What could be done to keep you happy with UO ?

    I have been playing UO since Lord Blackthorn's Revenge expansion. Off and on for maybe the last five years for I have become a little bored. I have to say I missed the Old Chaos , Order Guilds that they use to have. I wasn't really never into factions that much. I use to have my own Order guild and I thought it was cool to take the risk of being attacked in trammel and was even nicer to be able to attack the opposing Chaos guild in Trammel. I would like to see Chaos/Order guilds come back simple and similar to the way they were back in the old days. If at all I would only want some slight tweaking of the system.
    I also would like to see armor crafted out of Dragon scales become useful again. I think armor crafted from Dragon scales should be Medable and possibly the strongest made armor by being capable of having slightly higher resists than other armors made from other materials.
    I also would like to be able to save my house design to a House deed. Then if I go to move somewhere I could just double click the house deed and click on my plot to instantly build my home on the new plot. You could perhaps be like a architect and design, save your design to a house deed and then you could even sell the deeds to other players. Lets make UO better and listen to what most of the player base would like to see. For the player base are the ones who are paying to keep UO around. I been playing UO for about 11 years now and would like to see UO around at least another 10 years.

    Taking the broom through the item system and removing all those properties that make things hopelessly complex or are simply undesirable: Brittle, Can't be repaired, Emphermal, (Current version of) Mage Armor, Mana Phasing, Blood Drinker, Battle Lust, Resonance, and so on. The refinement components having their matching armor type removed and all items made stackable.

    All materials being changed to give more or less the same amount of resists. Agapite should give same as Valorite. Spined leather should be more diverse and useful as right now it only provides physical resist, which plain sucks! While it is the only way to get luck on leather armor! I hate this most of all! Dragon armor still sucks, fix it, give more resists and/or some special property!

    I wouldn't mind seeing the whole item system torn out and rebuilt from scratch in a MUCH SIMPLER form. Guild Wars 1 had the best item system in any MMO in my opinion, 3 modifiers per item, all modifiers being roughly equally powerful, and a very small powercurve (worst intensity gives +10% power, rarest intensity gives +15% power).

    One of the zillion turd items in Ultima Online. You'd say more properties = better, but nooooooo.

    I would like dynamic events, that really really change things in the world based on how they go. And weekly events, just like guildwars where there is always something new to do every weekend.

    I agree with suggestions so far. I would add that all loot needs to be looked at. I can't remember the last time I even looked through the items in a corpse. As far as treasure chests and sos chests, the gold and scrolls are about all I loot. I just discard the remaining 50 items or so without looking at em. If you drop the chests into the recycle bin, they only generate about 150 points. I mean really, how many enchanted kelp leggings or surge shields can you use? I had the most fun when Treasures of Tokuno was running. Collecting lower level items to turn in for better ones was a good design as far as I am concerned.

    Agreed 100%. The random "artifacts" from dungeon crawling that are placed in our backpacks are slightly a joke.
    It also seems absurd that there are only specific places to hunt in the game to get competitive edge gear and the rest of the stuff [from treasure chests or random loot on monsters] is just trash that's left on the corpse. Feels like either poor design or lack of enthusiasm for finishing a new loot system.

    It's always amazed me that anything with those resists could be called artifact, no matter what other mods it has. I've picked up quite a few like this one, only good thing to say about it is it makes relics ;) . I wish they would (instead of stuff like refinement) invest some time into real bug fixes, not fluff stuff, but real bugs...and make em right the first time. My pet peeve, and one I'll harp on till they close the servers, is targeting. I have a macro to select and attack nearest mobile, and a lot of times I'll be standing there getting my ass handed to me by a dozen mobs, and the macro response is "there are no mobiles on the screen".

    Make the artis from hunting in the dungeons (the virtue stuff) AND the artis from killing paragons unravel into relics. This would make em have a little attractiveness for us, atleast.

    Have development levels back to where they were in the past. In other words actual expansions, not high seas style content that takes a million years to get through, but lacks the substance to keep the process fun. Though even that kind of expansion would be better than just nothing. That would certainly help.

    I'd also like it if the game went free to play, as I see no other substantive way to get more people to give the game a try, and the game is always more fun with more people around.

    Simplify, not overcomplicate. Make it possible to answer a very simple, perfectly reasonable newbie question like 'what armour should I look for' without needing to refer them to forums, online calculators, and spreadsheets....

    Streamline and unify systems instead of adding more sub-systems, variant systems, and one off processes. (How many quest systems can one game need, for heaven's sakes?)

    Get rid of 'systems' that are thinly disguised 'hammer your head against the endless RNG grind to maybe eventually get something' exercises.

    Following those - a proper drive to get back old players and try bring in new..... difficult, but that's no excuse for the lack of even trying that seems to be the preferred stance from EA.

    Those would be a good start....

    Continue with dungeon revamps,do destard next with more tameables, some kind of way to recolor pets,more turn in dyes(glacial next please?) More items to turn in (harpsichord scrolls,latest holiday items,etc).hide robes(my kids play AQW, they can hide their helm for Pete's sake,why can't we hide a robe?)

    Hrmm, just a few things...

    PvP -
    Special Toggling while casting Spells.
    Change the way Casting Focus works: Make it restore mana or something like Soul-Charge (It'll still be useful, but would bring timing back to dueling)
    Remove Poisoning's "Poison Immunity": at least make it so Magery above 50.0 removes the Poison Immunity (like How Chivalry casting cap reduced to 2/6 from 4/6)
    Make Stone-form Cancel Protection & vice-versa: Not being Curse-able & not interrupt-able is the worst thing that has ever made it to pvp. (shouldn't be possible to have both)

    PvE-
    Slayer talismans should provide at least 50% more SDI to targets effected by the slayer.

    New Loot system rolled out to the rest of the game,: it just sucks only having the options to hunt in Wrong, Covetous, or Shame... Despise doesn't have anything you can just farm like the other dungeons, and its quite useless farming the old content for loot.

    Update the artifacts from the Void-Pool rewards vendor:
    These items actually take longer to get than the non-ephemeral items, except farming the "Real" artifacts also yields loot from the corpses.
    except they will eventually wear out, unlike the ones you get randomly killing Cora & mobs in level 3-4.

    Remove the "Life-span" on Key items used for peerless' and allow these items to be placed on Vendors.

    Misc-

    Party loot Options -
    Free for all (everyone in party is able to loot the corpse, with no "instanced" loot)
    Group loot (split between party members, as loot is split between players Not in party) It's annoying dropping party for each peerless run, so that the loot is split between participating players.

    Drop-rates: "rare" drops should be possible to drop for multiple players at once, not just One player. (Medusa for instance, out of about 900-1.2k-ish runs, not a single time did more than 1 person get a "rare" drop (Slither, Venom, Statue, Floor Tile) in the same run, But I have seen 3 Slithers drop in a row (different runs). Based on experience, it's NOT possible for two players to receive a "rare" drop from the same kill make it possible at least, Promote group play a little bit...

    The idea behind valorite having the most resists was that it was the rarest of the ores. With the random changes, I can't tell if that's still the case.

    Spined leather intentionally gives only physical and should remain that way. It's easy to get, and it's perfect to add a lot of physical to a piece that doesn't need other resists. It does make it difficult, but not impossible, to construct a suit with maximum luck, 100% LRC and other goodies. Still, use Excel in conjunction with the Knuckleheads' imbuing calculator to plan out the suit. Imbue the other resists high before enhancing with spined.

    Dragonscale is weird but not useless. You can imbue any resist on any piece up to 18, giving it as many total points as platemail. Because each scale type gives a huge boost to one resist and a huge negative to another resist, one piece properly inserted can help balance a suit that's too heavy in a particular resist (or doesn't need it).

    By the way, I love getting items like that gorget. That's a relic fragment waiting to unraveled, allowing me to make something worthwhile.

    This. This three times over. And if you as devs decide to overcomplicate and tell the player base how you loved to have spreadsheets and notebooks to refer to and deal with changes... then send every player a copy of those spreadsheets and notebooks. Most of the playerbase does not subscribe to this logic.

    revamped/rebalanced magic system
    revamped skill system (mostly targeting 120 scrolls- when they first came out one of the big selling points was that you wouldn't NEED and that you could compete with just GM- and that just isn't true)
    redo properties
    Stop making overly complex, near useless systems (recent armor changes)

    How about Another Tier of Quest Lines in New Haven and some added features. Why do they stop at 50 Skill level? Why not Continue it to say 75 or 80. Once you hit the 75-80 Level you get Rewarded with a Full Suit based on the Quests You did. (Multi Step)

    Just some Examples

    Mage Quest (Mage, Eval, Resist = 75 )
    Just give them a sorcerer Suit.
    Full Mage Book
    1/3 Ring and Bracelet

    Dexxer Quest (Weapon, Tactics, Anatomy = 75 )
    A Random Weapon Based on the Class (Just use the Reforge system, give them something Mid Level Vicious/Of Slaughter and Of Haste )
    Scouts Suit
    15hci, 15 dci, 25 Di Ring/bracelet

    Finish out all the Skills at New Haven.

    Add Some Stables like at Jhelom For Taming and taming quest to Boost Gains.

    Mini Champ Spawn Only available to Players who are on the Quests ( Skills < 75 )
    - Rewards Are Scrolls of Alacrity To Help them gain even more.
    - Introduces New Players to Champ Spawns.

    I see rares fest in your profile and all you talk about are EM's.

    Maybe if you stopped being an item/event junkie and just played the game for fun instead of collecting you would get it.

    1. Increase marketing of UO
    2. Fix the loot generation. Provide a chance for items to drop clean with 1 over cap mod, or redistribute the property groupings such that items are used for something other than relic frag creation
    3. Simplify systems whenever possible.
    4. Everything should stack or have a clear reason why it does not.
    5. Limit the pay-to-win aspects. Forged metal tools are required to obtain some of the most powerful items in game. We're already paying a monthly fee. Do something to make these tools or charges available in game instead of only through RMT. The argument that you can buy from other players misses the point that someone had to buy or dupe the tool before they can sell it to you.

    My two concerns with rolling out the new loot system to the rest of the game are: (1) it might then become almost impossible to find jewelry with only one or two useful properties on it, and (2) it would become a lot more time-consuming to build up a good supply of magical residue for training imbuing if you need to do it by unraveling junk loot.

    For example, I save all jewelry I find that only has FC 1 on it, or that only has FC 1 and a skill or another property that I know I would actually imbue on a finished piece of jewelry, just because there's no way to imbue FC 1 on jewelry without using 10 Essence of Achievement. I like being able to cheaply imbue someone who is begging for some cheap LRC in chat a set of FC/FCR jewelry using that scrounged stuff. Makes it a little bit easier for them to get going with training magery or to start hunting on a new character with low skills that has lots of fizzled spells. I'm pretty sure I couldn't be so generous with imbuing such jewelry if I could no longer find pieces of jewelry with just FC 1 on them. I cannot recall ever pulling a piece of jewelry in Shame that just had FC 1 on it or just FC 1 and one or two other usable properties, unless it came from a sea serpent or a kraken. While I absolutely love being able to get a decent supply of relic fragments from Shame loot, I find that very few of the pieces are actually usable as-is.

    What I would settle for is more places that offer the Shame-type loot, but not a complete replacement of what we have in most places with that system. I think it would be important to leave in some monsters that can still be hunted for single-property jewelry and also as a source for an abundant supply of junk loot that can be quickly unraveled for magical residue for folks training imbuing. A bag of Shame loot unravels to far less magical residue than, say, a bag of loot from toxic sliths. So someone who is looking to get lots of magical residue and doesn't have a lumberjack and carpenter or fletcher for unraveling oak items still will need something to hunt to get low-end items to unravel for residue.

    Another reason to keep some spawn that gives junk loot is that such loot is very, very useful to use for actually training up imbuing. I have trained imbuing up to 120 on four characters and past GM on four more and am still working on another dozen or so by having them imbue luck, LRC, hit dispel, or reflect physical damage on junk loot. On a lot of the shards where I'm still building crafters, my blacksmith/tailor/arms lore skills aren't good enough to make anything yet that would have added properties just from the materials used or because it's exceptionally crafted to be useful for training imbuing. So I pretty much have to use looted stuff as the base item to get imbuing gains. Doing it that way is also never boring! Every piece has to be analyzed to see what can be added to get the difficulty in the right range. I'm just not sure how much of the Shame-type loot could be used in this fashion, i.e., as pieces that you imbue further with cheap imbuing ingredients to get imbuing gains. Maybe it's possible. I just don't recall seeing very many pieces from Shame that don't already have too many properties on them to do any further imbuing.

    the one thing i have never understood about UO is the fact that it is a game in need of marketing, yet the brilliant marketing staff decided that selling a game in game stores was a bad idea. how do they expect their game to survive on a 100% word of mouth reputation, we all know this, if you dont already know about the game, there is literally no way to find out it exists. no online advertisements, no discs being sold in stores. no advertisement or marketing effort from EA whatsoever.

    Just an fyi, Exodus dungeon has a mixture of loot (New & Old loot systems are in effect there) on the mobs that drop "keys" for the Exodus encounter, I doubt they will revamp those mobs after adding them in like that. so single modded items still spawn on them like the ones you mentioned.

    I'm sure they kept the old loot system on the mobs, because people were asking for single modded items to drop again, but that wasn't what the people were asking for, they were asking for the new loot system to drop single modded items, with a possible chance of getting over-capped mods to imbue a round, ie 10 SSI rings and such.

    I do the same. When Stygian Abyss debuted, I started offering FC1 jewelry on my vendor, since it's a great imbuing base. People wouldn't buy even for 5K each! So I warehoused them and was later delighted to find that Essence of Diligence is perhaps the easiest to get.

    lol, yeh armor properties have gotten completely ridiculous now. I'm all for a simplified system of some sort. Not only simplified though, but there should be purpose to all different types of armors. Certain mobs should drop certain armor pieces and things like that whicih could be factored in to a suit. There's hardly any reason to hunt mobs for armor right now due to imbuing. At one point crafted armor was almost worthless (bar high end runic stuff if you were lucky) and now we've gone to the other extreme. There must be middle ground somewhere.

    Aside from that, vendor search. I wanna be able to dump random stuff on my Fel vendor at a reasonable price and at least stand a chance of selling it without being required to have a property in Luna. I have quite a bit of routine stuff I could do with selling right now but I just can't be bothered to go through the hassle with the current system.

    It's not the marketing staff - it's the stores. The last expansion we bought from a store was SE. The store had just 3 copies. That's all they would take. They didn't stock ML at all, we had to buy that on line. You can't put stuff in stores if the stores won't stock it.

    It's always rains 24/7 on my castle in the enhanced client I'd really be happy for it to stop, or least place rainbows that spawn and fade at times be nice. oh and no carebears sliding down it. just want the rain stopped or rainbows thats all.

    Really the topic can not be answered because any suggestions or idea`s will never make it into the game anyways. Doesn`t matter how many people like it or call for it..... if something IS brought into the game it is never what players want. It is something that came from a players idea that is than twisted and distorted into something so unfamiliar and vague and than forced upon the playerbase with a huge TA-Daaaa! Enjoy the publish!

    This game is done as far as any good additions or upgrades go anymore. The dev team that is left is to small and to under funded to do jack and the things they do get done aren`t anything the players want anyways. Sooooo counterproductive its just beyond frustrating.

    The only thing that could make me happy with UO is another UO. The same game,same mechanics but using todays engine and todays graphics. Not some half baked UOF stuff that doesn`t resemble UO in the least.
    I want 2015 UO. Not 1997 UO.

    No, IT IS THE MARKETING STAFF. If stores won't shelf a box for an online download, then you find some other marketing tool... Like digital advertising on gaming websites. EA does not market UO, and to try and lay the blame on brick and mortal retailers for a digital download is BS.

    I would love to see the game go ftp, or at least a lower monthly rate. I've been paying for 15 years for jebus' sake, cut me a break!

    One house per shard would be fabulous, I've always thought about playing siege but I would want to work towards owning a home and I can't do that, so....

    Also, I would love to see more mini-expansions like high seas. I can see, after a year or more away, that the dev team is slim to nil, and we seem to have content generated more by EMs, which is actually not a bad system so much, as long as the devs work on something larger overall.

    but what do I know?? I don't pvp OR go to EM events!!!

    I just want to see the game last until I am physically unable to play anymore (I started in beta and am only 27 now lol). When that fatefull day EA says they want to shut it down, I hope that they offer up the servers etc for someone to run etc.

    That and get rid of the CC (hey someone had to say it).

    I'd like to see the focus back on Community and for the game to stop catering to the rares collectors... Sick and tired of stuff needing to be "stupid rare" all the time. Most people want to play... get what they need and move on with doing things in the community not farming and gathering all day in some selfish quest to have something and not wanting anyone to invade "Their" spawn spot as god forbid they should share.. put penalties on soloists and put good stuff back to the guilds and groups... I actually like what one person suggested give everyone the whole loot in their individual corpse.... this way more people participating the more chance someone has of getting something good.... and don't just give crap to the "highest" damager/healer/combo that doesn't work and is soooo overcomplicated.... RANDOM... allow everyone an EQUAL opportunity.... If 50 people are killing one mob then a random % of those ought to get a drop... Say 10% get a good drop.... What would that hurt? Why is it we have to cater to those who are the most greedy and selfish??? I thought this game was built on virtue and community..... NO where in the virtues does it say be greedy...... that's an ANTI-Virtuous attitude..... and should NOT be rewarded.

    Second I'd like to see all the loot reworked... From the lowly mongbat to the great Exodus..... it ought to all be reworked into a more logical system....

    I'd like to see more done to help boost the loot with T-Maps and MIB's... Can we not put ML type loot into some chests? Talismans and Spellweaving Scrolls..... You get Ter Mur Style loot in Ter Mur chests...... why are there no chests for ML? How about adding something like that? ML Peerless Ingredients ought to be in there too...

    I'd like to see more things added to the crafting menu....

    I'd like to have more things STACK..... Quit trying to overload my already overloaded homes with crap that don't stack..... We've only been harping on this ever since AoS.... it ought to be second nature by now to make things stack. #1 on a DEV's mind.... ought to be "Should this stack? YES!"

    Find more uses for items in game that have limited or NO use...... Deadwood? Executioners caps..... Styngian Dragon Head.... Slashers Claws...... All these things ought to have a use...... but don't.

    Add more plants to gardening.... I can think of several that we ought to be able to grow.... starting with the Thorny Briar..... those would be cool in various colors... How about a "Fly Trap" that can act like a trash can... It could look rather like a corpser.... but be something you can grow.

    We could get more players back in the game if they could only reactivate their stinking accounts!!!!!!! And when you call EA it would help if they actually KNEW they had a game called UO..... and that their account management system stinks and they should be more helpful in getting it working..... also in updating CC's and not billing stupid so my CC company flags you as a Hack.... and turns off my stinking Card....

    Fix Origin Store so I can buy in bulk for my 9+ accounts so I don't have to go buy crap one by one.... What a pain .... Don't make UO a pain to play...... If it's too hard to get anything accomplished likely folk will go elsewhere where they WANT to take our money.... Why does it have to be so dang hard to give EA our money???? Makes ZERO business sense!

    Finish adding skills to Haven.... You may even make Spellweaving easier to get now..... it's been years since ML and people actually GET ML now and don't have to buy the update so maybe it's BEYOND time that ML was taken off the restricted section.... Eh?

    For the most part good points;

    Casting focus is what it is, and now that they gave it to people, i don't know if it's fair to take it away. But you're right, they obviously had no idea how much it would destroy mage dueling. Almost everyone duels now with Maxxed out HPR, CF, DE, tons of MR and it's ridiculous. Even the "supposed" best mage duelists in the game refuse to duel me without all that stuff. All they have to do is spam weaken and mini heal while their health regens at 2hp per second and your damage is "eaten." I could kill people if I could poison them and keep them locked with cycles, but against a person with 17CF it's impossible to do that either. I'd have to necro duel, or duel with poisoning to do any serious damage. If I were to duel myself with all that stuff on my suit, even with 40 SDI, I would NEVER kill myself. The duel would literally last forever, and I'm not better defensively than I am offensively. And yes, before anyone cries that no one mage duels anymore, a lot of people still do. With the lag that I get in the field after the server transfers, it's practically ALL I can do anymore.

    As far as the poison immunity goes, I think it makes sense for people *with high poisoning skill* to be immune to lower level poisons, for the most part, but perhaps it should be nerfed a little. For example, even if you poison someone up close on a human or evil omen before a poison, they should not be immune to level 2 poison 90% of the time (or however high it is). It's ridiculous. It makes poisoning anyone with poison useless if you don't have poisoning yourself. Also Jack of All Trades poison immunity is just ridiculous. Having 20 poisoning because of jack of all trades should not give you immunity to lower level poisons ever. They should have at least 50 skill in poisoning to have a chance. Aside from field fights, this also functions to kill mage dueling especially.

    As for people in stone form + protection, they are not hard to kill. You just have to know what you're doing. As a matter of fact, they're really easy with a mana vamp, a purge, or a paralyze; or if you're a dexxer/thrower, paralyze/nerve strike and mortal wound. It's only really useful in Grinder situations, and even then they're very much kill-able. They also have absolutely no offensive capability other than maybe a summon, which is kind of the point of the tradeoff, less offense for more defense.

    But if you really want to know what I want fixed? It's the servers. The cloud servers *SUCK.* Since UO has been moved to them, I've had nothing but insane lag, especially while field fighting. I played UO on a dial up connection during AOS, and I remember how bad that was. This is worse. The game is just about unplayable, and I'm about to quit; and btw, I've NEVER threatened to quit before, despite all the horrible decisions that the Developers have made. Sure I think they screwed factions and dueling, but even that I'm willing to deal with because I love this game. But this isn't just something in the game that I don't like, this is something that makes the game UNPLAYABLE. There might not be a lot of players left, but each UO player easily owns at least two accounts AND people STILL buy stuff from the UO store despite a $15 per month per account subscription fee. I mean they make money. They just switched to crappier servers to save money, and it's at our expense. That's a sign to me that the developers of this game REALLY don't care what we think anymore. It's one thing to make money off of stuff that we enjoy, such as paying for additional accounts for additional housing, or us buying stuff off the online store. But switching to cheaper servers is a way for them to save a buck at *our* expense. But they know this game has an extremely loyal fan base, and they are milking us for all we're worth.

    Every 3rd or 4th account would be free. Main shard has a house for an account. And that account can place one house on other shards that are on a slower then boat decay timer with a limit on size. Revamp the BOD system and add BOD systems for other crafting skills. Revamp Doom Guantlet. Dull Copper Eli having 25 ore and can be pick spawned. No need to start a thread again on top 20 items that need to stack.

    It's not that your housing idea wouldn't make the game more fun, but it would diminish incentives to own multiple accounts reducing their profitability. They'd never go for it, and understandably so. One of the major reasons UO has outlived MANY MMO's is because the average UO player spends far more on this game than most people. Most people here own multiple accounts.

    I'm not sure UO has marketing staff, per se. UO is for sale in Origin Store. I guess they think that's enough.

    Once a month, or even a quarter, I would LOVE to have seen a open chat with the dev team. Or even better I would have loved to see them playing in game. It could have been them working through new items like the armor revamp, farming shame, working a boss or killing pirates...anything to show that they are aware and knowledgeable. Something better than that amazing video of Bonnie showing her deep depth of the game.

    I find it hard enough keeping A boat from decaying. All the more power to someone with 3 accounts trying to keep 10 secondary shards with three house each from decaying. Wont mention the power of the third party. Lets take the block of three or four accounts. Want to reward a player for their devotion? If those say three accounts are all over a certain age then one would become free as long as the other two remain active. The problem is not as much about getting new players at this point. Should be about keeping the current vet players. It is word of mouth that those new players are finding out about the game.
