I am looking for some excellent community run event ideas so bring them on.

    What was the Event?

    Why was it so great?

What would or could have made it even better?

This should be an interesting all time list when we are done!

oh God Nabin there was soooo many.

do you mean just any old event? or one where the players who showed up took part?

There was a guild who use to run plays on stage, honest to God plays. That might not be 'fun', but it's so awesome it's worth mentioning.

Funnest one I took part in was many moons ago. We all had to solve clues and travel all over the place. There were "player NPCs" we had to track down and say the correct thing to them in order for them to reply to us... with another clue to the next NPC player. I forget the riddle, something about "only your blade can find the true way", anyways, the answer to the riddle was you have to kill the NPC player to get a book on his corpse (he was standing close to his house with more books to refill with), heh I liked solving that riddle. Man, good times.

This isn't so much as an event, but we hosted Drunken Dragon Boxing at the Fel Mage Tower. We RPed, got drunk in game, and then we were off to fight dragons with our bare hands. Dragons always won =(

Event: PvP event between two large guilds in Ocllo. Not PvP guilds, but general guilds for every type of character.

Why was it good? It was just perfectly arranged by the two GMs. Each guild starting at one side of the town before and once they signaled to start the fun began. This was before AOS btw. Eventually one guild ended up taking control, forget which as I was too busy enjoying the PvP. Not the smack-talking highly competitive PvP commonly seen, but just for fun PvP which is why I loved it. The GMs were one of the best on our shard, Sonoma. They knew how to run events very well which is why it went wonderfully.

How could it have been better? Can't really say. Perhaps more of them? lol

That sounds like a lot of fun! I've been to a few guild pvp tournaments at the Nujelm giant chessboard-type thing and they were my favorite.

    I have two.
    1. In the early days of Trammel, the Red Eye Tavern held a story night for the ages. The good part about it was we killed the whole audience. Nearly everyone laughed about it. Hardest part about that was not spilling the beans ahead of time. (We already had a reputation for full contact story nights and audience participation, but not to the extent we went that night. It was also McIntyre's last event on Napa to my knowledge)

    2. In my first days as a United Pirate of Catskills, Captain Pike arranged a quest where you had to follow clues to solve a mystery. It was very well orchestrated and a quite difficult quest to solve!

Neither event could have been more fun, and they were planned and executed right down to the last detail.

Training nights at Paws outpost on Napa.... I remember this one night somebody came out to cause some trouble and killed a few new players and a GM showed up, morphed into a dog, and PKed him like nothing I had ever seen.

I loved the fact that player run establishments had there own events, and at times would be aided by GMs and Councilors.

Another night there was an unannounced pirate invasion of the city... Being a PWZ guard I got to help fight off the invaders and I even had one of my SS posted on stratics.

Cant forget when the undead invaded Trinsic... getting slaughtered repeatedly and coming back for more. FOR SOSARIA.

A play run fishing contest held by players after HS release. The fish dating empowers those now.

    Auctions.

Like to see locked to player deck of cards (curb cheating). Can you say player run UOHoldem Casino houses. Guild of dealers. House occupants all on same chat channel. Sure few players at same table on a speak would still cheat.

    What was the Event?
Apart from what I already mentioned: too many to list
    Why was it so great?
A few things make a great event:
    1. Know your audience
    2. Good publicity
    3. Excellent planning
    4. Planning for potential problems
    5. Flexibility and creativity of the organizational team (since your plans and backup plans rarely go the way you hoped)

What would or could have made it even better?
Experience makes it better. Unless you're brilliant or lucky, your first events may fall flat... Don't let that discourage you if it happens! Next time is always better if you learn from the last time. The story night I mentioned earlier was a result of 3 years of weekly events. The long term quest that Hawkeye put on was a result of more years of event planning.

My favourite Player Event was "Britannia from A to Z" run be the MTB guild on Drachenfels.

Everyone had to bring 26 items to the Guildmaster, one starting with each letter of the alphabet (apple, board, cider, etc.).

Was really fun, but my assessment might be biased by the fact that I won :) (took me 13 minutes to gather everything)

These are excellent! Keep them rolling in. We want to hear from you!

Does not matter how grand or simple the fact that you loved them is all that matters!

My favorite player run event... that's easy.

Quite some time ago on Lake Superior, I had decided to get all of the blacksmiths that hung out at the Brit forge to get together on a certain day, strip their characters naked, and run through Brit yelling "We smiths aren't taking it anymore!" and various other rantings. It was all in fun, of course, and we ran through Brit for about 5 minutes. It was a blast.

This is an easy one for me.

Years ago, Ra'Dian Fl'Gith ran an event for his guild, the Cult of the Azure Dragons.

I wasn't even in the guild. I was at Kazola's Tavern, on GL, when somewhat of a new player came by. He asked me the way to Yew. I told him, and upon talking to him a little, I found out he was on this guild quest. I didn't know Ra'D, but had heard of the guild and knew them for Roleplayers of high quality who had good events.

I found out that he was looking for the way to get to the lost lands. He had a book with cryptic clues in that led him to think he needed to go there, through the Yew entrance. He handed me the book to read for myself, and I was curious, so I told him that I would show him the way if he would let me follow along to the conclusion. He was a little reluctant but agreed.

As we set out from Kazola's, we ran across a well known roleplayed character. I don't remember her name now, she was a young lass who was found in the wilderness with no memory of who she was. She loved magic, and would cast it all the time just for fun, and spoke ending words with "ies" all the time. She always greeted others with "greeties". She was always curious, and instantly wanted to go with us too. So, being sort of the newfound leader of this little party, I agreed. But I was reluctant here, because she wore no armor and would die quickly in the event of an unfriendly encounter. I also was playing Drab Mintr, Trebr's father who had a very soft spot for young ladies, who always reminded him of the daughter he never had, as well as his granddaughter Kim (Trebr's daughter and my RL daughter who played for a while).

So, off we went, the three of us, a strange little fellowship founded on the spot, through roleplay. The old veteran with a heart of gold, the young newcomer full of excitement at new adventure, and the mysterious young lady who loved to cast magic and the "pretty sparklies".

I led them to Yew, then to the Court of Truth, and to the jails. There I showed my little fellowship the secret doors inside the jail, to outside and to the secret door that led to the way to the Lost Lands. At this, the young newcomer was very excited. "This is so cool", he said. And this was much to my delight, as I love this stuff too.

To the Lost Lands we went. I knew I was going to ask the young lady to leave our little party, as Drab Mintr would not willingly lead an armorless mage into the dangers we were about to face. And the time was right when we were attacked by whatever it was there outside the Lighthouse, I forget now what it was. She almost died, and the danger that lie ahead was worse. So, with apologies, I bid her, for her own safety, to go back to Yew. I was a little surprised that she did, with a heart melting *pout*.

So now the fellowship was down to two.

I knew, from the book my young questing companion had, that our destination was the Ophidian Lair. We fought our way in, with difficulty for being just two, and my young companion bit into the hot sands of the desert several times. But he would not give up. We forged our way on, and inside the Lair's ancient house. The book's clues led us upstairs, where the altar lies. From here, I let my companion try to solve his quest himself. Eventually, it was I who spoke the name of a long dead mage (I think it was) before the altar. And the ghost of the mage was summoned. Now I forget what happened as a result. But we ended up going back to the lands owned by the Cult of the Azure Dragon and meeting up with Ra'Dian and his Cult. About 15-20 other followers, who had failed the quest.

I was graciously awarded the bag of riches. I was reluctant to accept it, because it was my young companion's quest, but in the end I did. I gave my young companion, who had turned somewhat shy at being the "hero" of the quest, first pick of the bag of rewards. I then took an item I could use, then handed the rest out to the other Cult members for their efforts.

It was quite a rewarding experience, without the rewards. And Drab Mintr, may he rest in peace (roleplayed death at old age), had yet another story to tell around the campfires of his friends with ale aplenty to spill in raucous laughter and good humor.

These two exact events came to mind for me as well! I am not a pirate but I did have a character complete the Pirates quest, I have my pirate bane weapon to prove it! Also I was a storyteller that night at the Red Eye Tavern.

Wow there are some great ideas here.

Now that being said. Considering that there are over 100 members and guests logged into the Uhall forum at any given time, I am seriously suprised at the lack of posts.

This is leading others to believe that Player run Events just are not an interest to anyone and a waste of time.

Let's get some more comments in here please and support my position that player built community and events are a desire!

I know there are tons of ideas and events that are not showing up.

Anything having to do with fighting Orc on Atlantic back in '98-'01 or so. Grishnak had those orcs very well trained, but being orcs their stupidity usually overwhelmed them, which lead to chaos and hilarity.

You might be surprised at how hard it is to get lots of people assembled at a player run event.

    Event = Chesapeake Olympics 2006.

Why it was great = It consisted of many spread out events. I was able to compete in some, and be a spectator for others. For the most part - It did not take any special skill or items to participate in the competitions.

What could have been better = Not much to add here - maybe a wish for a Video "Movie" archiving of highlights of competitions.
