Whats with Loot?

Discussion in 'UHall' started by SpaceYourFace, May 15, 2009.

  1. Ok its been 1 1/2 to 2 years since I played. I decided to play on old home shard which I had stripped when I transfered. It took me a few days to put together a suit so I could go out and kill stuff. Nothing fancy, just max resist and a little mana regen.

Since I dont have a suit with any luck on it I converted my old pally over to bushido. From what I remember if you honor something then every level of perfection gives you 100 luck or at least thats how it use to work.

Now I havent been doin peerless or doom but you would think that in 3 weeks time I woulda got at least someting half ass decent. Ive mostly been hunting paragons. Blood eles, dragons, meer eternals, titans: this is basically what I can take solo untill I get better gear. They are dropping all crap. No decent jewlry, weapons, I havent even seen a piece of armor worth trying to enhance. Did somethign change over the last 2 years? I remember being able to kill dread spiders for a couple hours and having 5 or 6 things that were worth putting on a vendor.

At the rate im going im either going to have to transfer my stuff from atlantic or its gonna take me about a year to gear up.

It all depends on how you define "decent", I suppose.

For example, I wouldn't expect to get anything off the weaker creatures you're hunting... But the mods I look for likely aren't the mods you look for.

If I were you, I'd concentrate on earning gold so you can go off and purchase some tailor made stuff. Tailors add resistance bonuses not only via runics, but via exceptional and Arms Lore bonuses - plus they can add material bonuses without risking item destruction (by crafting the items from scratch). It's pretty hard to find something equal as a monster drop.

The best tailored gear WILL always exceed the best enhanced monster loot.

Tailors have a use on prodo? Temporary I'd wager.

  5. I have a guy about half way finished on siege but I was working on him about the time I quit playing. I have loged on him a few times in the last couple weeks but hes still far away from being done. Once hes done ill give siege a try. But for now im mostly concerned with all the junk loot thats dropping.

    Think about it.

On Siege, using runics to create armor isn't all that practical, because sooner or later you might lose it. It's too much effort for something that might well be temporary.

But on a standard shard, once you've got a given bit of armor, it's pretty much going to stay with you until such time as you find something better.

Tailor-made gets better bonuses then monster drops (11 more resistance per part (from a decent tailor), and that's not random - that's always).

So... pretty much everyone ends up wearing tailor-made stuff. Sooner or later. Some artifacts are good enough to beat the "best" runic gear... but not many.

Granted, the overall demand for armor is a lot lower then it is on Siege. But those people who are looking to buy, tend to want to buy the "ultimate" stuff.

Yes but once they have such fine equipment it's insured. You yourself are advocating a part-time crafter.

We run with runic armor. Yes, we lose it. We also gain it. *smiles*

Let's face it, on prodo pretty much EVERY trade is part time... Except perhaps (perhaps) replica hunting, but I get the impression those last long enough that oversupply won't take long to achieve.

All I'm saying is that monster loot is more valuable on Siege then it is on production shards, and there's more point to collecting barbed runics on production shards then there is on Siege.

    ...

General monster loot amounts to little more than raw resources in themselves in one of four ways:

    1. Sellback fodder for vendors for newbie players working up gold.
    2. Resmelting fodder for crafting resources (iron and leather specifically)
    3. Combine fodder for low end BODs (for those willing to sort)
    4. Upcoming: Unravel fodder for imbuing.

With the VERY occasional item worth keeping either for use as is, or as a base item for upgrade (enhance).

Beyond that, the basis for equipment on most shards generally end up being a combination of artifacts (as a generic term for specially dropped items) and runic crafted pieces with the occasional normal loot drop thrown in.

I would say runic kits on Siege mean more on Siege than prodo.. and here's why.

Even the lesser-created runic items can be sold on a player-vendor who is a dedicated crafter (only one character per account). In fact right now Siege has a shortage of crafters and there would be a steady market for them for anyone who takes this trade up.

The highly-modded crafted items are sold, definitely, at a premium. The best runic-crafted items are usually worse than mob-found loot, as you said. But this fits with the spirit of Siege. Only one item can be blessed at a time, and these are usually the mob-looted items. The rest of a player's suit, while decent to very good, is either reclaimed or looted.

But the net result is that non-best items are looted/lost and need replacing. This is why Siege can sustain dedicated crafter templates. There is a continual demand, which makes (hopefully, considering my previous statement) a continual supply.

You can not deny that a tailor on Siege is worth more than a tailor on production shards. They all come up with the same equipment.. it is just a matter of which equipment remains circulating/trashed.. rather than that which just remains on a player as infinitum.

Actually, my entire guild and I only use runic armor....

runic armor is in HUGE demand. Even basic armor is in huge demand.

The problem is supply... not ENOUGH crafters...

Well in siege the driving reason to get runic crafted items is that they are losed easily. In production the driving force is to constantly improve every character suit. Which of course siege you only allowed 1 character which you need to focus on while production 7 characters per account for you to focus on. In production you will never be finished there will be always something better and then you need to rework you're suit. This keeps tailors and smith on constant demand as well as the high population in the larger shards.

On on a side note siege should allow 7 characters per account. Thats where most of the people have balance issues. They pick one template takes foever and a day to max out and there stuck with them. The only reasoning is to argue about balance on another template that feels over powering. If siege players had 7 characters they would just switch to the next character that does better against another template. So there be less archers vs mages vs dexters vs tamers vs ninja vs etc.. anger. Oh well just added that in.

Either way insurance doesnt make crafters useless there is always a demand to make sure you can get the best and you're never finished. Especially when anything worth fighting drops you in less than a sec if youre too far from perfect.

Yet another case of the moderators allowing a thread of general interest to turn into a Siege-centric thread, and allowing a personal insult to boot. Not counting mine and not counting any replies to be made while I'm typing, there are 17 replies to this thread. Of those 17, 9 or 10 are about Siege, when the original post had nothing to do with Siege, and was clearly about a production shard environment.

To answer the actual question of the original poster:

    Loot varies a lot.

The dev team replies about Samurai luck have been inconsistent. I'm honestly not sure if Samurai get automatic luck from Perfection or not.

Even if they do, however....The last I heard, it was at most 1,000. And these days, 1,000 isn't all THAT much.

There's a statue....It looks like Lord British's throne, and it's one of the Virtue Artifacts (see the UO Guide for more detail; look up the article on Virtue Artifacts). That gives you another few hundred depending on the age of your account, and if you already have 1,000 from Bushido then that extra few hundred, I am told, can make a lot of difference.

But the best way to get good loot is still with a tamer with extremely high luck from items.

Be aware that I've occasionally found still-respectable loot on Doom bosses, with minimal or zero luck.

Periodically, me or someone else will do a thread asking where to find the good loot. Try and look up those threads, there's always a few critters in there I'd never have thought of.

Also, look into doing the Strongbox Quests.

    Good "luck." (Ho ho!!!)

I run my one tamer with about 2800 luck with the luck statue... she gets ok loot.. not always awesome... but not too bad... can't complain a whole lot...

First of one thing you need to remember is the better loot they give us the more we want .... cause soon all we have caps out.... it's really, really rare to get something WAY above and beyond.... as it should be...

Secondly ..... Crafted stuff SHOULD be way better than crap you loot...

And I agree stongbox quests are good for a decent item or two from time to time.
