Just wondering how anyone feels about this use of EM Powers?
well thats kind of neat. but who gets them? the hosts of the rares events or just the em? and if its the EM will they auctally be helping out at the event?
The pic is of a player who is on the "staff" of the event.
Oh, well maybe the customers will also get one. That says customer or visitor.
It could happen.
Isn't that like creating Rare Items for a Rares Festival? And isn't it a little early for folks to be sporting their newly acquired Rare Clothing? Sometimes I think the EM's are friendlier to some than to others. I saw a couple of people at the bank on Pacific "showing off" that they had these. I am going to have to say I think this was a bad idea. Of course I reserve the right to change my mind if more information surfaces.
Makes perfect sense to me - considering the way some players degrade the EM's while others play along - or even try to help!
The whole idea of the EM program was to add another dimension of play for players, i.e., brining the community together. In a sense, this rares festival event does just that. People from all shards are coming together and the hosting shard (Pacific) with their designated team are working hard at it to make sure this becomes a successful event. The EM team and Mesanna understands this so this is a gester of their token of appreciation. This is not the first time either. Many years ago, Legends shard had their Casino event hosted by the EM and at the time they also passed out Nightmare Casino staff tunics. Therefore, instead of asking what we think about this, you should ask yourself what can you do to bring the community together and perhaps you'll get something too.
To me, this makes it seem that its a sanctioned em event. Shouldnt be allowed to do it.
Fair enough Manticore. I have heard from more than one EM that they were not allowed to "give" items to players. This was one of the reasons for the Sash Machines and the blarney stones. So, basically, does this mean that guilds can start getting the EM's to make them unique items because they bring people together?
I can see where Rowan would be upset! She has gotten treated pretty rudely when it comes to rares. I saw her get reamed by a character on Pacific today for nothing but trying to sell an item. Of course I do not know any of the back story. But I have dealt with her a couple of times and she is as nice as pie.
Going to have to agree with you on this one. There were no special items created by EMs at the Last Rares Festival. This is a player run event not an Em nor an EA run event.
My question would be what do you think of this when the items end up for sale right here on stratics! My guess is it won't be long until that happens.
Kool item. my only problem is that I don't get one.
But whos to say it was the EM who gave it out? May be it was the boss herself?
You did not mention the failure of the casino, or how the player manager seemed to have extra staff tunics to sell. There is no reason for the EM staff to enrich a select group of players for hosting this event, how was the "staff" determined. It is this type of activity that creates the charge of favoritism. Items should not be created for a select few that the general population does not have a chance to obtain.
Err please don't trust someone just because they might be wearing that tunic. I don't want to see 500 posts because one of you were naive enough to do so.
So basically... the reward for hosting an event is 100-200m. Cool.
I agree the Em's should not be involved in this event. if the "Staff" want something that makes them stand out as staff why dont they all wear the same color of robe or even use an armor engraver to engrave something on there armor that states that they are staff? poor move on the EM's side as this is not a EM event
Isn't there another way to mark an item like that?
If it was an EM I don't see it as a huge issue, honestly. It can even be seen as adding to the game and helping to create unique, shard-specific content, which is kind of what the EMs were supposed to do.
The current wave of EM events were were one of the best things to happen to this game in a long time, and complaining about them has done more damage than any most abuses could have ever hoped to.
But do we even know that it was an EM?
Isn't there an armor engraving tool? Could this be done with that tool? I honestly know very little about that stuff.
But even if it was legitimately done by an EM I don't have much of an issue with it.
Well shoot I created the concept of the festival and have personally organized and run three of them...where's my shirt?
This sets a BAD precedent...
Way to go favortism.
I think they should customize the shirt, that way there isnt a bunch extra sitting around for sale and people posing as staff. Also if someone does sell, then we all know who did.
Honestly its a good idea just needs tweaking. People putting in the work should get rewarded.
Everyday in the game there are great player events on many shards, yet this one was selected to recieve this type of reward. Does this mean that these types of items will be provided to any group of players hosting a player event?
This will only help the Safety of the Vistors to the Event... People will do anything for gold and this includes "Claiming" to be part of the Rares Fest staff and possibly scamming alot of people... There was a LIST sent up to whomever with everyone that is involved with this upcoming event... and Thats the exact number of surcoats that were handed out...
I think it is a great idea that could possibly save any one of you or people you know from falling victim to a HUGE scam...
Vistor: "Hey does anyone know who I give these Rares too for the Auction?"
Scammer: "Ahh, Certainly! I accept all items and make sure they get sorted accordingly"
*Runs off with free Stuff*
And I DO NOT WANT TO BE QUOTED ON THIS: But, I know for a fact they are "requesting" that an item is made for ALL Visitors... It could be something along the lines of "I survied Pacific Rares Festival 2010" or whatever... Its unknown If this will even happen... But I do know for a fact it has been requested...
And before you all post your bashes:
I am extensively Invovled in this Festival and I did not recieve one...
so dont say "It's easy for you to agree with it when you have one!"
SO who exactly were given these rare items? Who decided what "staff" would get one? The "staff could have created a GM tailor to create matching uniforms. What if i decide to host a rares fest next week? Where are teh requirements to recieve this type of special treatment. Rare items should never be handed to a select few in the game.
And then anyone else with a GM Tailor could use a Name Change Token to make the Same Exact Clothing to pull a scam...
OMG You're not serious?!?! Who in the hell made this supposed list and left you off? It's unreal someone who is doing as much and trying as hard as you gets overlooked. Makes me glad the items I donated were to you personally and not anyone involved with the organization/promotion of this event. I'll be there at the casino and your museum, and maybe the auction for ****s and giggles, but thats it. Just another example of "power" abuse in this game. Boo to whoever left you off the list. I hope they get bed bugs or crabs or something else as hienious!:gun:
I Partly Agree with Everyone here... It Is a Great Idea and does need to be tweaked....
I dont think this is a problem until they start coming up on the market to be sold...
I like to think the people who did recieve one would hold onto these to 'Remember' or hell, even to 'show off' their support of this Event...
hear hear!! favoritism suxxors
Define "Great". How often do you see people transfering from almost every server to come to a player run event these days? Rares fest is now the largest player run event in UO... Does it deserve support from EA staff? I would think so if the players would wish it and the EM program is willing. Why not?
I will lock this thread if it turns into a cat fight. Stay constructive. Fair warning.
the MAIN thing everyone here is missing is simply that:
1. The EM's Did not Come out and Suggest This...
2. The People running this Event Went to the EM's and Made It Happen
3. Maybe Had the Past Events Went to EMs and Requested they would of got accepted as well...
Stop Blaming EM's for Favoritism and Look at the Players...
Who knows what the EM's would do if you'd simply just ask...
EM's should not be handing Rare items to players just because they are asked, where would it end. But at least you do admit this was a clear case of FAVORITISM
I was gonna try and stay out of this one but oh well. There has been a hell of a lot of planning going into this rares fest. For months now they have been working on it. This is the first rares fest being hosted by Pacific and the organizers wanted to show there appreciation for the people helping to make this a extra special fest.
I can almost guarantee if it wasn't for them Pacific wouldn't being holding a fest. Pacific would have been overlooked like it has been for along time. But threw there hard work and pre planning they made it happen.
Please don't try and bring this fest down when it is still a month away. I mean have ya really sat back and read some of these comments. Come on guys wait for the fest to be over first
It is favortism. If the average player or the average guild asked for something like this it would be met with deadpan silence. Or "you are now the zillionth person in que". To solve this everyone who participates or goes should get somekind of memorabila.
Every time I see my EM I ask him for a Messena cream pie (it's stated all you have to do is ask) and I am put off with a "ask again later". (and these are fairly common items not super rares)
Don't act like all you have to do is ask an EM for something.
I think this is more the case as they have been spending a lot of time and effort setting something up for the community to benefit the community not them selves in any way is why this item was created. And I am sure that if they knew this was gonna be the response from the rares community for there efforts it would never have been asked for.
I would like to weigh in on the fact that there were 2 people showing off their shirts at Luna bank on Pacific today. It is a month away and these people were flaunting the fact that they had these EM created items. If it is for all the hard work and all why would they be gloating about the new items they were wearing?
This is just plain wrong. The EMs should have told them what they tell EVERYONE else "Sorry, we are not allowed to create special items and give them to players." I have no idea how many times after an event people are moaning about not getting anything and the EM says that everyone has a fair chance to get an item because ALL items are placed randomly. I have even heard Mesanna say things very much like that.
Although there was an incident not too long ago where Mesanna awarded a special item to someone because they threw a huge fit! Of course that person also flaunted the fact that they got a special item.
I for one think this is very unfair to everyone who has spent time producing past Rares Festivals. It is a slap in the face.
To those who say Pacific never gets anything, I urge you to look at the list of Em drops for Pac vs other shards. Pac gets plenty of events and plenty of items.
When the system starts to get abused where do you draw the line? What can of worms have you just opened? I bet there will be a lot more people yelling even louder that they deserve something too!
Tet, you say quit blaming the EMs, how do you figure that they are not at fault for allowing this to happen? They are 100% at fault for saying yes. It started with giving a sash to a player who was nothing but disruptive(strike 1), it continued by giving people pets that were lost(strike 2) and now it goes even further by creating special ingame items for a select group of people(strike 3)
If EA cannot even follow their own rules all I have to say is welcome to chaos. It is the policy of EA and has been for many years to not give back lost items. The first EM program went to *&$! because EMs gave their friends special items outside of events. Please tell me how this is at all different from that?
If you guys want to be upset with anyone it has to be me. I was asked if we could help support the player event by naming the Staff shirts to identify them during the event. Since I feel like we should support your events minus giving items I felt it was a good idea. This was not done by the EM, so please do not blame them.
What I mean by giving items is rewards etc for your events. The players provided the materials etc, I just added the name for the shirt.
Changes all blame from EMs to Mesanna! Thanks for clearing that up! I guess this makes everything fine and dandy then!
To me this is the exact same as giving an item, you created a rare item for a select few players.
There is nothing wrong with the EM's or Mesanna Handing out these Tunics to those operating the rares festival.
If anything, this could be used at future festivals or events in general. I thought it was an excellent idea.
When I first saw one, the first thing I thought was "thats a great idea' 2nd, wish i had one .
However, I did not feel the need to complain. Its one item out of a 1000 the EM's have been handing out. GET OVER IT !! You think these individuals are selling the shirts ? I know a few of them and in noway would they try to turn a profit off these shirts.
OH and Rowan, why try to start drama over something like this? What do you think of this? I think your post *******. Thats what I think. No need, u want drama, watch law and order or something.
I think this was a good idea. The folks that put this event together invested a lot of time organizing it.
I have read and witnessed many times that the community is one of this games strengths. If a company rep tends to "favor" players who put time and effort into organizing an big event that will draw crowds to log in and attend... that rep is favoring the right sort.
The whole reason I posted this was because I felt that giving players Special Items was a huge no-no because of all the past problems from this sort of thing. I thought it was worth a discussion. Yes, I have issues with items being handed out to select groups of people. That in itself is anti-community in my honest opinion.
For me personally, after how certain players on Pacific (including some people wearing the tunics) have treated me I will be boycotting the Rares Festival. In addition to that, this is my very last post to stratics message boards. I have been treated very poorly here as well and I no longe wish to subject myself to that. So, to my friends, fare the well and to my enemies well, i don't even care about you enough to.......
ROFL... being such a HUGE member of the Rares Community for 12 years... It's funny to see someone "boycotting" something that affects it...
Every SINGLE post you have posted is you saying something to start arguments... and you sit back and watch and dont say a word...
Hey Mods? Isnt there rules against Starting fights and trolling?
I agree with Gunga... if you wanna watch drama go turn on the WE channel...
Kinda ironic that a rare was created for a rare fest.
The bad precedent that this creates, Mesanna, is that now you pretty much have to do this for any people who create an event - or its favortism.
I'm sure you have more important things to do than churn out named shirts...
There is something to be said for initiative.
This is a fantastic opportunity for every player on Pacific.
Our Players will experience an aspect of the game previously not known to the shard in it's history.
Pacific Players: i encourage everyone to be supportive and positive of growth and new game experiences.
For those who actively work hard to make pacific a diverse and better shard to play on - Thank you.
A struggle to understand the tunics is both moot and unproductive for the community.
Perhaps its best we stop looking at the thorn;
take a step back and see the bigger picture.
We can then admire the beauty of the Rose.
Manti & Line are on the right track!
I don't mind that these were handed out. What perplexes me is why they were given out so early. The event is still a month away.
Having people wear it outside of the event totally defeats the purpose of the shirt. The idea is good, the timing was terrible. A big stink would not have arisen if the people who received these items didn't wear them outside of the actual event. Even during Nightmare Casino, those bone tunics were only initially worn during the event... Hypothetically, by giving the item out this early they could just sell it now for millions and not even bother attending the event.
They were sitting at the bank answering questions on the event... not SHOWING OFF...
I was there when someone asked rowan where the Rares Festival House was and rowan said,
"Ask someone with a tunic, dont ask me"
Clearly Bitter and sad... followed by a bunch of crying to me about me hating him etc... etc...
They were handed out early for a reason...
People dont transfer the day before the event... It's 2 weeks away... and now the people involved who did all this hard to work to organize can wear their uniform so anyone freshly transfered to pacific and approach with any and all questions without rude people like rowan bitterly turning away and not helping....
The same effect can be done by simply making a guild for the event.
Either way, my words still stand. You can try to justify it all you want, but the fact is no stink would have been brought up if they weren't wearing them right now so much earlier than the event.
People wouldn't be crying foul over favoritism and what not if they were wearing these during the actual event and the people attending also got something similar for their "participation".
