What are the main three things in UO that you consider not fun and that need to be changed?

"Apparently they need to adapt to change, and just have no clue what will keep old players and draw new ones in. Sadly the inability to adapt and change to fit into the current gaming environment carries a darwinian penalty. If they don't get their act together, we could all wind up on free-shards because EA's UO becomes extinct."

Please make only one post stating the three main features of UO gameplay that, in your opinion, makes the game not fun. Neatly numbered as I have done. This thread is intended as a hit list for the Devs to improve the game and they are unlikely to bother reading it if it is full of flames and attitudes.

    My three are:

1.) What I see as the primary one is the obsession with items and adding more of them and features to go on them. Enough already...

2.) Over HPed monsters that take so long to kill your dozing off and showing signs of carpel tunnel syndrome. :stretcher:

3.) Making many crafting ingredients into economy breakers by having them be so hard to get. "Wow! 25 new items I can craft in the new expansion! Bummer I can only make 3 of them without paying somebody a million gold for each ingredient" :(

    a. Any mob that one hit kills, or can kill ya with three back to back to back FC 20 flamestrikes. I usually just leave the group and go home or log and watch tv with these kinds at events.

    B. Like everyone else, too much clicking. Some things are just way overboard on the mouseclicks involved. I don't condone it, but I "can" understand why some people script.

    C. Allowing some of the language that's allowed, in general chat...need I say more?

    1. Monsters with so ugly much HP that i need alone a half day to scratch them. I wonder why Monsters gets stronger and stronger, and Players + their Pets stays weak in this Game. I can remember times when Tamers had not only 1 Pet they could use against Monsters. Now we have only ugly Greater Dragons left.

    2. Grinding Quests. All new Quests are really poor made. To get alone 1 Jukan or Meer Item, you have to sift Sand for Hours and that should be not so. After 8 hours Sand sifting i got already 2 Items ... and i don't want to know how many Hours i need to get all Items.

    3. EM Made Events are right now a NOGO. I can talk just over Atlantic / Europa and how it is there and it is not funny. An EM comes online ... 90% of all Players don't even notice that an Event starts. Then that EM makes some poor conversation .... let some ugly Monsters spawn and in the end Players gets Event Items .... that they sell for 100 Million Gold ... Events should not be made to get a Handful Players ultra rich. We don't need unique Event Items. And we need EM's that tells Peoples when an Event starts. For what we have the General Chat? Yes i know there is the Event Pages here in Stratics but not everyone reads here and the Town Criers tell me 95% all the time about Events that was weeks ago.

    1) Lack of in game communication options. It is great I can see what Guild members are online but the fact there is no in game friend list is a joke.
    2) Auto dispel and one hit Bosses. If they are going to have a bajillion HP then they should not have auto dispel and one hit kill powers. Also you spend 30-45 minutes killing these guys and the looting rights are borked and you either do not get a drop or do not have rights to loot. Lame.
    3) For me, right now I cannot place a boat in the water because I get an error saying I already have a boat placed. Which I do not.

    1. Grinding, grinding, grinding..... That is the path of all quests of late... I don't want to have to spend every waking hour grinding, grinding, grinding... I want time to RP and spend time with friends.

    2. Clicking, clicking, clicking carpal tunnel inducing labor for crafting... WHY? And the cost of using my boats cannons still needs to be looked into.

    3. Insane HP on monsters making me spend more than an 30 min to kill them using every ounce of power I can toss at them to have them turn look at me and drop me in .125 seconds. I am tired of kitchen sink monsters with more HP than sense. Need new AI making monsters more challenging by having them FIGHT better... giving me a run for my money without 1 hit killing me, or having me just shoot shoot shoot till I'm darn near out of arrows but not really making me change up anything... And the idea of Monsters requiring more of a "team" effort I like but HELLO the game has turned into a soloist game.... everyone is so selfish from the gimme, gimme, gimme, promotion of itemization that NO ONE wants to work together because they don't want to NOT get the special drop... so either make special drops go to more than 1 person..... such as sometimes arties do that..... or let them drop a tad more frequently so some folk don't feel always left out..... make more of the drops like doom where the more often you do it the higher your chances of getting something are.... it's overly frustrating to do something again and again and again and never get anything...

Some of us attend the EM event for the RP aspect... Getting the item whether or not it's awesome or uber or rare doesn't matter to some of us.... we like the item for the Memento that it is meant to be. I'm not there to sell it or get rich... I'm there to participate... I enjoy getting the item so I can put it on display for our guild to enjoy and remember fondly our participation in the arc.

While I am aware of those that go only to "get stuff" to sell it for multi-megga Millions I seriously frown on that but it is what drives the "rares" market... however i have to believe that eventually when there are countless 100's of items out there from 100's of EM events the "craze" to have them all will wane.... and they will no longer command multi-megga Millions... I always hope..... however I personally think that just having a clicky at the end is fine to which makes the items Not so rare...

    1. Newer things that are a grind. Not addressing older things that are grinding is one things, adding news ones..
    2. In-game communication. All other BioWare Mythic MMORPGs have this, why can't UO? They added some kind of in-game communication system for the New Magincia lottery. Fact is, there is no major MMORPG out there that doesn't have in-game communication, outside of games made for little kids.
    3. Spammers and scripters. The spammers that spam chat, the scripters that walk around Luna openly and have for years. It's not pleasant to be reminded that scripting is unofficially allowed.

    1. low population base encourages solo play
    2. time spent v. material reward for much content is not balanced
    3. systems in place / economy issues encourages players to utilize RMT through non-mythic/ea websites

Below are my three top complaints/concerns about in-game content. I'm not going to address other concerns I have about things like communication from/to EA nor will I address stuff like PvP or factions. Hopefully someone else who's more in tune with PvP issues will speak up!

    1. The decay of virtues and consumption of compassion when resurrecting characters and pets. It is very discouraging to realize how much time that went into working up virtues on multiple characters has by now been completely wasted through decay. The reason for the change was never well-explained and the "fix" for avoiding it feels like a punishment for having a life outside of UO, rather than an inducement to actually play, since you have to time your log-in for a rather narrow window to make sure it works. The "success" message you see when you log onto a character for the second time in one day is very insulting when the initial message for the day was that you failed because you didn't log in "on time" from the previous day. It is also irritating to see messages about virtue and town loyalty status for characters that have never worked on either one. I don't know about anyone else, but I resent being reminded almost every time I log in to UO anymore that I'm some kind of a failure because my existence hasn't revolved around playing UO. Why am I paying to be insulted like that every time I log in "late" by someone else's arbitary standards? It feels to me as if paying my subscription fees and logging in when I can just isn't good enough anymore. What ever happened to good old-fashioned hospitality? In an era where EA is damn lucky to even have paying customers at all, let alone ones who are crazy enough to be paying for multiple accounts, why can't they set things up so that when I log in I instead see a message that makes me feel appreciated for taking the time to play and that welcomes me back and invites me to stay a while? Now it's more like, "Oh, you're here. You're late for your shift again. Here's your punishment." Who needs that?!

    2. My second issue is with "live events" for the last few years either being (1) one-time only EM-driven events or (2) tedious grinds that are only rewarding for scripters or the one player out of a group that is required to take down a mega-hitpoint monster who manages to acquire the one rare item out of many required to finish a quest of some sort. In the first case, you're just flat out of luck if your ability to play UO doesn't coincide with when the EMs schedule events. Somehow, none of them seem to remember there are actually people in North America who play UO and live in the Mountain, Pacific, Alaska, and Hawaii time zones and who, if they have families, can't play UO much earlier than perhaps 9 pm in their local time zones and probably not at all during the day on weekends. As with the virtue/town loyalty decay, the message players constantly receive through the scheduling of EM events and the grinding nature of other "live events" is that they shouldn't bother with UO if they want to have any kind of a life outside of it and/or live in North America outside the Eastern and Central time zones. Yes, I'm fully aware that the EMs have lives too and can't be running events around the clock. What I'm asking for is that more non-grinding, scripter-unfriendly events be created and run on "auto-pilot." Don't scrap the EM program. Just bring back more events that are actually fun to do solo or in groups, provide reasonably-timed drops that are usable in and of themselves, and run around the clock for several weeks or a couple of months at a time.

    3. My third issue is with how screwed up the game's economy has gotten to be. For whatever reason, and I'm sure there are many that contribute to this, it seems to have gotten to the point that most players have given up on the idea of trying to run vendors to sell anything but overpriced, high-end items. On the majority of shards, it's almost impossible to find stocked vendors that sell basic items like full spellbooks, empty rune books, butchers war cleavers, potions, house add-ons, cheap LRC and resist suits and jewelry, low-end but still useful artifacts/craftables, and 105-115 power scrolls and +5 to +20 stat scrolls. Players who haven't played UO for years and therefore don't have the luxury of owning shard transfer shields to be able to travel back and forth to the major shopping shards pretty much just do without because the items simply aren't available on their shard even if they had the gold to buy them from more established PvPers or PvMers. Eventually some of those poorer or newer players just abandon the shards where they cannot find the items needed to establish themselves on that shard and cough up the cash to either move their characters to some shard like Atlantic or to buy gold and other items there from third parties to get a foothold. The rest just quit and walk away or maybe end up on Siege for a while until they realize it's got its own economic issues. I don't really know what the solutions are for this set of problems, but my gut says the vendor fee needs to be adjusted and there needs to be more incentive for people to put a variety of items up for sale on the smaller shards instead of focusing only on acquiring high-end items and then shipping them off for sale somewhere else or selling them to a broker.

    1. Bigger cheques
    2. Lack of coloured ingots and wood that appear when mining etc
    3. Another vote for (some) monster hit points are just stupid.

Galen, it's nice that those three shards have those events scheduled when they do, but unfortunately there's no consistency with that kind of scheduling. I don't really play on Catskills much and only have one character that's even wearing a suit and can get around with spellcasting. And although I have characters on Atlantic, I don't enjoy playing there at all. And Baja, while it used to be my "main" shard for a few years, isn't a place I enjoy visiting anymore.

9 pm Eastern time translates to 7 pm Mountain Time. For two thirds of the year, if not more, we're lucky to be just barely sitting down to dinner at that time, Galen. The rest of the year, if we ate earlier, we're still cleaning up the kitchen and trying to get in some conversation with each other. And if our grandkids are at our house for dinner, which happens a lot in the summer, they don't go home until it's dark out and maybe I can play at 9 pm or later. If they spend the night, however, I'm lucky if I can squeeze in a few minutes to play around 11:30 pm Mountain Time. And on the weekends....it's run, run, run from Saturday morning until we drop on the couch, exhausted Sunday evening. Maybe I can jump on the computer at 11:30 pm Mountain Time Friday and Saturday nights if they stay over and I can play for a few hours, or log on a tad bit earlier if they don't spend the night. But there's no way I can guarantee with any certainty that I can jump on the computer at 7 pm any night of the week or at any specific time when there's the least bit of daylight on the weekend. We don't have grandkids here every minute of the weekend, but they don't pull out a calendar two weeks ahead of time and say, "Oh, Grandma, we want to come over next weekend and hang out with you and Papa and then maybe spend the night." It's a lot more unscripted than that, Galen. I never know what my weekends will look like. Never. And weeknights during the week, especially when school is out, forget that too. I could have munchkins here any day of the week from 3:30 pm until who-knows-when. And I'm pretty sure we're not an atypical pair of grandparents either. A lot of UO's players are older and have adult children now. But that doesn't automatically mean many of us don't still have children and teenagers in our lives on a daily basis and don't still have evening and weekend schedules that are just as hectic, crazy, and unpredictable as when we were younger and raising our own children the first time around.

So, yeah, I'm not saying get rid of the EM events. I would just love to have some current "live event" content to participate in the rest of the time when I actually can get on and play. And I'd like to be able to do it with my guildmates, most of whom are just as busy with RL stuff during the days and evenings as I am and often don't log on until it's midnight my time here in the west. We have had no real "live event" stuff to do in the last couple of years that wasn't a total grind-fest for quests where you needed 10 of some item in order to get something else or events where you can get items whose sole purpose seems to be to allow you to grief fellow players. Not my style, thank you. Whoever dreamed those things up can..... Eh, forget it. I can't say what I really want to say on that subject without getting in trouble or getting the thread locked.

    *Walks off, fuming.*

I'm with Tina, definitely, on the vendor situation. Lower end items, it just isnt worth it to stock and pay the fees on.
I still say vending fees should be more in the form of a commission paid when item sold, a flat rate...rather than a daily storage fee.
The old argument "well so and so will just put up a lot of vendors and price stuff crazily so no one would by it, thereby effectively increasing his house storage" doesn't count with me. Hnestly, if someone has 1000 items stored on vendors, does that *really* affect your gameplay or mine?? No.

I have pretty much dropped everything off my vendor, except SoTs, SoAs, forged pardons, and the occasional ingredients...

Her description does not fit in with the experience on Atlantic either. EVERY event is posted in advance (stratics, UOEM Atlantic and town criers BUT it is the persons fault they do not know about an event when they can't be bothered to check the resources available to them), more than a handful of players have gotten "rich" from selling event items (and alot of them go right back to being broke shortly after selling them).

I have a hard time understanding why one would argue that the EMs needs to take into account all various RL commitments various players might or might not have when they plan the time for events. Place the event sometime during primetime, and if a player have other commitments in RL, thats just how it is. You can`t attend everything and one makes choices. To argue for anything else I find a bit strange.

Serafi, do you live in North America? Do you understand we have SIX time zones in North America? I didn't say the EMs should schedule things around my life. I'm just asking for them to consider that if East coast players don't want their events to happen until it's 9 o'clock in the evening their time, then perhaps people who live west of Nebraska would also like events scheduled so they happen later in the evening too, not when they're driving home from work, or trying to cook dinner, or trying to spend time with their spouses and children? Contrary to what some people might believe, every job in the western states, Alaska, and Hawii doesn't revolve around when they do stuff in Virginia, or New York, or Philadelphia, or Chicago, or even in Texas. Our schools don't let out appreciably earlier in the day than they do in the east. Our traffic is just as sucky and time-consuming to drive home through as it is to the east of us and dinner doesn't cook by itself nor any faster than anywhere else. And families aren't any more forgiving or understanding than anywhere else about a family member who chooses to ignore them in lieu of playing an online game with strangers.

Eastern Time Zone 9 pm equals 8 pm in the Central Time zone, 7 pm in the Mountain Time zone, 6 pm in the Pacific Time zone, 5 pm in the Alaska time zone, and 3 pm in the Hawaiian time zone. Most offices where I live in the Mountain Time zone are open until 5 pm and retail operations generally stay open until 9 pm. In the Pacific Time zone, I think most offices start to get pretty empty around 4:30 pm and retail operations also stay open until 9 pm. Getting home by car or by mass transit can take you up to an hour or more, depending on where you live. But just because you're home now and it's 6 o'clock doesn't mean "hold the phone," ignore the kids and the dog, don't cook dinner, etc. because it's time to play UO! It's probably one of the most stressful, hectic times of the day for most families and most people probably would end up being divorced and losing custody of their kids if they decided playing UO at that time every week was the big priority. How does that not make any sense to people? Just because it's 8 or 9 pm on the East coast does not mean it's an ideal time every week for someone in Denver, Butte, or San Francisco to play UO or that it's okay to ask them to do it every week at that time.

What it pretty much boils down to the EMs on the North American shards schedule events to cater primarily to collector-players who live in the Eastern and Central time zones and in Europe. I was trying to not say it, but there it is. Dispute it all you want but only if you actually live in North America and regularly play on North American shards, but that's pretty much what it boils down to. It's gotten really old seeing it happen time and time again and is probably one of the main reasons the west coast shards are becoming more and more deserted by the day. EA at this point might as well just close down the west coast shards (Baja, Napa, Pacific, Origin, Lake Austin, Sonoma) and not bother with them if their main goal anymore is to cater to east coast and European collectors. Save themselves some bucks and let everyone jam themselves onto the east coast shards.

    1. Best game for OCD personalities and scripters...too muck click and grind. Could more tasks and goals be completed in a timely manner versus days, months, and never? If we could gather what we need without bashing trees for weeks for wood, or stand in Heartwood hearing the 24/7 scripters while attemping to get a good talisman, we wouldn't have a need for the scripters taking our in game gold and possibly RL currency that the EA store could be profiting from instead.

    2. Less dependence on the fickle RNG...I hate the RNG because it hates me! Some folks just always seem to get the drops. If i do a spawn it's always the cavorting club, or something useless and mundane like a 0.1 taste id sot. Still trying to find a black marlin, and Charybdis bait. The fish finder told me the rare fish was in water so far from shore we'd need a boat to reach it, but I can't place a boat in Ilshenar! Never had a crimson cincture from Mel or anything but the bow and tooth thing from Medusa. Draconi alluded to finding the RNG was broken before he departed. I don't think it's been fixed from my game play experiences. Hoping for a worthy drop is not making UO very fun. I'd rather have the Vela or Treasure of Tokuno system where you pick the reward you really want and could use for points or minor items earned. Let us choose, not the broken RNG.

    3. Cheaters still prosper...Give us the tools and your fixes to compete with the speed hackers that crash my client, script looters, artifact and idoc locators, and dupers. Let us have one item a year in game that we covet without having to pay through our nose. Let me choose my own vet reward, be it a soulstone, Glad collar, 2 story talking statue, or my own talking seagull statue that screeches "Mine, mine, mine". Change the GP currency and make the new currency trackable. Reduce everyone's new platinum shinies by a sliding scale (the more you have, the less new currency you'll get) except those with less than 1 million. Not much fun for a newer player to see items on vendors selling items for millions and reading about billion gp rares. Fix our economy please.

Do EMs all live in Va? It would actually make sense for East coast shards to have EMs in Va, or East cost :p

And put the rest of em on West coast for Baja, etc. We know events aren't scheduled to run on the shards all at the same time...that's why we get so many xsharders on the smaller shards events.

I have to go with Tina on this one, also. And regardless of where and what the event is, EMs need to account for the time involved as well. If it's gonna last 5 hrs, it sure does need to start early LOL

    1. One of my main issues isn't so much EM Events as it is all Events, including Quests. First of all, when they do some kind of work to the game, it should stay in and continue to be a part of the game even if it needs to be changed into other directions and components need to be switched around. For example: The Candle of Love. Why remove the Quest? The Candle is rare with your name. It could have a date on it, the colors could change. Some could be bigger than others, where the candles are not as high.

Take for example: The Halloween Event that dropped very important books and talismen that also made graveyards active and gave people something to do. They are now gone. What about The Threads Of Life? The Cloaks that have swing speed? Why is it so important that people miss out on these things and would it not add to the game if they were planned to be an addition rather than a one time thing? Some things could be made extremely rare but you could still have the chance to receive them. For example: At The Event, 4 or 5 could drop or maybe 20 but then after that, only 1 a year and they would have dates on them and names of who found them, similar to the way the talisman work where they become owned.

So, that each event that is designed along with The Dev Team is not just removed but becomes a new addition and items don't disappear that are necessities for people to have or even more importantly, people are not disappointed that people have not received something special or have lost their chance forever. Shouldn't Events not be for hope for the future and fun rather than disappointment that never goes away.

EM should hold Events on a regular basis. Players should be willing to take up the reigns if The EM is not able to do it. For example: Every day at 8:00 or 9:00, they could do something simple that the game already has to offer, like a fishing trip but with The EMs power a new fish could be caught that is added to the game or they could do a Champ Spawn where a new Champion could be found so that The EMs are always bringing together people. They could do a Lady Mel run and you knowing that it's an EM Event, know their will be a Cincture dropping or they could do the Spider, Night Eyes with a guaranteed drop for somebody. So, hundreds of people will turn out in the hope they will be the one to receive the drop and if they're not they can keep trying.

    2. Looting and Artifacts. Alot of the loot in Shame is still not useable. The most important thing in the game is, loot drops. They could add items that work off of timers. For example: Temporary Stat Scrolls or Power Scrolls that will give your character the ability to add more skill. Imagine a 130 Bard Scroll. For example: Discord or Peace where you could put some jewelry on and get some use out of it but would only work on your character for a few days, where when the power scroll would wear off, your skill would drop to whatever it was before. Cloak of Invisibility that allows you to become invisible and move around except for when attacking but the item only lasts for so long and its' power fades leaving you with a Cloak of Invisibility that may just have a cool color. If you look at your magic book and your shield, you can see how some items need to be able to compare and combine both. For example: A staff that has spell channeling and faster cast 2 or possibly 3. Artifacts that do something not just what their face value is. For example: The Axe of the Heavens could have a chance of killing someone or even all enemy targets making its' possible power much more than its' face value, like the Staff of Pyros that is supposed to shoot a large fire field and perhaps could rain fire from the sky so that its' face value might be as good but its' abilities are much more powerful, especially in PvM. We already have the categories so it would not be hard to add something that would help the person that was using the item not only for face value, such as Bards holding instruments to receive a percentage bonus as well as automatically raising the power of whatever The Bard does.

    3. I think the evolution of the game as far as clicking is to actually create an intelligent character function rather than one that needs to be guided each step. Knowing this macros could be improved as well as game mechanics where your character will have more of a free will or ability simply by suggesting to your character what it should be doing rather than having to guide them through each step of the process. For example: If you break some task down into 4 steps and then allow for that character to do those 4 steps rather than having to do each step. For example: With the fires in the cities, you would give more of a command to your character to put out the fires and the character would continue to put out fires until all the fires were out or a new suggestion was made. For example: Chop wood and then clicking on a tree would allow the character to continually chop at that tree where he would be more intelligent depending, for example, on intelligence and skill or even the ability to teach a specific way of doing something. It would still be the same except rather than clicking, you would do more watching to make sure the character would keep moving from one tree to the next tree or from one fishing spot to the next fishing spot.

    4. I just wanted to add, scalable monster. To be honest, I would rather have another 100,000 hit points added than come up against a creature that continually heals itself and has no weakness to over come that, such as Rikktor and The Mage. You know The Giant Dragon, he some how is able to regenerate his hit points which I could understand if there was an increased number of people but when one person is trying to fight them, it can make it impossible to beat him. It should be based more on the time that damage occurs that he heals. You can find the same thing happening, for example, on The Piper where once his hit points are low enough he will begin to heal but during the whole fight before that, he does not heal once. It would make more sense for this ability to come on sooner depending on the number of attackers rather than to come on at the end only fighting one person and making it take more than 2 hours to complete the spawn. So, essentially we're saying, Make it fun for 30 people, same challenge as for 1 person. Even the dynamics of the spawn could change depending on how quickly its' numbers drop. So, the more spawn it produces, within a time period, the more ability those spawns will have and the higher the chance for rewards.

Pretty much gave up on UO and moved on to other games.

Too much click, click & grind for my taste, just not enough hours in the day, and what time I DO have, don't want to have to grind out a lame quest line (that last part is a personal opinion :) ).

Closed a couple of my accounts, put it all in my castle so when I get bored (which might be a very, very long time) I might play again.

But, meh, so far SO NOT MISSING UO.

Which is sad, because i USED to love this game :(

Galen, I mostly play on Origin and Lake Austin and Sonoma because those are the shards where I actually have houses. Just like the people who live on the East Coast, I'd love for the events to not kick off until 9 pm MOUNTAIN TIME, which is 8 pm Pacific Time. Go look at the schedules for those three shards since the EM program started in early 2009 and see how often the EMs set things up on those shards anywhere close to 8 pm Pacific Time on a consistent basis. I think EM Crysania has been floating between a couple of shards and has in the last month or two been trying to do stuff a little later on the shards she's sheparding, but before that...nothing's at a later time.

I never asked for stuff to happen at 6 or 7 pm Mountain Time. I have no idea how you got that idea.

    1. Unacknowledged imbalances in pvp.
    2. Lack of diversity in pvp.

Oh, and I can't choose the opposite side in events. I'd like to be the bad guy in the actual main events and actually have an effect on something game changing in this game besides flawed mechanics.

    1. EMs shouldnt post on Stratics using ALTs, unless they clearly display that they are paid by EA
    2. More 24/7 content instead of content that only 1% will use
    3. Decent graphics. Now there is hope.

    In absolutely no particular order:

    1. Anything that I have to do over and over and over for little to no reward, or systems you need to "keep up" in order to participate fully. (Not everyone has a lot of time to devote and may want to do more than one thing with their game time.)
    2. EM events in lieu of new content. (I do enjoy the occasional EM event but lack of quality expansions is costing us players)
    3. Lack of dev communication regarding UO, game systems, changes to game systems and general ideas and suggestions. (Obvious reasons)

Problem with that is most of our EMs applied for these positions long after they were a part of stratics. Once you become an EM the ask you to choose a unique EM name. I don't think EMs having alt posting names is a problem. Just because someone holds a certain position doesn't mean they don't have opinions of their own. I've got no problem with leaving that sort of avenue open.

    1. UO does not encourage solo play: I miss the days when i would have a good fight with a lich hoping to get a good piece of weapon/armor. It sucks knowing that you will find nothing you can use before you even swing your sword. I say make all items more random so that just about every monster has a chance to give a useful item or some type of system that puts some of those items worth losing insurance over within reach of the average player. I know there are may naysayers to this idea but most of them are the people expecting you to go grind to buy the items from their vendor.

Which leads me to my second point

    2. Poor economy: I slowly watched this game go from if you are dedicated, you will eventually be able to get that item to you have no chance of ever getting that item. This lead to the haves and have nots. This lead to people getting those items and selling them to you at a ridiculous price. This lead to people finding ways to exploit the game mechanics. This is the reason why new players are so turned off by this game. They look at the prices of stuff and all they can think is how they just spent hours with their sword and shield and only made enough gold to sit in their bank box mocking them. All new players have to look forward to is gold grinding and reaching what will become their endgame - never earning something useful and/or never having the feeling of a job well done.

    3. Lack of entertainment: I think one of the biggest things that kept this game going is how much you can do. Unfortunately, even that becomes stale when you don't keep it fresh. I think they did a good job with imbuing but what about everything else? Do we have to wait for another expansion before fishing and treasure hunting gets better? While i appreciate everything that has happened so far, it just doesn't happen fast enough and when it does happen, its not enough. Sure we can attend events but not everyone can dedicate time to them at the time that they happen. There is also the nagging issue of the client crash that leaves people in the dark. When was the last time the quests were updated? When this system first started, i believed that there would be more things to do but they haven't changed or added new ones.

    ***Honorable Mention***
Cheap AI: Sure, we don't want dumb monsters but we also don't want monsters that cheat you. We still haven't gotten an explanation why harder monsters means harder to hit. Why a fighter with 120 weapon skill and 30 HCI can miss some monsters over and over but can hit others with almost 100% accuracy.

    1. Revamp peerless. There needs to be a point system in place similar to Doom. Also something needs to be done with the keys. Why do we need two different sets and why does the timer have to be so short on the second set?

    2. Artifact design needs improvement. I've only been excited about a handful of artifacts in years. Will we ever see mana leech on a weapon again???

    3. Combat timer. It's highly annoying to wait out the combat timer when I auto defend against a lizardman outside my house. Please remove this for pvm. Thanks!

    2. mob spell effects - 5min durations, revenants, blood oath

    1. ridiculously overcomplicated item system
    2. blessed items, pet bonding, "owned by", and basicly any other system that binds things to a character
    3. mobs "AI" being all A and no I, they just run at the player using abilities completely randomly, and being able to completely bypass any timers (mobs double flamestriking with no delay for instance, and the fact that most don't seem to actually need mana to cast)

lmao. This has always taken a part of player skill out of the game. Be it pvm or pvp. You have no idea wtf the creature is casting. Unlike when you see a player cast you can prepare accordingly for it.

If I may add to the above since I agree whole heartedly. Not only do they seem to not need mana....Line of sight is wonky as well. It seems like there are 3 spell combo's that dont have the normal checks and balances. I'll get hit with an Ex/Fs combo while running for my life and when I heal this poison spell hits me out of nowhere. Being out of normal casting distance AND out of line of sight doesn't stop that. Idky. Speed casting above and beyond....

Revamped monsters with hundreds or thousands of HP. I am sure that they would be pretty fine with half their current hp.
Spell casting monsters with their casting time of 0 seconds. It's not fun being hit by poison, ebolt, explosion and flamestrike within 3 or so seconds.
The fact that right now taming is either using a greater dragon or Cu Sidhe. Everything else seem to be unable to stand against most new monsters. My white wyrm could barely kill those city raiders.
I don't even play her anymore because I dislike having to rely on the GD to stay alive.

I agree on the fishing quests, a 120 need not take eons to obtain.

Beyond that, guys selling hundreds of an item in Luna, ...can you say scripting??
Secondly, deadbeat players.....meaning accounts paid for but never, ever used.....waste of good housing spots....
Lastly, in game pricing on items.......millions is absurd to the casual player, especially for those who don't stoop to buying gold.

Way around this is to charge the 'vendor' fee up front when placing the item ON the vendor (allow 5mins to alter or correct asking price before the item fee is charged) and if the item doesn't end up selling then call it an advertising commission. If you don't sell and need to reprice to a lower fee it would still be cheaper than the daily 'fee' charge and if it wasn't people would maybe consider pricing lower rather than higher to avoid a non sale penalty fix. Also have a scale of fees, items under 20k, 50k, 100k, 500k 1mil, 5mil, 10mil+ from 1% at 20k to 10% at 10 mil plus.

That would stop people using it for storage by stocking stuff at super high prices, and would also ensure the 'fee' was collected, but would eliminate high daily fees on smaller items. I too find the vendor fee charges pretty steep at the moment on all my spellbooks, runebooks, lrc newbie suits etc. I still stock them as I consider it a 'service' but it does get disheartening seeing the fees basically stripping most of the profit. I am sure with a bit of 'working' out the 'scale' of fee could be pretty much made to adequately reflect a 'fair' amount v item worth. My 'figures' are just off the top for explanation purpose.
