What would happen to our game if all the player run vendors would be deleted?

    Would the economy stabilize?
Would those who use 3rd party programs to mine and cut wood leave?

Possible restart of at least some form of RP as you have to track down a crafter and *GASP* actually have to talk to him/her?

    Any thoughts on this?

  2. NO. The economy is fine.

That would essentially end the game. Silly post.

I do not think it a silly posy. A lot of what I have read scattered in other posts cite one of the reasons for lack of interest in the game, or lack of new people , or complaints in general center around things like overpriced vendors in luna, a lack of interaction amoung players, and a general sense of instant gratification. ( I can get the highend reward for the newest event if I hit Luna an do not have to work for it.)

All I am suggesting is a kinda discussion of how would UO change if the Player run vendors were permantly deleted.

No to either. Deleting player-run vendors would not fix anything. Economy wouldn't change as all you're doing is forcing people to sell themselves, prices wouldn't change because of that. Scriptors wouldn't leave either.

I realize that this is heresy but I would like to see the end of vendors and replacement with a modern auction house type system.

I also realize we can't do that. Lots of players play the merchant game. This would end their game and probably them as customers along with it.

We can't afford to intentionally chase off anyone these days.

I'd only support an auction house system that limited the amount of auctions an account could post. My (non-thought out) plan would be each account was permitted to post up to 5 auctions per real life week with durations lasting up to 48 hours per auction. For each successful auction the account would be permitted one bonus auction during that week. If a bonus auction is successful, no additional auction would be gained. This would allow players to sell up to 10 items/commodities per week if they price their goods in such a manner that players wish to purchase them. In order to sell more through the auction system, players would need to hold additional active accounts. Trial accounts would not be permitted to access the auction system in any manner.

Offhand I think these would be the consequences.

UO Tradespot would get a lot more business.

Global Chat would be more-crowded people spamming, only this time they would be spamming for everything, not just artifacts and the like.

    "wtb 20 orange petals."

What is so wrong about vendors?? I have some myself and have no interest in standing on the street corner broadcasting my wares neither do I want to seach endlessly for the POF or other items I need from time to time. Vendors work real well in real life or so it would seem if I dont like the price I wont buy it. Slagging Luna vendors makes me laugh, like the real world if you dont have what the public wants at the price the public is prepared to pay then your out of business. So I guess it will only be time before Luna will become a wasteland using this logic.

i would think it would help with lag in luna :)

  10. Bingo. Good points. I never could understand why people think the fix is to take things away.

Great PR... take away what players have earned over the years to fix something that isnt broken.

Makes sense... This idea of the OP is a dagger in the heart.

    Think about it.

Take away reasons to have people over at the house?
Be creative with their vendors? It's the little things that make this game special.
The fix is to encourage somone you know playing to venture beyond Luna, Luna is just for lazies, if they're willing to pay higer prices go ahead. I do sometimes, and it's by choice. Plenty of cheap vendors out there, especially mine, because it's for fun not monopoly money profit.
I love the idea of leaving runes. I always pay a visit to those vendors for non discreet advertising. Gives everyone a chance for some exposure.

Auction houses are good for other games that are centered around grindin and fightin. I don't think it would work in this game, UO is set apart for individual freedom to do what thou wilt including making use of their house.
And now there is plenty of land (yes, plenty even on atlantic) so anyone can do this.

Economy is a non-issue. It's a game. If buying and selling is the die hard reason someone plays good for them, whatever floats the boat, but there is no real economy. A single player can be very self sufficient without doing either. If can find a good guild, doubly so.

Either way the biggest turn off of a new player is talking about "economy" issues in a fake world.

It would remove a large portion of why some folks play the game. As mentioned not really gaining anything serious ingame. Some of the best times I have is wandering around seeing where there are some non-Luna vendors I might buy from.

The economy is shot, I don't what that other dude is on, but a very few think it's ok.

  14. Yes. Then, I wouldn't have to hunt for a house with the item I need. I could just go to one place.

No i don't think that would be much of an exaggeration really i think it's point on. Maybe even a little understated.

I want to see someone come up with an idea that isn't, at the core "Take something away from someone for their own good."

Lemme resurrect an idea I had some time ago for housing and we'll see how you like it. I think it will meet your specifications.

  18. Shot it what way.

Everyone can get the same stuff.

An economy is only shot when you can sell a Tangle for 20 million and I can only sell it for 1 million.

To many people confuse inflation with their butts. No offense.

Buying and selling works perfectly fine. It doesnt matter if a top item costs 100 gold or 50,000,0000 gold. The only importance of the number is the attachment people have to it. As long as a new player can sell an item equally... no economy issue.

Im right. Your wrong. Sorry to be so strong... but people confuse the issue and waste time.

Want to see less gold in game and that is the issue most people have... Create ways to remove it without saying "Grab the torches and burn the houses down... wipe wipe wipe."

The nice thing about UO is you can do those things immediately, for yourself if you want! Delete your vendors, spam your sellables at Luna, and spam for your needs. You don't need the developers to do that for you. Get to it.

What they need to work on is a system that encourages player interaction while not requiring it. For example lets say you need to repair armor...if you go to the smithy shop and find a player there and get a repair deed from him as long as that player is within a few tiles you would get some sort of bonus for getting and doing the repair there. lets just say for example your chance to repair becomes 100% or when repaired in this manner your repair results in increased durability (maybe just a chance at this increase) this increase would have a limit on the number of to add say just 5 pts max over the lfetime of the item and still just be a random chance at this increase but still worth the time to stop at the smithy first and see if anyone is availible. Does not take away and does not over power an item but still gives an advantage to interact with another. Just tossing this out there and not completely thought out but you can get the idea.

As for the economy yes it is screwed because there is not enough ways to take gold out of the system. There are many ways to do this but a consistant way to take gold out is whats needed to bring things back in line.

... Says the guy with no vendors...

  22. Because there isnt enought ways to take gold out doesnt mean the economy is screwed up. It means there is inflation. As long as all get the inflated price the economy is fine. No one will be calling on our debts.

The idea of repair deeds being less potent is good idea. Repair deeds should cost 5000 gold from the NPC. Gold sink... you pay for the service.

Repairs from a window with a player should be free and give you a bonus.

Game over. Dead, gone over with. Destroyed anihilated over night. No more trammel no more fel vendering. Only one shard would stand seige and game will close of lack of funds. Digged grave with flowers. Not even Dante can help. In other words Bye Bye.

Economy is fine. Just that there is not many useful items around for profit and variety of items that can be sold has diminished. PVM is a waste because all items that drop are nothing compare to imbuing and crasfting is shot cause all items crafted are nothing to imbuing. This effects everything else.So that is what the problem is. But economy as a whole is ok just items that should be priced higher are priced lower than they should because of the uselessness.

I agree with what you say. Though, I think there is too much stuff, not enough rarity anymore but that's just an initial impression that I got after returning the game a couple of weeks ago after a break. I basically walked into saying "what the heck is this imbuing written all over people's clothes?" So far I don't see the big deal if its imbued or not, being that I primarily PVM. But hey, that's just me. There are more accurate assumptions than mine.
Economy is the wrong word here, I'll express again. Items are all in what you want to use them for. Gold is super easy to get. Houses are easy to place. It's all game play. I'm having fun with what little I saved when I quit the first time, that's the important part.

If all of the player run vendors were removed from the game, there may be some customers whom LEAVE UO for good. I am one of those. I do not run mega malls, nor pricey stuffs. I have vendors selling items which unless one really NEEDS said items, they would just sit there on the vendors.

Yet nothing makes me happier, than to go to my bulletin board and read some message saying... "Thank you I looked ALL OVER for a simple fricken bulletin board and you HAD THEM ! " Or to have someone come up to me at my house and ask me...can you make me a few tables in heartwood, I even have the boards FOR YOU, and I say ...sure thing !! And then the person standing asking me to make those tables also adds... Oh and toss some extra wooden chests on your vendor, I need about 25 of em redoing my house ! I say OK ...ya need wood engraving tools too ? " SURE they say slap em on ye vendor I will be back later. ETC ETC.

Some of us are playing UO not to get rich not to be a millionare or billionare, we just like makin stuff that others want or need, like carpentry items or a gate scroll when they need it ! And if we DO restock no matter where we are once they found us they continue to come back !

Sorta like rl [customer service is job one] if one is into running simpler vendors, and it is not always..providing price overinflated pixel crack items for them either...sometimes they just want a SIMPLE CHAIR at a NORMAL PRICE and CUSTOMER SERVICE ... not empty vendors or vendors run in mega malls of overinflated prices of ... pixel crack.

Get rid of player run vendors that are NOT really the causes of inflation on the shards and you will find ....all that is left is the MOBS OF MALL owners that will have every one by the throat spammin at some auction home ...selling a small wood table 5k+++ !!! NO THANKS do not blame ALL *simpler* player run vendors, for the issues that others are doing, causing much of what is destroying this game ! GREED !

Though there are lot of players we'd lose that I could happily do without...
