I see regularly some metal weapons (not wood enhanced) with SSI over 30. Yet over time I've burned many many runics and don't remember having got anything with SSI over 30. Is there something I'm missing here? How do you get metal weapons with over 30 SSI, and what's the max you can get?

    Thanks

event weapons. "generals" dropped metal weapons, and (x)bows with 40ssi

people hoarded them to no end. I have some left as well. hardly useful anymore though due to other ways of reaching max swing speed using either items with SSI or stam increase

ah damn, so I suppose the choice of weapons is limited, right? No Soul Glaives for instance?

those weapons were only a few.
they had a bow, a crossbow, and a heavy crossbow..
they had up to 50 ssi, 50 di and 30 hld.

they also had a kryss, a katana, a scimitar, a viking sword, a war hammer, a club, and a war mace with
up to 50 ssi, 50 di and 30 hit lightning.

you could not enhance them or imbue them.

it was before SA came out, so no throwing or gargoyle weapons.

During that invasion event, the ranking npcs (LT, GEN, etc..) dropped weapons with 30, 35, 40, 45, and 50 SSI (based on their "profession", and scaled with their rank).

The weapons you could obtain were:
    katana
    scimitar
    broadsword
    viking sword
    dagger
    kryss
    bow
    crossbow
    heavy crossbow
    club
    war mace
    war hammer

All of the melee weapons had Hit Lightning (max 30%) and DI (up to 55%). The bows have HLD (max 30%) and the DI. They cannot be enhanced, but can be imbued (only 450 points though).

Additionally, the Mage and Healers would drop Magery spellbooks of two kinds (of the following max properties):
    Reddish Colors (up to): MR 3, SDI 30%, LRC 10%;
Bluish Colors (up to): DCI 10%, SDI 30%, FCR 2, LMC5%

you sure they can be imbued? cause i tried one and it said the material was too brittle to handle the magic or something like that.

I reduced the DI on a crossbow with 50SSI. Added 48HLD and raised to 50 lightning.

I've burned heartwood fletching kits and have gotten mods with 40 ssi, but I have never trained up a smith to do hammers.... I have never gotten one with over 40ssi ever from a straight burn...

You can imbue them if their intensity is under 450. You cannot enhance them

I think val hammers using valorite may get you over 40 ssi, but cannot remember as it has been years since i used one to make a weapon.

You all speak about getting over SSI40, but can you at least get over SSI30 with a runic? I don't think so (Again I'm NOT talking about bows and other wooden weapons that can get +10 from Ash)

I have a Hvy that is 50ssi and it is balanced, the HLD and DI were both lowered so I could fit balanced on it.

Only if there was an item that uses an ML-type recipe to add SSI, and you make it with a runic. But, there isn't such a recipe, currently.

DO NOTE, though, that 3 of the 5 "Artifact Recipe" smith-made weapons (ones that have set properties, whether made by a normal tool or a runic - so don't waste runics on them) have a 35% SSI amount when crafted. These are-
    Overseer's Sundered Blade (swords weapon)
Rune Carving Knife (Fencing weapon, IIRC - never have made one)
    Shard Thrasher (Macing weapon)
