Watch For Pets Unbonding!!

It could just be with my pet, but I thought I would share this with my fellow tamers in case it could be a glitch with the latest publish???

    Anyways, this happened ...

    1) I have fully trained Dread Mare on my pvp char - bonded for months - and v well fed!
    2) After a huge fight, towards the end of which he started listening a lil less than usual ... I noticed he was tame, and NOT bonded.

I realise that failure to feed and care for a bonded pet over a period of time will cause it to go from bonded status to tame status, but in 45 minutes?

So be careful and always dbl check status of your beloved pets!

    Okay, that's just scary.

Have you been hunting with it a lot lately, or has it been stabled mostly? And what were you fighting (was it up against another dread mare or other equine)?

Sure hope this is a fluke... :(

I know that a pet could go from bonded to wild but I have never seen a pet go from bonded to tame.

I never saw a pet go from bonded to tame before either. That definitely sounds like a bug

I've had it happen to me a few times a year or two ago - at the time, I had a suspicion it was linked to a failure of pathfinding to find a way for the pet to reach me when I was repeatedly calling, but I couldn't manage to reproduce it.

Oh no...I really hope this gets fixed ASAP if it's a bug!

I'm going to be nervous out hunting with my pets now. :(

Maplestone, your idea about the pathfinding makes me wonder if this happened in strange terrain, like the way T2A's terrain reacts to spell targeting and things of that nature.

My problem is the reverse. I have two dragons in the stable for 12 days now that wont bond! These will be to fat to get out the door when they finally do bond as I feed them twice a day checking. :coco:

  9. thats bad..... yup bad..... minus the pets used in pvp =P *Jabs quickly at PVP tamers*

I was taming Kits last night and twice the Kit morphed into an NPC just as I tamed it. They followed me, obeyed commands and ate ribs. I've tamed thousands of Kits but last night was the first time this happened.

Well, I have been pvping with it daily ... with meat in my pack to feed it constantly. I always make sure it is "wonderfully happy" ... and it has never slipped below "extremely happy" ... and it rarely dropped to that level.

Just be careful fellow tamers! :)

What taming, lore and vet skills do you have (real and adjusted if you wear jewellery etc)?

Did he re-bond when you fed him, or has the bonding timer reset?

Can you send all the info to the bugs email addy in case this is a proper bug. With all the glitches coming in this week, it's hard to know if this is part of a change we shouldn't have yet or a "proper" bug that just needs fixing lol.

Appreciate the heads up too.. think I'll park my dread mare in the stables for safety.

Did you see the 2 pups spawn? I've found a couple of times someone has tamed the pups then just released them. If you retame one after that, it'll go wild as soon as you command it if you haven't fed it first.

If it was a fresh pup, it should have been ok.

If you did have that problem on the fresh pup, is your real skill 120 too? What about lore/vet? Just trying to figure out if there's a pattern or any "reason" to this.

Mayhaps it only has to do with these ~newly available tamed animals?
    Dread Mare?
I have never heard of a bonded pet reverting to a tamed one.
(Then again, I have not taken the opportunity to tame a Dread Mare nor a Greater Dragon... yet)

Or mayhaps it truly is something deeper.

Jeremy of the Mythic please inquire:
As to how it might be possible to lose a bonded pet while still retaining its tamed status!
(Note: The OP mentioned that it had been well-fed and battling; battling tells me it had been commanded aka attention ~loyalty bonus~ had been paid to it recently).

i had this happen last year.

i just happened to mouse over my cu while at the stable and noticed it was just 'tamed' and not 'bonded'

no idea how long it was unbonded for, was freaky.

That sounds like you don't have the skill (real, without jewelery) to make them bond.

if a pet listens to you less and less

this leads me to think that you do not have high enough skill to control and use jewellery to boost it up

this happened to me with a mare ages ago
it has not happened since with a skilled tamer

    is this correct?

please excuse me if i am wrong

Something fishy may be going on (bug?). My elder tamer has been commanding Greater Dragons with no problem. But over the last few days (after the patch?), he failed quite a few times commanding his cu and in once case, the cu went from "wonderful happy" to "extremely happy" and then to "rather happy" within 5 min.

Dev should take a look at that - may be some bug fixes make the pet harder to obey.

If you keep feeding them daily, you'll likely have reset the timer for bonding. You need to leave 7 days (I usually leave 8 to be sure) between feeding the pet after you tame it, and then to bond it. If you did that and it still didn't bond, it might be your skills aren't high enough, but you should get a message saying as much when you feed the pet.

Actually, the extra feeding doesnt reset the timer. However, when they first came out, ALOT of GD's had this issue. Both mine and my husband's first ones took 12 days to bond, and I knew at least four other people who had the same issue. It seemed to resolve after the patch that correctly titled them, but maybe the glitch is back?

Hmm, as far as I'm aware it was possible to reset your bonding process by feeding too soon, but having never done that myself, I can't say for certain ;) Just something a lot of tamers seem quite certain about so I never questioned it.

I only know it won't reset because I train and play with my pets before they are bonded, so alot of feeding comes into play.

I've noticed at times that if I'm standing too close to a pet when I feed it, the pet loses some happiness when I give it a command right after feeding it. You might want to try to avoid standing right on top of a pet when you feed it and then command it. I also think it's a good idea to play with the sound on when you are issuing lots of pet commands. There is a distinct difference in the sound a wonderfully happy pet makes in response to a command versus the sound they make when less than wonderfully happy.

You definitely sound like you know what you're doing with your pets, Daulphyne, so I hope not to insult you by asking if your character is in factions and perhaps was in skill loss for part of the time you were PvPing, which would have dropped your taming and lore skills significantly. You didn't mention it, so I really doubt it. But thought it might be worth asking on the very slim chance that is why you had a problem. You definitely would have seen messages about your skill levels having dropped and then seen a message about your spirit being restored and skill levels going up when the skill loss period ended.

If faction skill loss was not a factor (and I doubt it was, since you didn't mention it), did your character die not long before your pet became so unhappy and if yes, where were you when you died and who/what killed you? Did anything kill your pet in that time, and if yes, what was it? Did you see any kind of messages that indicated you had a significant skill or stat change of any sort in that time? Also, do you happen to carry extra jewelry with you that you swap out for various purposes and could you have perhaps put on the wrong jewelry and didn't notice it?
