro programs :)

Not wrong as such. Popular saying scripters are using unapproved programs but it's not correct in the technical sense. It just caught on like that.
Though on a seperate note if you use a program to automate uoassist or your hardware with out touching UO directly that would be technicaly without violating the ROC. Or using programs or hardware or websites that give you a advantage in UO without it hacking the uo data stream. In websites like we use stratics for inside information giving us advantage over non stratics user. Though it's perfectly within the realm of the ROC. Because so many people bring it up most of us here have read it at one time or the other. But most of the UO pop does what we do when we see legal babel and just say blah blah yea i agree to sell you my unborn child and let you play with my wife EA just let me play already.

Could you elaborate by showing proof of someone mentioning "scripting" in their post calling out someone else who isn't blatantly using something that allows them to play UO unattended?

    Thats what i'm getting at.

  32. UOKaiser

    UOKaiser Guest

Not 100% sure what you mean. In these forums you can't accuse another no matter how much proof you have. Just get scammed in the trade forum and you know what I would mean. So it's difficult to just point out. The one in this topic most likely is unattended macroing using a advance macro program that allowes you write your own commands. Most likely using the one we know about and it's scripting language but doesn't mean he not using a macro program that loops uoassist or interacts directly with the keyboard mouse of the system but not Uo. Either way the best way to categarize it as unattanded macroing instead of just scripting. Or even unattended scripting.
Instead of just macroing. But as long as people are clear about the difference and the similarity they can call it shooting the range if they like.
Im still wondering where PVE came from. I have my assumptions like WOW but for the past decade and longer it was always called PVM in UO.

I call it scripting if the scriptor went to a certain website and downloaded a SCRIPT that he is using.

And taking a bull away and killing it just means it respawns inside the bullpen whereupon the taming script will kick back in when it sees the new spawn.

The last script tamer I paged on in Jhelom bullpen was riding a hiryu and taming CHICKENS.

I used bagballs to make a PATH redirecting him while I waited on a GM response.

A GM actually SHOWED UP and asked ME what I was doing.

I said I am testing to see if he is attended or not so I don't waste your time.

The GM watched awhile but did nothing.

I picked up the bagballs while he watched and I recalled away.

Came back later scriptor still there but unfortunately so was an angry giant serpent.

The scriptor died of course and I was not too happy the GM did nothing.

BUT a couple days later I read here about some CHICKEN taming exploit being nuked by the devs.

Did I help catch that exploit?

No clue but I'd page again. It's the right thing to do.

  34. UOKaiser

    UOKaiser Guest

Wait chicken taming exploit? I never heard of such a thing. Did I miss it? Im curious cause why would someone need a exploit to tame a chicken?

Like I said you could call it scripting that way, But technicaly it's incorrect term when dealing with the intention. Those things they download can also be considered advanced macros. It's how you look at it. But whatever it is the part of the thing that is important is the unattended part. Not important to me as am too busy and don't care what anybody else does as long as Im not getting grief or nerfed or people pushing the game to be shut down by making ridiculous ideas, demands etc. Mostly on the broad economical and playability of the game. I want Uo to continue and not go the way of many other online games. It would be a sad day.
But really what is this chicken exploit that used to be around?

The Chicken Taming Exploit was something about taming jewels being on a vendor and bouncing back somewhere (vendor?) when you tried to equip them and that temporarily set your taming skill to 0? so you could go tame chickens for huge gains.

I guess your real taming came back at some point and added the new skill points in?

I just read about it here and I forget which post I read it in. Seems it was a patch or a publish someone questioned and someone answered the devs did something to stop the taming chickens exploit.

Oh here I found the thread:

Re: [UO Herald] New Publish - All Live Servers
    Well since its fixed...

I gather someone figured it out by taking a piece of jewelry off of their vendor and placing it directly on their paperdoll. By doing so would make it spring back on your vendor and lower your skill. Lower it enough, you get to the point where you get easy skill gains, log out and back in...skill returns to normal. But you got skills gains based off of your shown skill not real skill.

Tamers goto 120 taming sheep, skillup even if you fail.
Smiths goto 120 making daggers, gain skill even on fails.
Mages goto 120 casting a level 4 spell over and over never expending mana and fizeling the whole time.

This is of coarse lowering your shown skill to well below 0 negative 120.

Getting above skills was the same way but you needed an item to give you negative instead of a positive so -10 to a skill would bump it up +10 same with stats.

I am suprized they didnt fix they way to remove negative stats from faction death yet. Nope, not telling, my lips are sealed."

    http://vboards.stratics.com/showthr...light=taming+jewel+vendor+exploit#post1568416

I did wonder why a guy on a hiryu was taming chickens but he was a pk so I figured he was on a lesser using bushido.

He did tell me he got a few days off no big deal when I laughed at him in chat a week or so later.

He was fussing in chat about someone else' pvp skills and I said come on now! you died to a giant serpent and you're awesome you can tame chickens in your sleep.

So not sure if he got a few days off for the taming script or not. Last I saw him the day he was taming he was dead.

I have wondered if GMs were there watching when the giant serpent found its way into the open gate of the bullpen!!

Ah wasn't this the one that allowed you to get skills higher than 120? I swear once you said chicken exploit the thoughts that ran through my mind was hilarious.
